Mornin' all!

It's warming up out there!  It's going to be in the 40's toady!  Big change from a few days ago!

Wife tells me theres a train show at the fairgrounds downtown.  Said she'd even like to go with me! (SHOCK, faints, dies!)  Might just have to do that tomorrow!  Got homework today, and a basketball game for my son tonight.  Throw in church and it looks like a busy weekend.

So whats up with you this weekend?

There are some built into the forum software.  When you go to make a post, notice the smily face in the toolbar?  Click on it and it pops up a small menu.  Click on any of those and it'll add that smily wherever your cursor happens to be.  For ones not on that list I just pick them up here and there, mostly on other forums.  If you don't want to load them onto your photo hosting website you can just right click on them and select properties.  The copy the address and come to your post you're making up and paste it in and add the [img][ /img] (without the space) tags and you can link to it that way.  As for the train gifs, you can google them (search for train gif, locomotive avitar, things like that).  There's lots of them out there.

Morning Folks!

I'll have a couple sausage biscuits with coffee this morning! Thanks Zoë!

The warm front is coming through now, temps in the high 40's today, wooo hoooo....

At least the lows will not be below freezing for the next week, which is a relief!

Hello everybody ....

I've been in the model train room and have been doing minor work on a locomotive. I'll be back in the train room in a few minutes to resume construction on the layout. My around the wall-layout now has tracks adjacent to about 80' of walls.  I have plenty more walls to work with. Also, I have one penensula for my steel mill.

I'm glad the good folks at MR allow the diner to continue so we can share a little about personal lives even though some of it can be construed as off topic. I'll briefly disclose that Shelley and I have been contributing much of our time and some of our money to a church program. We're not looking for any sort of credits from people and stuff like that. We are helping people who have screwed up their lives with addictions and so on, but have turned their lives over to God and are sincerely trying to recover. It's our small contribution to solving a huge problem in our world. We feel better about ourselves by doing stuff like that. We get a really good feeling when we see people reversing so many negatives in their lives. There's a young guy now for example who has been in prison for drug problems and is in the process of rebuilding his life. Those are the Friday night church meetings I have mentioned from time to time.

I believe our hobby is a great diversion for our young people and is highly constructive. I suspect young people involved in model railroading and other hobbies are much less likely to become involved with major problems such as drugs.

Following my "train of thought", you may wish to support effort to promote our hobby to young people by MR, NMRA, and others.

Back to topic. My layout extension under construction has two levels. The lower level provides added running distance and also some storage of trains. The upper level is the main line with an industry for revenue freight.

Happy Model Railroading.

Question: What do the colored STARS mean next to our Diner link? And how do some topics get up to 5 stars? Number of views or umber of posts?  Just curious.

Starting in on the "scrap wood" side of the dungeon today. If I get far enough, will cut the top for my small train table.

Jeffery, is that a cold storage facility to the left o your engine house in the back ground?  I love the pictures, keep them comming.

Garry, sounds like you made some good progress on and off the layout.

Hoople, I should have bought them at my LHS last month they were $65 for the A/B units but they didn't have the B&O capitol limited.

Ryan, any new pictures of the round house?

I did finish up the Merchant's row I project with the exception of the store front signs.  I need to fire up the ALPS MD-1000 and print some signs tonight.

On Windows XP there is a "rate" button where you can rate the thread.  That changes the star reading.  It's means nothing really.

Good evening all

May have a slice of apple pie with vanilla ice cream Please.

Not much going on here been really nice for a change actually almost up to 40deg F..  Kids are in bed and Mother is trying to get the baby to go to sleep.

I have a Delany Iron work kit that I am going to start tonight. Have not been down working on the layout since I am planning on building my daughter a new room and taking over her old one for my layout.

Glad to hear most are doing better like PC wife and I am sorry to hear that Rob's wife is coming down with a cold again. I think that the change in temp is worse than just getting cold and staying that way. At least health wise temp changes take more out of you than just staying cold.

Take care all Kevin

Evening Gang: Hello Jerry over in the corner. Well today was really a change from a week ago. It was 83 and a very nice wind blowing so it didn't seem too warm. Mary Ann and I went to the hospital and saw the baby. When Mary Ann said her name she opened her eyes. She is really cute.

Rob: I'm sorry to hear about the goat kids. I don't know why animals have to drop the babys in the worst weather but they do. We've had a few ourselves.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

OK I've got the page so have at it gang.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

A really beautiful day down here in Paradise today.  Cool [8D]  Got up close to 80, with some sun, but never got too uncomfortable.  That was nice, as we spent a good part of the day working out at the orange grove.  The fruit is just great.  Mandarins are still doing well, although some of them are starting to dry out.  They'll be done for by the end of this month.  The Reinas are good and sweet, and are fine for picking right now.  They will continue to ripen further for another 4 weeks or so.  This is a good time for OJ here in the Coffee Shop.

Ryan:  And then there is the culinary trinity of onions, celery, and bell peppers....
For me it's more like onions, garlic and bell peppers, sauted in Filippo Berio olive oil.  I haven't gotten into the habit of using celery, mainly because we hardly ever finish a complete package, and I hate to throw it away.  Maybe I need to think about chopping it and freezing small packs.

Garry:  I'm glad the good folks at MR allow the diner to continue so we can share a little about personal lives even though some of it can be construed as off topic.
The original "Coffee Shop" thread, which was a direct ancestor of this thread, was started specifically as an off topic thread.  So it's had their blessing since the start.

Rob - sorry about the goats.

Jerry:  Feller also included 2 IC flats and 2 trailers....Gotta say could of knocked me over.  We sure have some nice folks in this hobby...
Great!  Belated Merry Christmas.  Yeah, there are some exceptionally nice people in the hobby, even if it seems that a bunch of the out-of-sorts ones post out there on the main forum.  Wink [;)]

NJ Bob - nice looking wood loads.  Chocolate chip muffins, eh?  Sounds good to me.

That's about it from down here, sports fans.

Hasta mañana

The ice is melting!  Sounded like I was living in a glacier all day yesterday stuff was melting off the house and falling/sliding from the roof.

41F right now, Today's Hi will be 50F, and tomorrow's Hi will be 60!

I started work on the DPM M.T. ARMS Hotel last night.  Well that was my first DPM and I'll work through the others, but I'm not too impressed with their buildings.  We shall see how things go.

Morning all. Well as promised here are the chocolate chip muffins my wife made. ENJOY.

Cedarstrand-thanks for the compliment. Where in Ga. do you want them delivered? My in-laws used to livein Demerest Ga.before moving to Fla.

LSWrr- I have built a number of DPM kits-both regular buildings and the modular wall units. About the only complaint I have is that all the roofs are flat but I found that with a little messingaround with them you can add slanted or peaked roofs to them, just takes a little extra work and material. I have one DPM kit that I built and didn't like the flat roof so I built a peaked roof out of bass wood including the peaked ends, added metal sheets to the roof, painted and weathered it and it made a big difference. Don't give on them yet.

Well-got to run. Got to get ready for church. See you all later and enjoy the muffins- NJ Bob

Good morning Chloe could I have a big glass of OJ and a broccolli, cheese and mushroom omelette please.

Well worked on the Delaney Iron works last night while watching the football game. Sorry to see the Steelers lose but hey it was a hard played game. I found three buildings and a covered walkway in the kit. A red brick office, a stone factory connected by a walkway and a warehouse. I found the sides of the factory missing so I emailed the manufacturer and worked on the office instead. Painted the doors a brown with black metal banding and brass handles and such. Came out pretty well plan on weathering with alcohol and india ink wash. Only thing I am wondering about is painting the bottom grey to represent cement blocks.

Well time to go to gym and build a fence to contain the greyhounds to one room. The last one a dog continues to jump over so need to build one higher. Supposed to be warmer.

Paul glad to hear your grand daughter is responding/.

PC glad to hear you wife is doing better.

Ed if you dont mind my asking how did you end up in Mexico? Long way from Mass. That is were your from right? Wife and I are thinking about relocating after kids are thru High school. These 12 hour shifts are killing me.

Rob sorry to hear of the baby goats that stinks, I would warn you to watch the greyhounds but you know what a wuss they are.

Good day all Thanks Eds OJ is great!

Morning all!

Is it morning already?  Man, feels like I didn't sleep a wink last night!

Weather guesser is saying almost 60 today!  This after just a few days ago when it was -2!

Today: areas of fog/drizzle, unseasonably warm - high: 58 (record: 62, 1880)
Tonight: steady temps, patchy fog & drizzle - low: 55
Monday: near-record warmth, scattered showers - high: 60 (record: 64, 1907)

Don't know if I'll make it to the train show today.  I have a ton of homework (still....and yes, I've been working on it!) plus, I'd rather spend the money on layout supplies truthfully.  I do appreciate the offer and I don't want to discourage the wife (she said she wants to go.....a first!), so we'll see.

Well, thats my little corner of the world......how 'bout you?

Jerry,I mentioned to Lee that almost all my structures are DPM-either kits or wall modules and that if he wanted to take the time there are a lot of possibilities including changing from a flat roof to either a pitched or peak roof.I like them a lot and have even built some into odd shapes.

Thanks for the compliment on the lumber loads.Believe it of not they were easy to build, they are hollow.NJ Bob

in a BURLINGTON NORTHERN mug, please & thank you.

***NJ Bob, we're in the Salacoa Valley, near Fairmount GA. Guess I need to get right on building tracks from Fairmount to our farm. Or perhaps we should just move into Fairmount next to the tracks so you can off-load the lumber in our yard.Big Smile [:D] Actually, I do hear the distant trains at night which is cool. Still, it's nothing like living next to the tracks and feeling them rumble by as I did in WA.

***Kevin, it's been a 2-heat lamp period until today (finally warmed up). One of our black cats has been sleeping curled up with them. Luigi doesn't approve, but has not been able to do anything about it. Lorenzo could care less. The cat probably weighs as much as they do.Laugh [(-D]

***Philip, I always wake up feeling like I didn't sleep much. Coffee?

***Garry, excellent scene there. Must feel real good to have accomplished a layout that looks so good and be able to run trains through it. Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Well, real late start here. Off to do morning critter rounds in the afternoon. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob
