Well, after looking over Bill T.'s menu, I think I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ, cup of coffee mocha, and a cinnamon raisin bagel, please, Zoe. Thanks!

We've warmed up to 26 F this a.m. (-4 C), so until Jeff checks in today, Cape G. might have the hot spot for the day. Wink [;)] Supposed to reach mid-40's today and warmer yet on Sat./Sun. (but wetter).

Need to get going for now. Everyone stay warm today (especially our Canadian neighbors, Johnboy, Luc, DerJohn, and Fergie!).

Blessings and a warm place out of the snow for you,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Morning All!

The wood stove is stoked and I suspect I'll be burning all 5 cords this winter.

Later

Morning all!

Well, after a cold snap that would get Jack Frost's attention, we start to head back to the other side of the old thermometer.  Mid 30's today and warming all weekend with an expected high on Monday of 60 degrees!  Thats right!  +60!  Not -20!

Got several doctors appointments for the wife today, so I won't be around alot this afternoon.  I'll check in this evening though.

Later!

I told the guy I had some really good power tools!  I even have a big compressor and an air ratchet, but he wasn't interested.  Maybe it was too much?  A torque wrench might be good!

And a belated Happy Birthday to Flashwave.

I missed it!  Happy Birthday man!

Good Morning All,

It's twice as hot as yesterday morning - a veritable heat wave is engulfing us. Global warming come on Friday. Oh wait it's 15F. I'll have a regular and one of Bills' donuts please. Mighty nice of you to keep bring those donuts in Bill - thanks.

Paul - good to hear that the lil ones putting on weight and better yet breathing unassisted. It always amazes me how strong these little tiny people are. Oh and I hope you don't get too stressed out with your stress test (ask RT).

PC - good to hear your CFO is doing better and I hope the next round of surgery goes better. Perhaps you could arrange a donation of a new torgue wrench for the person who puts in the surgical bolts since that seems to have caused the problem in the first place.

And a belated Happy Birthday to Flashwave. So did you get the cab forward?

Avenger - are you in Stewart? I need to call my buddy down there and rib him as he was up here in Connecticut two weeks ago and hadn't been is snow for aout 2 decades.

Well - lots to do today - no MRR work last night just reading for research though I did find a picture of the repainted diner car I'm doing. I'll check in later    J.R.

Only the V(irtual) scale one. (you kidding? I'm not that lucky to get a 500 dollar christmas gift) But, That's what piggybanks are for. And it's really stoking me to hunt down the PCM (saw it at last INdy trainshow, didn't have 500) or the IM. Not sure which to go for yet. Need to do some more reading. All for tips and suggestions.

Good luck at the docs Mr and Mrs PC.

And thanks for the B-day wishes. I'mma fgonna see a friend's layout later today.

Afternoon all. Finally starting to warm up a little.Cold snap is on the way out.Yesterday it was cold and windy with a wind chill of +1.

I think I will have a burger medium well with the works,a side of fries, cole slaw and a diet coke

You will all have to excuse me if I don't know all your names yet but that will come with a little time but to tell you the truth I am not good with remembering names.

Seeing how many of you liked the picture of my SW7,I thought I would share this one with you. It is a kitbashed transfer caboose. Hope you all like it. NJ Bob

Whistling [:-^]

Good Morning Crew,    Chloe, are you still here ?  I thought you worked last night ?   Well good to see you and you can set me up with a large bowl of oatmeal, a couple of slabs of french toast and Hot C.   Thanks much !!!!!!! I think  I'll sit at the counter this morning between Ed and Paul if I can squeeze in there.Confused [%-)]  LOL.

Zzz [zzz]Day off today so I slept in. Really needed that as I am kind of letting down after the festivities and three days work already in 2008. No I'm not complaining. Glad to be able to work and have a job.  That is one blessing that I have always had. In the last 50 years I never have been without a job.

Well I guess the "Sunny Triplets"  Wink [;)]Ed, Cool [8D]Jeff and Cowboy [C):-)]Jerry will be getting into their shorts today as the Sun starts to warm them up again.  I wonder, do you think that they ever really think about us up here ???Sad [:(]

Paul, Wow!! [wow]-- We want you to break all those records with that test today and give them a little stress !!!!!!!

PC. & Better Half,  It's very good to hear of the progress being made with the health situation there. I've looked into the "Crystal Observation Car"  and predict that 2008 will be a great year for you two.

SueBlush [:I]  That is great modelling you are doing !! How about a few more pictures ??

FergiePirate [oX)] and GMT.Captain [4:-)]  will have to chop up some of those old wooden cars to keep the fires burning there. You East Coasters have really been getting it.  Makes me feel less sorry for myself out west. Hey, Let it be known that I love this place that I live.

CN Charlie,    Blue Hills and I are sending some warmer weather your way. How do you like 0c. Is that better ?

Prayers and blessings to all in need, I must say I think you all need a little exercise to get rid of some of the holiday pudding you are carrying around.  I'm included in that too.  Good Luck !!!!!

Off the wire for now.   Gotta get building & creating.

in a SOUTHERN mug, please & thank you.

***PC, hope to hear good news updates on both you & yours health issues. Sending continued healing thoughts your way.

***FoulRift, excellent work on that transfer caboose.Thumbs Up [tup] Thanks for posting the pic. Pardon my short term memory, what scale is it?

One more night of freezing temps and then it warms enough so I won't have to spend the extra time breaking out ice from all the tubs & troughs spread around the farm, and keeping fires going in the cabin to protect the pipes. This gets old quick. On the positive side, at least there is water now to freeze period.Wink [;)]

Have a great day, all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Jensen Beach to be more exackt. But they are only a Line of track away!!

No kidding, Jensen Beach and Stuart Fl ave the same FEC line running thru them. A train each hour (or more)

Mainly small GP38s I believe. There was a train recently with at least 150 cars at Stuart. That was 15 minuets before the train "convoy" passed.

 Good evening fellow diners!

I have to say that Ryan's menus look wonderful! Thanks Ryan for taking over the job of chef in the diner. Ryan, could you put a Creme Caramel on the menu perhaps as a special? I'm very fond of them and I'm sure they would be popular with the other diners.

I also want to thank the Saskatchewan guys for sending the warm weather. I do think that our neighbours to the south have a lot to do with it though as that is the direction of the wind. Probably coming straight from Jeff! He may not think it's warm but believe me we are very happy with 32F right now. Thanks Jeff!

I have been following PC's posts on his wife's health issues and I was happy to hear she is improving.

Fergie, I've been to Nova Scotia in the winter a few times and remember some very nasty weather there. We complain here about the cold but we don't get the storms like you do. Five cords of wood seems like a lot of chopping but I bet it cuts the fuel bills. I don't look forward to those $300/month gas bills in the winter but I can't store 5 cords of wood.

Time to run some trains. Nothing like the wail of a steam whistle to round out the week. Mind you I'll have to shut down by 9 as that is the time for East Enders and the wife and I have hardly missed an episode since it came on here in 1988. We watch so much Brit TV that when we were in England last winter we didn't notice the accents at all.

Great News!!!!

The doc has cleared the wife to begin putting weight on the leg!  We should be walking with a walker within a month or so and a cane a couple months after that!  Six months and it should be close to full strength he says!

The down side is, we still have the other leg to go.

Evening Gang: Thanks to Lee and evryone for the well wishes on the stress test. Evedently it worked because everything went well and the tec's said things looked good. BP at the start of the tread mill was 110/72, during 140/80 and after 120/80. I guess I'll live. I still have to visit with the doctor Monday afternoon to get the offical word.

Yes; the baby is doing well. We are very happy that she is getting along but it is still going to be a long time before she can come home. Her mother has the sniffles and a score throat so can't go into to see her. That has her down a bit.

No MRRing today. There is a work day tomorrow at the live steam track. I guess I'll go over for a bit. I'd really rather stay here and get something done on my track. The weather is supposed to be in the 70s and sunny. Sorry about that for you northern guys.

Belated Happy B-Day [bday] Flashwave.

PC: Yeppeeeeee.

Well I guess I'll hit the hay.

Love the TC Foul Rift. Got a soft spot for them. And she looks especially good in the grunge look.

Cox47, the avatar is the little picture under your name; it's been a little red x for a few weeks now.

Today's Daily Specials is just a little red x for me, can't see it.

PC, that's very good news, glad she is doing better. You have way too many happy balls there.

Paul, I'm glad your stress test came out ok.

I think PC and Paul should buy me 2 lotto tickets; they seem to be on a role with good luck!

Good Evening All,

A root beer float, chilidog and fries please. Trying again on the HW diner - paint chip looked ok for the grey. First fog and color coats went well so we'll see what it looks like tomorrow after it dries completely. Used Floquil with my ancient Badger siphon airbrush as I just can't get my trick dual action brush to work at all. Had it apart several times to check for clogs and finally ordered packing and gaskets so I can strip it down completely. Both stages spray air, but it just won't draw paint out of the container. If this is the worst problem I have, things are not so bad.

PC - great to hear the good news and progress. A year and a half seems along time for all this to happen, but if all goes to plan your wife will be much better off for a very long time. Like you I just wissh it weren't so painful to go through. The two of you remain in our prayers.

Paul - great stress test. Wish my BP were as good as yours, but I'm working on it.

NJBob - let me know when the good weather shows up so I can rush outside and await it. Leaving w..k tonight it already seemed less frigid.

Avenger - Called my buddy in Stewart - he was at a test day at Daytona yesterday and did get snowed on but claims Stewart didn't get any snow at all. Think he might be fibbin, no?

Flashwave - If you reallywant to drool, check out Factory Direct Trains site. Blueline AC-12's for reasonable money with sound installed. Sorry - I shouldn't torment you.

That dog and float really hit the spot. I'll see y'all  tomorrow.   Big Smile [:D]  J.R.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Temps climbed up into the low 70's today, and will probably only get down into the 60's tonight.  Funny thing, inside the house today was probably 10-15º cooler than outside.  Once all this masonry gets cold, it's like a giant heat sink.  Since the sun didn't come out and beat on the walls and roof, inside warmed up very slowly.  I liked it that way.

Momentum is slowing, although I did a minimum amount of cleaning/reorganizing.  I also ran some more laps, but for some reason the pony truck of my Kato Mikado decided to start climbing out of one particular switch.  It's run over that switch without problems hundreds of times, but now it's derailing every second or third loop.  Confused [%-)]  I'll worry about it tomorrow.

Garry:  Mornay sauce (Kentucky style) is a cheese sauce combining white cheddar and parmesan cheese 50/50. You can probably find a more fancy recipe on the internet.
Yeah, I did.  Now my only problem is the lack of cheddar, which isn't readily available down here (white or yellow).  In fact, most cheeses that you guys have ready access to aren't available where we live.  Maybe in Mexico City.

Ryan:  ...it is a fancy name for a cream sauce made with milk and thickened with a roux. A roux is a mixture of flour and butter.
Don't they say that all Cajun recipes start with "First, you make a roux..."?  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

NJ Bob - neat transfer caboose.  I like the weathering.

How many of the old regulars here remember the transfer caboose that Noah ("Snoah") scratch built (or kitbashed) and showed here a couple of years ago?

Johnboy:  Well I guess the "Sunny Triplets"  Ed, Jeff and Jerry will be getting into their shorts today as the Sun starts to warm them up again.  I wonder, do you think that they ever really think about us up here ???
Actually, I think about being back up north a lot, especially at this time of year.  I really miss the snow and cold weather.  I always loved living up north.  I wonder if I'd really feel that way if I lived back up north.  It's been about 20 years since I lived full time in the real cold (Ft Mac) and sometimes I ask myself if my body would easily adjust to the cold again.  Hey, it's never really adjusted to the heat!  Wink [;)]

Speaking of snow, here's a link to a great YouTube video of a dog in really deep snow.  Neat video.  I already sent it to a few of you by email.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sUL0KCIc48&feature=related

PC - great news about the wife's progress

Paul - good to hear there were no complications with your stress test.  And continued progress on the granddaughter front.

Flashwave - nice locomotive!!  Great present.  Congrats.

Plans are to head out to the orange grove tomorrow to do some routine maintenance, and, of course, to cut more fruit. I'll report back tomorrow night.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Thanks for the comments about the caboose. Sorry I never mentioned it but I model in HO. And yes she has been worked hard but like the Energizer Bunny she just keeps on going...

As far as the weather goes it's still cold-guess the weatherman goofed again. I only have time for a quick cup of coffee, just got home from work and got to get to bed early. Have to get up at 5AM and go to my other post. I work as a security guard at a truckstop and the local community college and have to do the college tomorrow.

I'll have more time later tomorrow and Sunday to stay and chat and perhaps post a few more pics.See you all later. NJ Bob

PC ...........Yes, that's great news. I'm glad to hear it. I suspect it seems like a long wait for Mrs PC, but time will pass and God is looking out for her.

Paul .... Good news about your test!!!!! Also, good to learn the little grnaddaughter is progressing so well!!!

Ed ..... We have a great authentic Mexican restaurant here complete with lousy Mexican cheese. I think I know what you mean about cheese there. ... BUT Your OJ is fantastic!

Well, another long day gone here. Much accomplished, although nothing train-wise for days now. Hopefully soon. Have a good night all.  Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Evening Folks-just some hot tea for me thanks.

Blah-surprised I'm up this late tonite, but I won't be for long-had terrible trouble sleeping last nite-gave up for awhile & got on the computer & continued to re-adjust my rrpicture archive site to make it it more "user friendly" for modelers looking for prototype ideas & inspiration. http://donkey.rrpicturearchives.net/

More categorized as to type of cars, builders, etc. Not near done, gonna take me awhile. Anyways, it was about 5AM before I was able to get to sleep, & had to be at work at 9:15. Sure enough, I overslept the alarm & woke 5 min away from having to be at work. Fortunately, the powers that be are understandable, as it's happened to about everyone there once in awhile.

Avenger-not surprised w/snow in Fla.-Key West was supposed to be in the 40's. I remember the cold wave of 1977 when Miami Beach saw it's 1st snowflakes.

Lee-not surprised at the amount of snow you folks got after watching the radar & the squalls coming off the lake-they died off mostly before reaching here as we just have a coating. One positive note I can say on the bitter cold-when it gets up into the 30's as it did today, it actually feels "warm"!

Kevin-I can remember in Jan.of '85 when it went to -24 here & we were the coldest spot in the country. My friends & I were out bowling, & on our way home, my bud was exceeding the speed limit quite a bit just to keep gas flowing thru the carb in his '75 Cordoba. The next day, my dad couldn't get his '70 Tbird started (in the barn, opposite & out of the wind) but my '74 Charger (outside & facing the wind & with an old battery) groaned a few times & fired up with a VROOM!! (boy did I hear about it from my Dad when I came back into the house!)

NJ Bob-Foul Rift right? There are a lot of weird named towns & roads across the country-still trying to recall some from this area-the one that comes to mind is one I remember reading a book about the death of James Dean & the car crash that took his life in Cholame CA.-one of the roads nearby was called Brown Material Rd. (I'd rather not know how the name came to beWhistling [:-^]) Either way-cool name for your RR & neat herald!

Jerry, I wanted to add also that the OC does a bit of operation in the Youngstown OH area also-they've basically taken over some lines that other major carriers have left dormant. An aside, my Mom's former supervisor's nephew is an engineer on the OC-I met him once when we were kids & he was a railfan & a half at the time-he knew 10x more about RRing in the area & put me to shame with his knowledge.

Well I better get to bed-I'm dragging. Oh one more thing-got a text msg from one of my railfan buds-he just got accepted for conductor/brakeman training on the W&LE. It's been his dream to work on a railroad, & I couldn't be happier for him! (now maybe I can get insider info from him as to when a train of cool weathered cars are in the area Whistling [:-^])

Nite All!

Hey all.

Haven't been in in a bit...

I see we have some new people here... Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to you guys.

Nothing is really new here. In about a month I'll come in here screaming becuase my big boy has come... But that's a month away.

Newest project isn't layout related... Again... It's another locomotive. Those P2K F7s have tempted me to save for them. I'm only $145 or so away... yay.

Good morning,

42F and rain today.

Hoople;  I have my sights set on a P2K E8 A/B unit in the B&O Capitol paint "only"  $195.00 (DC).

Caboose; believe it or not I found 1 set of caboose hand rails, I need to patent my new found secret in locating lost items.  I go looking for a screwdriver and I find caboose railings, I search for caboose railings and I find my tunnel portals.  Soon I will master this new skill and rule the world, ok maybe not.

Glue for structures; someone (a couple weeks ago) mentioned their buildings needed re-gluing.  I have a few buildings my Mom and I assembled back in the 70's that are still in excellent shape; we used clear fingernail polish as the adhesive.  I use green fingernail polish to glue telephone wires to poles and clear for tying flies for fishing.
