 Good evening all!

A hearty welcome to Terry in Sarona. One thing you'll find great in the diner , besides the other diners, is the menu. It is virtually limitless. Chloe can serve up any dish you can imagine. Funny thing though, you'll find that you have to visit often as while great, the food just doesn't stick to you. I'm new to the place too and have found that they do make you welcome.

Thanks for the suggestions Lee about the village name. The more I think about it I'm chuffed with Upper Chuffton. Those Brits in the diner will understand.

No train stuff for me tonight as my eyesight is still recovering from those 36 grab irons.

Think I'll just sit back in the booth and enjoy my coffee and for a change of pace, no weather report ( I heard that !)

So I hope everyone had a great day. I must say Ryan keeps coming up with that tastey prime rib, so I guess this one's on JPowell. Welcome back to the diner. And that brings me to:

Hey -

I just realized that in 8 days, I will have been a forumn member for 6 years! Does that constitute for anything on here?

Well John, you know that and a $1 will get you a coffee while you're here.

sanonaterry:  Welcome to the diner, another fellow carpenter. Now, c'mon, we really don't pound nails anymore, right? Those nail guns sure have made life a bit easier. I just save the hammer for hitting a nail set, chisel or tapping something in place-- 'til you wham w/ the gun! The hammer does look good in the nail bags though. So what aspect of the trade are you in? Framing, finish, cabinets or a bit of all. Used to be one of those "lone wolves", but in a good sized club for over 14 years http://www.ssmrc.org/

NJ Bob: Another welcome. Where is Philipsburg? Just got back fron NJ, my wife's family is in Chester, Denville and Roxbury. I like that RR name. SW7 looks good and nice weathering job also.

Flashwave: so you're into the "circus train", a fellow club member loves that stuff. At shows the kids go crazy watching that train. It takes up the longest yard track and just hopes no one will touch it and knock all those wagons all over. Great part of the hobby. I wanted to take one unfinished area of the layout and give him enough space to have the unloading track and set up the big top circus tent. This is Eric running his train http://www.ssmrc.org/Eric.jpg

To all the regulars, enjoy a good diner on John. Just need to keep it short tonight. BTW, I didn't show my only train related Christmas present, kept it low key for this year. It is actually our latest club car (15 of them so far)  http://www.ssmrc.org/store.htm they won't last after the Springfeild show. I would have bought a couple anyway, but a nice token gift. Have to get some trains from Santa ya know...

Gd' evening all

PC; maybe a peculator or a block heater is in order to prevent your car from freezing.  I have a block heater and it does the trick, but a peculator heater might give you a warm car in the morning since it heats the radiator water, my block heater heats the oil.  I have a 100w 110v heater.  J.C. Whitney should have the one you need.

Cox47-the only other pics that I have are of some structures that I have done this past year.No layout as yet.

Hello again Diners, and here's hoping that this year will be even better for you than the last.  A slice of the nsa cream cheese pumpkin pie and some nsa whipped cream to go with a JR Regular please. I see it's my tab, so order up people![diner]

Welcome to the Diner, NJBob. (We've BobK already, but I see you don't mind the geographic identifier ) On the street name thing, there's a three street trailer park in Porters Lake near Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.  They are "This", ‘That, and "Other"!  The somewhat dark tone of the names you guys have been telling us about reminds me of a BBC TV sci-fi program from about 1953. The hero was Dr. Quatermass, and I missed the final episode of the first series (The Quatermass Experiment) because of a school field trip to Scotland.  The second series, "Quatermass and the pit" began with a shot of a street corner with two name signs on the brick building, one more modern than the other.  Both read Hobbs Lane, but the older one was spelled Hobb's Lane.  You will appreciate that Hobb is an old English name for the devil.  The story unfolded nicely from there......

BobK:

I like the looks of the white and light colors on the facia. Once sceniced and a backdrop will be a nice contrast. Real clean looking.
...Thanks, I like it, and it's a change from the universal green.  It came about because I was given a 4x8 sheet of white faced hardboard before leaving Alberta in 1998. Over the years it's been used up here and there.  Some went on control panels for the Spruce Grove layout, but most is facia on this one.  Now I'm down to using white paneling that came (again as a spare sheet) in a shed we bought and had moved here from Dartmouth so that I wouldn't have the continuing shame of being a shedless male on Sober Island! There's just one more piece of facia to add, on the bridge module in front of the window.  It has to be removable, to get at the nuts that adjust the track height when necessary (the whole module comes out to give access tot he window for fire exit etc.); and I'm going to use fridge magnets to hold the facia part in place.

Chuck and Kathy.  If you don't get a reply to your pic posting problems from Ed, drop me an email.  Great news about the garage/train room. Prayers for the heart situation.Angel [angel]

Avenger: to the Diner.  Any particular reason for your HO scale choice?  I was in HO, but went to N to get more layout/sq ft of room.

NorthernPhil:  Start on the train room, then the layout.  Sounds like a banner year already! Thumbs Up [tup]

Terry: to the Diner and the wonderful world of foruming! (my WORD program didn't like that and changed it to forming automatically!)  The time thing gets me too, as I'm in Atlantic Canada, and an hour ahead of all the Eastern Time Zone folks.  The Trains Forums seem to be way off in Central Time, or something like that. I see CapeJim has mentioned our staff.  Just be careful around them because of their cousin Vinnie.

That's going to be one impressive layout!

JP:

I will have been a forumn member for 6 years!
...that's a big slice of the entire lives of some of our younger clients!!Bow [bow]

Ed:

I'll have to take to calling you Mr Avenger.
...don't you mean Mr. John Steed?  (
Those Brits in the diner will understand.
Whistling [:-^])

Time for bed...and the electric blanket my MIL gave me for Christmas.  God bless, and prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

    Howdy all.

Cox47- That train show I mentioned is in Ft Wayne, not Indy. Probably a bit far for you, but if you get a wild hair.... They do have some decent bargains, this weekend the GTS is in Indy- is it called the GTS? The big show that tours the big cities, anyway, the last time I went it cost 35$ in gas-that was when it was cheap- around 13$ to park and get in to the show, and we ate at a Steak and Shake and that cost another 23$ or so, by the time it was all done, I had spent around 70$ and didn't buy a thing! At Ft Wayne, parking is free, 2$ to get in and everything is cheap, like me! Closer drive too. Looking forward to it.

der5997- You mention Hobbs End, just so happens I made a sign with that very name on it about 30 years ago. When I saw Quatermass and The Pit, the American name was 5 Million Years to Earth. Sure did enjoy it, so much that I named my driveway Hobbs End! I think I've seen most if not all of the Quatermass shows, have a few on DVD, the rest I picked up through Netflix. I still have the VHS tape I recorded from good ol' channel 4 when they showed it the first time, too. And hopefully, the layout planes will go smoothly and without hassle.I am very much looking forward to getting started on it.

Welcome to avenger, saronaterry and foulrift, if you guys don't mind I'll call you by your user names, there are lots of repeated given names, but I'll bet only one foulrift on here! My name, Phil, isn't that common, but we already have at least 4-5 other Phils here, and I believe 2 live here in Indiana, so I figure it's better to use the name that can't be confused with anything else. And anything I can do to avoid becoming confused is ok by me! And I already met foulrift on one of his posts, glad to see you over here in the diner. It's a great place to get good advice.

We had more snow today, and it was way too chilly, as PC's radiator (and unfortunately, his wallet) can attest to.Amyjo and I took a couple of bales of straw to my property north of town for our dogs, they snuggled right down into it. On the way back, we spotted an NS SD70 with the local sitting still, and I took a few shots of it. I consider the NS SD70's to be the last of the classic engines bought new by a Class 1 around here. These days they have safety cabs, and those are impressive too, but the old Spartan Cab 70's are some of my favorites. This one was 2537, IIRC, and she was running long hood forward-just as she should be- and with the snow blowing around her, I hope the pics turn out.

And speaking of pics, hopefully next week Amyjo and I can sit down and try to upload some shots to either here or photobucket, looking forward to that too. All of our house guest will be gone by then, and it is a bittersweet peace that will settle in on us. We will miss the monsters.

You guys take care, and we will check in again tomorrow night.

Oh, PS- if Mr. Avenger is really John Steed, could he help me get in touch with Emma?

Howdy ....

Looks like the diner is busy.  Soon they will need to add servers.

Hey, look at friendly Der5997. He's not content with the normal smiley welcome sign. Not at all. He has an opening door complete with red carpet for NJ Bob, a sparkly welcome sign thingee for Avenger, and then outdoes himself with a skywriting bi-plane for Terry. Hey, Der, you're on a roll there with all that fancy stuff!

To the above mentioned new comers: Welcome aboard!

Rob: watch out for in-laws!

Philnrunt: sounds like you enjoyed some great visits over the past few days and it was worth the trips to the airports.

BobK ... I like those club photos!... The engine terminal is great. ....and the B&O passenger train with F-units you posted last week was very nice.

Paul ... I hope the drawings got to you okay.

Ed .... It least it's not freezing there.  The diner needs a continuous supply of OJ!

Ryan .... Says he was a chef and then an IT guy.... Any applications for accounting, Ryan ??? ... You're well qualfied to cook the books.

I wanted to hook up with Duke when we were in MI, but my trip was too short and was disrupted somewhat.... maybe next time.

I did a little more work on the layout again today.

Happy Model Railroading.

Evening folks-just a quick coffee as I just got an online msg from my ISP that it's going down for routine maintenance in less than 5 min. so I gotta type fast.

My birthday was uneventful-as I liked it. Back to work today but not bad even though it's pretty darn cold here-20's today & teens tonite. Tried to help out a patron at work today that needed a jump start, but I couldn't get to one of her battery terminals as it was hidden by a fuse box or something like that (minivan) does an "attempted" good deed count?

Bob K-that Chessie steamer running like crap is an understatement-I remember the valve gear binding up constantly, & not having the tools to correct it (I was 13 or 14) Oh well, as I recall I only got it for $20 or so.  I "have" an Atlas GP40 WM Circus also, but the shell was a victim of a botched high nose job. Still have the mechanism though. Great pics you shared though-saved them for my layout inspiration folder.

Jerry-the OC in that pic runs on the old B&O through town here up to Warwick to the old B&O now CSX line to interchange, & back down, switching over to the old W&LE line south of Brewster down to their home in Morgan Run OH. I can see if I can find more later.

I better git-nite all!

Good Morning All,

I'll have a coffee and a nice warm donut courtesy of Bill please. A roasty 7F this morning overcast, grey, damp, must be winter. Spent the evening last stripping the paint off the Athearn HW diner. Note to self: next time use a test panel before shooting the car. Any piece of scrap would have prevented wasting an evening. I did stop by the LHS and picked up more grey paint so I can try again, but this time I will make a test panel first.

Haven't read the rest of the latest posts yet so I'll be back and forth this morning doing paperwork. Hope Y'all have a goodun.   CUL,   J.R.

Morning, Zoe - can I have two cups of coffee to go, please? Thanks - I need the other one to pour over my frost-encrusted windshield on the car. Got fairly cold last night, and only up to 10 F this a.m., though we're supposed to reach 33 by the afternoon. Another brrrrr day until it starts warming up over the weekend (to the upper 50's or 60's F).

Well, got to go tackle that frost now. I'll be back after I get it cleared off.

Blessings and stay warm today,

Chef [C=:-)]  Morning folks, lets have some eggs, sausage, toast, hash browns and Ed's OJ for breakfast this morning:

In the back yard this morning the mercury showed 19° F just before sunrise and boy was that a sight to see on the way into work on this crisp clear day.

Looks like Terry in Sarona has gotten the full welcome and nice to see some new and old faces coming back in the diner!

Hey Paul, I just got the Walthers sale catalog in the mail yesterday and they have a new Hiawatha 52-seat Coach on page 15.

Thanks for the magazine run down Ed, lot's of good prototype info in the Trains magazine. I also picked up their special issue with the Tuxedo NS F's boy are those some sharp locos, and the article on the Juanita Shops was great too, it screams "Road Trip".  That beef stew was probably the right order for some stick it to your ribs in cold weather fare.

Dinner [dinner] Bob K. glad you liked the Prime Rib dinner, we just about ran out of that last night, but today's lunch and dinner special will keep you in high gear! Check back later for the menu.....

Hey PC and with odds like that you might have wanted to buy a few PowerBall tickets last night! A winning ticket will create a windfall for N scale layouts ya know!

Well, it's starting to warm up some now.  It's only -8 here right now, so now we can actually breath outside.  It got down to almost -18 last night.  You go outside and your lungs just cease working!

Morning everyone!

Trying to fight off a cold today.  I guess playing around with water outside in sub-zero temps for a few hours didn't do my immune system any good.  Funny, huh?

So whats going on with you?

I will slip into this back booth and have an order of what Ryan is having with my coffee.  Now we know why his food always looks so great.

Ryan,  I still haven't ordered that CMX track cleaning car.  Our washer died on Saturday, so I probably should wait at least one paycheck.Sad [:(]

Philip,  Thanks for the kind words.  We haven't seen much of your layout lately. Hint. Hint.

Jim,  Thankmoo.  I have more to weather.  When I get the stockyard in place, I will need cattle there.

Rob,  Glad to hear about your progress.  When you are working alone, I am sure that things move slower.  Benchwork can be long and tedious.  If you build it tough enough, it will make the rest of the journey more fun.

Hello  Welcome to the diner FoulRift, Avenger, & Sarona Terry.  Pull up a chair.  You will find great conversation here with our coffee.

der,  I always enjoy your progress photos. Keep them coming.

Larry is off for California, so I will probably work on my riverbed today.  I have cowboys and horses to paint for the stockyard area.  We parked the Shays in the latest sceniced areas.  Maybe I will get a few more photos.

Later,

Sue

Good Morning Crew,

Zoe, youre looking great this morning, I'll have chocolate chip muffin and hot chocolate to flush, in the corner booth with Ed, Jim & Phil so we can watch the local come through.

I would also like to extend aSign - Welcome [#welcome]  to our new friends, Foul Fift,  Sarona Terry, & Avenger.  and any other visitors.. These are a great bunch of folks here at the Diner, very knowledgeable, skilled and willing to share.  (Whisper)--- Watch out for Vinnie, he is a little on the shady side..

Well here I am at work for the third time in 2008. Just 357 days till Christmas.  Got you shopping done yet??Confused [%-)]

I had a nice surprise in the mail yesterday. I received four "Rail-Gon" gondolas, all different numbers. They make a very good looking string. Will have to weather them some and get appropriate loads. I was well pleased.

My Son and Daughter-in-law drove back to Spokane yesterday. For the first couple of hundred miles they had real crappy weather and road conditions. Winds as high as 80 KPH. lots of drifting snow and poor visibility. They left here at noon our time and got home at 5:30 this morning. So under the circumstances that isn't too bad for 1000 miles.

We had a great holiday season and hope you all did as well. But now that the kids and relatives are gone for now, maybe we can all get back to some serious railroading. My nine foot (length)mountain and canyon have been patiently waiting for awhile now to see some action. So tonight I plan on playing the creator again.

For all of you who are Mid-Central who watch the weather from up our way. I have to tell you that today is wonderful, no wind, temp at 0 by noon, didn't have to plug the truck in last night. (I'm one of those good guys that let the wife use the garage.) (Good for brownie points)!!!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Well I'll check back in later, right now I had better look like there is something to do.  Really quite at work yesterday and today, Sign - Dots [#dots]  But we all must get-r-dun... So Do It....

Nothing much to show.  With all of my wifes surgeries, homeschooling when she can't, work, and school, there's not much time left over.  I spend most of that on the web or sitting with the wife reading or watching TV.  I just don't have a lot of energy left over.  I haven't spent much time working on it for a while.  I did do some housekeeping last weekend and got some shelves for the closet for storage.  Other then that, not much to report.  I'm hoping to make some forward progress soon though.

Philip,

I sencerely hope that things settle down and get better for her.  No one person should have to endure what she has been through.  You two have your faith, and that will help keep you strong.

Morning all! Zoe,I'll have a cup of Irish coffee , it's still cold up here.

Paul: Yeah, it is a good size room to play in, but this is my last(HA!) layout.Ibuild 1"by 3" frames, stack 2 layers of foam and attach it all to wall shelf brackets. Goes up pretty fast in 8' sections!

Bob K:Abit of all. Last year built 2 lake homes, but now it's kinda comatose up here for work.Upside is more time for the layout!! Also, I love my Paslode Impact!

Der:I'll check the time thing again, PC said it takes awhile.

I got 30' of backdrop painted last nite, doing the "distant treelines"today.

Thanks again for all the welcomes!

Terry

Glad you liked breakfast Sue, and sorry to hear about the laundry issues.

Thanks for the concern.  It is just a fact of life.  Our house is coming up on 12 years old and we were wondering what was going to give up first.  I have been wanting a front loading washer but couldn't justify spending the money when the old one worked fine.  The motor burned up.  With hot smell, I couldn't get it out of our house fast enough.  Now that I know that the normal life is about 10-12 years, I will keep a close eye on the dryer. The worst part was the $$$$.

Philip,

I sencerely hope that things settle down and get better for her.  No one person should have to endure what she has been through.  You two have your faith, and that will help keep you strong.

2008 will be a better year.

Sue

Oh I'm not complaining, and neither is she.  We're both so grateful that she has this opportunity to continue walking for a few more years.  It's just a little crazy right now (and for the last 6 months or so) while we take care of everything.  She's looking good now though and it'll be a few months before the next round of surgeries, so maybe I can get my hobby thing happening somewhere in there, huh? Big Smile [:D]

Warm up that credit card Zoe!  Here they come!

OK, whats it going to be?

in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thank you.

Before I forget, a Welcome Aboard to Foul Fift,  Sarona Terry, & Avenger.

Still freezing temps here. Just broke out over 2" thick slabs of ice from many of our critters water tubs. Where there was deep mud a few days ago is now frozen solid...like walking on an old lava field.

Wife has a bad cough "again". Yikes, poor thing can't seem to stay healthy.
