Hi all,

An eventful weekend, Lewis loses F1 title by 1 point. I got to watch a bit of the Pats V Dolphins on Sky sports. The score was 7-42 in the 3rd quater so I think the fish were well and truly squishedWink [;)]. Saw the "Blue Comet" as Bobby got blown away. The F3 buying the farm was a nice touch.

Chief, My neighbour(electrician) helped us join 25mm armoured cable Friday night. The cable had been layed about 8 years ago in prepration for the garage. However it was about 4 yards short of where the fuse board had to be located in the new design. Had to use a special underground joining kit. Once connections are crimped the whole join area has a plastic mould put around it and then two pack resin poured in.

Just final connection to the fuse board and the mains power line and will have power in the garage and gamesroomSmile [:)].

Just back from a splendid walk. It is absolutely gorgeous out there. High 70's near 80 and dry. Some wet weather is expected tomorrow, so I will most likely be garage-walking then.

Glad to see that the Chief made it home safely. I thought of him yesterday. The wife was watching some foolish cooking show and the cook listed off the ingredients for a quitessential New England breakfast - it included grits! I nearly sprayed Pepsi all over the new furniture!!! I must add that this cook did not have a New England accent. Rather, she had the twang of some redneck rebel that was typically too stupid to come in out of the rain.  Big Smile [:D]

Grits - feh! We don't even feed that glop to pigs up here!

Good morning from a sunny and warm Chicago where I read the Bears QB Brian Griese orchestrated their now-famed, no-timeouts, 97 yd. drive by himself - his helmet earphones and mic malfunctioned so he called all the plays. I know, too much about a 3-4 team but it's a rare piece of good Chicago sports news.  Sorry about the Indians as a fan of a fellow member of the AL Central. If I hear 'Rocks vs. Sox' one more time on TV... Boy, I sure agree with Mike C - I was thinking Sunday, isn't NASCAR over yet? No one should be playing baseball in Nov.

Good morning all,

It will be interesting weather today in SE Indiana with mild temps and some rain on the way sometime today.  Supposed to cool off later in the week.  Sunday was a long day.  Went to earlier church so we could get to Bloomington by noon.  Took the daughter, son-in-law and grandson out to eat.  Grandson was tired and did not eat well while we there.  Took Lucas to an IU admissions meet and greet.  Got home in time to do a half hour walk/run on the YMCA "road course".  Saw where Kimi won the F-1 title, but as usual, there may be some controversy on the post-race inspections.  To the Ohiozonians, sorry to hear about the Indians, but congrats to the Red Sox fans.  On the radio, they were commenting the seventh game of the series (if there is one) would be November 1!?!?!  I have heard of "Mr. October", but a "Mr. November".  They wonder why people lose interest in a sport.  NASCAR is worse, stretching from February to November.  When a season lasts all year, what is the significance of a title?

There was a donut to go along with the usual fare on the dining car this morning.  We also watched "Desperate Housewives" as well.  It was a long day.  Doug, I am glad your daughter is getting over her aches and bruises.  To all affected by the West Coast fires, I hope the fires are soon gone.  Chief, I am glad to hear you are home ok.  To all who made it to York, it sounds like a good time was had by all.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Anyone have any better ideas?

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool 48 degrees. Going up to 80, again, with some rain later.

Today is another busy day. I have all kind of paperwork to do. Make some phone calls and normal chores. Got the hill mowed yesterday. The grass grows faster in the shade. Leaves are starting to finally turn nice colors. Still a lot of green ones here too. No time for trains today

Chief.....Glad you made it home safely.

Indians are done for the season. What more can I say ?

Dining Car has arrived and is ready. Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Goooooooood morning from New England! The trees are finally changing color around here. I can't recall an autumn where the trees were still green this late in October.

Full day yesterday. Washed the car, trimmed the hedges, bagged all the clippings, tidied up the lawn, played with the kids, helped the wife with dinner. Didn't even have time to post a photo on the Photo Fun page. Next week maybe.

I might pull the mold off of Brent's tender tonight and see what's underneath. 72+ hours should be plenty of time for that plastic to gas out.

Evening All

Not a good day here.  Worst of course is the fires.  They are all around us, closest is about 30 miles, but devastating for a LOT of people.  Usually the fires die down at night and everyone gets a little bit of a reprieve.  But not to night!  Winds are still blowing up to 80 mph.  New fire starte in Orange County.  Since 5 pm over 12 houses burned.  Primarily due to flying embers randomly landing on houses.

Good day to stay inside and work in train room.  The winds here are probably gusting up to 30 35, and it looks foggy outside due to all the dust and dirt in the air.

So decided to work on lift bridge instead of wiring.  Mistake.  Trying to get the leading opening to work.  I Believe Bob Nelson had a suggestion about the track on the bridge having an inverted U on the track located on the bridge.  That way when the bridge is lifted the U would swing down.  I believe the U must be cut long enough to accomodate the track on the secure side to slide into the opening when the bridge is open.  The oposite side is no problem, got that figured out with some knife connectors.

Laz, I'm not sure as to where your sister lives but if she has a view of the eastern horizon one of two things is happening;

1. the sun is getting to rise for a second time today, or

2. the fire is getting a lot bigger & hotter.

Tried to get a photo with our old Mavica but I guess it can't pick it up from that far off. Sad [:(]

Laz, who would have thought the Bears could go 97 yards with a minute and a half left to win?!

I see it's supposed to be 70 tomorrow (from 80 today) and 60 Tuesday - maybe Fall has finally fallen here - gorgeous leaves this season so far - reminds me of Jim A's layout.

EVENING ALL

Well Brutus sounds like you have the a/c thing under control now. We had a record temp today so I had to have my Ice cream, saved some for you so just go for it.....The other day someone mentioned soda /pop here it's pop, but I've learned over the years when we travel I played it safe and ask for soda pop that usually covers the bases.....A fine thing happened today, my train friend called and asked if I wanted to go across town to a train show, I said ok and off we went. When we get there, big civic center, no train show signs, we go in and ask. The show is next week.I figured since we were already there we might as well wait.and be first in line. we didn't. So he says there is a small hobby shop near by lets stop there. ok again, closed on sun. & mon. I got home told the wife we just went out to see the fall colors.,,,,,Sir James

I forgot, I don't think friends should let someone wear long ears during hunting season. Never know where Elmer Fudd might be.

Good evening from a quiet Crystal Lake where it was a windy but sunny and warm day - beautiful for mid-Oct. As you noted, the daughter is sore but still shook-up. Thanks for your warm wishes. Doug, hope you are feeling better and can re-celebrate your anniversary without fires bothering you or Don. Between fires, pestilence, drought, earthquakes, is there anything not happening in California these days? This part of the Midwest looks good for the moment...

Looks like a good turn-out (and good purchases) at York; what a bunch of mugs. Worked half-the-day in video for church services, then hung around with the youngest - taking him to the park, trying the bike without the training wheels. Just read him 8 little books - and I can catch up here before the others come home. Hope to run the trolleys in a bit with no pile ups.

Jim S-P, good luck tomorrow.  Here, when they pour concrete for roads, they cover with canvas and spray with sprinklers for a couple days so it dries out slower, making it harder?

I helped pour a solid concrete slab porch about 10 years ago that was about 10 feet by 30 feet and I guess about 8 inches thick.  Jeff had them add that fiber to the mix and it hasn't cracked yet, so I think you made a good decision to use that stuff!  Wish they had used it on my driveway.  I'll need to replace it in a few years, I think.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening all

On nights and have the assignments passed out.  Hopefully a quiet night, a few reports and we have a trainee so I'll be spending some time going over different systems with him for his qualifications.

Buckeye, Good to hear from you, and thanks for the tip of the shop in Huntington, that is only 45 minutes from home.  Maybe take the bride out for dinner with a side trip.

West coast guys-I hope you get rain to get the fires under control.  We've had a few hill fires but nothing like what you get.  When we were in Glacier last month there was an active fire at Hungry Horse, smoke filled the valleys.

Extended forcast has a chance of rain here.  Hope if holds off till Tuesday or late Monday as the concrete is going to be poured in the morning shortly after I get home from work.  Going to make for a long day!  Hiring out the finishing so I'm helping and not doing it alone.  I'll check back in the wee hours if all is quiet.

May God bless

Jim
