Evening All
Fife- Glad you are OK, may be sore tomorrow.
I worked on the layout and got the crane, and Gabe and moved the water tower. I may go ahead and rund the wires for the other coaler while I've the wire wrap off and a mess made.
Scored big time at local train shop! The owner saw me out Friday and said he had some American Flyer stuff and would give me first shot at it. To my complete surprise there was a tipple car set!! I bought the tipple cars another 303 steamer, 3- gons (2-805 & 640) 2 925 tankers, 728 rerailer and a girder bridge for $50. I would of spent $60 just for the tipples. He set the price and I didn't argue. I am cleaning them up now. The loco runs but will need cleaning and a lube. Happy happy happy!!!!
May God bless

Well, that guy will not get the cash I promised him.
Been snoozing with the wife in the livingroom. I went to sleep sitting up and she went to sleep laying down on the couch. We were both suppose to be watching TV. Was up late last night [this AM and got to watch Californication that endid at 2 AM]. Sister-in-law called at 8 AM followed by a person I will not mention [can't keep a job ]. Person, don't blame you. Good luck on the others. Later.

What a great afternoon !!!!!!!!
It appears as if the "Devil Winds" are slowing down, we only have some gentle, although still easterly, winds with some occaissional gusts but no where near what they were yesterday or sunday.
Earlier today we were very concerned about a couple of new fires in the Palomar Mt area but the smoke has abated somewhat from that direction and we can see more blue sky. Now if we can just get some some gentle and VERY HI HUMIDITY cool breezes off the ocean.
I think we can safely say there is a light at the end of the tunnel that ain't a fireball.
It isn't over but it's getting there.

Hope you'll be able to walk it off. Hope you didn't hurt those bunny ears?

My husband has been put on a strike team for our police department as well. My brother in law is out there somewhere on these fires-please pray for all of our police and firefighters that are out there on the fire lines, along with everyone who has lost everything. Prayers for all the folks in CA exposed or working the fires. Hope they get under control real soon. If big rains come, you have mud slides. I guess the better of the worse is mud slides. Good luck and God bless.
BTW: My CTT was waiting when I got home Sunday night. Only had time to look at front cover. Maybe tonight. Off to feed the birds [feeders in my yard] and the deer at the pond. Bet they are saying, " He don't come by anymore and he don't write either." [deer don't speak good English, you all know that don't you?]

Been there before but I had a safe stopping distance(just barley) between me and the next car, it was caused a few cars back where an uninsured and unlicensed teen who may have been under the influence took a corner too fast and slamed into stoped traffic.
in 19 years of driving have been bumped 3 times no major damage however had a car catch fire a couple times once was the alternator and once the starter both on an 88 ford escort

Another beauty of a day out there. Walking was nice. The leaves are starting to change in earnest now at last. Rain later possibly tomorrow.
Hope to read the new CTT tonight. Looks like another great issue. Looking at the photos, Dennis Brennan did a whale of a job on the featured layout. Now this guy knows how to model realism! One of the nicest, most realistic layouts I've seen in a while. Very talented modeler. I can't wait to see the next installment.
thanks Matt,

Cow Mat ???? Hmmm, Never heard of such a thing. And, its used for exercising? OK, (Brent come up with a different name for it.)
Waiting for another frightfull day ! Sure, hope they get the aircraft up today ! Today is suppose to be the last day of the high winds. That being the case, MAYBE today will be the last day of seeing NEW fires starting up. As the wind continues the fires are completly unpredictable, because of the winds shifting directions and how far they carry the embers, creating new fires.
Once the wind dies down, it will still be quite awhile before the fires are out. The area is so huge and the fires are so big, it will take another week or more just to get them out. AT LEAST. But it will be much easier to protect developed areas.
As the Santa Ana winds die down, it is not unusual to get fog, and even some light rain. Results from the "marine layer" rushing in to fill the void, from the lack of winds and lower air pressure. That is always a welcome relief. Currently, the air is less than healthful, and everything has a "reddish" hue to it, due to the smoke blocking the sunlight. As well as it smells like a campfire, everywhere. And everything is covered with ash and layer of dirt or sand.
As far as getting anywhere that is a real issue ! With the number of people evacuated, and the road closures that are in fire areas, the congestion is humongous. The available routes are crowded, and then they are occassionally closed due to high winds. And anyway where do you go?
This will most likely will be the worst fire storm of the season, next couple of weeks probably look forward to arson generated copy cat fires. Seems like it happens every year. Then we will probably have a very wet rainy season which will bring the inevitable mud slides.
I am really surprised that there has not been more loss of life.
The timing for this statement is probably not appropriate, but that never stops me. These fires are "natural" and are NOT new! Its natures way of clearing out all the accumulated dead brush, and cause renewed growth. Some of the plants do not germanate unless their pod temperature gets very high, as a result of a fire. Then, with our efforts to prevent that from occuring, when it does catch it is then much larger than it would have normally been. One of the problems in Arrowhead is the thousands of dead trees in the forest as a result of the "bark bettle", which have NOT been removed. Many, many, issues. With all the continued development into known areas that has this occur, what is to be expected. Last night, one fire was left unchallenged because the area, which is being developed had not been built on yet. It was graded, and being preparred. Now you know it will be one of the 1st areas built up. What is bad in my opinon is that the home buyers may not be aware of the risk when they buy. (Common sense says if you are buying in an area that cannont grow a tree their must be something about that area. Extremely windy, prone to fire, no moisture, extremely hot or something). By law you must advise a buyer of any known problems when you sell, their should be some risk assesment or inherent danger information also provided to perspective buyers. But, I don't think it will happen, politically unpopular, and lots of development $ could be affected. So continue to buy a hillside home, on the edge of the desert, in earthquake country.
Morning all,
Jim F- The concrete was a 6 bag mix with fiber 3” slump
Laz- Too bad about the Indians, I thought they were going to make it.
Brent- Thanks for putting names to faces. After chatting with folks for a while it is good to see a face.
Sir James-I will pray for your wife surgery
Doug and Don- prayers for your safety and other impacted by the fires
Nick- I’ve repaired 240v underground lines as you mentioned but used a shrink wrap insulator with an epoxy sealer. The clamp makes the connection mechanically strong and as long as the wire surfaces are clean and prepped and the wrap is evenly shrunk, they work great.
Jim-I understand your concern, hope Julia doing OK today
Laz-If I told my bride I was going to put a cow mat under a treadmill, I would need to duck in a hurry.
Got the concrete poured yesterday. First truck did not show until 10:30, final finishing was done a 7:00 p.m. It was overcast and cool so finishing was slow. Started raining before we were done so that retarded curing also. Tarped the pad last night since heavy rains predicted. Made for a long day, by the time I went to bed I’d been up for 30 hours. Slept in this morning till 0900.
Going to check out the pad this morning and cut joints if ready. Some homework and maybe put Gabe on the layout
