The entire pole looks real, Fifey. Especially the way Jon stained his for added realism.

My wife's cousin collects old milk bottles and those glass insulators. He has dozens of them.

Jumijo - it's the glass insulator "beads" that really add realism to Nitroboy's t/p poles.  Gotta love it when someone finds a great niche.Thumbs Up [tup]

Good morning all,

It is another rainy day in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s.  Watched Helio make it to another round of "Dancing with the Stars".  I went to a college fair at the local high school for both Lucas and myself.  I did only 20 minutes of trackwork, but I found a good way to pace myself and maintain a consistent run from the start to the first signs of a heart attack, which is when I usually quit :-)  I have been checking items out on eBay, but no purchases lately.  I was terribly disappointed with the new MTH catalog.  There is no Tinplate that attracts my attention this time.  To all in California, our thoughts and prayers go out to you.  Tmcc man, I hope the doctors can get you fixed up as it sounds like you are having a rough time of it.  Fifedog, I am glad you were not seriously hurt.  There was just the usual fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Wes,
I hear ya, but I have over 700 DVDs and don't feel like replacing them... and the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray war just ticks me off... can we say Lionel/MTH, Beta/VHS any one.  Also the price of the HD-DVD players are about 3 times that of a standard upconversion DVD player and the Blu-Ray's are about 5 times... lets not even talk about the dual format players!  10 times +

88 - It sounds like the time to move to one of the HD formats...I have the 400 Disk Sony DVD that isn't really that old.  I can't justify going to HD until something happens to the the I have.

Well last night after working on the bathroom I spent some time with Susan and after she fell asleep I decided to head to the family room to watch Transformers... turned everything on, put the disc in, and my DVD player seems to have caught a cold because none of the HD Upconversion is working... picture coming from the Component Source Cables looks like a dragon on the screen (scaley picture) and the DVI is just scrambled... hooked up to Composite Video and it works fine... I'll play with that mess some other time... maybe time for a new DVD player... Banged Head [banghead]  Fell asleep watching the movie... no idea where I was when I fell asleep either, guess I'll have to start over! Thumbs Up [tup]

Ordered two power upgrades for the Sharks yesterday... once I have that done I'll have A-B-A all powered! Big Smile [:D]Approve [^]Cool [8D]Thumbs Up [tup]

Rainy here today too... maybe I won't be helping my friend with his shed roof... we'll see.

Prayers out to all the Folks in CA. Fires are getting bad.

Yes, Chief, Southern women are Special. They like Yankees.

Dining Car is here and we will have breakfast. Later.

A rainy day here today. Will have to walk in the garage today. Haven't run trains in a few nights, so will most likely do so tonight.

Marty, That sounds about rite, kinda like a catch 22.

EDW, The thought is good but when we have these fires out here the humidity is so low, single digits, the high winds and the heat so intense that water from a sprinkler head would evaporate before landing on anything. We had a small grass fire behind the house some years back so I grabbed the garden hose to start putting some water on it, it was working well til the fire dept hooked up the pumper to the hydrant out front. Once they fired up I could have drank a beer and produced better results than that garden hose. Laugh [(-D] The biggest cause of the houses going up is the burning embers being driven by the very strong winds, pushing them thru soffet vents, under fascia boards and under roofing surfaces regardless of type.

All of that being said the best defense is a clear 100 foot perimeter.

I remember a story on the news when fire were up near Reno and Tahoe.  The law said you could only clear brush up to 50ft or so from the house.  One guy went against the law and cleared further up to 150' I believe.  Guess which house survived?

GOOD Evening - Things may be getting better, at least the winds are calmer.  Sky is red, smoke smell very prevalent.  HOPEFULLY the winds will not increase tonight.  There are still some significant fires, but with some good luck, weather, and the aircraft that has been brought in tomorrow night could be a LOT better.

Watching the California fires on the news tonight, they showed one house that had burned to the ground right next to an in ground swimming pool that must have held at least 10,000 gallons of water. The irony of that image was striking, and got me thinking that there must be a feasible way to construct a homemade sprinkler system that could protect a house from the type of fast moving fires that are now sweeping through California.

Just off the top of my head, I can envision something like pop-up lawn sprinklers permanently installed every ten feet or so along the ridge line of a house, and connected to a water line that runs up to the roof. As a fire grew near, a home owner could turn on a valve and activate the sprinklers to wet the roof, and quickly extinguishing any cinders that landed on the roof. This, coupled with a clear space, free of combustible material, around the perimeter of the house, and maybe some additional sprinklers on the ground aimed at the side of the house, might protect most homes from the kind of fast moving fires California is dealing with.

And one wouldn't even need a swimming pool, since municipal water supplies are unlikely to be unaffected during such fires. And if a home is on a well, a backup generator and auxiliary water pump could feed the sprinklers in the event of a power outage.

I think this might be feasible in view of the fast moving nature of these brush fires, which, like tornadoes, seem to do their damage quickly and then are gone in a relatively short period of time.

While such a sprinkler system might cost a few thousand dollars, for those living in areas susceptible to brush fires, wouldn't this would be a small price to pay, when compared to the cost and aggravation of having to rebuild one's home.  Any thoughts?

Got to get REAL busy around here!!!!  SHE'S ON HER WAY BACK !!!!  Got a call they are in Rolla, Mo.  tonight.  Don't know if they are planing a stop in Branson, I would.  So lots of work here.  I looked at mapquest and it said Rolla, was 1725 miles, time required to drive 1 day 0 hours.  Now thats pretty quick !   I think they might have a problem.

Can't write more, got a bridge to figure out.

Take care.

Have them check to see whether you have a Hiatal Hernia. I was having trouble swallowing. The doctor did an endoscopy and found some acid reflux damage at the base of the esophagus, and a narrowing as well. He ballooned the esophagus a bit and I haven't had any trouble since. I am on Prilosec or Prevacid or a generic, depending on what is available and the price that Medicare will pay. A pill a day is better than the agony I used to go through at mealtimes. Good luck!!!

Good to hear you are OK!  For a second there I thought you posted 'I found a DVD I'd been missing' and was wondering what it would be doing under your passenger seat...

Got some work done on the bathroom tonight! Thumbs Up [tup]  Light Soffets are painted, lights are up, and 1/4 of the shower is tiled! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] Tomorrow I'm supposed to help a friend put the roof on his shed... but only if he's coming over to help me with the bathroom. Should be able to finish the shower the next night I work on the bathroom (bending over to tile takes a lot out of you).  So I won't have the bathroom completed by Sunday, but it will be close...

Tired... watching The Unit.  Chief... why didn't you tell me you were related to one of the hottest chickies on TV?  How about an signed pic? Thumbs Up [tup]

Colin... how's the knee?

Misty - glad to hear you are OK, and prayers for all involved with fires!

Dougonahotseat - Glad to hear you are faring well too!

Brent, I agree with you regarding Emily Procter.

An the knee is a lot better. At my first PT visit I was only able to bend my knee about 78 degrees, but it was re-measured today and it can bend about 110 degrees. So I was very happy with that news. But, as my luck would have it something is wrong with my esouphagus (sp?) I have to get an xray because food sometimes gets lodged.
