Mornin' boys.  Mornin' CHIEF.  Don't kiss me today big guy.

88 - Congrats on the 13 x 18 layout with roof on top!  What side of the town are you on, Frederick or Carroll?  Can you catch a glimpse of CSX from your back door?  Are you near Twin Arch Road (possible modeling idea, go check it out).  Mount Airy Cold Storage (french fry packing plant) usually parks an old SW1 on their siding.  30 minute commute, not bad, but if there's a hiccup on 70 you'll feel the pain.  There is a backroad from Ellicott City west.  If you and the Misses like fancy eats, try BALDWIN's in Sykesville (just don't take a big appetite, take a tie).  I think Purkeys Trains is in that area as well.

Yeah the roof over the Train Room was a bit of a requirement!  I haven't told the misses that when we put the addition out the back and put the brick patio in, I am going to build a Garden Railroad in the back yard... the topography of the land is perfect for a nice little garden railroad winding through some flower beds (misses likes flowers).  No CSX.  Misses doesn't mind the Lionel, but she has a problem with the full scale version.  The Maryland Midland runs right along our backyard right now and every time it comes through she gets woken up and can't get back to sleep and I therefore have to be awake as well! Disapprove [V]  We are on the Frederick side, have loads of woods behind us!  Yeah, I know about Twin Arch Rd, the cut around the I70 interchange is really impressive!  Have to find the Cold Storage place, sounds interesting.  Baldwin's, isn't that the place in the old Sykesville Train Station?  Yeah, Purkey's is pretty neat, that I where I go for most of my LHS visits!

Good Morning from Buckeyeland. This morning after dense fog last night we awoke to sun shine, which lasted all of two minutes.

I don't know who started the Save the Chief fan club and we are doing all we can to help the cause.  We are currently establishing a fund raising campaign to HELP SAVE the CHIEF.   Should have a whole quarter by tomorrow.  Laugh [(-D]

Chief, how can you be sick if you live in Roseyville, where there is hardly a winter?  Is this something you caught on the plane?

Brent, congratulations on the house.  Make sure you do the Garden RR.  It is so easy when compared to inside layouts.

Tomorrow is the fifth time I have had Lipotripcy to bust up a kidney stone.  Sad [:(]  My appointment is at noon.  I should be out for four hours then fell like Censored [censored] for the rest of the weekend.   I will be a drinking fool after the procedure.

Laz, I assume you are checking with the Chief about the private jet to take us Buckeyes to your big party.  We need some lead time so we can get our tuxes rented.

88 - You couldn't have pried me out of New Windsor!  Yeah, BALDWIN's is in the old Sykesville Station.  The town has really become a handsome little place (like an Ellicott City spinoff).  There are some good looking watering holes too.  The tower just west of the station is actually former PRR (can't remember which locale though).  Sykesville also hosts a model railroad fest (maybe in the summer?) once a year.

Well the promised rain shower is a reality.  I ran the PU through the car wash to get most of the salt and grime off of it and no more than got backed into the garage and the heavens opened up. Still raining 2 hours later.   Doing a job on the snow.

Buckeye, Harrisburg has an Amtrak station, book a train ride, ask the Chief for his CC number.Smile [:)]

BTW, it is about time we start planning our April YORK get together that we talked about last year.  Don Baker will be there this year from Sunny California.

Buckeye sorry to hear about kiddney stones, my dad is in the hospital with a kiddney infection but is doing better then he was.

I saw the perfet thing to add to the OSU train it was a small Brutus Buckeye figure about O sized it was part of a coffee mug and they apperantly come off pretty easy as there were a lot of mugs with the figure missing. I found them at Schottensteins on the East side of Columbus but needed a shirt more than the figure. I will have to go back out there and see if they have any left.

Reggie I know what you are going through with education/experience thing. I have over 13 years experience in electronics field but my degree in electronics is from 1990 and considered out of date so I took on-line courses to get a B.S. in Technical management this opens up a few more doors except I have no management experience.

Good afternoon from a sunny and windy Crystal Lake where is 35 but everyone is walking around in shirt-sleeves - funny how the body gets used to temps in the teens - then a little warmup and bang-o - feels like summer. Got the bike out of the garage for my middle boy. Hope everyone is feeling better.

Just enough time to send a quick hello from the frozen tundra of Alaska. The weather is climbing all the way up to -28°f today under bright (but usless for warmth) sunny skies (much better than the -40°f we had this moring). You folks down south might not want to put your long-johns away just yet. If this cold snap we are having decides to take a detour south of the border you will surely recognize it when it arrives!

I am going to try and take a picture of the a truely polar express for everyone later this evening. I have to go unplug my rig, warm it up and head home from the office to cover some parental duties. Take care.

Best Regards from the Freezer!     Kevin T.

Hey everybody- As I don't read everything here, I do lurk. For those that don't know, I blew out my back and they got me on some good drugs. To wasted to drive or do much of anything except trains. I got a "Sprit of 76" Loco that was my Dad' that always ran like a POS, and would hardly pull itself no matter what I did to try and get it to go. I was thinking on dumping it on E-bay, was also thinkin of getting a older motor truck unit for it when I got to thinkin, what if I just swapped the armature/worn shaft from all the oddball parts I have and see what happens. Low and behold, runs like a champ! Why is that the old postwar stuff is so much better than the newer stuff?

i know what speed bumps are for to make you drive slow through a specific area of street, but wouldn't these speed bumps make the train derail off the track.

Ha ha rrtrain. Where did you find the photos of the rails when a loco grinds through the rails with a stuck throttle. There is a story by a former UP Big Boy engineer on the old Pentrex Big Boy tape/DVD where a Big Boy stalled with a stuck throttle and it sat there running grinding through the rails.

Hope all had a good day. Meetings were long and difficult today. Lot's o' arguing on best practices and approaches. I was right in the thick of it. Ugh. Get to drive home tomorrow after lunch.

Regards, Roy

Tom, good one!  Also, I love those AB cars on your layout.  Being a St. Louis boy - I've invested serious $$$ into their product lines.  Was shortsleeve weather today and supposed to be in the 30s for a high tomorrow.  My wife and son are going on a school fieldtrip to the Arch.  You guys might not have heard about this, but there are weird marks showing up on the stainless steel on the STL Arch.  They think that it's an artifact caused by excessive pressure on the rollers when the panels were manufactured, just now showing up...  I'll bet that warranty expired!  Hmmm - I think I hear some Bud Light calling to me from the fridge!  Gotta work OT this weekend, but maybe work on the layout this weekend.  TTFN

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I have been running trains only a little the past 2 weeks.  I have received 4 USRA Atlas 2 bay coal hopppers and another is on the way.  They are really nice and look good behind my steamers.  Most of the day I spent Spring cleaning.  I really hate inside house work.  But it has to get done sometime.  Going to see the dead sea scrolls this Sunday at KC Union Station.  Should be interesting. Be well.

Good morning from a frosty Gettysburg.  Currently 27 degrees with highs to get into the 30's.  There's a chance of some snow, sleet and freezing rain on Sunday. Give me plain ole snow any day.  Family is supposed to come up Sunday for a concert.  Hope the weather holds up so the show will go on.

Take care,
