Mornin' boys.  Finally gonna be a mild one today in the Mid-Atlantic area.

AKKevinT - the layout car is on static display just inside the rear yard of the museum.  It was one of the new features during the museum's grand reopening.   Not sure if the B&O's museum website has a picture of it, but it is perched under the newly constructed passenger platform.

88 - sounds like MITCH has you covered on the other signature.  Now all we gotta do is get together.  Sounds like an operating session at my house (unfortunately NOT in Ijamsville).

Thank you all for the great Birthday wishes!!! Wow!! [wow] It was a busy day, so I didn't have time to get on the forum.  I especially want to thank the Chief.  The new rod and reel he sent me for my birthday is great.  (For you newcomers, the Chief's always sends out great gifts to those on the coffee pot for their birthday.) I've been reading the postings about the Lionel Docksider.  A Docksider with a steel company logo could be used with ore cars and make a nice consist.

Currently, it is 40 degrees in Buckeyeland.  I might pack up and go to the beach.  Friday is the day they are going to blast the kidney stone.  This is the third or forth time I have had it done and it is not fun.

See ya down the tracks,

Still waiting for my gift, since Jan 1st?  Probably will bring it for me when he comes to Harrisburg?

laz57

That sounds about right.

That means he is going to have to bring two... one for Laz and one for me since my b-day is the week before 'The Gathering'... ummm... Isn't that what the immortals were waiting for in Highlander?  The movie with Kurgan and McCleod where they cutoff other immortals heads?  I'm not sure we should call it 'The Gathering', we may send the wrong impression.  I'm rather found of my head!  LOL!!!!

Fife and Mitch,
Sounds good to me!  If a get together is too difficult, I can travel to meet individually too.  I work in Bal'more and am off at 3:30pm.

Mitch is only about 30 minutes North of where I live now... Just have to hop on MD 97N and I'm in Gettysburg (outlet mall) in 30 minutes... don't ask how I know how long the trip is to the Gettysburgh Outlets... Whistling [:-^]

one of the highlights of my birthdays are the beautiful post war steamers Cheif sends out as birthday gifts. At this rate, by the time I'm 80, I'll have quite a collection. Big Smile [:D]

Chuck,

"Points West" did have breakfast before sending the dining car east, but the back pain is fogging up my brain.  Sorry!

Chief - I'm a little out-of-the-loop on what's going on March 24th---Train show?  As far as eat-em-ups, may I suggest Duke's  restaurant in Wormleysburg (ENOLA).  It is situated right on the Susquehanna River on the west shore right across from the capitol.  Also, 83 is just to it's south, and 81 is a mile or so to the north.  I've spent a lot of days railfanning up there, and had always driven by Dukes in favor of Wendys.  Not any more.  Great food, great views, plenty big for a gathering, about the price you would pay at an Outback.

Good morning from a grey and warm Chicago where it is 36 degrees. Glad to see it is ice-cold back in Alaska where it belongs. Today is my long day with class tonight but I'll get to re-peruse the March CTT and the K-Line catalog on the milk-run home. Love that CSS&SB interurban.

Chief is heading back North for another recon mission... the Northern Troops decided we couldn't afford to let him inflitrate any further than Harrisburg, so we have coordinated an intercept at Bass Pro Shops (seems he likes to visit these places).  We would then fatten him up some more with some fine Northern Cuisine.  We may have to torture him with some CSX vantage points as well...

Morning all.  50+ degrees and climbing.  You all pick the place and time.  Afternoon/evening?  Does not matter to me.  I arrive on Thursday [don't usually spend much time at the store on Thursday], there Friday, Saturday and fly out Sunday afternoon.  I figured breakfast is too early for those having to drive some distance.  Got to get seeds started in greenhouse.  Behind on that.  Need to prune the grape vines [that is a job].  Got to plow the garden over and add lime.  Then put on Mocap and disk in.  Off to Myrtle Beach SC on Thursday.  Got another County/Town meeting tomorrow at 4 PM. Censored [censored]  Messes up my time home.  Have not been upstairs to train room since last Wednesday night.  Guess they are still there.  Going right now.  Have a good one and God bless.

88 & CHIEF - as fate would have it, The READING bridge is just south of Duke's, in plain view, and CSX does traverse it regularly.  But ENOLA/Harrisburg is dominated by NS, and the Chief will feel right at home trackside.  Plus you get visitors from BNSF, UP, and even CN.

Morning guys,

Was a good day yesterday.  Got home in time to watch the Mid-West Traction editions of Trains and Locomotives.  Getting ready for my meeting in macon and then we are going to Tennessee.  Anyway, talk soon.  PS: Chief sent me a bass boat and a 700E.

Good morning from New England!

Buckeye, belated Happy Birthday! Those Zebco rod and reel sets are great, huh?

Speaking of the Chief's generosity, The boys and I had a great time yesterday adding real coal loads to hoppers he sent us. We used aquarium charcoal (not gravel). It looks so real!

A nice, lazy 3 day weekend. Ahhh. We ran trains a lot! I got an old lighted Lionel caboose to work again. Boy, those old bulbs were much brighter than the new ones!

Have a great day, all.

Jim

Jim, thank you and everyone else for the belated Birthday wishes, but you just hit nerve!!!!  I remember using black charcoal in aquariums many years ago.  (How do you think I became such a great fisherman?)  Well, anyway, I have always wondered if this aquarium gravel or charcoal would be good for loads.  What we need are:

I want to see those coal loads.

guys i'm back for a little while to sit and talk/chat about trains for a week or two. things didnt workout with the nashville kats as the coach said i didnt fit into his top three defensive backs. which was telling me that i wasnt one of his guys, as all the vets say he just brought me in to camp to keep his top three guys from getting hurt. its ok though as i have lost my job in the nfl which prepared for any other professional sports job if i got cut/released. i was a little disappointed but i looke at the bright side i get to go home and enjoy my beautiful wife and daughter. to a great suprise it was to see those two ladies. me and the wife sat and talked about my future as to what i'm going to do with my life from here on out. well we talked and i desided to retire from the nfl and go to school for truck driving which i will begin in two weeks. it was hard to do (retire), but its something i had to do in order to move on with my life. as you cant make any money sitting at home dreaming, hoping, and wishing. so now i have to jump into this thing called the real working world and man trying to get a job these days having only played football your whole life and not really having a job. you get turned down a whole lot because you don't have any experience. it really starts to hurt your pride and self esteme and really starts to make me think did i choose the wrong profession. now its like i have to start all over with my life from scratch. i got a great jump on life as all my family have been telling me, but i have to just sit and think what it is that the lord wants me to do with my life, and i think it is truck driving. that means i will get to visit almost all and every hobbyshop that i have not visited as of now. so that also means that i will get to se some of you guys layouts sooner than thought if the invitation is still out there for me to except, and i will except the offer if my truck route sends me that way. for now i hope all is well with you guys as i have not been on the site in a few or so, and trying to catch up with all the postings man its going to take a while to do so. as i think my last post here was on page 78 or maybe even farther back.

if i missed any birthdays, anniversaries, or any relatives are sick. i hope all are well and all you guys who had birthdays/anniversaries hope you had great ones and take care.

Hi all,

Reggie, good to hear from you again.  Good to keep your options open, you will succeed.

Very warm high 40's and wet.  Washing the salt off the cars.

Wired up the two coalers on the same switch with a SPDP selector switch, didn't work just right so a little more work there.  I made some coal loads for my 640 hoppers similar to the one's I've got in my gons.  They are made from packing foam and painted black.  Here is what they look like in the gons;

I took several pics of the process and if you're interested I'll post them.

Recieved the new to me Franklin 21088 and the 20 30 & 40 passenger cars today I won on the bay.  Very nice; minimum to do to them to bring them to 100%.  I was thinking of truning them in a Washington (different color scheme), but these are too nice!

Prayers to those who need them (and who doesn't!)

Jim

Ditto here Reggie, And Welcome back to the forum.

As for the Harrisburg meeting.  March 24th suits me, I would prefer lunch, say 1:00 or 1:30.  Never been to Dukes.  If you want something close to Bass Pro, I would suggest Doc Hollidays which is just around the corner.  May be more convenient for the Chief.  How do the rest of you feel.  Who all is comming.

Reggie, I'm very sorry to hear that that deal didn't work out for you.  I know if you pray about this, God will send you a good job.  Truck driving will take you away from home a lot, but you guys might be used to that.  Be sure to look at the healthcare and other benefits involved. God bless you and your family and I pray that you get some good help from friends and family.
