Back in 1958, guess how many cheerleaders would want to go to the Homecoming Dance with you if you drove a...STUDEBAKER? HA!
Here's mine - a 1956 Power Hawk. I replaced the stock 259 CI 4 bbl. with a 265 CI Chevy mouse motor, bored it .125 to 283 CI and put 6 2bbl carbs on it. I kept the stock stude 3 speed w/overdrive and moved the column shift to the floor. Millings full race cam pushing against double Isky valve springs - shift points were 7,000 RPM. Man, that thing screamed at 7K!
Corvairs, MOPARS, and GTOs were easy...so were the Corvettes, except the 327, 365 HP fuelies were a struggle since most of them had posi-traction.
laz 57 wrote:BUCKEYE, A little norteast of Oswego is where I go salmon fishing, in Pulaski NY about 15 miles. People there tell me that 4 feet of snow is nothing. But when it starts to get higher then that then we have a problem. I was listening to a national news station at noon today and they had the mayor of Oswego on and he said that all the roads now are one lane, cause they have nowhere to push the new snow. Now thats what I call lots o snow. laz57

laz57 The last I heard Oswego had 7 feet total!!! Expecting another foot or so before it's all over!

HI GIZ,
Just got done running trains. NO MAJOR PILE UPS. Just a minor incedent with a trolley and some dirty track. Got it cleaned up.

Dirty track????? What do you mean by dirty????? Would that fall under the erotic trains forum?????
Jimbo - Great to see you stop by. My first car was a 62 Ford Galaxy 500 convertible. How great that was being in HS. Then my next car was 69 Road Runner, 383, 4:10 gears, 4 speed, 300 deg dwell cam, 750 AFB, yep did 13.8 at 110 in the 1/4 mile. What a great street machine.
It was this color too.
and then there was the 'A' fuel rail, 301 Chevy fuel injected on Nitro, 8 sec at 200mph in the 1/4 mile.
Tammy - great to here about Big Boy!

Time for bed. Was so tired, I went to sleep watching good movie. Earlier, did run trains while I was cleaning rifle [just getting to doing a good cleaning, wipe down each time I shoot it].
Good night and going to sleep with GOOD NEWS. God bless.

Stubbs. Keep the nose above the horizon and watch out for those white flashes from below. Will be glad when you get home [and the rest of our great Troops]. Keep on posting. Think this is real first for the Coffee Pot. Anymore of the Troops out there are really welcome.
Up early for Town Board retreat. Should be going to the TCA train meet. Will miss all the rest for the spring due to travel. Jim A suggested I tell them I am sick and go anyway.
Off to the real coffee pot. Later
My first car was a 1934 Singer 8 Drop Head Coupe, cost 55 Quid 10 weeks pay in 1958. It was such a wreck that I spent more time fixing it than I did in the driving seat, so I sold it and bought a good push bike. It took 20 years and 200,000 miles to wear my knee and hip joints out. My favoured form of personal transport has to be Honda 4 potter, rode m'bikes from 17 to 60 when my health gave out and I had to sell my trusty 22 YO. CB550F, a sad time as I had kept it in just out of the box condition throughout.
Lionel is out of the box, I am quite impressed with the detail and quality, the ore cars are particularly impressive. Hoping to get some time next week to do something about powering it up.
Sorry for you guys in NY, our TV shows 2.5 metres of snow. Stockport had 3/8" snow at 0800 yesterday, it had gone by lunch.
Pleased to hear the good news on the health front. Chief is your hand trouble Dupuytrens Desease?

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is 7 degrees outside and sunny. Going up to 24 today with sun all day. Looks like it will be cold for awhile.
Today, I have to run some errands. Stop at a few local stores and pick up some things. Maybe later this afternoon, I will spend some time in the train room, working on wiring up the blocks for the new sidings. I think I will do some dusting of cars. It's that time again for a little maint.
Dining Car has arrived from " points west " and it's time for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Saturday.

My first car was the family car - just about the biggest beast ever made - 1960 Mercury Monterey:
I remember when my Dad bought it new. I went with him to pick it up - $2,265.00. He paid for it in $20.00's. When you're seven that seems like all the money in the world.
Good Morning All from NE Ohio
Where we are still very cold at 7 deg, but should be warming up to 24 deg today. That will be the first time we will be in the 20's in the past two weeks.
stubbsO - fly safe and good to have you stop by. And many thanks for the work you are doing to keep us all safe, even Chief!
For those who really have the need for speed, this is the first race of the NHRA, espn2. Army of One (Tony Schumacher) is qualifed at #1 with 4.483 and 328.3mhp, Now that is moving!
We had another great OTTS meeting lastnight. GregM brought up his Lionel K-4 to run along side Charlie's K-line K-4.
and Frank brought his Lionel Jr for us to play with, 1934 version.
Medina Train show tomorrow.

Too bad you do not have the 63 Impala even if it was the best piece of rust you've ever had. You should have sprayed it with WD-40 to get the rust off. Talk about a Frame-off restoration-Whew! Chief- Glad your mother is fine for now. Also hope that BigBoy will get better too. Take Care all.
Kieth,
As Chief and JimDuda will confirm, your generous offer could make you a Corvair owner before you know it! . The last Corvair I bought cost me $250 back in 1998. It kinda got thrown in with a deal on a '64 Greenbrier van. It's a lowly '60, 500 sedan...#605 off the Canadian assembly line. Once I bolted on an exhaust system and bypassed the leaking front brakes it was....um...road worthy. I retired it soon after so it could go through a thorough resto and now has more money dumped into it than it's worth. The wife has put her name on it since it's automatic and she can't drive the yellow 4spd. That's fine with me though. The '60 is sedate, reliable and is relatively bullet proof. After I finish the paint ( black lacquer ) and bolt on the trim it'll be ready for the road again. I can already hear her complaints about it having no radio, RH sun visor, arm rests or outside rear view mirror....all options it never has had.
After running the K-Line Torpedo yeaterday I thought my Atlas switches were loosing electrical continuity...again! The engine would stall somewhere near the switch frogs so I did some slow test runs to see it I could pinpoint the problem. With the engine immediately in front of me it stopped dead in a flurry of sparks that shorted my ZW. The pivot screw on the trailing truck of the engine had dropped out. I was really lucky to have this happen when it did cuz trying to find that screw in between the ties somewhere on the layout could have been a real nightmare. After fixing the problem the engine ran perfect again without stalling. The screw must have worked itself out enough to cause contact with the center rails while traversing the switches then finally fell out completely.

Might have to go to "The Club Car Lounge" with the Model Train Journal, for Dirty Tracks? HUBA HUBA, for the Pretty Ladies and Trains thread.
Morning GIZ,
Off to the train show this afternoon then down to Harrisburg for the Outdoor Show that will be held indoors at the Farm show complex. It is the Largest Outdoor show on the east coast. Cost $11.00 to get in but we got free tix so all we have to pay for is parking,$5.00. Oh well a day away from the wives. Look at trains and hunting and fishing stuff, Great Day.
OK OK. SOORRRY! Didn't know Hicksville was such a special place. But if that's the case, how come no one offered to meet him there and share a treat on the patio - like maybe some snohizo snow-cream???

Good afternoon,
Spent the morning in the greenhouse seeding watering, etc. Ran a few trains and took some pics for Sunday Photo Fun. Now to work on a few train projects on the bench.
Laz, I didn't get to the Sportsmens show this year. Son & grandsons are going to a trapshot tomorrow, but I begged off, to cold for me.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Hi Folks,
Lazy Day around here. The Mrs. is off visiting her girlfriend. The dog and I are holding down the fort. Watched WV beat UCLA, great game for the Mountaineers, then took a little snooze. Going to get ready and go out for a while. The Mrs. washed her cell phone in her jeans pocket and now it will not charge, so probably need to get her a new one. I'll look at what they have at Wal-Mart, probably pick up a sammich' or a bowl of chili for dinner.
Take care,
Mitch

Hi guys,
Just thought I would mention that train manufacturers are not the only ones to miss shipping dates. Back in early 2006, don't remember the exact date, I ordered a Corgi Sherman Tank M4A3E8 which was to be shipped May of 2006. It just arrived in today's mail from Diecast Direct. Only 9 months late! Just like MTH & Lionel.
Mitch, Electronic items don't like to be washed. Dove into the pool one time with my hearing aid on, didn't work to well after that.
Stubbs, Welcome to the POT. We all look up to the military folks here. I believe, most of us are of some service or another.
Thoughts are with Elliot and Big Girl, also with the folks in NY. Was a bit chilly this morning but right now it is about the mid 60's. Saw that Jim Duda visited earlier.....Hey Jim, they need you and your snow blower in NY.
Did a little layout work this morning. Got the last of the foamboard held down with Liquid Nails. Rough story getting the Liquid Nails at Home Depot. Went through the new "Self Checkout" lane. My bride wanted to go along and buy some plants. If you remove the plants from the bagging tray, as there is not enough room, the machine barks at you and won't proceed. Then the girl comes over and tries to figure it out. I tell her forget it, I will go to a manned lane, she insists on keeping at it. run more items through this "fast" checkout and then the next plant...same thing. If I didn't have the family with me, I would have just left the stuff there and told them to figure it out.. I won't be using that again.
I did actually get some wiring done on the layout. I will have a powered loop and hopefully more this week.
Dennis
Editing this post as I write, I am watching Elliot on the "Building a O Gauge Layout" video. He has done a lot to further the hobby. Thanks Big Boy!
