Thanks JOHN,

Don't know if I want to get that involved but it sure looks nice, especially the potholes.

Good morning from a snowy and warmer Chicago where it is 31 and feels like 25. Had to laugh at the weather.com forecast that honest-to-goodness asks us to watch for mosquitos mid-week... there isn't a live mosquito within 500 miles.  Still snowing a bit - maybe 2 - 3 inches. Nothing like the media panic storm alert - what a joke - I detest constant screen scrolls telling me it is snowing out which I can see out the window. Some switches were frozen this morning on the UP's 'track 2' on their northwest lines. My scoot actually beat the expresses into Chicago.

Jim A., May Julia get better soon. Sounds like a bug.

Laz, I use roof shingles for my single lane country roads (lotsa color choices, nice texture, easy to cut into curves, etc.

Buckeye, I watched that Blackhawks hockey game on TV - a very rare occurance in Chicago. They just can't do hockey well on video...

Can't believe Spring training is starting soon. Go Sox!

Hey! Is that Laz's Bear ambling down the street outside my office?

Good luck, Chief. I've been so worried about Julia that I completely forgot about your hand surgery.

I've already got Valentine's Day covered. I bought a bunch of V-Day cards and slipped a couple of gift cards into them. They will be deposited around the house so my wife will find them easily. Flowers are a given and if the weather is good, we will go out for Chinese food (her favorite).

And not for nothing, but the weather is supposed to be lousy here Wednesday. A Nor'easter is coming up the coast and threatens to drop a foot of white death on us. Hmmmm, that might not be a bad thing . . .

Morning all!

We're expecting the big snow dump too!  Maybe we'll luck out again and it'll bypass us.  The problem with that type of thinking is the folks who already have too much snow will get more of the unwanted white stuff.  Let's hope it's just another all too common weather report scare.

Laz,

Maybe try sandpaper.  Pick the grade you think suits then glue with rubber cement so it won't wrinkle or buckle.  The different colors and grits offered gives you a wide variety to choose from and the low quality grades are inexpensive enough.  BTW, it makes great stuff for scratchbuilding rooftops on buildings.  2" strips for flat rooftops or cut into thin strips and notched with an Exacto makes very realistic looking shingles.  Paint, chalk, weather to your liking.

Hooked up 2 Lionel Banjo crossing signals this weekend.  These devices are the only action accessories on my layout. Next comes laying a road crossing using my own advice on sandpaper.

Take care all.

Valentines Day Buckeye--you bet.

Hallmarks sent to the three Grand Daughters first[with a little cash enclosed]. Small piece of Swarvoski Crystal for my wife [about 6-7 boxcars worth]. Teddy Bear with heart-shaped pendant on a ribbon and heart-shaped nose. She collects crystal so I never make the mistake of forgetting B-days, anniversaries, etc. But main reason is that she is on the mailing list and receives a regular catalog from Charles Ro.

Best wishes to the Chief. Hand serves as a tough tool when you bang it up, but when Surgeon cuts on it---so very tender!

What are you getting your Valentine?

Ordered two dozen roses about two weeks ago (I like to get her lots of roses and not spend half my paycheck, so I order them early and have them delivered on V-Day).

Have to stop at the Hallmark store and pickup some cards and maybe that talking cat thing they advertise on TV.

Since I get home 1.5 hours before she does, I will stop at the butcher and pick up some Filet Mignon for dinner... traditionally V-Day dinner menu:

Appetizer:
Italian Sausage stuffed mushroom caps

Salad:
Romaine Lettuce, shredded carrots, purple onion, walnuts tossed with a light balsamic vinegarette

Main Course:
Filet Mignon, wrapped with smoked bacon, rubbed with secret steak seasoning and grilled to Medium Rare for me, Medium for wife

Garlic Cheddar mashed potatoes

Steamed Brocolli with Thyme

Dessert:
Warm blueberry pie with Vanilla Ice Cream

If she is feeling up to it we usually crack open a bottle of Chateauneuf Du Pape.

Sorry Jim, after trains my next biggest passion is cooking!  Wife doesn't eat fish, and doesn't particularly care for chicken, and I don't have time to cook a turkey, it I have to go with steaks! Dinner [dinner]

Since my mind isn't in the gutter right now... I have no idea how you could have had fun with my post? Confused [%-)]

88 - thanks, but I'm actually starting to feel better now, soooo, indeed, I will be out in the muckity-muck the next 2 days.  If I see fireworks coming from the northwest on Wednesday, I'll know all your preparations worked.

CHIEF - good luck with the hand.  Is it the typing one, or the wiping one...?

Good morning/afternoon all!

Raining (we still need it so keep it coming) and cool today (40's), predicting some flurries for Wed.

White Death in Ohizo can mean only one thing - a huge GRITS storm. Buckeye - that nuclear power plant will be useful to make sure they are fully cooked!

Best wishes for those that are ill or being "carved" on to get better soon!

Have a great day all!

Jim, prayers go out for your daughter.  Tough to watch them when they are sick.  Chief, already lifted you up big guy.  Hang in there (with your good hand of course).

My big plans for a meeting in Ohio have been scrubbed....my meeting will actually be in Macon, GA, just two hours away.  Bad thing is that no good train stores nearby.  Although, they do have the Rock and roll Hall of Fame.

As to Valentines, already got the bride her favorite chocolates.  I do plan on picking up flowers on the way home, I am on call so we have to see.  As to cooking, I learned while at the firehouse, so we will have a nice big meal.  No alcohol, again, I am on call.

Anyway, take care,

dennis

Good afternoon to all. The TCA Train Sale took place in Raleigh this past weekend and I walked away with a few good things - an ACL hopper, a US Navy BEEP that does wonderous work with operating cars and pleases me immensely, and a metal postwar Lionel floodlight tower that now illuminates the yard and the Marx Freight Depot. No more post-dusk shirking; the bright lights of the floodlight tower ensure that everyone is earning his wage!

Hi all

I hope and pray are are well, and special intentions for all who need them.

Jim - Too bad about your daughter being sick, we had the grandkids up yesterday, and the boy ended up with a 102 fever.  All the kids helped grandma make cutout cookies (in train shapes of course!) so I hope he didn't share anything.

Chief - I hope the hand recovery does not delay the layout progress too much for you.  The progress is fantastic.  I guess when you take the time to plan on the front end it makes the work go smoother!

Laz - I used 1/4 black foamboard for my roads.  I beveled the edge and with a litte white glue and sand made the berm.  Here is a pic

After down took white chalk and colored it with the side of the chalk then lightly cleaned it off making it look like a dirty chalkboard.  I varyed the shading for the "wear" on the road.  Because the kids play with cars on the road around the layout I need something that would be tough.  I just go back and "freshen up" the wear after greasy fingers are gone.

Afternoon all,

Valentine thing all taken care of except the card, forgot to get it when I was out today.  Hope they still have some left tomorrow.

Went to the fitness center this morning, that took care of all my ambition for today.  Going out to dinner this evening as will have three grandkids Wednesday evening.  I generally make dinner every Thursday evening, this week it will be cornish hens.

Chief, Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jim, Also with Julia.

I also get a kick out of the doom and gloom weather forecasters.  They act like none of us have ever experienced snow & that the world will come to an end if you can't jump in your car and drive down the street at 70 mph.

John, Not all of the guys buying diecast cars are train guys, some just collect the cars.  Some times I strike up a conversation with the other lookers.

Brent, I don't envy you the house hunting.  Only ever bought one house 40+ years ago, and still live in it.  We moved around so much when I was a kid that I vowed I wasn't going to do the same.

All take care and WATCH OUT FOR THE BIG STORM!

It has started to snow, lightly here on Blueberryhill.

The Mansion is secured. All the cars are in the garage.

We have stockpiled about 6 months worth of food and beverages.

We are ready for 1 to 3 inches of snow ???

I'm off to the house... UPS says my new B&O Passenger Cars have arrived from Bill!  Have to check 'em out before the wife gets home, scarfs them up, and hides them for my b-day!

I'll check back in when I have gawked over the loot!

BTW - Bill, wife listened to your message while I was standing there... told her you left a message that started 'this message is for Susan, I hope you get this before your husband...' I stopped the message (I don't listen to messages intended for her when they start that way)... so I get to find out what the surprise is! Smile [:)]

Brent

Just got home and opened the loot!  (Wife said it was fine to do so).  All I can say is WOW!!!!!  These cars are really nice!  Thanks Bill!  The surprise was really nice as well!

Thanks!
