Hey - just got a complete refund on Paypal and they said to toss out the RS kit, not mail back.  I posted good feedback - not their fault I guess, somebody told them it was new and never used, just didn't tell them that the batteries melted down inside!  I guess I can just throw in the regular trash, or should I take and dump in a used battery bin at Home Depot or something?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hi All, Sorry to hear about your Mom Chief. Glad she is OK.

Very heavy snow here today, weather men say it will continue all day. Charlie is home as school is closed.

I have to drive to Steubenville, OH on Thursday and stay to Saturday. I wondered how bad it is west of Pittsburgh and into the Great State of Ohio? Are there any "must see's" in the area?

Best Regards, Ken

Today in the Great State of Ohio, it is cold and clear.  The sun is shinning, a rare occurrences for this part of the country in the winter.  Schools are closed again today due to the cold.  The heaviest snow was in Southern Ohio where the hills can make it more fun.

Ken, Steubenville, Ohio is just north of Wheeling, WV and Bridgeport, OH.  Both of these communities are on I-70.   There are two trains stores, TS Hobbies and G&M Trains and Hobbies in the area that I think you would like.  (Google, can get you maps.) TS regularly advertises in CTT.  The Chief and I have both visited TS and they do a nice job.  G&M many times carries Williams and Weaver, which are somewhat a novelty in this area.  There is another store in the area, Patricks.  I have not visited this store, so no opinion.

Also in Wheeling is the Kruger Street Train and Toy Museum.  If you are a fan of Marx, this is a must see.  Even if you are not a fan of Marx, it is very interesting.  Marx was made just south of Wheeling.

The big Cabela's Store is in Wheeling if you like the outdoors.

See ya down the tracks,

Buckeye,

Many Thanks for this information. I found G&M, Patricks, and Kruger Street Train and Toy Museum. I could not locate TS Hobbies in any of my CTT's or by search. I may be able to pull off a visit to one or two of the others. I could spend a few hours in a Cabela's but my wife knows where I keep the Government Model when I'm off duty. Not going to even ask.

I hope this trip is better than our trip to Gettysburg two weeks ago. Daughter felt sick after her University tour and we had to rush directly home. Battlefield Auto Tour lasted 4 minutes as we blasted our way NORTH thru town.

Thanks again, Ken

Ken - hope the next trip to G'burg is more leisurely.  Perhaps you can manage to stop in at Carver's.

It's 17 degrees here in G'burg this AM.  Feels like a heat wave compared to the last few mornings.  It may even get to 30 by this weekend.

Yesterday was a snow day.  Got quite a bit accomplished at work (Yes we are expected to report on snow days).  Today I am at an all day training that was postponed for icy roads in January.  What a joyous experience listening to two hired talking heads for 8 hours....Banged Head [banghead]

Good morning from sunny New England. Cold, but sunny!

My thoughts and prayers to Elliott. Life is a very fragile, uncertain thing. When I hear of health issues of that gravity, it makes me appreciate all that I have even more. There but for the grace of God go I . . .

Yeah, I'm still here. You didn't really think I'd leave, did you?!!! You guys are my peeps(kinda)! Well, most of you are. I love this forum! Come on now. How could anyone take seriously anything I say? Especially about leaving? You guys are stuck with me.

Besides, I'm known as a trouble making, flame war starting, MTH bashing psycho rabblerouser on OGR.

I lost another auction last night for a Lionel 736 Berk. Not surprising as I bid low. I'd seen the same item, poor photo and all, offered not long ago, so the only way I was going to bid was to bid low. Missed it by 7 bucks! I'll just buy the Chief's. Maybe I can trade him some scenery talent for it? Whistling [:-^]

I was watching Jim Barrett work on a 736 last night. He pronounced it Berk-shy-re.  I'm sure most of you pronounce it the same way. But here in Massachusetts, where the Berkshire Mountains are, the same mountains that the loco was named after, we pronounce it Berk-sheer. So from now on, I want everyone to pronounce it "Berksheer".

Good morning all,

SSDD as far as the weather in SE Indiana.  I am glad to hear Chief's mom is going to be ok, but sad to hear the news about Big Boy.  Good to hear Jim A is not really leaving us. Jim F, that is a bummer about the electronic set.  I hope you get your money back.  I sent the dining car to "Points East" with the usual menu this time, nothing special today.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold , sunny " 0 "  degrees. Going up to 21 today. That's not exactly warm. Suppose to warm up next week. I hope.

Today, I am staying around the house. Have a few chores to do and then down to the train room to work on the layout. I have all the materials that I need. Just have to get busy and put it all together. Think I will run trains on the lower two main lines while I am working.

Chief....Glad to hear your Mom is doing better.

Elliott ( BigBoy )....We are all praying for you. Get well.

I hear the Dining Car pulling in. Time for breakfast. Until later.

Y'all have a great day.

Good morning!    CSXT30 (aka John),

Thank you for asking about me on the "Foiled by slow boat from China thread!"

Doing pretty good down here in southern Florida, the tornado's were up near Mickey Mouse Land in central Florida, missed the Mouse's House by less than 40 miles.   I didn't know about the tornado's until the next day's evening's news on T.V.  There is one thing that I will be buying in a couple of days and that is a weather alert radio!

I live near Miami FL just below West Palm Beach, about 65 miles from downtown Miami, almost 155 miles from the storms. The last bad storm we had was Hurricane Wilma, not the Flintsones Wilma! What I hate about the hurricanes is waiting for power to be restored afterward as it can take from five days to three weeks to get electric back on and maybe a week longer for telephone, also cell phones die because of NO power to the towers, also NO gasoline to be sold as no power to pump it.

I was in Homestead FL when Hurricane Andrew hit, I rode the storm out because of extremely late evacuation orders, so most other hurricanes do not measure up to Andrew in strength!

Frank53 might have been closer to the current storms than me, he lives near Fort Myers FL.

In all honesty, have to agree with you, Frank. The 726 is much nicer. I like the 726's tender as well. Yours is a beauty. Love those nickle Baldwin drivers! Pill smoker or liquid?

genuine Lionel Smoke pellets - still have four bottles ffrom the 50's. I admit they are more powder than pills now, but I pour in a little of the magic foo-foo dust and they smoke beautifully. Not a storm cloud like the new stuff, but a nice elegant smoke ring - first time, every time.

Top of the mornin' to Y'all!

Chief, glad things are better with your mom.  Hard to know, even when I talk with my parents, they seem to not tell the full story-don't want anyone to worry is the excuse.  Kim is getting into the spirit of the layout and wanting it to be done soon.  Now I have She WHo Must Be Obeyed on my side, I can get some stuff done.

I will be sending Elliot a message.  I plan on watching one of his DVD's tonight.  Hate it for him, but we serve a God who is able...  Anyway, hope y'all have a great day.

It can probably be cleaned......baking soda and water mixture with an old toothbrush on the contacts. Rinse and dry everything completely. If that doesn't sound like something you want to do I'd be happy to pay the shipping. If I couldn't clean it I could still salvage most or all of the parts.

Hello all,

Chief great about your mom, I bet your blood pressure went up a few notches!  Thanks too for the Elliot's email, I sent a quick note.

Jim F -  you know, maybe I've been lucky, but in almost 200 ebay transactions I've not been burned.  I like to think the world has more good than evil, and the percentage of good is even higher for toy train folks!

Big-Boy, hang in there!  Moved to the top 10 in my prayer list!!!

Beautiful outside, clear cold (10) and a winter wonderland!  The birds at the feeder going like crazy.  My golden retriever is 13 and still loves playing in the snow, looked out last night and was curled up outside her doghouse.

Ran trains for a bit last night and dusted and cleaned some cars on the shelf.  Low key relaxing brainless activity after fininshing all my homework for class this weekend!  Well, I'll still study a little.

Stay warm and healthy and keep your eyes on the Light

Sorry guys I'm still a bit stunned and numbed by the news about Elliot.  I'll be praying for him don't doubt.  My mother-in-law, who I only knew for a little over a year, passed away last October.  My wife and I wed in June and in September my mother-in-law was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer, was given 6 months to a year.  On October 12 she suffered a stroke and the passed away on October 21.  My friend's father-in-law was diagnosed with Brain Cancer in July of last year and died the same day as my mother-in-law.  I've known far too many people who have been striken with cancer and it makes my heart ache every time I hear of another case.

My wife was the lead scientist on the NIH's Cancer Research project when they discovered the method used to administer Lycopene.  One incredibly small step in the continuing struggle to erradicate this disease.

Elliot, you have my deepest and most sincere prays for a complete and healthy recovery.

Hearing about these cases makes me realize how inconsequential my daily struggles are in comparison.

Checking in at lunch time. Got another long afternoon ahead of me.

Boy, Frank's Berk is nice. Someday . . .

Meatballs for lunch today with peaches for dessert. I'm hucking back all the weight I lost when I had pneumonia. Not a good thing. So I think I'll head out for a walk and burn off some of those meatball calories. A few laps around the building sounds good.

Have a great afternoon, all.

Miss a day and everything changes....

I only had the fortune to communicate with Elliott a couple of times.  Sure miss his photos and reports on the helix he was building.  I will send him an email, just to let him know how many lives he has touched, and hoping for a recovery.

Great news about the Chiefs MOM, those are really tough issues to deal with.  And hope everything continues on the road to health.

Other comments;

John, those are great pictures of the Blue Comet, one of my favorite sets!  How are the sounds?  I can remember the exhileration and excitment when I got the Lionel version in the 80's and how much fun it was.  It is one set I have considered upgrading to TMCC.

Yesterday was a significant day here.  We finally got OUR El Camino back.  It really looks good,  and with the exhaust system it sounds pretty good as well.  Practically a new car, the original engine had 223k on it when I changed it to a 350, and had a new tranny put in.  Now all that need to do is get the interior redone, and some wheels.  Below is the picuture of when we picked it up yesterday from El Camino Mike.

Now the big thing will be keeping it!  I think I'm going to check into LoJack.

Today going to work on preparing the Exercise Room for painting.  Lots of sanding and patching.  This room use to be the train room, and the walls were covered with shelves for trains.  So will be like patching swiss cheese.  All the projects going on here, but with everyone I'm making progress on our train room.  Slow but sure.  Not ready to post pictures yet, maybe in a couple of weeks.

Went to club last night, major news was that the Park Planning Commission which MAY eliminate our club as a result of political correctness regarding some old indian sites.  Has approved of a major Development Board.  Unfortunately, they don't have any money and little chance of getting enough for the Research Firm.  So the whole thing may just evaporate.  GREAT NEWS

sorry to hear that. My Mom had it almsot 30 years ago - pancreatic is still the worst. She had some trouble keeping her food down around Thanksgiving of 1978, but wasn't diagnosed with it until February. She never saw Easter - lasted about six weeks. She was so young - only 56.

Glad to hear Chief's mom is ok.

No snow in Stockport, damned cold though.

Spent the day unpacking Lionel and reducing the packaging to a manageable size for disposal. Start looking for power supplies when the weather picks up. Toy Train

Chief, Sent Big Boy (Elliott) an e-mail, I've got #4005 in N and HO on display in my lounge. Glad to hear your good news though.
