Question 1. Are Lionel and MTH compatible?
Yep, they sure are!
BTW I didn't think the surname Baker was English, my ancestors changed our name to Baker from Backer due to discrimantaion against the Germans in northern Wisconsin when they immigrated. (So the story goes)
Doug - Sorry about the post re: weather, I was posting at the same time

Don,

John Baker, Congratulations on receipt of your new train set, home you enjoy it. (Please don't start a Lionel and MTH controversy in GB.)
Takin the day off work today, going to remove wall paper from the "old" train room. Going to make that room into a exercise room. Not looking forward to the wall paper job. Decided I want to decorate the lower portion of the ledger board under the elevated tracks with train heralds. So am downloading a collection of the logos. I think it will look good.
Hope the cold weather abates soon, it is setting heat records here. Up to the high 70's to mid 80's. Suppose to have a chance of rain tomorrow.
Have a great day !
Whew! Warm here in Chicago this morning - just 11 below with the breeze. Everybody's back at work and school...I have my late night tonight with class - hope the car starts at 11 pm after 17 hours in the lot. Nobody from San Diego better post their local weather...Ran the trolleys last night - got three moving 'automatically' - without my having to jockey the throttle - that left only two to coordinate -- which I can barely do without allowing one to go too fast and derail on a curve - I realized I hadn't run through the many station stops on the Johnstown trolleys in a long time.
I also realized something. My layout is something like 29 by 11 ft and not too 'full' of stuff - I realized how much I like to run these very small units in a large space - where they are part of the 'scene' rather than the main focus of the scene. Must be left-over from my N scale days. What do you think of that? Do you rather highlight the trains or their place in their surroundings?
I'll try you again a bit later, Jim.Congratulations on your new set, Jim Baker!

Why is the Chief shooting at his trains? Is it too cold to go outside and shoot the varmit de jour?
I think someone snuck a CSX engine in on his layout & that's probably why he was shooting at his trains !!
Thanks, John

It's here in Manchester and I've only had to pay 29qiud (57bucks) duty to get it delivered tomorrow to my home. The price of my first Lionel train set will be approx double Grzyboskis, but who cares. And there are base boards, electrics etc. to get, will be a busy spring for this Yorkshire Pudding.
I feel that at long last I am really at home on this forum. stand by for some brain picking guys.

Here in Paradise, it's a balmy 32. Have had a few space heater related fires on the local front.
Should be another busy day in the AutoWorld. Trying to save a few bucks for the end of the month show here in Jax. We have an Railroadiana show and sale, 24th of Feb. Went last year & found some good stuff.
Have a good day y,all! Stay warm & SAFE!

I just got an e-mail from Dr. Tinker. My 2056 is all fixed and ready to come home. I'll pick it up tomorrow and drop off a problematic 2055 that slows way down after a short run time. Although Iam starting to feel confident about working on these trains, I have no diagnostic skills. I watched Jim Barrett replace a post war pill-type smoke element with a fluid heater, and thought - I could do that!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a really cold -10 degrees. Going up to only 16 today. Maybe a few snow flurries later today. The sun is shining.
Today, I will go to the local store to pick up a few things we need. Then, I plan on working on the layout for a few hours. I am taking my time and watching the details. The bridge installation is looking good, so far. And watching the Weather Channel ( my favorite channel ).
The Dining Car just arrived from " points west " Seems we are all out of bran muffins this morning. Hmmmm....... I like Blueberry muffins. So, it is time for breakfast. Be back later.
Y'all have a great Tuesday.
Chuck
I thought I was going to freeze in place while walking from the car to the building this morning! Yesterday it was 85 degrees in here and 5 degrees outside! I don't know why they have to have such a wide variance in temperatures! In the summer it feels like they pipe the outside air in!Any how... no movement on the home front...My wife and I got a kick out of everyone's ideas... John, my wife told me 'DO NOT get any ideas. We will NOT have trains in the kitchen.' I turned to her and said, 'Why? You're never in there to do anything other than wash dishes.' I actually do most of the cooking since I get home 1.5 hours before she does. Depending on where we move that may change, but I doubt it. And no the island can't be used for trains... I need the space when I'm making Chicken Courbon Bleu, Rolladen, Country Fried Steak, Veal or Pork Piccata, Chicken Marsala or anything else requiring a mallet to flatten the meat. Which reminds me, one of the items my wife put on our wedding registry was a meat tenderizer... this thing weights at least 5 lbs! She was using it to flatten cube steaks a few months ago and was really pounding away... I asked why she was hitting the meat so hard, 'I'm taking all my frustrations out on the meat. You want to be next?' I told her to have fun...
Good morning all,
It is cloudy and cold (what else is new) in SE Indiana with temps in the teens today. Chief is sending 6-8 inches of grits tonight and tomorrow to try and slow us Hoosiers down. May have to take a personal day if it gets too thick. School is scheduled for a half day only so I may have Lucas on the business end of a snow shovel as well. I went to the YMCA and CVS last night. I did some more building with my bricks and had to run Lucas to and from work. It was a busy evening. Watched some of the Colts' celebration. I sort of cleaned the dining car out of bran muffins. I hope "Points East" has a good chef so they can fix some more goodies. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
HI GIZ,
Only 4 here not too bad. To get to 17,WOO HOO!
Going to put down more Lizard litter tonite about an hours worth.
Stay warm.
Good morning from frigid New England!
Last night we ran trains briefly, then watched Jim Barrett in the Backshop videos until the kids conked out. Those videos are addictive! I also worked on some tunnel portals.
Yesterday I also played telephone tag with Doug M. We'll hook up eventually!
Well, I'm getting hungry. Time for breakfast. Have a great day, all.
That island in the kitchen? Would that have clear sides and top, about 4'x8' ,with maybe a snack train, consisting of 5-8 dump cars to dispense your favorite snacks? Just a thought, in case you were tight on space, or needed a negotiation tool for that grand foyer.

KEITH,

Wake him up!!!
Evening to all. Plenty cold here in G'burg, Currently 9 with a wind chill of -5. No word yet on our school system having a delay tomorrow, although some are already announcing this evening.
Not much train related activity as the train room is in the unheated garage. If I tried to run a train, I think I might wind up like Ralphie in The Christmas Story, with my hand stuck to the bare metal of one of the locos.
Our son is in Charleston WV this week at the West Virginia Legislature shadowing a state senator. He is in hog heaven down there with all of the politicos. He just can't get enough of that stuff.
Take care,

1) wife said she wanted a BIG kitchen and he said why are you going to learn to cook.
Boy does that sound like suicide. Even if it was true, somethings just shouldn't be said.
On the School front, when I grew up, the only time they cancelled school was when more than 50% of the teachers were unable to make it in. We did not have buses, we walked.
Hey Chief, watching a great show on the new Barrett 416 sniper weapon system. Guy makes cold barrel shot at 2500 meters I think I may have to get one.....Just kidding.
Have a great night y'all.

Hi GIZ,
Real cold here at 5 above, hope for a delay tomorrow?
Just got done putting more of the Lizard Litter down. I'm cutting out construction paper double thick then thumb tacking it on the homesote. Then applying the glue then the litter then the glue water solution. Working great but time consuming. I'm putting down construction paper incase I ever want to change things.
Stay warm?
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
John Thanks for the bridge link! Pretty nice prices for metal bridges.
