SNOHIO ?? How is the weather out that way?

I have to drive to Steubenville, OH on Thursday and stay to Saturday. I wondered how bad it is west of Pittsburgh and into the Great State of Ohio? Are there any "must see's" in the area?

Best Regards, Ken

FOUR BELLS...... Yeah Right Black Eye [B)]  You've got to be kiddin'   Never happen here!!!

Got the wall paper down, came down pretty good.  Took all day, but... whatever.  Hopefully will get the room painted this weekend !! Confused [%-)]  (York honey do)

Got a compilation of 178 various heralds for decoration purposes, so far look good.  Probably be a week or so before actually start putting any up.

Also, got a call going to pick up the El Camino tomorrow.  Has new paint job, and a couple of other little tricks.  Took over to "El Caminmo Mike" on Jan. 1, so looking forward to see it.

Also, purchased some "micro trashcans and newspaper" racks through the bay.  Here I thought they were prestamped, painted, assembled.  WRONG !  Flat pieces need to break appart assemble, glue, paint etc..  Would be a nice winter project but WE DONT HAVE WINTER.  So guess I'll sit out on the patio and do them some evening.  (We might get some rain toward the weekend, hopeso.)

Also got a operating neon light facisimile, for the Standard Plumbing, it works on 3 AAA bateries or can power it.  Actually looks pretty cool.

Wife started a class today in Adobe Elements, so this will be fun!!!

 Got to run,  later.

If I started ringing a bell for service, my wife would ring mine for me!  Then, Dennis would have to go in to work extra in order to remove a bell from my chest from an intrarectal insertion!!!  Doug M = heard there are broken water mains all over Chi-town, but sounds like you are okay?  Got up to about 40 here in St. Louis.  Did the God and Family badge for cubbies tonight - pretty interesting program.

Dougdagrump, did you ever get that 19th C MTH 4-6-0 set?  How does it run?  I preordered the Halloween Handcar, Spooky Smoke car, Formaldahyde tanker, Lionel Line 0-6-0, PWC Derrick Car, Halloween Aquarium Car and Pirate Aquarium Car.  I'm thinking about that Lincoln Log set, but it looks like it's the cheap plastic trucks and I'm not sure I really want it if I'd have to replace all the trucks just to be happy with it.  I'll wait until I can see one in real life I guess.  Still want to get that MTH 4-6-0 V&T set from about 18 months ago....  Have to save up some allowance I guess.

Anybody hear about that astro-nut???  Seems she was going to have a "word" with her rival.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening,

If anyone is wondering why so many posts by me in a row, the answer is:  My memory is terrible and I just answer with a quote when I see a post that I want to reply to.  If I wait until I have read them all, I can't remember what was said by others.

I did stop at a LHS today and pick up an MTH Blue Comet set.  With my permission the shop owner had set it up on the shop layout on Saturday and said it got a lot of positive comments.  I will take some pictures but right now another problem has come up.  One of my Atlas switches has started giving me problems.  I have an intermitent connection between the center rail on the point side where it connects to the Y shaped brass casting.  This is one of the problems that others have complained about but I have never before experienced.  I am going to lift the three switches which are at the back of the layout and redo these connections on all of them.  Fun job as I have to climb up on the layout to do that.  Wonder if John's 4 bell signal would get me a cup of coffee and a sandwich while I am up on the layout? Whistling [:-^]

Well, all stay warm, or cool, whatever the case may be.

John Baker, Congratulations on receipt of your new train set, home you enjoy it.  (Please don't start a Lionel and MTH controversy in GB.)

Takin the day off work today, going to remove wall paper from the "old" train room.  Going to make that room into a exercise room.  Not looking forward to the wall paper job.  Decided I want to decorate the lower portion of the ledger board under the elevated tracks with train heralds.  So am downloading a collection of the logos.  I think it will look good.

Hope the cold weather abates soon, it is setting heat records here.  Up to the high 70's to mid 80's.  Suppose to have a chance of rain tomorrow.

Have a great day !

Don, Send some of that weather East.  Also we could use some rain, but not snow.  It has been so cold that it can't even snow.  Short about an inch of precip for the year so far.

Update on the TCA volunteer work.  Went in this morning and after a while noticed it was getting cooler.  They discovered the heat wasn't working and after investigation discovered the reason was that the fuel oil tank was empty.  Supposed to be automatic delivery.  I guess the extra cold weather fouled up the suppliers calcualtions.  No delivery or service man(needed to restart the burner when burned dry) by Noon so they sent us home.

Ran the trolleys last night - got three moving 'automatically' - without my having to jockey the throttle - that left only two to coordinate -- which I can barely do without allowing one to go too fast and derail on a curve - I realized I hadn't run through the many station stops on the Johnstown trolleys in a long time.

I also realized something. My layout is something like 29 by 11 ft and not too 'full' of stuff - I realized how much I like to run these very small units in a large space - where they are part of the 'scene' rather than the main focus of the scene. Must be left-over from my N scale days. What do you think of that? Do you rather highlight the trains or their place in their surroundings?

Doug, I am just the opposite.  I like long trains, just now I have a 16 car freight + caboose pulled by two GP9s and a Blue Comet passenger train on the main.  Usually run one TMCC and one DCS so I can run with a remote in each hand.  Even then sometimes I get confused and lose track of what I am doing, lots of fun. Smile [:)]  Needless to say the trains dominate my layout.

Don, My family is from all over Europe/UK. Baker is Bakker E.Erope->Scotland->Lancashire. Other members from Ireland, Germany, Austria/Hungary. The only true English in my mind (tongue in cheek) are the Welsh, because when the Romans came over in 49BC they chased all the Ancient Brits Westwards, the ones who could swim went to Ireland, the ones who could run finished up in Scotland and the useless blighters who could do neither got stuck in Wales.

Severe frost forecast for Stockport tonight, it may get as low as -4C/26F. Tongue

So do you have 2 bells or one that both of you use, Doug? I like it!

Last night (afternoon) the kids and I watched an interesting show about urban railroads on History International. Great old color films of LA's, New York's, and San Francisco's old trolley, subways, and commuter rail service. It was an episode of "Voyages".

I hear you, Jim. I was just curious whether it mattered to anyone else. It was always a big deal in N scale.

Don, I was just kidding. Am jealous of all things San Diegan - especially your trolleys.

Well, I braved the cold (and now it is snowing) to go out to the Staples at the other end of the Loop and pick up the 'call bell' I ordered - you know one of those hotel reception desk bells that you can bang on... They make perfect trolley bells -especially for my young helpmates -- so now my sound-challenged trolleys can ring out all sorts of bell signals. Ding Ding!!

Doug,
I think the surroundings and the trains should be equally emphasized. I don't think one should dominate the other. But preferrence is a very subjective thing, and I'm in no way saying that anyone who thinks differently is wrong.

Below 0 during the night and a sunny 10 now.  Buckeye, I've seen the rolling snowballs a few times here, really neat, like a cold white sagebrush rolling along.

Maybe Chief is sighting in his missle using tracer fire!

I dissambled the 752 coaler and took lots of pics to remind me on how to reassemble it.  I'm going to beadblast the structure and repaint.

Housing is very affordable in southern Ohio, but as you say the commute is a killer.  100 K would get you a VERY nice home.

Well need to do more studying, later
