Could even be the engine is missing on acceleration and not in cruising. This even could be the transmission. Good luck.Chuck

My point is the car is doing the exact same thing with the new drive shaft that it was doing with old one, so it wasn't the drive shaft and I dished out $1,000.00 for that 'repair'. I was thinking about the timing. BMW recommends high octane gas in the car, and I've been running 87, so maybe I should put a tank of high-test through it... also 110,000 miles and still running on original plugs... maybe I should go ahead and replace them as well...When I gun the engine in park or neutral the car just purrs like a finely tuned kitty cat, so I don't think it is the engine, but could be since it isn't under stress. I'm leaning toward AWD or tranny... both repairs I hate to think about...Lee - Kurt was responding to my rant. It's a BMW and not a Ford... if were a Ford I would just shoot the poor soul and leave it along side the road where it belongs! I really want to get this solved because I don't want to trade it in... would like to get 2 or 3 more years out of it...
Good morning everyone,
Ford= Found on road dead
Ford= Fixed or repaired daily
Ford= Ford's only roll downhill
It's been a rainy week here. No sunshine here at all. My parents ae looking at new houses, and I went with my mom to look yesterday, and they are nice. I ws amazed by how nice they look.
Well off to hang out with friends.
Brent....At an idle, there is no load on the engine. It will appear smooth. Under a load, the spark advance will kick in. This may be the problem. Or an old spark plug could be fouling out under a load. The octane of your gas could cause a bad knock. If it should run on higher octane, then your valves will suffer. You say it is an AWD ?? Chances are, it is not your transmission or transfer case to the front wheels. This would have a tendency to vibrate all the time. Same with the differentials. It really sounds like a power problem.

Off to the doctor's for my annual physical. That's always fun. At least he's a Three Stooges fan.
Last night I put the final touches on another refinished table and one of my train room stools. I spray painted the stool's legs with Krylon black. The stained the seat with Minwax. Coated all with Minwax Polycryllic. Looks great. One done, 3 to go. Spray painting the stool only took all of 5 minutes!
Chief, are you going to eat that beaver after you shoot it? Enquiring minds want to know!

Good Afternoon -
Finally got the soundboard on. Chief you didn't say how "itchy" that stuff is. Took 4 sheets, then had a 3 foot square section, and bought another sheet to finish it up. So next step is to put a covering on. I'm going to cheat and use indoor/outdoor carpeting. I want to get back to operating and this is the fastest way. Anyway, I will try my hand at landscaping it in the future a section at a time.
I had purchased a pair of AC4000's last December. Power unit and dummy. (Avatar). The light kit is optional for the dummy. The engines arrived in May but no sound kit. Been talking to the supplier since then, every couple of weeks different story; not available - came in, have to sort out, all mixed up - will take care of it immediately - in the mail - don't have any not available yet. Finally checked on the MTH website, hmmmm they are available and according to the find it at a number of stores. So finally found it! Will be ordereing it from PA.
EVERYTHING is in PA !!
Speaking of which, would go to York, but OUR anniversary. So can't do that, (York). Maybe in 2008 or 2009.
Well back to work, hope all have a great day.

Good choice, Don. I can just see the conversation, 'Honey, we're going to celebrate our anniversary this year with an exotic vacation to York, Pennsylvania.'Cleared up: sunny, hazy and humid now. Just got back from going over to the Art Institute for a noon lecture on arms and armor - they have a neat collection. This sounds so cultural.
Speaking of Fords, we had an old Escort that seemed to have an undiagnosed electrical problem as a 'class'. We got to counting how many Escorts we'd see driving around with blown headlights and taillights. Can't tell you how many I replaced.

I was still getting over beats the Hoo-Ha when I read about Chief's exploits by the pond...
jaabat - I wasn't treadin' there ...but since you did... BTW, ever hear of the Canadian Pacific Railway...?
Brent,
I would suggest getting rid of the car if it acts up again trade it in for a Honda or Toyota and you will be much happier and you won't see your mechanic except at oil changes.

I have really loved the car since I got it, this is just driving me nuts. Supposed to take it to the mechanic tomorrow to see if he can finally figure this out. Will speak with him then about the drive shaft and a refund, I'm not paying for something that wasn't broken...
When all else fails do what the Country & Western singer said happened to his pickup truck, set it on fire & roll it down a hill! Think the song is titled Pickup Man.
Sorry but I couldn't resist that line.
Harry Potter was pretty good! We got to see a glimpse of the Hogwarts Express at a tiny station near the school and I think we saw the engineer for a split second?
88 - good luck on the car. My Chevy Colorado has a brake light that people tell me is out, but when I go to replace it all the lights are working?
I keep getting emails from TRAINZ, those DEVILS! They know I just spent all my TRAIN MONEY for like the next 3 months! ARRRGHGHGH!

Laz, Let me know what is new. I probably will not get there this week.
To Pam & Lisa.

Well about 10 minutes ago got a call from a resort in Gatlinburg where I put in for maintanece they want to interview me tomorrow.
If all goes well that would be great would have to drive about 40 - 45 minutes every day to work but that would be fine.

Lee, sorry to hear of your job woes and good luck on the new job search.
Brent, That is the price you pay for driving a BMW, parts are out of this world, cost wise. Have a friend who is a BMW fanatic, belongs to their owners club & goes to the plant every year. He also buys and restores older ones. Does a lot of shopping around for parts.
RT, hope the interview works out for you. BTW, one of my daughters and her family used to live in Severville, just outside of Gatlinburg.
One more thing, got my YORK MEET flyer and sent for my badge. Don't forget to send for yours if you are going. September 15 deadline. Are we going to get together again this fall? I think the Chief should declare a city holiday and join us there. Less than two months away October 18-20 & TCA openhouse on the 17th.

Jim...The brake light filiment is burned out in your bulb. The running light filiment is working. That's why you see the lights on. Have someone hold the brake pedal down as you look at it. You probably already knew this.
RAIN AGAIN! 3rd day in a row. Just showers on and off today. I think thats more annoying than steady rain. Weather Man says it dosn't look like it's leaving anytime soon. They're now saying showers till this weekend.
Gonna start building the Ark this weekend
TWO MORE HOUSES TOTALLY BURNED AND THIRD ONE DAMAGED SO BADLY IT WILL PROBABLY BE DECLARED TOTAL LOSS. SAME SUBDIVISION AS THE LAST TWO THAT BURNED. ALSO AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME. NOW STORMS HITTING. WIND HAWLING LIKE HURRICANE. SKY BLACK. STILL NO RAIN.

Nope, I didn't know that! Thanks for the info, Chuck! Last time I changed a bulb on a vehicle was about 10 years ago, on a Ranger. My wife trades in cars too fast for bulbs to wear out I guess! I'll make my wife help me out when she gets home with the kids - they are at a school open house. I needed some Dad time away from the kids after 5 days of family fun. Got caught up on all my emails (deleted some that would curl your eyelashes and make you want to spit at the same time - YUCK! No, I didn't forward any, they were too gross.)
Good luck to Lee and RT on the job hunts!
Fife - what kind of tower was it you broke, a Dept 56 or something?
Evening folks.
Pretty night here. Cool and clear. The kids are in rare form though. I'm about ready to get out the mallet and bop each one of them on the head!
We ran our new Marx 1666 tonight for a little while. Then we put out the trash, played some ball, and now we are watching some tv.

Chief, Are you sure you don't have some sort of NUT, firebug or environmentalist, starting these fires ? I already know that I am a nut but not of the two prior categories.
Thanks again for all the birthday wishes. Have had a fairly quiet day except while the grandson was here this afternoon for a few hours. We played chinese checkers and watched Nemo - "again".....
Got several gifts - non-train related but did get an Operating freight car with coal, bins and front-end loader and a section of operating/uncoupling track - AND money to buy more stuff (trains for sure!) No train stores close by for family to shop - just as soon have the money.
Chief - We got those storms before they got to you - got a whole 0.25" of rain and a yard full of leaves!!!
Dennis - Thanks for the info on the flat cars.
Lisa
Evening all,
Chief, are we missing something here? Three fires in the same sub. in a short time Seems to go beyond normal. I lived in this sub 27 years and only recall one fire and that was from lightning.
Today was not an adventure day, just goofed off. I did watch the end of the tiger/indians game. seasons not over yet but it could be fun to watch how it goes.oh the tigers won.
I saw a post this morning on that other forum about grit on the track and thought one of those good ole boys had snuck in with grits, turns out it was just dirty track.
Pleasent dreams, Sir james

Good evening,
We got 1.8" of rain since yesterday. It has pretty well wiped out the E-town fair as the parking lot is grass which is now mostly mud. Still operating but not many people except exhibitors. It pretty well wiped me out as well, worked in the church food stand last evening and got cold and wet, today can hardly move. Ah, old age you know. At the Chief's request a few pictures of the grandkids.
14 year old grandson.
12 year old grandson and 8 year old granddaughter.
8 year old again.
Do you think Hana might be a pet? She was bottle fed by granddaughter as she was one of a set of triplets, fairly rare for goats.
OK back to trains. I don't think the Chief read my last post, at least he didn't answer.
Take care,
Thanks Chuck (Blueberry Hill) - that did the trick. I had my son hit the breaks (he loved that) and found the bulb that wasn't right. Took about 5 minutes to replace, then 30 minutes to play some H-O-R-S-E with the basketball.
Working on a layout plan - I think it will be 2 or 3 layouts overlapping - separate trolley/BFOC line, separate mining line, and separate main layout with at least 2 loops so I can run 2 trains at once, plus some industrial spurs for sawmills, coal(someday) and dairy(someday) for Bing Cheeser's Farm.... Totally tubular, of course
Also, want to have a small temp layout for Halloween.
Man - does it sound like I want to play with all my trains again?!
John S, man you sure cleared me out of gooey buttercake! That's a St. Louis delicacy, you know, like pig snout sandwiches or fried brain sandwiches or super thin crust pizza. Except that I like gooey buttercake All that's left is some more weightwatchers strawberry shortcakes. PS - Chewey said thanks for the peanut butter!!! She sure loves her Uncle John!
John F - great pics! Looks like they had a lot of fun!
Kurt - TRAINZ! I still check their stuff pretty much every day though.... One good thing, apparently Hallmark has some new Halloween stuff and my wife is gonna buy it, so I'll get to put some of that on my layout I'll bet!
