Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 55 degrees. Going up to 75 today with sunshine and maybe a late rain shower. Hope not.

Today, I am taking it easy. Have a few chores to do around the house and then relax. Never did get down to the train room, yesterday. I was too busy cutting grass and working in yard.  Garden is in and doing well. We need a few more flowers and that should do it. It's time to start taking pictures again. Nice scenery here.

Dining Car has arrived. Don't think " points west " is up yet. Sleeping in. It is time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Chuck

Jeff, The layout is still in my nut. Trying to get a rough ready for Ilkley, going to need about 40ft of track plus curves and switches.

As I have a tendency to gout, I have to avoid liver-kidney (offal) etc. due to the high purine levels in them. Also applies to coffee.

Zeke - Score!  Man, that is too cool.  Happy Birthday, buddy - didn't remember you posting that, or is this an unbirthday present?  RT - I guess I didn't remember that about your son, very sorry to hear about it.  Sir James - good one!

John Baker, there is a place in Sikeston Missouri called Lamberts, Home of the Throwed Roll, you would really like, except they don't serve adult beverages.  They do bring around huge bowls of macaroni and tomatoes, fried okra, rolls, mashed potatoes, etc, and when they bring the food you ordered it is heaped high and wide.  Beef livers and chicken livers are great there.  I try something different each time.  If you order chicken, one dinner is a half-bird!  No oatcakes.  We try to make a trip down there about once a year or so, just to eat until we are sick.  They have a G gauge train running around an elevated loop and a wooden train the kids climb on outside.

Well, I finished wiring the last 8 outlets and ran romex to the bathroom for the outlet and fan.  There is a hot wire there for a cheap bulb fixture the builder left and I'll use that to power a light over the sink.  Spent about 5 hours working down there today.  While she was out and about, my beloved found a yard sale in our subdivision and the guy was selling a 5 hp snowblower for $175, but she got it for $125.  It's new, only used twice last year because his driveway is so steep that he kept sliding down while trying to run it.  I won't have that problem!  Need to figure out where to put a ceiling light in the hallway and then put up lights in the bedroom and I'm done and ready for insulation and drywall.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Evening Y'all!

I ended up working at the church last night as they needed a camera guy for the Christian School graduation.  Not bad, but it was a long time standing still in one spot and making sure I didn't shake the camera.  That was on top of working all day, which started at 4am.  I finally crawled into bed about 10.

Had a great day in that woke to the bride making sausage gravy and biscuits.  Then we relaxed with the kids.  Went to the mall to pick out a gift for the neighbor's daughter's graduation party (this is the neighbor who owns GSW RR).  It was a nice day, great weather and then the party tonight was wonderful.

John Bakeer: do you know of a Rugby player by the name of Dave Timms.  He used to play a while ago, but has retired.  He was a missionary in Africa (which is in sharp contrast to his days in the SAS).  He is currently in seminary here in the US and his son, who is now a senior has the highest sacks in the state of Texas.  Anyway, he is a friend of ours.  Very humble, but has quite a story to his past.

Also got to talk to the Chief tonight.  He's a good man, no matter what the Yanks might say.

ZEKE, did that deal I email you about come through.  I think we have some of the best people you will ever meet on this forum.  Not getting into details, but the folks here have a lot of concern for others, and love their country and the soldiers who keep us free and safe.

Been jugging the garden.  Now I need to explain to the Yankees.  since it is not raining much, I take a gallon [several] milk jug [empty for the Yanks] and punch a tiny hole in one corner, put in Mircale Grow, fill with water, put cap on, turn upside down and carry to a plant, turn it over, remove cap and water goes out next to the stalk.  Depending on the size of the hole, takes about 45 minutes to run out.  Object is that it soaks in next to plant.  Watch them turn green and grow.  Got three going.  One beside tomato plants, one by squash and the other by cucumbers.

About train time.

Nice trick Chief, Have you tried sheep $#!+ tea??(note  for the garden not yourself) I used rabbit droppings when I had 3 rabbits. You run water thru rabbit dropings to get a natural liquid fertalizer.

I have not had fresh okra in a log time, I used to put them(slices) into stir fry or sometimes deep fried themDinner [dinner]

Good evening guys,

Dewey, Thanks for responding, I thought you might be selling the mountain retreat.  I do understand the maintenance problem, I'm 68, not far behind you.

John, Normally I would have my flag flying today, but on Wednesday, while I was away from home we had a big blow come up along with rain.  Apparently the water soaked flag was to much for my aluminum flag pole and it snaped off about 4 feet above the ground.  Have a new one on order, but for now I am flagless.

John Baker, How is that layout design coming along?

Wife took me out for dinner tonight, she found a gift card from Christmas in her wallet so she treated me. Smile [:)]

Take care,

A little reminder to those in the Fort Worth, TX area.  Next weekend, May 27, y'all have a train show at the Will Rogers Memorial Center.  Boss heads down there Thurs. and I get to stay and watch the store through Mon..

Last night temps. dipped into the the 40's with today's temp. barely getting into the mid 70's.  Supposed to be another cool night tonight.  Where's the hot weather we should be having by now?  The granddaughters are chomping at the bit to get more use out of the pool, they've spent some time in it last weekend with water at 75, at least I got it to 80 this weekend with a "cheaper" set of solar heaters.

Good afternoon all,

It is another beautiful, sunny day in SE Indiana with temps in the 70s.  Mowed the yard last night and watched "Numb3rs".  I swept the house this morning and went to get some parts for the trimmer and mower.  Now I am watching time trials for the Indy 500 online while I am posting.  Lucas and Brittany are at King's Island today with a church group.  My wife and I will go see "Spiderman" tonight.  Bacon and biscuits were on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

This has been quite a year for me so far.  My son is going to start law school this fall and we are dealing with all the application, finance, housing and move in issues associated with that.  I completed eight buildings for my layout, am nearing completion of my Carstens reefer project, and today I am picking up my new Tahoe.  That's all good and well.  But last Monday I must have hit a solunar event while fishing.  I hooked 45 fish!  15 small mouth bass, the rest a mix of walleye and white bass.  That's the best I have done over in KS.  The weather is great here.  Going to Table Rock in the Ozarks next weekend.  I hope all of you are having good luck in all respects this year.  Smile [:)]

Hey guys with today being armed forces day I ask you all to look at this site and see if you can help either with letters to our troops or some how heres the story that got me going on it

Operation Bedding came to be after a Sunday morning phone call from our son Adam. At the time he was serving in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He asked if I could send him bed sheets, he requested forty sets. He explained that the weather was so hot, and with little free time clean sheets would be nice. He was concerned that his friends have the same comforts that he had and that's why he needed forty sets. He jokingly said get Operation Bedding going mom. That Friday he was killed.

Without realizing it Adam had just set up his own memorial fund. For the funeral services we requested money instead of flowers so we could send a shipment of supplies to Adam's friends still serving. The outpouring of love and support was overwhelming. So many expressed their gratitude and were eager to help.

Since that time with the support and generosity of others we have been able to send thousands of dollars in supplies and goodies. It is our way to express our gratitude to those so willing to lay down their life for our freedom. Please join our effort!

Ha!  Chief, saying Chewy likes grits doesn't serve your case very well, considering everything else she likes to eat or "sample"!  Wink [;)]  Glad you liked it Chuck!  Love reading your posts every day and keeping up with you and the guys.  Good fellowship on this forum!

Well, it appears the Dining Car whizzed by here at speed, but not before some guy threw a packet of poptarts at my head!  They were a little old - in the box too long.  Need to pick up some PW 022's for my O gauge track and get working on my new layout design.  I've got some ideas already.  Probably an outer loop or loops of O gauge tubular and some inner point to point working track of O27.  Maybe an elevated loop of O27 as well?  Have to figure that out.

PS - I filled up the truck last night for $2.95 a gallon unleaded!  Shock [:O]  Funny how happy that made me, when in fact I was getting Censored [censored]-ed!

Doug Murphy, I am glad I did a pretty good job -- I found the "standardized" outline for notes online, but it is a little different from the ones I'm used to reading, which threw me off a little.

PS: Chief, Dunkin Donuts are the best!  They all closed around here, but when we are traveling, if we see a DD shop, we have to stop!  Those big, gooey glazed donuts beat Krispy Kremes in my book.  My Mother-in-law used to buy extras and the next day she would literally fry them in a skillet full of melted butter, just to warm them through - now that is an artery-buster!

Dewey, sorry to hear about the demise of your kitchen layout.  Hope you can make a rollaway replacement or something to keep those trains running.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good morning from a sunny and pleasant Crystal Lake where I am still laughing over Jim F's post. I read things like that all the time too. Gotta vacumn the house and prepare for guests later - they're all bringing stuff so the bride can relax a bit - except to clean... The bride and I went out last even - I had chicken wings and cheesy fries last night with a gigantic Budweiser. It was a wonderful meal. Then we went to Borders where I got to look at the train magazines I can't afford - there was only one train-related book in the entire transportation section - something about Pullmans. Got to check in with my classes - in addition to the Tues night lab, I have three (!) other online ones starting up.

Nice tender, Jim A. I mean that in the most respectful way...

Morning.  Site was flying and then got stuck on Quote and had to double click and it laoded right up.  Off this Miss Edna's.  Cooked home made sausage and biscuits [canned].  Coffee is great.  Switched from Starbucks to Dunkin Dounuts brand.  Real good.  I get whole beans and grind it fresh.

Now as for the following:

Wink [;)]  She wanted you to know the big mistake you made.  Speaking of offending folks.  Seems this forum loves jokes and kidding [makes things go better].  If I got offended, I'd have to go "Postal" on most of Ohizo, one or two in PA and a big one in Maryland [as well as a few others].  ITS FUN. Big Smile [:D]  Another forum fired up on Brother Jim on a subject.  Told him to quit posting over there.  Some nice folks there but then some [mostly Yankees Wink [;)]] .....

Have a good day.

Several days ago you asked why I was taking my 13x28 5-track, twin shelf RR down?

First, it is up high in my wife's kitchen and she wants to redecorate after 15 years . Also we are in our 70s and will likely sell this mountain place within 5 years or so and she correctly notes that from a marketing standpoint she doesn't know anyone else with a railway in their kitchen.

Secondly, my knees and Mr. "Arthur Ritis" are no longer supportive in operating and, in particular, maintaining a "stepladder" RR. One shelf is 9'-0" high the other 7'-6". I made the last run on tracks #1 [30 car coal hopper train] and 2 [8 car N&W pass train], both on the lower shelf, on Wednesday and have removed all the track, homasote, foam and cork roadbed, messyBanged Head [banghead]--I had glued it in layers---fortunately the top shelf roadbed is not glued.

Gonna make the last run on three tracks up top todaySad [:(], a Southern work train w/Consolidation, and two Southern passenger trains, one E-6 diesel powered and one Ps-4 steam. As soon as my sore feet and knees feel better I will be up on the ladders and doing the dastardly deed.

37 degrees here @ 3,500' last night and with binoculars I could see heavy frost down in the Elk River valley.

Good Morning Everyone !!  Looks like a nice day here today !  Today is Armed Forces Day, so I'm heading outside to run the flag up the pole !! Usually I forget to put the flag up on a lot of special days.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend !!

Thanks, John
