Hi all, haven't posted much lately - it's been a busy time for us. Warm and hazy this am. We're getting a good bit of the smoke from the Georgia fires over this way. Sure could use rain!

My wife's cardiologist says she may need a defibrilator implanted. She's been diagnosed with Brugata Syndrome. Her heart muscle and blood flow are fine, but there's a potential for a dangerous or even fatal arrythmia with this syndrome. We're trying to see a cardiologist at UAB for a second opinion. The good news is that the defibrilator should take care of the problem. Odd thing is she has never shown symptoms (tacchycardia or fainting) but the EKG is a textbook example. If the doc in Birmingham concurs, she'll have the procedure up there - usually just an overnight stay and quick recovery. The funny thing (to us, anyway) are the restrictions after the procedure: can't use a chainsaw, arc welder or work on a car engine when it's running (no redneck jokes, please! ). Microwave ovens, etc. are not a problem.

Good morning to all. Beautiful day yesterday and several more expected.Oh boy summer weather feels good. Checked my MTH engines and the ones that still have batt.'s actually  ran.I don't run them often enough and let the batt.'s get to low.I'm sure I smelled popcorn last nite, wonder where it was coming from. Check out OGR there's a proud papa with a new son.

RTC - I've been reading, just been very busy.  Last week of class (98.5% so far) and don't want to blow my 'A', have 3 'A's and 1 'A-' so far!

Saturday was the last 'event' in the old house so we are going like gangbusters to get the house packed up... 23 days... Have had contractor meetings and other personal appointments after work too...

Chief - Me eat grits?  Those are blasphemous words!  Those impurities will never see the insides of this 'pure' body!  NEVER!

I see that Mitch was in my area over the weekend and didn't bother to call...

So now I have a dilemma - we are thinking of building a 2 car garage at the new house.  I could have a second story added and have a 26 x 40 train room... hmmm....

Good morning from beautiful Ohio, where the temperature is currently 64 degrees with a high of 87 predicted.

It looks like the John Deere needs to get a work out today. 

Doug, if you are heading to Hilton Head, go out to the 18th hole of the golf course by the lighthouse and say, "How in the did Buckeye par this hole?"  The island is a great place to ride bikes because all of the trails.   If I remember correctly our daughter and niece went horseback riding when we were there.

Good morning all,

It is another (broken record) beautiful, sunny day in SE Indiana (maybe I should come up with an acronym, such as IIABSDISEI, so I do not have to type so much, but then maybe I just like using parentheses :-) ) with temps reaching into the 80s.  I did weights at the YMCA and then settled for two hours of "Veronica Mars" last night.  The ending was a little flat (kind of going out with a whimper and not a bang), but the episodes were mostly good.  For the few fans who enjoyed the show, it will be missed.  Tonight will be busy with soccer at six and "Lost" at nine.  I see where the dining car rolled into "Points East" already.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 60 degrees. Going up to 88 again, with sunshine all day. This weather is looking like August.

Today, we are driving over to Zanesville. Wife has appointment with foot doctor. Time to get something done on possible broken toe.

Yesterday, I went down to train room and ran all the trains for an hour. Did a little dusting and cleaning up of tools. Have to get ready for company on Saturday.

Yes. Jim,...I agree with you 100 %. Forum people help keep the fun in life alive.

Dining Car has pulled in and is ready for boarding. " Points west " may have enjoyed already. Time for breakfast.

Good morning from New England, where a heat wave is coming for the end of the week!

I spread mulch around last night until I got sick of that. Then got my daughter's loco and tender ready for its pink transformation. Will pick up some paint tonight and start spritzing!

The train room is a stinking mess! I need to go down there and clean it out. Trains and toys all over the place.

One last thought: The one thing that sets this forum apart from all the rest is the friendly live and let live atmosphere. I hope that never changes. We all come here to escape from reality and talk trains with like-minded folks, and no one wants to feel unwelcomed. I hope everyone appreciates this forum as much as I do!

Evening all, looks like I missed the big shut down.  Havn't noticed much change yet.  Jim the Motto's wer great!

Worked on guard rail tonight.  got better than  40% done.  Using some 1/4" bolts, drinking straws and fish line.  Going up pretty well hope it works!

Dennis, yes algie bloom.  County came and took water samples.  Definately getting fertilized and not by me.  County will be testing ecoli count.  If high, definately sewer.  County Soil and Water guy coming earlu tomorrow AM.  will also investigate.  Dwight [buddy] was really upset to see the GREEEN.  He did catch some very nice bass, crappie and bream.  All next to the bank.  They are hungry and feeding hard.  It is like they are in a muddy pond.  May have to start pumping with big irrigation pump and dumping back into the pond through the air.  Will cost me a ton unless it comes up sewer.  Then Raleigh is going to pay [big time].

Got to hit the bed.  Can't sleep late tomorrow as County guy is coming.  

Roseyville Town Board lasted until almost 11PM.  Budget time and then some items.

Nice evening, cool and clear.  Windows wide open and the whole house fan on.  

Received some artisa people from Portlines.  Very nice, but pricey.  Showed my bride the figures of a couple walking along.  I said it was the two of us.  She has been asking about her figure on the layout because I've painted several of the plasticville people to look like friends of ours.  She really liked the figures.  Got some brownie points for this one.

Good news on the job front for our area.  The local N&W shops are going to reopen the gondola repair shop.  Should be about 100 good paying jobs.   

 Ran trains a bit, love the smoke smell.  Going to bed

For the train buffs out there that like to snap some photos of the 1:1 scale, they have a good article in this past weekend's Wall Street Journal.  Section P1 it is on the front page and has a continuation on page 4.  The article is mainly about train watching and gives a few top spots to watch.  One of which is here in South Georgia with about 70 CSX and Amtrak trains a day.  Now if they only had a real railroad like NS.

A great place in Ohio, is the Station Restaurant in Berea. We had a luncheon there for OTTS members after the Berea Train Show, last Fall. There are about 174 trains going thru every day. Several guys got some great pictures. CSX , mostly , and a couple NS.

Cool casting David, glad to see BB is doing well.  NO real news here, just stopped in to say hi.  I think I'm done doing the evaluations, seems like a good way to say the wrong thing and hurt somebody's feelings or something.  Might do mine, just for fun - will post if I do, or you guys can feel free to write me up.  Watching a Tom Selleck movie, pretty good.  I think I read one of these books a couple years ago.  Take it easy!

Dennis, we are actually going to be closer to Savannah than that - in Hilton Head. For all the years we been able to visit there, I have yet to be able to convince a critical mass of the family to head on over.  I was thinking about that stressing the motors too. I'm probably asking for trouble.

Good morning from a sunny and warm Chicago where I am thinking about what I have to do to prepare for taking a week off in June - yes, I am actually going to try to go 'South' through Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina (just the tip), and end up at the very end of South Carolina.

I am experimenting with running two trolleys in tandem if that is the right expression on the same track.  They catch up with each other which I wanted  - I just don't know if I am doing something bad to the motors on the the trolley that ends up pushing the other one a bit. What do you think?

Jim A, I haven't touched the A/C in my small car in quite some time too. Not worth powering up for 10-15 minute-long drives. Yes, the rest of the family think I am crazy.

Doug,  If you are heading to Myrtle Beach, or the very south part of South Carolina, Savannah, GA is not far away and they have a railroad museum there.  It is the Roundhouse RR Museum.  It is not a very big museum, but they do have a few trollies and some steam engines and a GP7.  Also, the Riverwalk is nice to visit.

As to your trolley set up with one pushing the other, I would think that over time, the faster motor would be stressed and could cause some problems.

Chief, wonder if you are having a algae bloom?  This used to be caused by people using soaps with high phosphate levels, that is why it is hard to find TSP with real Phosphate in it.  Hard to deal with and it will cause a fishkill.

Anyway, It is hot down this way and we really could use some rain.  My place is well irrigated by the well, but the fires still rage and the trees are begging the dogs.

Afternoon.  Phone calls all morning.  Wildlife and County folks.  The County water tester has not called.  One County Comm says he will get him on the way if not heard from him by mid afternoon.  Everyone is real concerned that we are going to get a fish kill.  Wildlife says getting exrta something from somewhere due to history of clear water.  Really do hope it is leaking sewer as Raleigh will have to set up pump and aerate.  With the cost of diesel, I will have to get farmer buddy to come with irrigation pump and run for a while.  Would cost me lots and still not know what is feeding it.

Got to go.  Need rain bad.  Everything drying up.  Later.

Karen called me a little while ago.  She told me that we had received a message on our answering machine letting us know that the owner of a hobby shop that I spent a lot of time at several years ago died last night.  We have not had much contact for the last couple of years but at one time we were close friends (well I thought so anyway).  We would stop in the hobby store to say hello whenever we were in the area but he wasn't there the last few visits.  I don't usually post things like this but somehow felt I should this time.

Good morning from KC where we are expecting some rain for the next 2 days.  I am hoping it moves through so we can salvage the weekend as I will be at Table Rock fishing for bass or Lake Taneycomo for trout.  I have been going to Branson for the past 4 or 5 years at this time.  One of the resort Hotels on the lake has a fireworks display on Sunday night.  Many boaters cruise to the bay by the Hotel and set up to watch.  It is quite a scene with all the red, green and white navigation lights.  I have a 16.5 ft aluminum fishing boat with a 50 hp Yamaha on it but it is wide and sturdy.  It runs like a Lionel on TMCC! Have a great day.
