Good evening,

Kevin, nice to hear from the northland.

Sounds like everyone but Brent is having a good weekend.

Was working on the LNE A-B-A TMCC conversion today.  The B is finished, now working on the leading A which started out as a dummy.  Added a power conversion truck to the rear truck and installed an electrocoupler on the front.  Wired up an LED headlight but have not mounted it yet.  Want to build a cab from gray ABS and put in figures.  Think I will light it with a yellow LED and see how it looks.  Also want to use LEDs to light the marker lights.  All this will take a while as I am slow.

Take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Not yet.  Just got back from dinner at the waffle house.  I had waffles and cheese grits.  Chees grits are better, but they still put all this melted butter in there that I don't like - just way too much.  I tried to drain it off, but only a little luck, so I couldn't eat them all.  I was full from the waffles anyway though.

88, what movies did you get?  I just got a load of dvds I bought from deepdiscount for 20 percent off, including Monk Season 4, Tales from the Crypt Season 5, South Park Season 6, Seven Deaths in the Cats Eye, Seven Blood Stained Orchids, The Mario Bava Set Vol 1, Lizard in a Woman's Skin, and Pan's Labyrinth.  I wait for these sales to get the sets I want.

At home by myself tonight! Approve [^]Big Smile [:D]Thumbs Up [tup]Cool [8D]Happy B-Day [bday]  Wife is at some bachelorette party for a friend of her's that shouldn't be getting married... Let's just say for a Catholic she sure doesn't act like it...  Tells her priest she is doing one thing then does the opposite... hasn't told him she is living with her fiance... and now she is pregnant!  Whistling [:-^]  I really don't want to go to the wedding on a moral/religous level, but wife is the Matron of Honor, so I guess I'll put up with it!

Just realized how boring it is when you have everything packed away, no trains to run, and nothing on TV... so I went to Best Buy and picked up some movies for the night... then realized all the Antiguan Rum is packed away too! Sad [:(]

Just me and the cats... and the female just pucked on the dresser... that was just lovely... cleaned it of so the wife didn't see it, and so it doesn't mar the finish... watching Babel right now... strange movie...

Really wish we were in the new house... at least I would have something to do!  LOL!

Laz,

Was wondering what brand of wood planer you would recommend for a home woodshop.  I have been looking at getting one.  My late father had a fairly well equipped woodshop.  There is still quite a lot of rough cut lumber in the shop.  I was given the radial arm saw but the planer is just too large.  Was thinking that a three blade unit would be a better investment but there are a few two blade units that seem adequate for what I want to do.

Buckeye,

Still viewing the world from the bridge?

Geez,  the Cubs scored four runs in the first inning tonight.  Braves managed to score two runs in their half of the first.  Trying to decide whether to go to the Indians-Braves game next Saturday in Cleveland or go to a family function.   About the same distance either way but the family gathering would be less expensive.  Game is tied now.  Update! Braves leading 5 to 4.

Think Karen and I will take advantage of this great weather and go for a walk.

The chief is going to P on Buckeye St, Can he do that? A guy I worked with would tease me about my home town(Toledo) and the beautiful muddy Maumee river. He said he stopped on the bridge and p'd in it. The yellow spot is still there. so i would get even by calling his home town Wilkys berrys (PA).IT went on for years and nobody won. I received my ebay frt. car today, as listed, 1991 still new in box. I'm planning to look in later to see who drop by.

Way to go Doug!  Colin, take the antibiotics and you'll be fine.  I used to get sinus infections every year, but now on Claritin D and Flonase and no infections since.  Buckeye better watch out or Chief will go to the store and cover Buckeye with Grits before he leaves!  Zeke - great deal on teh truck, guess I forgot to post on that.  Hi Kevin, keep watching the northern border.  The Soviets - uh, I meen Putinites might try sneaking some nuke subs through again.

Worked 4 hours OT then to a local Hot dog place for lunch, meeting the wife and kids coming from swim practice with our friend Dave and his kids.  Then he wanted to go to Festus to a comic book store so we followed.  The guy is selling trains too!  He is strictly MSRP but very nice guy and so I bought a couple plasticville kits to show my support.  Got the covered bridge and coal tower.  My daughter was sad, cause he didn't have any cows.  She wants a whole herd now.  They had already put together houses, but at $39 a little pricey for me.  Anyway, I'll try and give him some more business.  He indicated he had a bunch of old 30's - 50's Lionel at home in boxes....  Hmmm, might want to follow up on that if it's not stuff he cares about anymore.  Maybe make a few deals!  Gotta go to dinner in a minute, so TTFN guys.

Whoa, talk about a yard sale !!!!!

The other half did her yard sale trek this morning and didn't find much of anything but decided what the heck I'll make this one last stop. Talk about a great decision ! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  They were disposing of the last of their grandfathers possessions that the rest of the family had no interest in keeping. Whistling [:-^]

For $40, she came home with an LGB starter set, 0-4-0 steamer with two passenger cars, Lake George & Boulder, an LGB Pabst woodside reefer, a Bachmann Christmas gondola and an LGB AT&SF bobber caboose. As well as enuff extra track to make an oval about 5' x 14'. Approve [^]

They told her that they couldn't get it to run, so if she had any problems she could bring it back. Don't know what their problem was but it has been running for about 3 hrs now with no sign of any failures. Blindfold [X-)]  Eventually will need new track connectors but as of now no connectivity issues. Blush [:I]

Boy is it Hot here!  Kevin, open the door, we need some cooling.  Was 98 today.  We ended up going to the Herritage center where they have a very well done HO layout.  Also have a 4-6-2 that they are restoring.  I am not completely up on which steamer this is, no cab yet, but the rest looks to be close to finished.  The tender says Georgia Northern, but I noticed the trucks on it say "erie RR".  They also have a HO club layout in a REA car.

Bride is taking daughter shopping.  Hope they don't stay out long $$$$, also the storms are heading in.  Son and I will go up and work on the layout.

Don, I will try again to post on your question regarding your layout.  Have one idea, but it does look good.

Good Morning from the land of Midnight Sun!

It has been a while since I last posted to the forum but I have had a chance to drop by once in a while and read a few threads (which of course always includes reading a few pages from this special group) as time permits. I noticed Don's post wondering if I was snowed in. I am happy to report that we are snow free!  It is currently 59°f and heading up to 78° this afternoon, clear skies and light breeze (the sun & breeze keep the skeets at bay). Here is the best part to report from Fairbanks– no headlights or flashlights needed, riding my bicycle for daily transportation, traded winter coat for raincoat, and my summer students will be arriving on campus in one week!

June 9, 2007

      Sun Rise

      Sun Set

Actual Time       3:11 AM AKDT       12:30 AM AKDT

Have had no time for O-gauge hobby (will be plenty of time for that next fall) but all is well in the north. Summer is in full swing in the north.

I was riding past the ARR terminal here in Fairbanks yesterday and witnessed the longest ARR passenger hook ever. At least 8 ARR (state) cars, then 4-5 princesses tour passenger cars, then another 6-7 passenger cars from another tour company (can't remember which). All pulled by several SD 70 Macs. The entire outfit was polished and gleaming right down to the rails- not a speck of dirt or dust could be seen. Was a pretty impressive sight eve for this Alaskan and I am sure all the tourista's were loving it as well! I will try to get a few pictures to share or a video of in the next few weeks. The ARR runs right along the edge of the university’s campus on a right-of-way.

Best wishes to all you guys I will keep checking in from time to time.

Best regards!  Kevin T.

Mornin' all, afternoon some,

We survived the first night of solo driving.

Buckeye - if she gets lost and ends up in Ohizo, watch out!

Hot already today. 90 and very humid again. At least the weather stayed pleasant for the duaghter's B-Day pool party last night.

Hope everyone has a nice day!

Morning, all!

Chief - Enjoy your stay in AZ. We spent a week there last summer for vacation. Flew into Phoenix, stayed in Sonoma, visited Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, etc. Beautiful state! And yes, we had no trouble finding grits either! Big Smile [:D]

Zeke - Happy to hear about your truck purchase! Sounds like a great truck for errands and to tinker on. Wife's grandfather had an old '74 Ford F-100 that I tinkered on for him long ago. He passed away about 15 years ago. I had hoped to buy it but it was sold by his local family in estate sale before I had a chance. Oh well.

Finished a few light honey-do's this a.m. May cut grass this evening. Not growing much with the dry weather. We did have a nice shower yesterday evening, maybe an inch and a half of rain. Possibility for more rain today but skies are clear right now.

Enjoy your Saturday, everyone!

Jim, anytime you are traveling in Ohio, just let me know and I bet I have been to a train store the area.  If you are ever in Akron, you must visit Glenn's.  It is just a warehouse full of trains.  Of course, it is very disorganized.

Good morning to the gentlemen and ladies of the forum, you too fifedog. (Chief taught me that trick. )Wink [;)]

Speaking of the Chief, I assume he is still in the flop house in Phonex without internet access, so here goes:

The Chief was driving home from a BPS Grand Opening in northern Ontario when he sees an Indian thumbing for a ride on the side of the road.
As the trip had been long and quiet, he stops the car and the Indian gets in.

After a bit of small talk, the Indian notices a brown bag on the front seat. "What's in bag?", the Indian asks the Chief.

The Chief says, "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my wife."

The Indian is silent for a moment then says, "Good trade."

Chuck, great news the new neighbors are from New Jersey, not Georgia.

Roy,  I believe they have a kid tracker you can put on that car and monitor their whereabouts from your home computer, but then again Texas is so big and filled with a lot of cows, where can she go?

Morning all.  fife, does the chicken wire on your layout keep those chickens off?  You know, the ones running in and out the hole in your front screen door.  Feed them a couple of handsful of dry grits and they will not be scratching around on your layout.

Roy, major pile up on US60 here.  Thought maybe your daughter took a wrong turn and ended up in AZ. Shock [:O]Wink [;)]

Don't know what to make of it!!  Here we have the Chief, an emissary on a sojurn to the Wild West, trying to bamboozle a local guy out of his shirt, and it didn't work.  Reality was probably more like the Chief wanted to trade shirts since selling battery chargers for boats wasn't doing to well in the desert.  He is lucky cause the UP located their could decide to discontinue the NS operations, then he would be sorry.  So stay out of the sun, and be careful while you are there Chief, you never know who may be lurking behind those rocks!

Have a great day all,  going to go and buy some lumber and get to work.
