Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s and a chance of rain later on in the day. The team won another soccer game last night 3-1. We had everybody there so we had lots of subs. I played about half the game, which was fine with me. This was against the team with the second best record so we are in fairly good shape for the rest of the regular season. We need to win two more games to clinch the number one seed for the tourney. I saw the new grandson last night as well. I see where the dining car arrived from "Points East" and it had some streusel on it this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

HI GIZ,
Beauty of a day here at 59 and to get to 80.
Another great day at laz CAMP only ran a 3 miler today. Now for the weights and later GOLF against BRO. Then the all important 19th green, no wonder I run. To make room for more beer.
ZEKE, I hear you on your endevors in the ARMY. Great job. I've been doing it since college football days back in the 70s and now and then do take some time off or get an injury and forced to take off time. But at 50.5 years old I figure maybe this is my fountain of youth? Some days are better then others but thats life.
JIM F. like ZEKE said after doing it for a few days you kinda get hooked?
HAPPY FRIDAY EVE!

Mornin' fellas...Still tired... finished the second coat of paint in the dining room under the chair rail. Replaced 2 outlets and 1 dimmer switch (had to make an emergency run to Lowes because the dimmer I bought was the wrong model - oops). So now I have to repaint the wall above the chair rail because SWMBO doesn't like the first color she chose! Also had to pick up new exterior light mounts because the wall light mounts are too short for the lights! No biggie there! Tonight it is repainting the dining room, changing the last two outlets, and hanging the new dining room light. Also have to replace 1 3-way switch for the kitchen (it is in the dining room). After that, I'm planning to help the wife finish organizing the study. If time permits I hope to rewire the speakers in the family room (wires don't need to be as long as they are and I have to make new wires for the 4 rear speakers). The old owner put jacks in the floor so you don't have to run wire around the room. Pretty nice setup.Had a contractor at the house last night and he recommended putting prefab trusses above the new garage. When the wife heard about this she said, 'Maybe you could put your trains up there?' 14 x 36 room! We had this very conversation about a month ago and she said 'No way' back then... The garage is about a year away, so I am still going to start the layout in the basement... gotta get trains running! I just have to build it so I can move it and expand it! Oh - got the bid on landscaping - Front of house, side of house, and new basement exit = $27,000.00!!!! Landscaping the backyard = $45,000.00 OUCH!I am trying to talk the wife into doing the front/side/basement exit this year, the garage next year, then the backyard landscaping the following year...
Sounds like Brent is going to need a money tree orchard!
Jim
Jim,
You are correct! Thank you for noticing (and asking). One of these days the weather will change in Hoosier land, but until it does, it is "Acronyms'R'Us" for this typing challenged small town soccer player.
Off to another late start today. Wife's at the gym, I am home with the kids. On call, so I will head in a bit later. Not much happening. I see where the Japanese have changed the name of Iwo Jima to Iwo To. This was the name prior to the invasion. It is interesting in that I just read a message on Lee Marvin, the actor. He was on the invasion of Iwo Jima as a Marine. He ended up winning the Navy Cross for his actions. When questioned by Johnny Carson, he humbly tells the story of how he did it. He then says that he was nothing compared to his sergeant. His sergeant stood up when everyone else was pinned down and began moving guys up the beach and into battle. "Bravest guy I ever knew" was his comment. This sergeant's name: Bob Keeshan. For those not old enough to remember this name, perhaps his TV name will ring a bell. Capt. Kangaroo. I would post information here, but I am afraid the powers that be might prefere not. Another guy mentioned in the email, a sniper from vietnam with 25 confirmed kills. This is another unassuming guy who after the war came into all our homes and taught us kids. Fred Rogers...Mr. Rogers. And the reason he always wore long sleeves/sweaters, to cover up the tatoos on his arms. He also had become a ordained presbyterian minister. I guess the less here would be never to think you know someone, unless you really do. Hard to judge when you have not been through what the were.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Not really. He would have been in his mid 30's. But somehow I can't envision Mr. Rogers as a 25 kills sniper.
I know someone who grew up on the same street that Bob Keeshan lived on. He told me the guy wasn't quite the jovial sort off camera...
ABDIB
The Chief hasn't said a word about the Muffler Man Historical Landmark just south of Roseyville. Some people have all the great landmarks. I know Jim is jealous since he only has Bunker hill, the Old Church and Boston Harbor as historical landmarks.
Quiet today in Buckeyeland. The NHL draft is being held here tomorrow. I might go down to the arena for the first rounds.
Getting ready to head to Canada to go fishing. This is my 11th year to head north with friends from Buckeyeland. Needless to say, only two of us from the original four who went in 1997 are still alive. For those that are interested you can see an old website about past trips at: http://www.geocities.com/algomafishcorps/ Click on the logo on the first page to enter the site and turn on your speakers. In 1997 and 1999 we rode the Algoma Central to the camp. For those interested in the train: http://www.agawacanyontourtrain.com/index.html On both trips we rode in the baggage car with the doors wide open. One of the photos on the fishing website taken in 1999 shows one of us standing at the open door.

Buckeye, you forgot the most important Boston landmark - Fenway Pahhhk!
The Chief has been mysteriously quiet since his return home from up north...must be busy looking through all those real estate brochures he picked up here!
Have a great time fishing!
ABDIB = A beautiful day in Buckeyeland!
Got the most god-awful cold on me, everythings running but the trains. Keeping the lid on it with lots of curries and mugs of hot sweet tea laced with Scotlands finest
Going to Edinburgh (if I'm fit?) for the Haggis hunting season next week, they need to be put aside in a warm room and left undisturbed so that they are nice and ripe for New Year!
Got the elbow from the dear lady last week, so I guess this cold is some kind of devine retribution for my bad behaviour. On the other hand the heavy heart is balanced by a much heavier pocket, saved a bomb.
One final irony, Smiley's done a bunk. (again!)

I completely forgot to mention this earlier, but today is Julia's 7th birthday! We are taking her to see the Boston Pops tonight!
Julia!
Afternoon. The Big Guy in the sod field [was a sod farm] is going. It is becoming some big commercial thing as at intersection of US 401 and I 540. Next to it is the Joyal Lane house. Historical house and can not be destroyed. Dates to Colonial times. The Big Guy was on top of a building supply place that became an early Home Depot many years ago. USe to hold a huge paint bucket. When moved to present location, held a basket of veggies [sod farm then was a summer produce farm]. Jim A's joke was stolen from our good buddy from across the "pond", John B.
Redeye gravy is ham drippings [from frying country ham] with some coffee mixed in. Good on GRITS, rice and mashed potatoes.
Got all my travel bags unpacked and ready to store. Right now, DR. JOHN put this on your calendar, next trip out is August 16 [arrive] thru Aug 19 [fly back out] to Prattsville AL. BPS grand opening. My plan now is to attend one of his services on Sunday. Dennis, pack the wife and kids and join us.
Next after that [OK Floridians] Miami on Sept 20 thru 23 for BPS grand opening.
Will be making two trips to Baton Rouge LA but no dates so far. BPS and Cebela's grand openings.
Got home after all the "to do" with US Airways and looked at my CC bill. Had a strange charge. Called US Airways. Have to go through Customer Relations for billing problem. Could not get them as they answered, "Call back later." Got to a Reservation Person in Winston Salem NC. She got me through to a supervisor [in Winston Salem] who helped me. Aske me if I knew a MS Metcalf? "No and I do not think my wife would like for me to either." She laughed. After all was taken care of and I was hanging up, I finished by saying, "$15 charge, HUMM, cheap date." This she really craked up on.
Buckeye is going to be gone and away from computer.
Did get a little shower but need more rain.
Lunch time [home grown tomatoe sandwiches] and maybe train time.

Not a Moose, but a Mouse. It was early fall and the mice were heading into the cabins. The camp owner built a home made mouse trap and we sat in the cabin while it rained (sleet) and watched this mouse take the bait fall into the water and meet his maker. The camp had no TV and the radio reception is non-existant.
BUCKET MOUSE TRAP
To build the mouse trap, you will need the following things:1 wire coat hanger. 1 empty soup can. Peanut Butter
A three foot board, 2" or 3" wide (ramp)A five gallon plastic bucket with 6 inches or more water.
To make the trap, drill a 1/8" hole in the center of the top and bottom of an empty soup can. Put the wire hanger through the can and bend the ends so the can will hang three or four inches down in the bucket. Place a glob of peanut butter on the side of the can. Put water in the bucket and set up a ramp to the top.
The mice will run up the ramp, see the peanut butter and jump on the can, the can will spin over and drop the mouse in the water.
BUCKEYE,
I made a few live traps and used them in our old appartment.
Made with ramp in front of rectanglular wood box.
Mouse goes up ramp eating sunflower seeds and weight of mouse takes him over other side where more seeds are.
Seeds are placed inside of box at far end, when mouse steps off ramp it is counterweighted and end goes back up trapping mouse in box.
Worked real good caught and released 12 of em in a year.
Had bars on the other end to see if I caught em or not, them had to do some torture techniques so they wouldn't come back.

Not a Moose, but a Mouse.
Could I get EVEN with those statements.

Hey Jim !! Don't even let it frustrate you that it seems your being ignored. Not usually the case, unless of course no one likes you....... Then no one responds to your posts. (Sound like a quandry? Rumor has it if your not liked you might get a scathing email.) But, what John says is true! One other measurement is to put up a new thread, and watch responses.
I'm going to put one up and watch what happens, (it will be boycotted) One other thing this is the SLOW time of the year also.
Don
Don : saw your post on the smoke not working but I ignored it !!
No, just kidding, I just don't know much about those & mine have always worked well !!
