Of all the schools I've been in the last 40+ years, the terazzo floors look as good today as they did when they were installed decades ago. Super easy to maintain but like Doug said they can become skating rinks if ignored. When we built our new high school the commons area was terazzo but the hallways were carpeted, what a cleaning night mare for the custodians in those hallways and once they were shampooed they became wavey and nothing could be done to remedy that situation except for new carpet.

All the Christmas trains are up and running and ready for the invasion this Friday eve. Sure looking forward to having everyone here this weekend, we love having family home.

Laz, can't wait to hear about your experience with Legacy - the Chief's photos look good.  We have these floors too in some main buildings. They can get slippery in bad weather.

'Morning from a slightly warmer Crystal Lake.

Kurt, those Jump Start computer games are pretty nifty - they go up pre-school, K, grades 1, 2, etc. We've moved a bit to web-based things: My five-year-old enjoys pbskids.org

Brent, hope you stick around. Sorry it gets you down. Me too sometimes. I guess the person behind the post has to matter to look past harsh words, misunderstood joking or what-have-you.

Chief, that's great news about the donation - and from a Northern co. too. Wink [;)]

Guys,
This is going to be my last post for a long time.  Don't even know if I'll read... I've grown VERY tired of the individual attacks on the board, the self-righteousness, and the petty tat for tat.  When I started on here a year ago there was a comradarie that I hadn't witnessed since my days in the US Army.  Now it is almost like a group of teenage girls hanging out in the local mall food court.

I hope all the holy rolling, I'm better than the rest of you, crowd comes back and I hope the board is a better place.  I just won't have any part of the mud slinging, name calling, self righteous BS. You have all made mistakes in your life... try a little foregiveness... it can be rather soul cleansing.

BTW - If you have any questions as to what I am referring to... See Sunday Photo Fun... Frank53 made a real nice comment regarding a forum member and when I responded about it I took the flame... nice group of guys... REALLY.

Good morning all,

It may be a partly cloudy day in SE Indiana and the temps may reach the 40s, but that is all subject to change.  I was busy last night.  I worked out at the YMCA for the first time in two weeks.  I did some Christmas shopping, and I had a pleasant surprise on the health savings account.  I went to balance it and discovered I had not recorded a deposit.  Woo-hoo!  Found money!  Now I can pay off a bill.  Just the usual fare on the dining car from "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

CSXetc:  Great news!  Conga!

My daughter 3-yo plays 'Jump Start World'.  A learning game for pre-k schoolers thru a CD at home that's linked to an online source.  Seasons change...there's snow on everything now.  Also keeps track of her birthday.  Last week, they had Happy Birthday banners and birthday cakes out.

Mitch, Haven't seen many terazzo floors installed in this area lately.  They are great and do last.  Cost is high and the installation is very messy, making it difficult for other contractors to continue working while they are installed.  Back in the 60s & 70s just about every school we worked on had terazzo corridor floors, sometimes other areas.

John F/jefelectric = you are correct,  the terazzo is very expensive ( an additional $100K+) but it will last forever.  The current school where my office is located has terazzo floors that are 50+ years old and look as good today as they did when new.  The old school I was in was less than 20 years old and we had replaced the original carpet with tile and then had to replace parts of that tile floor in the hallway because it wasn't installed correctly and started to crack and come up.  The new school also has a metal roof which is more expensive initially but will last at least 50 years, probably much longer than that.  The terazzo installation will take 6 or 7 weeks and you are right, it will tie up sections of the building for a while.  Contractors were hustling to get their work done in the first area where the terazzo will be installed.

Doug Murphy -  LOL - I can barely balance myself and a coffee cup on the exercise bike much less a laptop.

Have a great day.

"Happy Little Trees" - Gotta love Ross!

I think the interface cards come with software or drivers that provide the data, don't they?  Ever play Animal Crossing?  I was playing that with my kids for a while on the nintendo DS - wi fi.  We could visit each other's world etc.  Anyway, the game is in real time and sometimes it rains all day - it's tied to the current day/month/year and has all the seasons.  To make big $$$, you could reset the date in the system to say 10 years ago, plant stuff, then set it up a week and harvest the fruit and repeat as necessary.  Bad thing, if you skipped to far, weeds grew everywhere, people moved away and you got bugs in your house from neglecting it!  One of the items you could buy was a trainset on a little table you could run in your house - it would just go around in a circle - kinda neat!  I played that with the kids for months!

Sorry Sir James - got distracted.  Had to snake a toilet and bathe Chewy - she's getting clipped right now, so pretty!  G'night and TTFN!

JEF - you've been busy building that house, is it a Christmas gift?

Doug-  for my grandsons third birthday his mother gave him cake and ice cream, soooo his now famous statment was: who gave me banilla? I wanted chocolate. Sorry its that simple, but we use it.

Brutus its suppose to be the combo car. There was less than 30 minutes but I bid and went to bed. I expected someone would jump on it last minute. I'm happy I'll have a fourth car for  a lot less than a new freight car. Even if lionel sells add ons they will be more than that and the kids don't know it's the same number or care.

heres one for you chief its the southern version to Rudolph the red nose reindeer

Leroy The Reindeer

Well, you've all heard the story
About Rudolph and his nose

But I'll tell you a Christmas tale
That never has been told
You may think you've heard it all
But you ain't heard nothing yet
About that crazy Christmas
The North Pole can't forget

Well, Rudolph was under the weather
He had to call in sick

So he got on the horn to his cousin Leroy Who lived out in the sticks
He said "Santa's really countin' on me
And I hate to pass the buck"
Leroy said "Hey, I'm on my way"
And he jumped in his pickup truck

When Leroy got to the North Pole
All the reindeer snickered and laughed

They'd never seen a reindeer in overalls And a John Deere tractor hat
Santa jumped in and said "Just hold on
Cause we've all got a job to do
And like it or not, Leroy's in charge
And he's gonna be leadin' you"

Chorus

And it was Leroy, the Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Deliverin' toys to all the good ole boys And girls along the way
He's just a down home, party-animal
Two-stepping across the sky
He mixed jingle bells with a rebel yell And made history that night

Before that night was over
Leroy had changed their tune

He had'em scootin' a hoof on every roof
By the light of the neon moon
Santa wrapped his bag with a dixie-flag
He was havin the time of his life
And you could hear him call
"Merry Christmas to ya'll
And to all of ya'll a goodnight"

Chorus

He mixed jingle bells with rebel yell
And made history that night

Life's hard, even harder if your stupid  John Wayne

Model railroading is an art as well.  I would like to learn to paint railroad scenes a big fan of the late Bobb Ross he made it look so easy.Bow [bow]

Sir James - another one sold for over $21 last night, after I "sniped" that one.  This car ends with digit 20.  Cars are numbered and I think they end with 18, 19 and 20.  I think 20 is a combo car with some passenger and then baggage at the end?
