I was just down in the basement for a while working on the Christmas layout.  I dropped one of my passenger cars from the Hogwarts express on the concrete floor.  Banged Head [banghead] The rear truck broke completely.  Cheap plastic truck.  I'll have to check with Lionel and see how much a replacement set of trucks will cost me.  I think the front one just came apart, but I'll have to look it over after I calm down some more.  It could have been a lot worse - could have been the locomotive.

HEY BUCKEYE,

UNC Public TV just said they decorated 40 trees inside my summer mountain home.  They only decorate 80 on the grounds.  Guess my power bill will go up this season. Sigh [sigh]  Showing Biltmore and several groups playing Christmas music.

Hey Jerry.  Glad to hear from you.  Dewey, if it was anything falling here, it would be sideways.  Went to feed deer.  Thought they were going to get into the truck with me to stay warm.  Went to Food Lion for wife and dirt on teh paved parking lot was blowing and stinging everyone.  One wreath on upstairs window blew off and over the house.  Frosty on the front roof is still hanging on.  Mr. Penguin is still up and standing.  Inside and staying warm.  Now lets see, how many orders for Post War ZW's????????

5:50p.m. 22F. here in N.C.'s northwestern mountains. Been snowing lightly and sideways here at 3,500' altitude since noon on top of coating of sleet/freezing rain early morning. Chill factor is a bear with high winds persisting.

Snow and wind to let up around midnight ----I hope?

Sounds like Chief ran into the sale of all sales on pw ZWs @ $50  each.Smile [:)]

Man, its been a LONG time since I have posted here!

I have been diverted into many other interests (all good interests), and my winter boredom has brought me here. I have not really worked on my layout that much, it has all of my other junk on it.

I am an apprentice mechanic at a local auto repair buisness, my Boss is good, and the job is fun. Started in June, and have been working a few hours every weekday. I am doing tire repairs/replacements, brake jobs, water pumps, oil changes, radiator and thermostat replacements, diagnostics, and sweeping/garbage runs all by myself. Putting all of my wages in savings.

One major thing I have bought this summer is my motorcycle, a 1985 Honda Sabre 700S V-4, from my dad. I took the MSF ridercourse (lotsa fun) and have my lisence now. I bought all of my gear new (helmet, armored jacket, riding gloves, boots, riding pants) I put about 2000 miles on it this summer. I wiped out once on a rainy day emergency stop at 30mph. Broke my thumb and had a dime-sized patch of road rash (did not have riding pants at that time, just jeans). I had everything else on (cycling jacket, helmet, gloves), and it took it all, thank God!! ATGATT (all the gear, all the time)

I have gotten into metal casting and stuff like that, making my own furnace and waste motor oil burners (me likey fire, really HOT fire) Im only melting aluminum right now, which is fun in itself. Havn't really cast anything useful, just have been trying to get a reliable furnace/burner/crucible combo.

I see Chief is WAY far on his layout right now, definitely off the floor(not that it is bad being on the floor, hehe)

Chief, next time you find a ZW for like $50-100 that is good, grab it for me and we'll work it out ASAP.  I know you know which are good ones and how to get them right too!  Did your combine ever show up yet?

SNOW-BLOWED!  Ha!  Got the whole driveway done in like 10 minutes.  The blower has a plug in and that started it right up, then played with the choke and finally got it just right, about the time I was done.

Watching Godzilla movie (All Monsters Attack from mediablasters) with the kids - I'm training them to really enjoy the classics, just like their Daddy!  Anyway, there is a nice freight train in this one.

Took a while on google, but finally found it - it's a Japanese DD51, version of a B-2-B.  KATO makes one, but I guess that is HO scale?  Did Lionel or MTH ever make one of these???

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Thanks Sturg'.  Wel, back from the Train Show.  First time for everything.  I did get some bargins.  I will post pictures later on the Sunday photo side.  Here is the list.  All scale, new and in the box.  Lionel operating oil derrick, $35 [not oil pump the rocking horse thing].  Lionel crane car $35 [not the cheap plastic semi scale one].  Cotton Belt box car $20.  Guy had collected a lot of scale and nice stuff.  Never built layout.  Was dumping it.  Had two Post War ZW's in excellent condition for $50 each.  Had massive Lionel lift bridge, $150.  More scale cars.  Ran and got Steve and Jerry [from Miss Edna's] and they bought a lot. Steve bought one of the ZW's and then sold it on his table for $110.  Picked up a Lonel Grain Truck for $15 [already had one] and some spare brushes for Lionel motors.

Hi all

Welcome Paul

Just got back in from church.  Had two services then went caroling with the youth group.  Lots of cookies to pass out, sampled several of them!

Chief- After I thought about my answer to your question I realized I told you what an Acolyte does and not what an Acolyte is.  An Acolyte is the third rite to be received from the Bishop in the journey to the deaconate.  The Rite of Candidacy was three years ago, followed by the Rite of Lector last year and God willing will lead to me being ordained as a Deacon next year.  Each year has study and exercises to prepare the person spiritually and intellectually to become a permanent deacon and a cleric.  A permanent deacon is not “almost” a priest.  A permanent deacon can preach, teach, baptize, marry folks, bury folks, and do most of the same things as a priest except consecrate the Eucharist, hear confession, and give last rites.

Snowing like crazy now.  Need to get a nap before going in on night shift

May God bless

Morning All!

Survived Child's Birthday party...have cake and pizza left over, and Chinese special Birthday dinner leftovers too!

5+ inches of the white stuff and still comming down.  Snow blowed drive and neighbors drive.  Other neighbor went out, turned around and said you can't get out of out our street.  Blocked by stuck vehicles.   So I guess we're stayin' in!

Looks like some train running, and cookie baking...and eating!

Full of pancakes and raring to go - gotta go clear the mess of the driveway.  Got another 2 or 3 inches last night?  Since I cleared off yesterday in the afternoon, I'm hoping tis will work well with the blower as it was all snow after that.  Some time before I finish finish finish the basement I need to run a wire out to the garage for another outlet in the center of the garage (front wall).  The one the builder put in is blocked by my truck, so have to pull out a little before I can get to it.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a snowy 30 degrees and the temperature is falling. Rained earlier, and now it is snowing hard. Going DOWN to 26 by this evening.

Today, I am staying home and playing in the train room. Have some cleaning to do and trains to run. Wife has planned a nice supper for us.

Dining car has been here and left. Headed for " points west ".

Y'all have a great Sunday.

GOOD MORNING ALL

Welcome Paul; Are you a yank or reb?

The dad blame weatherman had to be right this time. it wouldn't hurt had they been wrong again. About 8 inchs and more all day they say. Roads are snow covered including the interstates. Plows go through 20 mph wind fills the road back up. Many churchs wisely stayed closed including ours. I have an Airens gas powered snow blower but for a 68 year old it's still a tough haul when it's this deep. I still have to push it but it beats the shovel. Looks  like a good train day to me. I'll be around to read the posts soTTFN,,Sir James

HI GIZ,

FIFE,  We only got about a quarter inch of sleet here, not bad as I said before a BIG FIZZLE.

CHIEF, Got my chip for the BB from Lionel yesterday.  Going to BARRYs on Tuesday to pick up Legacy.  Did you use it yet?  How long do you have to charge it up?  Have fun I can't wait to use mine.

 B safe.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Wet, windy, and a chilly 43 (you can always tell a Richard Petty fan...) here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Looks like the heaviest of the storm fell between Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre over night.  Isn't that you Laz?  Watched Scrooge (Albert Finny musical version) last night with the ladies.  Nick, you Brits apparently didn't use snow-blowers back in 1860 either.

Anyone hear from Brent?  Perhaps he's tiled inTongue [:P]; or more likely tied upWhistling [:-^]!!!

Morning all

Cold and windy in Southern Ohio

Chief-By receiving the Rite of Acolyte I am now charged with assisting the priest during the celebration of the Mass.  From the outward appearance I will perform many of the duties performed normally by a Server, holding the Sacrementary (a book with special prayers in it), carrying the Cross and candles in procession, preparing the altar during services for the Eucharist, handling the incense and during the solemn singing of the Gospel; to prepare wine and water for the sacrifice of the Mass; and to assist the sacred ministers at the Mass, and other public services of the Church.

Doug-Have fun with the snow blower.  Shovels are about all we need in Southern Ohio

Chief-Are you going to start a new pot at the begining of next year again?  Hope so.

May God bless

We had some rain and sleet here maybe a couple inches when I got up this morning.  Don't know how many inches it would have been as real snow instead of snow-like crud.  We went to son's basketball games and it was actually raining and sleeting, but it was snowing when we got home at about 4:30. Daughter and I cleared the driveway while son took a shower after the game. We'll have to do it again tomorrow, but since it is now snow, then I think the snowblower should work tomorrow - today it was just slush and sleet so it didn't work very well and we switched to shovels. Sure goes through a "tank" of gas fast! I have enough for a couple more refills I think, but will need to get a new can that holds more before the next snow. It's a 40:1 mix.  I might just convert the 3 gal can I have for the lawnmower and replace it next Spring.  No train time today, but hope to work on the Christmas layout tomorrow.

Chief - Legacy sounds great, keep us posted sir!

Sir James, Nick, Doug, John S, Laz, John B and all others, we have key lime pie, cookie-dough icecream, potato chips, or mixed nuts, so come on over!  BYOB - wife didn't get to the grocery store.

Cookie-dough Ice Cream.... Charlie and I will be right overCool [8D] I'll bring some Devon clotted cream for the pie.

Snowblowers, I remember seeing these in the Sears catalog as a kid (when Sears used to ship abroad). Come to think of it that was a influential publication where I first saw Lionel TrainsSmile [:)]

Not seen domestic size snowblowers over here guess we get the "wrong type of snow"Big Smile [:D].

Taking Charlie to "activity world" today. Will try and take some pics of the gamesroom for photo fun.

Brutus, the snowblower is the bigger electric one - also by Toro - I bought it from them over the summer. Works pretty well as long as I think through my moves so to accomodate the cord - but then again, I'm used it - I have a corded 'lectric mower too.

Rudy, our dauschund is also quite clever at grabbing dropped food or sharing what the kids leave around.  He literally eats anything.

Spent time tonight after the Potter movie straightening track - I've thought all day about rearranging a switch to get a true run-around track but it's on the wrong main line...  Good night all - have to get up bright and early to plow.
