Ah well, I'll clean the pot.

Laz - Great news about the Legacy!  I don't expect mine until after Christmas.  IF, they got it and shipped it on Monday I wouldn't see it for a week due to shipping.  Anyway, passing on some info...

Took ours to the train club Wednesday eve., noticed the Bell was missing !!   After checking all over found it on OUR layout at home.  It was on a section that is far away from where we lifted it off the track at.  So I am CERTAIN it came off during normal operation.  Got it back on, no problem.  It actually has threads on it that screws into a plastic piece that also serves as the clacker.  So you guys might want to be on the watch for that.  I secured mine one with a small drop of glue.

Got to work this weekend, but will be able to "admire and Play" for a couple of hours in the evening.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Boy ! That's funny, I made a "Pirates Treasure Chest" some years back, to many to think about, when our daughter had her first 2nd grade teaching assignment. She used it as a goodie box for awarding good achievement.

Sir James - sounds like a nice day to me!  Bet they have a HWX Sound Tender next year, don't you?  I'm on the way for the icecream, want to be home in time.  I might borrow this SR71 Nick left parked in my front yard Laugh [(-D]  Hope he made it home in time for the inspection?!

Boy was supposed to have basketball tomorrow, 2 games, but sounds like it will be delayed or cancelled with the snow, if we really get what they are predicting.  I did want to go to the a couple of train stores this weekend, but might have to wait until next weekend.

CSXect - Glad they got your F150 fixed too.  That Craftsman tool thing is too well known, people grab them very fast if they find them.  I'm pretty sure that they will still do this trade for you if it's still an item they make, but I have heard stories of people taking in stuff they owned for years and being told they'll have to pay some $$$ by a manager or something.  Worth a try though!

Evening All,

No big news today except grandson and me the big kid ran Hogwarts x again today. I coupled a trainsounds tender to the last car and we played. He liked that.

Whenever I need to fix the water I find it better for me to just shut off the whole thing. Everytime I shut off a single line like faucet, toilet, etc. the darn thing leaks for a week. A couple of them had to be replaced after I turned them off. So now I leave them alone.

Brutus- still have ice cream, better hurry to beat the storm. we are suppose to get a peice of it tomorrow nite. Doesn't sound very good.         TTFN,,,,Sir James

Harry Potter fans, check this out from my friend John -- http://duncanpumpkins.blogspot.com/2007/12/amazoncom-buys-tales-of-beedle-bard.html

Supposed to snow tonight and all day tomorrow - glad I bought that snow blower!  Great jokes Don and Jim (S-Phish)!  We're watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix now.  Wife was out near electrictrains hobby store this afternoon while I was working - where is the justice in that?  Oh well, next time I go there I expect I'll drop some $$$ on Ross switches, so better to wait until after Christmas anyway!

Laz and Edw - When I can get away from remodeling my house or my friends' houses I like to do some woodworking for stuff around the house and for friends and family too, but so far just simple things like some workshop cabinets for my dad for his gunsmith equipment, shelves and storage cases for around the house and stuff like that.  I did make a manger for my wife's nativity set a couple years ago that turned out well.  Need to get that out soon!  I have orders from my son for a pirate chest and from my daughter for an armoire for an American Girl doll, though, so I suspect I'll get some more practice in soon!

Doug - go to Home Depot and check out their do it yourself plumbing book and I'll bet they have this project mapped out for you.  If it's all inside the tank and you have a shut-off valve between the wall and the toilet, you can do this without any problem I'll bet!  If you mess it up, just call the plumber then.

Jim S-Phish, good news!  Hang in there, you have certainly made a lot of progress!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hi Chef.....

Must agree that LGB is still the best, but some of there competitors are quickly catching up. LGB went thru bankruptcy after pop's retired and the kids took over running the company. They are now owned by Maerklin, another quality train manufacturer. The newer models are no longer made in Germany, LGB had started moving production to, if memory is rite, Hungary. Now I think it is also going to China. One of the best attributes of the LGB locos, not only is their quality, but the fact that a great many of their locos will run on relatively small radius curves whereas most others won't.

If interested the sponsor of this site also sponsors a "G" gauge forum.

I was concern about the quality of LGB. I need a steam locomotive that will run 24hr. Do you think LGB could stand the demand? Do you know another brand that could perform better? IF G gauge doesn't work then I will move to O gauge. Blindfold [X-)]

Evening all,

Happy Birthday John

I remember my Grandma, who was from deep in the Kentucky hills, saying that nothing was thrown away from hog slaughtering.  You were better just eating before asking what it is.

On night shift, got the assignments passed out.  Got up early today and set a couple of trusses and purlins, then went to church to check on  the boiler pump I've been working on, and still leaks.  I believe the impeller housing is cracked.  It will be a little more expensive to fix now.

Still don't have the train around the tree yet, maybe Saturday.  I put one of my AF Franklins with a 20, 30 & 40 car in tow.  Simple and hassle free.

We are to get some bad weather Saturday.  It is to be a combination of rain, snow etc.  Bummer hopefully it will hold off till late night.  Saturday I am going to Columbus to receive the Rite of Acolyte from the Bishop at evening Mass.  I will have one more year till ordination God willing.

Chief-Got the Sears & Roebuck catalogue in the two holer?  Need a couple of pages next door

Got to go

May God bless

Jim

Hi Kurt- On those dump cars, you are right the shoes do not touch the Fastrack rails.Another little lionel goof. Check the instructions and it will tell you to use a tubular unload track. at least the ones from last christmas did.

Afternoon all!

Chef:  Brings back memories of growing up!  We would eat the boiled gizzards and hearts before Mom could make pilaf.  Pickled pigs feet with vinegar is just the best!  Bride has outlawed those delicacies, but I still get to eat my Sour ***, and Sausage.

Disney trains up and running around the Christmas layout!  Big group tomorrow.  Eldest Birthday today...Party at Chuck E. Cheeses tomorrow.....and Party Sunday with friends....Hope things stay working.

Having some issues with the dump cars... I'm not sure if the runner is making good contact with the rails.  Can I add some solder to improve this?  The control rails don't seem to be high enough to really make good contact, and the hot shoes are fully extended.

Doug, many thanks to you and all the guys who wished me happy (69th) birthday. I must say I am surprised I have lasted so long despite my attempts to end it by throwing bikes down the road and rolling off mountains, not forgetting the NHS.

If your water valve is the button disc, screw down type it should have a back seat that allows you to re-pack the gland with the valve fully open. If it is a quarter turn type with 'o' ring the only remedy is replacement (by a skilled plumber?), he will probably freeze the pipe upstream of the fault and fit a new valve.

It's 35 and overcast no snow till Sat. PM I think. Grandson watching cartoons and quiet. Good news for grandpa.  We already ran the trains, first thing he wanted to do. Later, Sir James
