Evening All.

CSXect- I have a 2000 Ranger 15000 miles. at 11000 engine stopped while I was waiting for a lite. After blocking traffic on a main street for about five minutes it restarted as if nothing had happened but check engine lite was on. It was a sensor. Dealer fixed it no charge. Now I hear they admit it (sensor) is stalling a lot of their products. Only problem I have had with it.although not many miles for things to go wrong.

To the newbe-I hope you are oiling those axles and armatures before you run those great old trains. you will be doing them a big favor if you are.

Brutus- pumpkin pie and ice cream if you are headed this way.

We had sun today 36 but not going to last, snow again by noon tomorrow they say. Reg. gas is $2.84 and sat in Toledo I paid$2.74. And whats with eggs at $2.00 dozen? whats going on? I suppose they are eating all the corn also(the chickens),,,,,Good Nite Chewy,,Sir James

The struggle with these old trains continues! Going through the arsenal and running locos, I decided it's time to run the 681 steamer. I love these muscle locos that run like a flaming cat!!! The only problem is the whistle tender won't work with the loco, it's fine by itself and no loco. Answer to my post please. TTFN

Wow! Welcome to the pot, Chef. That's quite a day.

Fife, glad you got to fix everything without a serious fire!

Colin, way to go on that test.

Csx, know how you feel, I'm still paying off an earlier repair on my beloved suddenly-dead 14-year old Hyundai... Hope the 150 comes back to life.

I got to have a long lunch at a nice Mexican restaurant north of the Loop - complete with a nice Mexican beer. Then I got to home early! Now I'm watching the youngest and a friend whilst the bride goes over to pray at the church. Hope to run trains a bit later for them; hopefully, like Laz says, with no pile-ups.

Good news the Trans Am is running fine and nobody messed with it at work they use about as much the same amount of gas. My truck is 7 years old but has low mileage and should not be having problems yet.

Good evening everyone,

It was a good day here. I found out that I got a 91 on my Religion test, and I thought that I failed. So that was a good thing for the day.

From what I understand, we are supposed to get an ice storm here in the morning/afternoon. And on top of that, they are calling for 6-12 inches of snow between Saturday-Sunday-Monday. I hope it doesn't snow on Saturday because I REALLY want to go to the train show in Philly. This is the first show that I will be attending since about April. And, it'll be hard to walk at any show after December, because of the surgery. So, hopefully nothing bad (weather or health) will happen. And if it happens on Saturday, the roads will be cleared by Monday, so we would have to go to school.

Have a good evening everyone.

Sure hope you put down some good sound deadener, if not the noise from the track to the wood will be deafening. Mine was til I fixed that by gluing down woodland scenics foam roadbed then hotmelt gluing the track to the foam. Now it is as quiet as a mouse.

Got doing more thinking about this remember what I said but then again as stated he had foam under his. Guess I do need to look into one more step before track the more I jaw on your sugestion the more I'm starting to agree and think I'll be much happier if I do .  not sure what I'm going to do but it will be something to make it a little quieter than If I did nothing.

Good Evening All:

Here on Long Island we are supposed to be getting our first snow storm tomorrow (YEAH!!!).

It is actually supposed to start as snow, then rain, then back to snow, so it will be a total mess.
Happily I work from home, so bring it on!

This should give me some time in the afternoon to work on the layout, which is finally free from all the dust of the malfuntioning shop-vac. In a 60's vintage Lionel set that I bought on e-bay, a few extra goodies came with it, including a Lionel PW crossing signal that has a bell in the base of it. The set came with all the paper work including the one for this, so I will also attempt to get this working tomorrow.

Hi all, About 3 deg C here in Peterborough today.  Got the gamesroom lighting finished tonight. Those colour change LED's work great. Should be able to simulate sunsets with the light effects. If you hear of a worldwide cable shortage its because its all in our gamesroom loft!Wink [;)]

Its not far away from being finished just some more painting and the floor to lay. Then the real fun begins with layout constructionSmile [:)].

Orn'ree bunch here today, I see.  Be nice to Mayor Chief...at least until BOXING Day.

Well GEEZ LOUISE were we lucky in the fifedom.  Last night I pulled the old dryer out to disconect the gas line and all the fittings, and saw the true extent of the damage.  The lower left portion of that mama-jama was the color of a roasted marshmallow, and the white paint had started to bubble.  HOKEY SMOKE!  New dryer arrived today, and I hooked it up when I got home, and now it's tumbling its first obscene load of towels.Thumbs Up [tup]

Doug,
Don't worry I'll have more home projects in the Spring:

1. landscape front or back yard
2. Start construction in the basement - move water heater next to furnace, room off the utility room, frame and drywall unfinished area, install pocket door for utility room, install closet door for understairs closet (where the water tank currently is), cut access way into main basement room, do some electrical work, etc.
3. Create a storage room out of a portion of the wine cellar
4. Build wine cellar storage racks
5. install temp/humidity controller for wine cellar
6. build wood working building next to shed (Susan hasn't heard of this one yet)
7. Run electric out to shed/wood working building

Oh, and I also have the Christmas Layout and then the main layout... so lots more for me to keep you busy reading about! Thumbs Up [tup]

BTW - Sorry I couldn't make it out to Chicago for a visit.  I'm short on vacation and we have just been informed that we have to take PTO on the 24th, so I'll be another 8 hours in the hole! Sad [:(]

Good morning from a grey and cold Chicago where I am happy for buried utility wires at home so we're not affected by the ice. I've started kitbashing a plastiville Schoolhouse I've had around into a passenger station for Thomas' branch line. I adjusted some areas where parallel tracks were too close so inevitably the trains were sideswiping each other. A pile up! Last evenings highlight was spending a delightful half-hour sitting in the middle of the layout with all the trains and trolleys roaring around me. Though I got the 'you spending too much time in the basement' warning last evening, so maybe I'll wait to work a bit more until the bride is in Iowa this weekend.  LOL.

I've been re-reading Tony Koester's book on model rail ops and it's making me feel 'guilty' for enjoying just watching them run around - but seriously folks, I think I may put in a few more things or change the sidings at the front of the layout to play with...

Stubbs, come back to Chi-town - or wait'll Jan when it's not only cold and snowy but there's nothing to look forward to except a far-distant spring - LOL. I like your #520 nickname.

Kurt, sorry for your loss.

Wes, your 17 mo.-old is impressive.  My five-year-old is now more capable than I am of running four lines at once, and blowing all the horns.

Brutus, have you seen thought of something like this as a basis for your station (heck I can't add a link): http://www.ogaugerr.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=B-501

Dennis, can you say where you've been filming the trains?

Brent, what will I do without your bathroom updates when you are done?

My 17mo old son Jack took control of the trains last night.  I can't even get in the house and get my coat off before he is beating on the basement door wanting to get down there.

It was the first time he actually reached out and decided that he had seen enough of me trying to control them.  He would honk the horn and look at me and just bust out laughing.  Then he would do it again...and again...then he just held it in for what seemed like a minute, laughing the whole time.  He also messed with the speed control some as well, and found the nuetral switch...

Great time to have trains!

Good morning all,

It is another rainy day in SE Indiana.  Last night was very unusual for December.  The temps reached into the mid 60s and it was warm enough to run trains in the attic.  Fortunately, I had left the 318E at home from the museum, and I installed one of the 210 switches I had gotten off eBay.  It worked perfectly.  The 318E rolled perfectly with out dimming the lights or hesitating.  The acid test will be when I bring the 8E and the 10E home to run.  They are a little more finicky over switches, but so far the $30 I spent for the two 210s looks pretty good.  I also fixed one of the barn doors so I can latch it properly from the inside.  It was warm enough to drive the truck into work today as I will not drive it in freezing weather (too light in the back end).  For once, I slept well last night.  I was out when my head hit the pillow and did not move until the alarm went off this morning, and I got to read most of the paper before I left for work this morning.  Life is good.  I had the usual fare for breakfast this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

BIG NEWS
Not THE big news I've been hoping for... but the Master Bathroom is nearing completion!  Last night I hung the shower door - required pretaping 1/4 masonary bit so I could use the 3/16 diamond tip bits I bought to drill the holes for the anchors... burned up 2 diamond tip bits on this tile... Shock [:O] Well the door is in, level and plumb (took 2 hours including drilling 8 holes).  Have the shower faucet in and the shower is sealed.  Still need to finish the grout along the edges of the shower, put up two sections of baseboard, touch up some paint on the trim, hang the dental molding around the ceiling, and install the faucet in my vanity when the replacement part arrives!  Should be done this weekend if Price Pfister gets the faucet part to me.

I have to say I am very pleased with the results... pics as soon as it is all done.

---- why is this train related?

Because now I can start construction on the main layout... I'm still going to do the christmas layout first because it will be enough to get me going and work on some modeling techniques (screw up small and learn so you don't screw up big)... Plus it will be large enough to run 2 or 3 trains... and if I don't get the main layout done quickly I can keep this one up in another area of the basement till I get the main layout done and then this of course remains as the Christmas layout.

Susan is heading to Chicago tonight on business... so that means I'm free to do what I want till Friday! Smile [:)]Evil [}:)]Big Smile [:D]
