Evening all.  Watching Sapranos.  Tony watching football with topless dancers in the background.  Wish Tony would knock off that other guy.  Now to rest.  bb01, behave and keep one eye open as you are too close to them PA Yanks and the deserters over in Maryland.  Good chat with Keith this afternoon late.  Had to cut it short to get the rental car back.  So many on the "Pot" now, I can't keep up with replying to everyone.  Really nice to have so many.  Later

Chief, by all means, please give me a heads up for a get together.  It might be a bit far, but I may be able to make a long weekend out of it.  Depends on when, and must check with she who must be obeyed.  Be nice to catch up with the rest of the folks.  A chance to check in with the Army of Northern Virginia (CSA).

As for sleeping bags, I use a sleeping bag from the Army which is several seperate units in one.  You can adjust it for the temps you face.  I use it all the time in the mountains of Colorado when I go on my yearly elk hunt.  I have been in some very cold weather with it and had no problems.

Had a busy day with church as I was on a camera for both morning and evening services.  Wife and kids didn't make it as they got some sickness going on.....and we didn't even go to York!  We had some guy from Ohio visit today, I think he wants to be part of the next movie.  He stayed up in the media center most of the time and I think he wants to interview with the producer and pastor.  Not sure about a guy from Ohio......just kidding guys, thought I would raise a few eyebrows.  He seemed like a nice kid, but wants to learn about making movies, etc.

Well, I hope y'all have a great week.  I will get an update on our dog tomorrow and we will see where we go from here.  I will say some extra prayers for her tonight.  We miss just having her around this weekend, not sure how we will do if we have to put her down.  Our other dog is obviously missing her too.

God Bless,

Dennis

feagles, I have NEVER told YOU to behave! I am having fun! If I behave-NO fun! I ain't really worried about the yanks in MD or PA cause the MD's have to go thru da capitol to get here and would be overcome with the beltway disease(tooo close to the seat of power); the PA's would have to travel I-81 and they would expend themselves fighting the 18 wheelers, sooooooooooo nothing to worry about! actually we worry about the New Jersey Americans up here-they have found us and are about to overwhelm us. they think we are giving land and houses away-little do they know(only the shadow knows)  it is kinda like when there grandfathers and uncles would drive the Buick to Florida and PAY to see alligator wrestin'.

Evening all,

Beautiful day, Great services this morning.  First Communion for three kids.  Special day for them.  After church grandkids came up and we played outside then came in to play leggos, trains and they made cupcakes with grandma.  It was fun.  I taught the grandson how to hoe.  At this point he thinks it is fun.  Later we ran trains for my daughter's friend.  Sometimes people think neat toys with animation are a recent invention.  It is so neat to show 50+ year old toys that out perform the stuff out today for kids!

Dennis, how is your dog?  As I was outside today and saw how my Sue is degrading, I thought of you and said a little prayer.

Did some studying and lining up some things to do tomorow.  Hopefully the weather will hold out.

It is good to see new folks at the pot.

 God bless

Spent some delightful time this afternoon fiddling with the laptop in the backyard getting the radio feed for Talledega. Worked well too. Don't like the ending under caution - and Jr. ending 9th or so. Spent more time at the local park with the youngest. A fine day. Just uploaded photos of the bride and kids to the church website for mom's day - they always like using them because we have a rainbow of kids. Good evening to you all.

Got a great deal on two cots at Cabelas.  They had these cots on sale, said to hold up to 500 pounds and 32 inches wide - very sturdy and didn't move much when I lay on the display.  $50.  OOPS - they are out, but giving a good deal on a different one.  Okay, we tried it and they will throw in some side thing that my wife liked, to hold glasses and odds and ends.  OOPS - they are out of that replacement now too!  SO - they are ordering 2 of the first one we were looking at, at the sale price, and throwing in those side things for free too!

Dennis - our prayers are with you and all the others with pet trouble.  Watched Night at the Museum - a good toy train joke included (ouch!).

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

MD is as far South as I'll ever live again... I've lived in Alabama (Florence and Mussel Shoals), and San Antonio, TX.  MD is nice, but seems below the Mason Dixon line they forget the Earth has FOUR Seasons and not TWO (Hot and Hotter).  I'm thinkin' Fife, Mitch, John, Laz, Buckeye, Chuck, Marty, and I could find a back road or two into the Abyss, a.k.a. the Confederacy...  All we would have to do is dress in some Grits Camo and we could infiltrate the masses rather easily... Wink [;)]

Been a long weekend here... went to see wife's friend in a bellydance recital... the eye candy wasn't good enough to make me want to do that again, that and the fact that this guy came on near the end and sucked all the masculinity out of the room... dancing and bangin' on a drum that looked like a mutilated lava lamp.  Saturday was shopping day with the wife, had to go grocery shopping and get a new cat carrier for the move (had 1, but needed 2), then Home Despot and Lowes, and Bed Bath and Beyond for a new tart pan for some dessert the wife wanted to try out, then out to dinner with FiL and some friends, and the to a friend's band concert - was OK, but they need sound man... not volunteering for that... then today it was mow the lawn, wash wife's bimmer (looks really nice now), then to aunt and uncle in laws for cousin in law's b-day... tired... wife pulled muscle in lower back so I've been taking care of her too...

HI GIZ,

Worked all day long on the ponds, got them all good,  built new spillway on little pond.   Went for 3 mile run with my dog and went over new bridge that the NED SMITH center had just recently installed.  For those of you who don't know NED SMITH, he was a wildlife artist and conservationist for PA.  He lived about a quarter mile from me and ate lots of meals at my house allthough with other folks.  He has had many of his prints on the market and currently are very expensive.  The friends and state had built a consevation center and dedicated it to hin.  It was great runnning an old railroad bed then crossing a new bridge.  Had fun with my dog today, she and I will sleep good tonite.

Rock on,

Brent, you have always seemed to be a reasonable kind of guy, especially for a Nittany Lion, but I must take exception to your most recent post. While I would defend with my life the right of married couples to do whatever they please in the privacy of their own homes, I don't see where the expression "...wash wife's bimmer..." is suitable fare for a family forum. Sorry. That's just the way I feel about it.

Hope her back gets well soon.

Another fine Stockport morning.

Tried Craiglands first Nick, no joy. SWMBO has vetoed an overnight. Called in Guiseley for F&C yesterday, Harry Ramsdens has gone right off, probably explained by a change of ownership (it's now owned by a US Co.), they leave the chips(fries) in water for hours causing partial fermentation and loss of body, YUKK! The Haddock and Mushy's were fine.

Oatcakes (grits) taste like a doormat and need to be drowned in any thing that will soften the texture and give them flavour. I am a Yorkshireman and we have Yorkshire Pudding which is pure stodge and requires much the same treatment, I prefer them as a starter with onion gravy and plenty of salt and pepper.

As I now live in sheltered housing, the gardening etc. is done by others but I remember the toil of mowing the lawns every couple of days and the pain due to my busted back (crashed a bike in my 20s), I could have asked the Chief over with his JD, Maybe a bribe of F&C might have done the trick.

Good morning from Buckeyeland, where it is forecasted to be a nice day.

Chief, don't you need to change the subject title for this posting. The Coffee Pot has now been going on for over three years.  It was born on tax day of 2004.

I edged all the flower beds.  I'm a little sore today.  Water flowing in Garden RR pond and the deck was cleaned.

Big fishing trip this week to KY Lake.

Fifedog, it you get a chance take a look at the Big Ten curve on Google Earth.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 60 degrees. Going up to 80 today, with a chance of showers later. Hope not.

Today, I have to run a few errands and then, I will spend some time outside working on the yard. Got all the grass mowed, but still a lot to do. Flower beds and garden need to be cleaned up. Maybe later, I will run some trains to relax.

Buckeye....Good Morning. You are up early today. Have a good time on your fishing trip.

Chief....Sorry I missed your call. Was busy mowing.

Well, Dining Car is here and well stocked. " Points west " will have some good treats. Time for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday. Tomorrow is May 1st.

Morning all, only a few small cases, then I head to the gym.  Have some things I have to do today....one of which is go to books a million and get the June "Trains" magazine, hear my neighbor's railroad is featured with a cover shot too. (thanks for the heads up Luther).  I will check on the dog (Lucky is her name), but I will check later this morning to see if any progress.  Wife was asking me to do some work on the layout, but just was not in the mood.  I will get to it tonight.

Thanks for the prayers guys, Hope y'all have a great day,

As for BMW lingo... if you don't own one, you wouldn't know.  'Bimmer' has been used to refer to the automobiles for years because the motorcycles make a more distinct 'beammer' sound than the automobiles do...

Well I had my requirements document just about complete, but left it on the FiL's computer Saturday night, forgot to forward to my email account.  So I have to go there during lunch to retrieve it! Sad [:(] Could have had this thing done and not had to worry about school till tomorrow!

Tired from the weekend's activities... need a day off... not getting one till Memorial Day weekend and will probably end up spending most of that weekend packing up the house for the move.  46 days and counting...

Only 35 hours till trains @ Fife's!  Nice to run trains and let the wife have a night to herself so she can get her dissertation defense over with.  Next up for her is research and writing chapter 4.  Then another defense.  Then writing the final chapter and one more defense, then graduation!  She's been at this for as long as we've been together (two years now) and I think she said 2 years prior to us meeting, so it is about time!  Looking forward to her being done so we can take a nice vacation before Football season...

Jim,
Forgot to mention that I saw your post about the tender! Glad it is working for you.  I was getting worried that something serious had happened to it and I sold you a dud.  Hope you and Julia get lots of long years enjoyment out if it!

Brent,

I think it had something to do with the brush springs not making good contact with the brushes. I opened it up and found both coil springs off the brushes. Once I snugged them back on the brushes, oiled the armature, and cleaned up the relay, it whistles incredibly well. In fact, it's very loud. Thanks again for the good deal!

I only have one pw tender left in the infirmary. A 2671 that came with my 736 Berk. It whistles fine, but the rollers spark badly when the train is in motion, sometimes causing the whistle to blow on its own...Any one have any idea why this is happening?

Good morning from a sunny and cool Chicago where it was cooler than I thought this morning for a 'shirt-sleeves' walk to work... I tried experimenting with a home-made transfer table last evening - and what I was trying wasn't working.

Haven't tried to mow the lawn yet either, Jim. One of the  highlights of my vacation later next month will be the drive south: Chicago > Indy > Louisville > Lexington > Knoxville > Columbia > HHI.  The country between Louisville and the South Carolina border is beautiful even from an interstate.

Morning all,

A little overcast but nice temps in Southern Ohio.  Off for the next few days and got lots of stuff "planned" to do, but that may change!  Going to church to knock out a few maintenance issues then hopfully some yard work.  Watching grandkids in late afternoon.  We may just sit and read CTT mags!  They enjoy the pictures and can identify the different types of cars.  A few days ago the boy asked, why do some trains need three tracks (rails)?  At that point I knew he was a died in the wool American Flyer fan.

For a little over a year I was working out of Oak Ridge Tn, and I fell in love with the area.  I can easily see retiring to the NC, Tn, area.  Always did like the Smokies, but living there sold me on the region.  BTW, I like grits, Blush [:I].  My heiratage is West Virginia and Kentucky.  Where my folks on my mom's side are from is way off the beaten path.  Still 5 miles of gravel road, no utilities except electric still.

Started working on the loader and car.  Got them working now to decide if a total re-do or just a clean-up.

Got to go

God bless

Jim

Jim, I have family up that way (Oak Ridge, TN).  My cousin is the safety officer for the Nuke site.  As you say, it is pretty there.  I try to get up that way from time to time.  My grandmother lives in Tellico, TN as well.

As for Flyer trains, gave a bunch away, I like the 3 rails.

I really hate having to police this stuff, but this is from the BMW Car Club of British Columbia's website regarding beemer or bimmer.

"The answer in part lies in knowing some BMW history and what came first.

All real BMW enthusiasts know that BMW got a big start on two wheels, what many call the real BMWs.

In those days, BMW motorcycles were quite active in racing, and one of their competitors at the track was often the BSA bikes.

Well as things would have it, a track slang developed, and the BMWs were usually referred to as 'beemers' and the BSAs were referred to as 'beesers'.

So, of course for any true enthusiast, there is no way that a BMW car could be called a 'beemer', so they were called 'bimmers'.

Unfortunately, in the US and Canada, and perhaps other countries, there was a time (kind of still is) where for various reasons, a BMW owner was considered an upwardly mobile person, and of course due to the fun in driving their BMWs most all of them had big grins on their faces.

Hence it is little surprise that the non enthusiast types out there incorrectly labeled BMW cars and their owners as 'beamers' or 'beemers'."

Perhaps people should take a step back and chill a bit.

Bob,
I honestly do not think I over reacted at all.

I was responding to a VERY uninformed person who was taking making very derrogatory comments about myself and my wife.

Since we are not permitted to defend ourselves and our loved ones here... I have decided to depart from the boards for a bit...

Good-bye.

Brent,

Just woke up. Sorry that mom got your knickers in a twist. I guess I'll have to change my password, but when the old gal strings 6 or 7 fairly obvious language gags in a row she figures that somebody will catch on. Maybe if she'd posted this a month earlier....

She would apologize personally but I won't let her near the keyboard. You are one of the good guys on this forum.

Good afternoon all,

In an effort to defuse the BMW wars for a moment I will change the subject.

Spent the morning at the fitness center in an effort to get back on schedule after missing two weeks over York.  Need to shed a few unwanted pounds as well.

Typing this on the laptop as I was about half way through reading the posts on the pot and pfit, the ole computer shut down with no warning.  Probably a power supply, not sure and not in the mood for trouble shooting right now.  A good thing I back things up to my home server on a regular basis, shouldn't loose much if it is totally gone and I can't recover the data.

John Baker, Now that you are back on the pot again, I will have to relearn English. Wink [;)]

While checking the pot I have been watching an interesting show on tobacco on the History Channel.  Now I have a craving for a cigar, which I haven't smoked in years. Smile [:)]

As for a Southern accent, I was told that I had a dandy when we returned to PA after spending three years in Charlotte, NC between the ages of 3 & 6.  That was a long time ago, but I find myself backsliding when I spend time in the South, sorta like Hilary.  So maybe I can pass when we go South. Laugh [(-D]

I have retired, at least for the time being, from mowing the lawn, the grandson is quite anxious to earn some money and he does a good job.  So we are both happy.

Take care,
