Roy, I had no idea you were from the nawtheast! That's great! So, you're from New Jersey? Are you "connected"?

Rewired a dead 6026 whistle tender last night. Works great now. So loud, all 3 kids had their hands over their ears! Still have 3 "problem child" tenders to go and then all my post war tenders will be overhauled and in working order. I brandish a mean soldering iron...

Good morning from a sunny and cooling Chicago where it is supposed to rain just as I am getting out of class later tonight.  The Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum are also wonderful spots to visit. I was focusing on train-related things to see or do. The Field is what I think a museum should be like - soaring, expansive spaces with lots of stuffed things and dioramas.  Mike C, I am fortunate the Art Institute is a block away - I went every week when they had a free admission day; of course, they just recently they got rid of that - I have my favorites too to visit: including Nighthawks, American Gothic, Magritte's Time Transfixed - with a steam engine coming out of the fireplace. A great place!

Jim F., that Rock 'n Roll McDonalds has been significantly re-done - it is now like a gigantisized version of Kroc's original restaurant.

Roy, speaking of vacations, I moved ours to June so I'm now going to be here when you visit for the LCCA convention in late July. Tell me what side-trips you plan to make. Can't believe poor Roy was accused of being from New Joisey - might this be the ultimate insult to a Texan?

Like the good book says, "when I was a Child, I did childish things, but now..." lets just say I got wise in my older days and moved where I don't have to worry about how much snow, etc.  Life is great here.  I just look at it that I was born on the wrong side of the MD line and fixed that by moving here.  And for that rascal sherman, you should see what he left, plenty of mansions and plantations that just make you feel at home.

Actually, My Dad's family is from Germany, and my Mom is right off the boat from across the pond in England.  And they are looking forward to moving down SOUTH.  WE know how to take care of the elderly too as we did away with state tax on retirement income.  We will occasionally visit the north to remind us how bad it is on the "Other Side" and remind us how good it is down south.

Hope Y'all (including Kieth) have a great day!

Dennis,

This is just between you and me, so don't go telling the Chief, but if I had my way, I'd move to Georgia in a heartbeat. I hate snow like you would not believe. And all those southern bells . . . I got Georgia on my mind!

But can a Massachusetts boy really find true happiness in the south?

Fife,
She's just mad at me because she has to write a $1,000 check for car repairs!  I told this is what happens when she wants to be the accountant... so now I have to pay an additional bill or two for the next couple months... Sad [:(] Oh well.  At least I don't have to transfer an additional $1,000! Big Smile [:D]  She's a keeper though, love her to death.

So now she wants to have professional movers do the move... one place wants to bring 5 guys and 2 18-wheelers... I asked her how much stuff she thinks we have.  I mean I moved my entire 3 bedroom house down here two years ago and only used about 3/4 a 36 foot truck!  I'm thinking 1 18 wheeler or 2 36 foot moving vans should do it... but 2 18 wheelers!?!?!  What are they doing moving the next door neighbor too?

Jim, I won't tell anyoneWhistling [:-^].  As for a Yank from Massachusetts moving down here, I have run into several who have made Georgia their home.  I used to be on the fire dept. many moons ago and you would not believe the number of guys on the job who moved to Georgia upon retirement.  You can come, but don't expect us to conform to you, you just have to fit in and behave.  We will have that blue belly turning grey before you know it.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  You might want to check with Kieth, rumor has it, he wants to move down here too.

I guess I will finally get back to posting on a regular basis.  Spent some time with Don when he was in the Keystone State.  I think he may have gotten his fill of trains for a while.

Jim Fortner, I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, as I didn't read every post for the last week, but there was quite a lot of Halloween themed stuff at York.  One booth was that theme exclusively, you would have loved it.  Might be even more in October.  As far as joining, just download the app. and send it to two of us to sign that are TCA members.  Or just send it to me and I will get both signatures for you and save some postage.

Doug (dagrump), I understand what you are going through with your stepmother, I went through a similar situation with my stepmother almost 4 years ago.

Jim,
I picked up 7 metal figures at the show last Friday:
Bride
Groom
Photographer
Army Soldier
Policeman
Engineer
and a lady in a red dress (she appears to be undressing)

Wife sees them and says, "A bride and groom?  What the heck?  A photographer, what are you going to do, replicate our wedding day?  Oh an Army guy, wonder why you got that! (I was in the Army) Policeman... can't figure this one out.  A train guy, go figure.  Oh a lady with black hair.  Is that me?'  'Yes dear, she reminds me of you.' 'WHAT THE HECK HER BOOBIE IS HANGING OUT!'  'See I told you she reminded me of you!' Shock [:O]Whistling [:-^]

I got hit of the head for that one! Confused [%-)]  Then I told her about the 'adult themed' figures Fife and ran across.  She just laughed.

Brent, I have a couple of O gauge "Chiefs" roaming around my layout. One is gladhanding people as they try to enter the diner for a bite to eat. The other one is trying to scam a paper boy out of a free paper on the station's platform. No R or X rated girlies on the Jumijo. Well...Magnetta IS the town tramp, but only my wife and I know that. We don't tell the kids. She's also on the platform waiting for her sugar daddy to arrive. You can see the Chief over on the left, and Magnetta is on the right in the red dress in the photo below:

Please note that Chiefie left his Snow White outfit at home and is conservatively dressed in a gray business suit.

Brent, get the movers - call around and find someone who comes recommended. Estimates will be all over the place.  It was worth every dime to not have to manhandle all that stuff myself - I was stunned we easily filled an 18 wheeler - and two pickups (with just plants and pets)  --- and the kicker is - we were moving about 4 blocks (7 yrs ago). Big Smile [:D]|

I too have a few I gauge "Chiefs" on the layout - loafing in front of Eagles Ridge Electric Park; waiting for a trolley at Junction station; and, cutting down some big trees in the Apitz Forest...

Good afternoon from beautiful and warm Buckeyeland.

I get to mow grass tonight.  Big Smile [:D] The John Deere started very easily last week after being stored all winter.  Did you know that John Deere is a northern company?  I can't imagine a self righteous Southerner sitting his butt on a JD, but there are always a few odd balls down in NC.

Not much train news.  Too much work.

I was stunned to learn that Roy was from New Jersey. Shock [:O] I always thought he was from Philadelphia.

See ya down the tracks, and Brent get the movers.  Been there, done that, too many times.
