Yanks are being covered by me while I am here.  Going to take 7 to 8 of them to watch me.  Keeps their forces reduced on the front line. Wink [;)]

Chief,

Thanks for the report  - sounds like the mission is going as planned.

Buckeye - glad to hear one of you did OK. Sorry about the stone not breaking up as planned. Maybe you could blast it with some grits! Tongue [:P]

LAZ - YES! Thumbs Up [tup]

Don - back to the trainroom Yeah!! [yeah]

Doug - to make things worse - our daughters boyfriend had to go to the hospital for a little procedure and she has felt compelled to camp out there and at his house while he is recovering. I can only hope all this togetherness will hasten their breakup some day?

Hallmark Day on the Western Front !!!!

Painting IS complete!!!

Now I've been trying to negotiate some "comp" time with the wife, (She's the President of our company, I'm the Operating Manger) Wink [;)]  Have been trying to convince her she needs OJT training in order to "run the show" while I go to York for a week.  For some reason she is not tracking to the same logic detail that I am.  Will have to come up with another approach.

Maybe if I would get her one of Lisa's Beagles, that would help Confused [%-)]

Don't envy you guys with the teenage daughters, Chris must be "seeing" 6 or 7 ladies.  Every weekend its someone different, or they are on a two or three week rotation, not sure.  Definetly better than I had it.  Tonight is Sadie Hawkins, and it is someone totally new. It sure works for me not having someone steady hanging around.  I think  the car is still the top priority.

Think I'll go make arrangements for a nice dinner to celebrate the end of painting, (no ulterior motives) Evil [}:)]Wink [;)]

Don,

I am in your camp. Until this kid came along - our 15 (soon to be 16) year old daughter ran through the boys which was our preference. To make it worse - this kid is a slug - he is a nice enough kid, but he doesn't take her to things she likes to do like the school dances/events, bball games, etc. She made the 10 finalists at the school's version of American Idol and he did not come to that. All he wants to do is "hang out" which also involves his slug buddies. ARGH!

Don, you could always bring the wife with you.  If I recall there are a number of outlet malls not too far from, or in, York.  I'm sure one of the other forumites would drive you to and from the show.Evil [}:)]Laugh [(-D]

Good evening,

The reason George didn't know me is that I haven't been in Barry's in the evening in years.  Always go in the afternoon when Mike & Barry are generally there.  The evening guys are all part timers.  Barry is there some evenings but I forget which ones.

Brent, I have done two of those sleep studies.  As a result I now sleep with a CPAP, a real pain, but I sleep like a baby.  Of course the stress relieving fact that I retired about the same time may have something to do with it. Big Smile [:D]

Don, Glad to hear the painting is done.  Got to get started on the layout so you have some place to run all that equipmnet you are going to buy at YORK! Smile [:)] BTW your wife will be able to call you at YORK, you are allowed to answer your cell phone, but must go outside to finish the conversation. whats up guys. just wanted to check in, and see how things are going with everyone. all is well on this end. i'm starting to feel like you guys with the work schedule. as i'm not really being able to play with my trains. between my wife, daughter, and my new job. trains dont really have time to ran. but i do have a small 060 circle set up in the herth room (fancy name they gave for the room) i get to run a few of my trains. to hold me down until i figure out how to balance the 3. i have to do a little yard work, and put down an electrical fence fo the dogs. as the neighbor came and told me my dog is sticking his head under the fence, and it is scaring her a little. glad she came and said something to me first, instead of calling the police. hope all is well with everyone. happy b-days to any that have came and gone. also my prayers go out to any that need them.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a very wet 57 degrees. Rained thru the night. Going up to 70 today with a chance of more rain. Low areas are getting flooded. Some roads are closed, next to streams. I'm glad we are on a hill.

Today, I have to take one of the boys back to the Vet. He needs another shot for this coughing. Weather isn't helping him. He was doing better until Thursday. It rained and got damp. He is beat from coughing.

Worked on the train room, a while yesterday. Put together a cabinet to store extra trains. Slides in, under layout. Looks good. I have most of the tools put away and all of the scenery material together. Now, to begin the task of installing it. Put new, brighter lights in all the engines. Now, they look good coming out of the tunnels.

Dining Car has arrived. Time for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

Chuck

Reggie, glad to see you back and the daughter is so cute with here little hat.  Passed a Schneider rig on I-70 this week.  He was pulling a container on a UP trailer.

Earlier in the week, I was in Akron.  The ice was still on the lakes between Akron and Canton.

I am still in the running to win the basketball pool so maybe I can buy a new engine or car for the layout.

Have a good weekend.

Morning guys (and Lisa).  Dreary with a light mist in Gettysburg.  The Chief brought us such lovely weather today.  Got home last night fromthe recruiting junket.  Found some good candidates, the question is will they move from the hills of West Virginia to the flatlands for a job.  Getting ready to meet Brent/Lionroar88 to travel up to Harrisburg for the big lunch meet with Chief, John/jefelectric, Fife, LAZ and Mikey.  We'll see who gets the bunny ears in today's photo....

Later...

Good morning from a dreary but warm Crystal Lake where I'm gearing up to take the youngest to see the 'real-live' Spiderman at the local Walmart. Woo Hoo. Z

You know that kid's book titled, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie? Well, I'm living that life with the bride now that she got her new couches delivered and I've thought I finished the kitchen. Last night, our 'date' was spent at Lowe's picking up new cabinet knobs (nothing wrong with the old ones - they don't match somehow) then she wants to look at lighting fixtures. Does it ever end?

I've discovered a new method of birth control - have the daughter and her beau take her younger brother and two of his little friends to see a movie - I heard they had to take the kids to the bathroom eight times. LOL.

Good to see that beautiful girl, Reggie. Train time with work and the good weather usually calms down a bit for me in Spring and Summer - though the basement is wonderfully cool place to work in August.
Buckeye, that survey made me LOL - there's good folk just a bit west of me that answer to that.
John, what is a CPAC?

Good morning from sunny and warm Alabama where temps are expected in the mid-80s today. It's a gorgeous day, but dry - we sure could use some rain!

Today is younger daughter's 15th birthday. She's already got car fever and doesn't have her permit yet!Sad [:(] Also found out that son's Jeep was totalled after his accident a few weeks ago. We'll get the settlement check from insurance next week and start car shopping for him next weekend. May look at another Jeep.

About time to get out and do some yard work, then take family out for daughter's b'day dinner later this evening.

Have a good day, all!

Afternoon all!

Hope everyone is doing well.  I've been keeping me head down while the Neil Young thingy blows over Wink [;)]

It seems spring has sprung.  As the snow finally disappears we're seeing the wildlife of the area more frequently.  The usual squirrels, rabbits and racoons are out in droves and the birds seem to be everywhere.  One big surprise was the sighting of a.... flock? gaggle? herd?... of wild turkeys!  3 males and 5 hens.  In all our 25 years of living here we've never seen turkeys before!  All of them looked large enough to be the main attraction in a Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving dinner painting.

Went to a NSLHS last weekend for the first time.  Of course to make the 4 hour round trip worth while I'd have to purchasing something.  There sat a NIB PWC freight set from the Lionel 2005 V1 catalog.  I had to have that!  I didn't even ask to see the engine run....just flashed the gold card and I was outta there!

A few noteworthy observations on this set.  The 773 is monsterous!  I wasn't prepared for it's mass when everything else I have of the Post War and Pre War era is semi-scale.  Even my Pre War 226E is a full 4" shorter than the 773.  While it isn't as detailed as a 700E it sure is scale in size and is decidedly the 1950 version of the 773.  I would have rather had NYC ( as it was on the 1950 version )on the tender than the factory's Lionel Lines it came with.  As for the drawbar...it's just way too long and the huge ( about 1 3/4" ) gap looks stupid.  I couldn't resist this challenge and made up a shorter drawbar on the tender to close the gap.  Unfortunately I was only able to shorten this by about 3/8" so it didn't make as much of a difference as I had wished.  The tetherless IR system limits how much the gap can be closed.  It runs good and pulls really well even without the magnetraction working on my Atlas track, the tires on the blind drivers compensate for this.  Speaking of Magnetraction, the drivers are coated an ugly dark grey which would have looked better painted black IMHO.  The sounds that I can access are great!  Can't wait for my TMCCII so I can try everything in command mode.

The cars in the set are reproductions of a later era....I think this particular feight set was originally offered back in 1965?  It was nice to get some operating cars I hadn't collected before.  The fresh new stuff looks odd to me as I'm used to looking at used beat up PW offerings.  The cars look puny behind the 773...but then that was an original compomise as well.

I guess I'm pretty happy with this outfit.  I certainly couldn't have expected to find originals for less money.  It's changed some of my plans for the next layout though.  Think I'll try devoting a significant section of it to semi-scale stuff running on tubular track.

Have a great time today to all of you meeting in Harrisburg!  Seating the 800 pound bear beside Chief should keep him in line!

Well, I made it back from the lunch meeting with Chief and the rest of the crew.  Let's just say it was a surprising lunch.  I'm sure someone will post some photos soon.  Food was good as well as the company. After lunch Fife led us on a short but productive railfan journey to the Enola yards.  Saw four bright shiney NS GP38-2 engines in a lash up head across the Susquehanna.  Also saw a double headed UP locos hauling stone in some MOW gondolas.  We also saw a CN loco fire up and pull forward and then back but she did not leave the yard while we were watching.

Take care,

Mitch

Looks like the South won this round.  I should never have told the Chief where we were going to have lunch.  He hatched a plot with Doc Holiday's to have each of us served a bowl of grits!Sad [:(]

That is not ice cream in the small dishes.

And a few of the railfan pics.

It was a rather dreary day but a good time was had by all.
