Evening all.  Wife fixed big meal.  Fried porkchops, stovetop stuffing, corn on the cob [frozen from garden] and applesause muffins [they were goooood].  Was watching TV in recliner and suddenly woke up later.  Disked and turned over the garden today.  DR. cut on me somemore and froze a few more.  We talked trains.  She and her son went to last TCA train meet in Raleigh.  Missed it as Town Board retreat.  Said she liked it but did not spend any money.  Son wanted several things.  Says hubby has Lionel trains from his childhood.  She has been trying to get him to get them out and set them up on a layout.  Went to Miss Edna's for first time in weeks.  Got another TPC 300 for the outer loop.  Wanted to run conventional on all loops and run them separate.  Microwave popcorn time.

Dr. John, we are trying to find out if Prattsville BPS is going to open this year and when.   Think I will be there.

Later

PS: Fife, went across the old C&O [I think or B&O] tracks at Hampton [right after you cross the James River] which is now CSX.  Saw the switching yard for the coal facility.  Counted 2,356 hopper cars.  I know they had to be NS as CSX does not have that many cars in its fleet. Wink [;)]

WOW!!!!!! Money well spent.  Just finished wiring in the second TPC.  Ran Post War 2055 [newest one] on inner loop and 2065 on outer loop.  Ran them with CAB1.  Sure is fun.  Whistles blow great.  Can slow up and speed up with the red knob or the brake and boost buttons.

BTW: Dennis, are you running trains yet? Wink [;)]  Do you need my help? Laugh [(-D]

Had a belly full of IE7 am now running FireFox, first impressions are good. Start of a new learning curve for this TOG.

0930GMT in a sunny mild Stockport, hope it keeps fine for the weekend, my niece is coming down from Scotland for a few days, haven't seen her for over 5 years and that was at a dear aunts funeral. Sad to relate it seems that the only time my small scattered family get together is at a funeral, so this is going to be a real delight. Funny no one seems to bother with Marriage or Christenings these days, not that I am a religion fanatic, just a nice happy occasion.

As Nick says Benny Hill was a victim of the Establishment that permeates our society like a cancer 'if your face doesn't fit? you're out!', when I was younger, I was black balled by the Freemasons because I went for a job with another member of the secret society. My father was a Freemason (he died when I was 7), I didn't find out until I was in my 40s. If you can get it? Watch 'Monty Python at the Hollywood Bowl' (the first one) their finest!

Nick I am reluctant to go through 12v to get 60cps (it seems a very costly route) but I have not found the electrical equipment I know is out there. When I was in the manufacture and export of machinery to the US, we made everything to run on your juice. In order to test the equipment, we used a rotary converter that was large and expensive. There must be a solid state device around? I'm giving myself another month and then 'hang the expense, throw the cat a goldfish'.

Good morning from a freezing New England!

Still cold here and will be until the weekend. The kids and I added more coal to hoppers last night.  Looking forward to the semi-annual train show in a few weeks. I'm looking for a 726/736!!

Have a great day, all!

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and slightly warmer with temps heading to the low 40s today.  It was a quiet evening as Lucas had one of his friends over and I went to the YMCA for some treadmill work. Lucas and my wife watched "House" while I checked out eBay.  Just the normal fare for breakfast on the dining car before it heads to "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Morning all!

White stuff is falling... who's got the Alaskan door open?  Angry [:(!]

This is the forth snow fall in two months and people STILL can not figure out how to drive in this stuff... hint: Your TIRES are NOT on DRY PAVEMENT - Read - YOUR BRAKES AREN'T AS EFFICIENT so you need to LEAVE MORE ROOM!!!!!  Saw 5 accidents on my way in.  Nothing major, just people being blatantly stupid.  Witnessed one - keep in mind it is snowing... man driving Ford Mustang (Rear Wheel Drive Car, no all wheel drive) he is cruising along at 70mph+ SHAVING! Lady behind him, driving BMW 5 series (think it was a 530i) another Rear Wheel Drive car without all wheel drive, she is CURLING HER HAIR... don't people have bathrooms any more?  For goodness sake.  Well the car infront of the guy slows down, guy jacks his brakes (again I have no idea why), lady - not paying attention as she was looking at her mirror, slams full tilt into guy's rear bumper - airbag deploys sending curling iron into back seat, guy's airbad deploys slaming into his face (shaving cream everywhere).  I was stopped in traffic due to another bright person who decided the median looked like a good place to park his car.  So I pull off to make sure everyone is OK, and call the state police... 4 cars are there in minutes (weigh station on other side of road about 1 mile back)... they ask what happened... they did everything they could to keep from laughing...

Fife - Wife thinks I'm nuts for wanting to come over and run trains... I asked her if I could set my layout back up... she said I could come over... LOL!!!!

Mitch - sorry to hear about your wife's friend.  Will keep her and Dave in my prayers.

Laz - makin' the ins with the ladies eh? Wink [;)]  LOL!  J/K  Nice to know gentlemen still exist in the world today.

Chief - Ask your wife to make the group some applesauce muffins... they sound VERY good... ask your wife if she will teach mine how to cook? Smile [:)]  LOL!!!

Side note - CSX is running adds for Freight Conductors... sounds like an awesome retirement job!!!!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold 23 degrees. Just starting snowing a little. Suppose to go up to only 33 today, with snow flurries.

Today, I am driving into Cambridge to do the weekly grocery shopping. I really dislike that job, but it has to be done.  The price of gasoline has gone up quite a bit. It's now at $2.49 a gallon. I'll be looking at the price in Cambridge. Must be another Holiday coming up or something. This is really getting ridiculous. I'm going to run the trains later to relax.

Dining car just arrived from " points west ". Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Forgot to mention this: A coworker showed up this morning with a BIG box of HO trains for me and the kids. Some of the stuff is pretty nice. I know, it's HO, but free trains are free trains!

Laz, Have a nice day off.  You are right about drivers.  Yesterday I slowed to make a right turn and noticed the guy in back really coming up fast.  Glanced in the mirror and he had his cell phone up in front of his face, dialing a number I guess.  He woke up just in time to avoid hitting me.

I believe we have close to 4" now.  Actually speeded up a little, that usually means it is about to end - wishful thinking?

Now to read the rest of the posts.  More later.

Good morning, all!

We're enjoying nice weather in Dixie today. Cool and sunny this AM, warming up to the 70's later today. The dogs enjoy being outside again instead of cooped up in the house.

Chief - The BPS is taking shape quickly here in Prattville. Local scuttlebutt is that it will be ready to open in October. I'm sure your info is better than mine, though. If you get to come down here, let me know so we can get together!

Enjoy the day, everyone!

Good Morning from an Olympics-minded Chicago where 'Surprise!' - it is snowing again, and it makes me want to move to Prattville, Mt. Airey, Rolesville or somewhere else - grits be danged. Had a good last class for this quarter last evening. Only 1 student enrolled for the Spring quarter though - I've never had to cancel yet. Hope this isn't a first. Got to take the little green car in to the shop tomorrow - I love it is so small I can fit in the parking spots in the Metra lot where the plows pile their snow. Hope to run trains tonight...

Morning all,

Sunny and cool in Southern Ohio.  Finished second draft of my Exegesis paper for this quarter.  Add references and done! Big Smile [:D]

Ran trains a bit last night, noticed track getting dirty, time to clean it.  It has been about 5 months since I last cleaned it, so that's not too bad.

While weather nice, going to trim apple trees, and some yard work, and as usual read more for finals in two weeks.

Does anyone know of a train club in Southern Ohio?  Maybe I should make this question into a thread?

Prayers to all who need them and Thanks to God for those answered!

I bet that Greek class comes in handy.  As explained earlier, I always wondered why I had to take Greek, too.  (Remember, my class was called Thermodynamics.)  Needless, to say I am able to program the thermostat for the furnace and air conditioner.  Of course my EE course provided the best training.  I can put the batteries in my flashlight so I can see down the sewer manholes.  Big Smile [:D]

From the banks of the Wabash River in famed Hoosierland, it is cold and clear this morning.

I have not mentioned anything about the bus wreck in Atlanta that killed six Buckeyes, but the very small college is still reeling.  The college is affiliated with the Mennonite Church.  The kids and the community are still in shock.  One of the things that has been mentioned frequently, is the generous support of the people of Atlanta.  The healing will take a long time.

On another note, if you want to see trains, Lafayette, Indiana is a great location.  Due to the major track relocation, many of the tracks are less than 10 years old.  Agriculture and automobiles are the big ticket items loaded to the tracks.  Did you know that the Walther's HO truss bridge is modeled after the bridge here over the Wabash River?

Mitch

Mitch, we have been finding a number of such cases lately.  Typically, these patients have a bicuspid aortic valve (supposed to have 3 not 2).  Along with this, they have a dilated proximal aorta.  Until recently, they would just treat these patients with medicine and they would live with it for awhile until it ruptured and they would die.  Now days, we operate and fix them.  This is a big operation and we do a number of them.  If she wants, we have a guy that was specially trained in doing these.  Or, she could also try Shands in Gainsville Florida, Dr. Tom Martin is THE GUY that does these.  I am not sure about the folks in Baltimore, they may be very good at it, but I just am not aware of them.

Chief, I have been running trains for awhile now.  I have one level running, and am in the process of wiring the other two.  Still have plenty of work to do.  By the way, when BPS opens in Prattville, my mother in law lives close by, perhaps we can make the trip too and meet up with you and Dr. John.

Well, I am on call and getting ready to head in.  Hope everyone has a great day.

Dennis

Buckeye, I am sorry I did not mention this earlier.  Our hearts go out to the family and friends.  We did hear about this, unfortunately it was the day after we got blasted by the tornados.  With all the damage here, and the extra patients, I guess it took second page to that.  It is always a tragedy when such things happen.  I have driven that stretch many times and it is easy to see how a driver could be confused.  I believe they say it has been the scene of 80 similar accidents in the last few years.

Hey what did you do with Jesus?  Exit-Jesus huh?!  LOL, just kidding.  What passage were you working on?  I did my NT exegesis class in Revelation (not Pre-mil Dispensationalist though), and I had a blast working on Rev 20:4-6, 15 pages of exegesis on 3 verses, and let me tell you there was plenty more to do!  But, my prof said, "Your paper is to be 15 pages long, if it goes over 15 pages, then on the bottom of the 15th page I will write 'Good paper, but ended abruptly.'"  Naturally, I got the hint. Where at on the Wabash?  I've lived in Princeton, Oakland City, and Washington, Indiana.  Flat country out there, and lots of NS coal consists.  Had a track 1/2 a block from my house at one point, learned to sleep right through it though.

Oh, BTW, good morning all!

Cool and clear here in the Bluegrass this morning.  I had a Hebrew vocab quiz again, ugh!  I think I got a 70, bummer.  Good thing I get to drop my lowest quiz grade at the end of the semester, hopefully that 70 will be the lowest. Wink [;)]

Ran the train some last night, but mostly worked on my Hebrew words, those things look like chicken scratch.  Anyways, I've got class in 30 minutes, and I have a short thing to write for it.  Take care all.

Best wishes to the seminarians on this forum! I've done two tours (M.Div. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in the early 80's and a D.Min. from Beeson Divinity School - Samford University in the 90's) so I feel your pain. Those papers were really fun back in the days before computers - I did my master's work on a manual Royal typewriter. At least I had a computer for my doctoral work.

Afternoon all.  Got ready early this AM and buddy drove up.  Then he had to rest as he had just eaten a biscuit from Hardees.  Waited for 30 minutes and then went to pond.  He had his chainsaw and he was going to cut tree for me around the pond so they would fall in the pond.  He cut first one and it fell sideways.  He gave out.  I cut the rest and they fell right.  Poor guy was about dead when we finished.  I thought I was out of shape.  Now to fix lunch.  SNOW???  It is 62 degrees and climbing here.  Got to get lime and nemotocide on garden.  Will chat later.  Dennis, good plan.  Hope to get this one [not screwed up like Macon] and then we will have some meal time and go to Dr. John's early church [as store does not open until 10 AM on Sundays].

Hi all, 1710GMT in a very sunny Peterborough, if this keeps up it will be "T"-Shirt weather.

John B, Yes rotary converters are rather expensive and large. There are solid state frequency  converters which I first started looking for when the problem first appeared with my sons set. I wanted to have a "one box" solution. However they are also very expensive(we are talking 4 figures). In basic terms they work in identical fashion to the set up I use i.e. AC-DC-AC.

Another idea I had a look at was a American spec. online UPS with pure sine wave output. Again these are expensive I looked at having a basic unit built and the cheapest it could be done was £500! After talking with a very helpful guy who worked for a UK manufacturer of frequency converters. He agreed that the cheapest method was to use a DC power supply and a Pure sine 110V 60Hz inverter.

The Amperor 300 Watt 12V 25amp power supply is very good value a £39 including the dreaded VAT. I keep looking for a better value supply but I have yet to find one. In effect we are building are own solid state device.

Its a pain in the *** but running stuff thats a little unusual always involves a challenge. The sense of satisfaction when I got the CW-80 and trainsounds working was great. Even better when I got TMCC fully working.Cool [8D]

Well with the neighbors help, everything is cleaned up here.  That is enough snow for the year.

Just got a book on the Lehigh and New England.  Very interesting little railroad.  One of the interesting things is that it never got any closer to New England than New York State.  Had trackage in PA, NJ & NY.  Only had a few passenger trains.  Main freight was had coal and cement.  In the early years also hauled a lot of slate.  When had coal died, it did too.  Actually I haven't started the new book yet.  The above is from previous reading.

Take care,

Re: Jerry Clower

I have a CD of his that my wife bought several years ago at one of the tape stores. I expect you can still find them.

"oowwwee he's killing me--shoot up here amongst us". "But John I might hit you--shoot anyway, one of us has got to have some relief"!

[John up a tree poking at the treed coon that happened to be a mad, fighting Lynx---"knock him down John"].

And then of course, there is the ledgendary Ledbetter family.
