As a side note: I've been thinking about buying my first PW steam engine.  Looking for something that I could get off Da Bay in the $75-150 range.  Paint can be a bit chipped but no missing parts.  Something in the x-6-x or x-8-x range. Solid runner and smoker - doesn't have to be really collectable, just a good runner.  Perhaps something like a 2046. Any suggestions on what I should start keeping an eye out for?

Morning all from a snow-challenged Windy City! Hope all out east are safe and starting to dig out!

Spent an hour replacing MPC Delrin couplers in a bunch of cars I bought off Da Bay - so added those onto the layout. Then taught the boy how to manually couple and uncouple cars so now he's building his own consists!  Also ran my first ever lashup - my low-pulling GP-9 in front of my monster-pulling U36B. Not sure it increased the total pulling power but the boy liked it and it seemed to work fine.

Wife seems to have accepted our new long-distance basement floor spur - just need to get the voltage up a bit more and it's ready to put into service.

Morning all, Well we made it down to a big 28 this morning. To cold for me. We are thou suppose to get up to 47 today and only a low of 38 tonight/tomorrow morning.

No real news for today did pick up a parts/restore-able 2025 for $31.80 including shipping so will play with that does run but forward only so may not have a E-unit in it easy fix and some cleaning up and see what else. Appears to have a smoke unit in it but does it work lol. only time will tell.

Also picked up a 242 with a tender that has the wheel in it for the sound of Chug along with 5 lower end cars for $30 including shipping I will go over that and put it aside for next Christmas time and see if I can find a deserving child I'll find a transformer somewhere during the year I have plenty of track to add to it maybe a switch or two even or cross over to make a figure 8. It gives me something to do and doesn't cost much.

That 2025 could become a candidate for that also. time will tell and depends how much I really like it once I fix it up lol.

Hope all are having a good weekend and keeping warm and dry. You in North east unless you really need to go out stay in, it's not worth it.

Talk to you all later.

Good evening all,

Today was a good day.   Watched Man City tie  West Ham 2-2 in a well played game with lots of action.   Did some errands and then ran trains tonight.   I had put a Kadee magnet on the HO track a few days ago and tested it today.  No accidental uncouplings and most cars uncoupled after a few tries.   I ran a little DC powered PRR switcher on the Lionel Fastrack and it ran extremely well.   Watched SNL because Selena Gomez was on.   Other than her songs, I could have done without the rest of the show.   All in all, it was a good day.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Evening

Welb...having Lucy up here all cuddled up between my arms again. Had a rather productive day with plans and such around me here.

Going back down to 5F again tonight

I think where chief also lives had a fair bit of ice on their roads...hence other issues?

Passing through real quick.  Been on generator for 8+ hours.  Duke Power is SORRY.  Would not send a crew.  Took 20 min to turn the whole town back on.  News conference time.  Very little snow.  Sleet and freezing rain.  Never got above freezing for 2 days.  Will tomorrow.  Did get one hour of sun.  Main streets are open as DOT had contractor wear out his blade in Rolesville.

Good Afternoon.

We got to 14f out here....but we had sun and not a cloud in the sky here...ahhh, but we will be paying for it...after tomorrow's little bits of sun we will have about 10 days+/_ of dull and dribblebits....

Welm, I had a fairly quiet time in my trainroom...I have to replan the plan that I thought I had as a plan. But, of course, it ain't working out that way. So, the afternoon down there had some words go out into the air...

The snowfall in some parts down the east coast is just rediculous...I seen 40+" mentioned there, Yikes!!!

Chief: Nice to see you back on here!!

Good morning all,

Wondering how my relatives are doing in Virginia and North Carolina with the present snow/blizzard.  Need to give my brother a call.  He lives in Suffolk, Va which is about 20/25 miles inland.

Chief, are you getting any snow in Raleigh/Rollsville?  My sister lives not too far from you in Jacksonville, N.C.

The promised shower for here has not materialized yet.  Rain seems to stop further North before it gets to us.  Snow and rain in Northern California though.  That's good for the reservoirs.

My new pillow seems to be helping my neck pain.  Had a real good night the night before last and last night was not painful but I had trouble falling asleep.  Maybe I'ts a matter of getting used to the new pillow.

later,

Ray

Well the passenger car saga is over there on there way back. I guess he's paying the shipping but have seen Ebay step up and do it so either way I'm getting all my money back and the shipping back wasn't paid by me either. I will find more down the road at a later date. No rush. I can also use that money for other stuff.

Wife just passed out been cleaning this room as typing there actually a room here she shouldn't be that shocked 1/2 to 2/3rds is because of her lol

I realy don't have the whole room as I was suppose to lol. ( never figured I would )

Hello there,

Well we got it good and it's still coming.  Weather guessers are saying snow till tomorrow morning. Not sure how much we got because it's blowing so much. The burn barrel that is sitting on two blocks has the top ring (1/3) out of the snow.

Stayed in bed late. Just finished breakfast (probably brunch) Son will be here in a while. I need to help him put the chains on the tractor. Then I'll drag out the small snowblower and start on the walks.

Fife ...........good luck with the car

Prayers for those in need

Sun and 30 today

Nobody needs a storm like this one. Feel bad for you guys. The Weather channel people drive me nuts with their silly snow reports. I do hope all our forum friends keep the power on.

Mornin' boys.  Foot of snohizo on the ground already in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Succeffully transported our nurse to hospital at 0500, but couldn't make it back up the fifehill.  Dug out a spot below at the corner, so hopefully won't be burried too bad on my return.

Banks - still in limbo.  New picks on the board though.

dougnotta - watched the livecam.  All I could see was the back of some white haired guys bald spot, and another chap with a white ball cap.  Texas Special was running at the time.

Morning we got this white stuff on the ground here but nothing like you all up north have gotten I'm sure. It's so little I would say less than a 1/4" it's there in spots on the grass barely covering the road out front.

Not a lot planned for today 30 going up to 44 today then dropping to like 25 tonight. But by Tuesday we are suppose to be in the mid 60's as a high again Big Smile

Hope all are doing okay and have power. Talk to you all later

Hello there,

Snow Cannon is hitting us. Not sure if it's a near miss or direct hit. Been snowing since 6pm got about 3 1/2 ". Depending on which forcast we are in the 3" to 22"

Still enjoying the Tree and trains under it

RT..........condolences on the loss of Midnight

Doug......I like the "Queen"

Fife.........Home search????????????

88.............Job???????????

Kev........think I'd have flipped on the lousy chrome job. It will probably peel of the rust the first time it gets hot

Caught he** from Endo doc on Monday. Numbers are better but I'm still a heart attack waiting to happen

Spent the week trying to relax and get ready for the snow. Put in a ton of coal (needed that snow or not) Hauled the s**t out of  the barn and put the snow plow on tractor.

Mom is not snapping back from her most recent hospital visit. Docs can find nothing physical.

Hard to believe but tomorrow is the 1st anniversary of Dad's passing

Gonna head t bed

Evening all from Snowy (~8") cool (~24F) Southern Ohio,

It has been snowing since around 11am a dry fluffy snow. The kids and dogs played outside most of the afternoon with the other neighborhood kids. I set the generator and cord out so if my bride does need to go to emergency power everything is close at hand. It is not automatic switchover but the procedure is written out and she knows what to do.

We bought us a new router and the speed and reliability of the wireless is much improved. Thanks Roy for your input.

Ray-Adoration is always time well spent, it is one of my favorite devotions

RT- The idea of having a train layout with slot cars running with it sounds really neat.

Good night and may God bless

Jim

I think the Wabash has possibly aged better than I have. Smile, Wink & Grin

Good day at the museum, no major catastrophies. Many of our visitors of about the same age as the day's operators enjoyed seeing the trains of years long passed.

RT, Did you send me an e-mail ? Just wanted to check because the url seems so much different than what you have sent in the past.

Good Evening

Lucy is all cuddled up between my arms whilst I am trying to type chicken wing style here, lol!! Her purrs are loud here....

After I finished the grocery getting and visit with the gang at our diner I went home and began replacing couplers on a few hopper cars ... and. promptly ran into my favorite bugbear... losing coupler springs...which, of course, meant crawling around on my hands and knees looking for the dern things...which I managed to do. Now, because of that, my sciatica is having war with me....das pain from das sciatica!!!

Doug: nice looking wabash unit there!!

Morning/afternoon all!

Cold (38) and blustery here - ugh. Maybe 45 today and temps for next few days will be lower than last predicted.

DougnottaG - like the Wabash!

Slow day today - standing Friday night dinner out with neighbors tonight.

Have a great day all!
