Aloha. Warmish today. Don't know who is more annoying - whiney Cubs fans or obnoxious Mets fans. Too late in the year to be playing baseball anyway. Kev, Win8 or 7 are perfectly 'stable' and supported. Win10 is fine too. We're not upgrading yet. Congratulations on 50, Doug. Something for us to strive for. Only 26 for us...  DonB, I have exactly the boat for you for the upcoming deluge.

Morning all,Nice but cool out quiet so far guess need to start shaking these bones and get going nothing planned for today but might as well start moving you all have a good day talk to you all later.

Yeah Don I could see the excitement when being part of the train crew but at the gate I would get tired of that real quick also. Like you said you have to many other things to keep you busy. That sounded more like a job for a high school/collage student or someone that is retired and wanted something to do but not earn a lot because of SSI as it could effect that.

Gloomy but going to 72 today.

Don it sounds like you have enough work without working. Just enjoy.

I ran some trains yesterday just to check things out. Everything seems to be in working order.

Good, morning, slept in.

Thanks RT and Doug,
I should of said I have Windows 8.1 now and it works fine. I keep getting the pop up for the free up-grade and I have been told that Windows 10 is the last hard drive operating system that Windows will ever do. The next will be cloud and I don’t think I want my operating system someplace up in space where who knows who can get into things. I just want to be sure those who have it like it before I upgrade.
Don, Can’t say I blame you for moving on. Those Japanese style pep shift starts are stupid. We did them for some time but they died off fast at Cat. And when I crushed my arm back in 1996, that the was the living end of my time in the shop. I was just a liability at that point to them. At least I got lucky and moved into the logging engineering group and then later Logistics to finish out my time. Most of the injured shop workers just would get put in the cripple crib for the rest of their time doing simple sub-assemblies.
Well SS pad-day so Bills to do.
Thanks to the working.  Wink

Morning all.  Being lazy as first meeting is at 4 PM.  Long day tomorrow.  Starts with meeting at 7 AM and ends with elementary school event that ends at 8:30 PM.

KEV, I have not upgraded but Brent here says its great.  I have US Government contractor friend here in Rolesville [works from home] who says it is great and do.  I will soon.  Says less bugs than any Windows product ever.  Told me you could still run old along with new. ????

Later.

Doug M, Only $14m for that little thing?  I don't think I could afford the fuel.  Thinking more along the lines of a Pontoon boat, maybe the Chief will send me his for awhile.

Kev,  Yeah your right.  I wouldn't go back to the Railroad, and found out yesterday they transferred me to Guest Services to take advantage of lower pay scale.

Well going to get going got some tracks to cover today.

Hope everyone has a good one.

Thanks guys on the up-grade thoughts, guess I will next it pops up.

Fife,,you got it my friend, but at least I did it early in life. Sandra and I will do 33 years since we met and 29 years of marrage on Sunday. Took awhile but I got it.

Anywho I went to Manards and picked up whole house water filters so I will swap them out this afternoon. It has been a year so it is time but the water is flowing so they can't  be too bad. When I was there I splurged on a Menards Gold Line Alaska flat car with lumber load. Man nice car with great detail for only $24.99. I think it beats the heck out of the Lionel offer for $89.99. The load is big and has chains holding it and all. Neat.

Time for lunch.

Good morning all,

Congratulations to Doug DG and Don B.  Big milestones for both of you. We have a 56th coming up next month.

Don, sorry you can't go back to the railroad but understand if you don't want to.  I think you made the right choice.

Went to caregiver meeting yesterday.  P.O'ed the lady I was sitting next to when I moved to get a better view of the speaker.  She took it as a snub.  I just wasn't thinking.  Too much on my mind.  Got some good information though for services available to my situation.  Called one of them this morning and they are sending me forms to get in a program for aging seniors to get more help taking care of my wife.

My youngest adult son and his fiance are forging ahead making wedding plans for next May.  Just hope I am well enough to get through all the festivities.

later,

Ray

Afternoon all mad at Ebay again lol  I closed my acounts back in June so to start again you need to become a new person in there eyes well here is what that pertains today

they will hold your funds from the sale all funds until the buyer has left you pos feedback or 2 weeks has passed since you where paid

So you get no funds to ship you have to ship at your cost ( this can last up to 90 days ) you also need to have $250 in sales to get this dropped there was another can't remember right now but the average little man can not afford to do this oh they will do a thing where they will pay the shipping but theres guidelines for that also the shipping can not be more than 30% of the cost of the sale of the item and the shipping can not be more than $15 so you need to sell something that weighs less than 1LB and sells for over $18 so they will release a amount to cover your $6.00 in shipping cost. and if you don't sell for like 90 days it goes back to this again suposely from what I just learned by talking to them today. so guess I will buy from the ones who can do that which tells me are your dealers as I don't believe your average person is going to keep those guide lines up. now maybe once you get pass all that it won't revert who knows and if you have been with them for a while it may be your grandfathered in under another way but for you that join now this is how it is supposely ( I sometimes wonder if they don't do that just to this one and not that one just luck of the joining ) anyway I will think real hard or have to set some serious money aside for shipping if I'm going to keep selling on there I removed everything at present while I think about this one

Oh yes got a letter from MD today

Have a good evening all

Windows 10 is to Windows 8.1 what Windows 7 was to Vista and XP was to 95/98.

Media Center (Microsoft's poor attempt at an all-in-one media player) is gone (YEAH). You will need to download and install one of the 100s of better players that are out there. I don't watch DVDs or Blu-Ray on my Desktop (that is what I have a home theater for) so it is not a loss for me.

The install went smooth as silk. The install will download to your desktop and go from there. I will warn you, when I did 3 laptops I had no issues, however when I did my desktop (with an external video card - not the one built into the motherboard) I only had standard VGA till I got the correct Windows 10 drivers off the manufacturer's website... other than that no issues at all. Still have full control over the all-in-one color laser printer/scanner/copier/fax, monochrome laser, and ink jet printers, external card reader, all 6 external hard drives, the internal RAID and internal backup drive... oh yes my desktop is more like a server. Smile Without the $1,000.00 per month electric bill - and no I do not shutdown my PC, it stays on 24/7/365.

BTW - I never installed Windows 8 on any of my devices and I hated using my laptop because of it (it came preinstalled)... but I spend a lot of time on it now.

Thanks Brent! I don't have a PC anymore, Just an old HP EliteBook 6930P so I should be good right? I think it has enough to handle the Windows 10.

Sad news, Not sure how I feel.

A woman Sandra works with got killed last night by her disgruntled husband. After he killed her he walked into traffic on I55 east of town.
Here is what Sandra sent me.
I can tell she is very upset.

" Kevin, That women that was murdered in Plainfield, was the gym teacher with the Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer, that I had told you about, just saw her on Monday, looked great and had two more treatments to go. We had an all staff meeting this morning, everyone is in shock!! Luv, Sandra I wonder if Katie had her at Central because she taught gym there and driver's Ed, her last name was Triplett."

"He was abusive in their mar age, and she was leaving him, went back to the house to get a few more things and he was home, then he stabbed her multiple times, then offed himself, left 5 kids behind, 2of hers from a previous marriage, and 3 of his from a previous marriage."

Please say a prayer for the family and the children.
 Thanks,
 Kev.   Tongue Tied

Evenin' All.

Kev, Hearing something like that makes one wonder "what in the hell is going on with this world". Prayers for her and the kids, needless to say we know where he should rot.

I tried Windows 8 awhile after it came out, wanted to wait until after errors/flaws were fixed. I could not stand it, after several hours of frustrations I dumped it and went back to Vista. The BetterHalf has 10 on her laptop, have used it some but the learning curve, at least for this Neanderthal, seems to be a bit frustrating and time consuming. We used it while we were traveling back east so I had no choice, either put-up with it or have a thousand e-mails to go thru when we got back.

Got a couple of Lionel Docksiders that have to be repaired, either motors or boards, not sure which but inclined to believe it's the motors. Sigh Not to mention my UP Desert Storm SD-40 needing some electronics work. Everthing works great except for the lights, all lighting is dead. The funky contacts are working, the springs attached to the shell and contacting the chassis mounted contact plate, so I think it is the board that controls the lighting.

Well, time to start thinking of what to have for dinner. Got some left over Cincinnatti Chili in the freezer, Coneys w/cheese and diced onions sounds good to me. Dinner

Safe travels & have lots of fun at York. If you happen to run into Andy E. from MTH how about lobbying for some period appropriate seated passengers for their Overton cars. Thumbs Up

Later All !

Good evening all,

Work went better than expected today.  Weather was nice as well.   Rested as much as I could.   Still do not know if I have a game on Thursday.  Stupid Parks and Rec has 5 teams.  The bottom two play the first round.  Does it take a rocket scientist to figure which ones those are????  Seriously.....   Watched Arrow tonight.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hello all

Back on the mountain for the first week long shift. We are closed for weather and the control system is still trying to wake up after having the summer off.

Kev - I think it was SPRay who had an idea who made those car kits. Can't remember myself. Too bad the watchman's shanty didn't come w/ a cat instead of a dog:)

Well the layout is up on its legs in position and the house put back together. Went and bought a real vacuum to clean up after. First time I bought a carpet vacuum and I'm almost 48. Can you tell I'm single? Had one that someone gave me, but I think there was a reason it was free:)

Have yet to run any trains, but I have the transformers w/ me. Ron said one didn't work so I'm going to troubleshoot that in my spare time. Looks good in the living room and I like the arrangement better.

SandyEggo Doug - congrats

Mornin' Fellas

Just a quick stop and post, then back to work to get things tidied up before I leave today. Looking forward to York tomorrow. Hope to make it to Round The Clock before everyone heads to the show.

Kev - Depends on how old the laptop is. If it had Windows 8.1 or Win7 then I would think it would be OK. Windows10 does a compatibility check prior to install and will not install if the unit can't handle it.

That is just sad about that lady and her kids. Never understood how people can do that sort of thing. Had I known her, and knew she was going to go back to get stuff, there is no way she would have been going alone and without police escort, especially if there was any chance of him being there. Prayers for her and her kids. Wow.

Sorry for the rant yesterday just had to get it out. Probably will go back but be prepared to have to cover the shipping myself until they see I'm not a shyster or what ever cause they don't see my past record as it's not there per say.

Anyway it 57 out side right now going up to upper  70's today suppose to be like 81 tomorrow I think. I'm waiting until we actually buy this place after the first of the year but I'm thinking of trying in here ( the smallest room 8' x 11' I think ) anyway it has some old wood floors which over time someone painted part of them ( it's really funny you can see where there was a rug and they painted right around the rug never lifting the rug ) any want to see if I can sand that and the rest of the floor and then seal it and see what it looks like. If I like I may do the rest of the house room by room Which would really only be 3 more rooms Our bedroom, the living room and the Dinning room but there all a lot bigger but still would be a nice out come I think.

Oh well onward we shall go nothing planned for today other than reorganize this room again as going thru it getting stuff that did sell and I listed on Choochoo I made a mess again ( its a small room so it's not hard to do.)

Time to go make something to eat not sure yet but will figure out something.

Sun and Hi 60s for the day.

Most of the outdoor stuff is buttoned down for winter now. Nothing special in the train news department. Wondering how long it will take for MTH to announce a GG1 with sparking panagraphs. A chat with RT & Charlie till bedtime last night.

Morning, Could not sleep when Sandra left for work at 5:30am then I went into some crazy dream thing. Now I am more tired than if would have staid up.  Bang Head

Brent I think the Laptop is a 2005. I will run the check.

Bad thing is she requested a police escort but she went before they got the chance to show I guess. Something like that. Lots of rumors going around.

Bob, I like the dog.  Wink Already have one of the Shacks and it was from back when I had a layout for my son when he was three in 1982. I will put this on on the other side by the asument park.

Yorkies enjoy.

Afternoon, Guys.

Yeah Brent, you can’t make this stuff up. So now I am running on Windows 10. So far it has been easy. Had to find the off button but I did. I like the way it just left things the way I had them on the desktop.
WAY better than Windows 8. I hated that. 8.1 was better but this is fine. Thanks for the instructions and help guys.

Hello all

Still in the clouds here on the mountain. Hopefully we will get a chance to open later.

Kev - I imagine that shack is about from the same year. I got it as a gift from relatives who didn't realize most of my stuff @ the time was HO.

I have a couple transformers and a bunch of automatic swithes I will try and flip on the bay. Got most of that stuff piled under the N gauge layout right now. Keeping the new O-27 track I have and the various Marx switches I have acquired.
