I did work on the old kit cars from Bob today and have found they have a big problem crossing modern turnouts with those sliding shoes. Will work on it some more. I do like them even if they end up on a side track at the Railroad Museum I am thinking of doing next. It will be my IRM Doug.

Fife, "War of the Worlds", the first version w/Gene Barry(a.k.a. Bat Masterson), was one of my favorites. The newest one with what's his face as most of the newer movies rely more on special effects more than anything else. If you were to search youtube you might be able to find the original radio broadcast w/Orsone Wells to entertain the kiddos.
Had a regularly scheduled visit to the pacemaker clinic today, they hooked me up to the dynomometer and put it and the ticker thru their paces. Everything passed with flying colors, kind of a funny feeling though when they stimulate the heart and you feel it react like that. Next four month check-up will be done remotely thru the monitor on the nightstand that sends/receives info from the pacemaker. Under current circumstances my battery should be good for seven years+.
Have to fine tune friday's lunch menu, got some halloween pasta (shaped like witches/cats/pumpkins/etc) so I plan on making a good red sauce and serve it with "Oozing Eyeball Meatballs" and time permitting I might even do a Kitty Litter Cake.

I am waiting till next week for the last grass hair cut. Any leaves after that will have to spend the winter with us. For me the MTH catalog was pretty bland, nothing I can't live without. I do like the W&LE hopper but Pat's trains already had some when we stopped there in April.

Hey guys,Good evening, Yeah a project would be good for me. I can't sit still, never could and built this shed for it.I did get the leaves to burn today and spent 4 hours clearing/burning leaves and moving the down Ash trees to Brian's burn pile. Then Brian came over about 4:30 pm and we shot the BS and drank beer. It has been a long time and it felt good to just talk to someone other than George.Fife, I am not much into road names but like you I like the color scheme of the car. I am a kid that grew up next to the EJ&E line in Plainfield IL. Not many know of it and Lionel has done two box cars, 6-9422 and 6-9470 and now they have offered a SD38 in J dress the 6-82800 but at $649.99 I am only a looker but I do recall the # 650 sitting buy our house many times and would wish for one. BTW KRM works but you can all just call me Kev.

Every day is a good day to stay home. Funny now that I have been off this long almost seven years now after 45 working. I look back and see how little all of those things I did in the working years I thought "so" much of really did not account for anything in the big picture of life. Not even a grain of sand in the bucket of life.
Grand-kids are where you can make it up. Make up,that is the sins of work..
Well pulled seven engines off of the table today and will pull some sets off tomorrow. Just was running out of room to run stuff, So I decided to do some inventory change and pull some stuff that has been on the wood for 4 + years. I have lots of old stuff I need to run. So I will do some switch around and move some others. Heck I could not move anything, every spear was full and I was running out of options.
Only issue is I need more shelving to store stuff on.

All is well here, I think. As long as the problems are minor ones, I have no issues. SMOG test due on our van. So last week I made a blunder, took it to a large national Transmission Company who offers "FREE Check Engine" light diagnostics. Yep there free but they read the code and give you the code. IF you want the code decifered its $150 ! So went to another place and they offered the same deal but do NOT apply the $150 toward the repair. So went back to the transmission company. They said one of the codes was from the transmission, that the ratio between second and third was causing it. So gullible me said OK check it out (anoter $500). He calls a day later with a list of bad parts as long as my arm. Total cost to rebuild $2800. So I told him NO not going to happen, just put it back together and I will pay the $500 as I agreed. So he wanted to call me back in 15 minutes. Then when he called the price is now down to $1500 out the door with a year warranty. I gave in, told him to do it. 2 days later I pushing to get the car back, he keeps reminding me how great a deal I'm getting, just because they don't want ANY dissatisfied cusomers. So I go and pick it up, then he tried to get me to let him replace and axle for $100??? Told me IF I had any further problem with the Check Engine light to just bring it back. (Right) I drove off and got 1/2 block, and the light is back on! So I'm in the same spot I was a week ago, only out $1500 and have a rebuilt transmission I dont think I need. Oh well, my fault I should have known better.
On a lighter note, one of the layouts I was going to start working on soon, going to be delayed for a month or so. The owner (a contrator) has decided he need a bigger layout. (Currently using a 2 car garage, decided to move the real wall out 20'. So the room will be 44 x 28'. I know he has the resources and capability, but it is going to be a monster.
I had a couple of Dr appts today and it all went great. Asked about the Shingles shot, and the VA is going to provide it. So that's not bad.
Getting tired so hope you all stay dry, and have a great day! (Getting windy here, Santa Ana's, can certainly do without them.)

Don your luck with cars sounds like mine. My truck was vandalized about year or so ago after repaired the ABS light comes on they show where there is a tooth missing in the wheel funny never did it before but claim it couldn't been part of the vandalize at time didn't have the funds to check it out but still under so-cal warranty as the insurance company backs the claim so may see if it could be with the wiring harness they spliced back together.
Oh well have decided come next spring ( we take possession of this house first week of Jan. 2016) will look into converting the garage into a train room seeing the truck will never fit in there anyway. ( truck is about 8" to long) and I don't really have room in the house for a train layout, it only makes sense. so that will give me about 14' x 17' to use for a shop and train room if I section off about 4' x 10' that should be enough for the shop seeing I don't use it that much anyway ( maybe down the road get a storage type shed convert into shop lol shhh don't tell wife.
That's the plans for now anyway. need to check into doing the overhead ( the attic area better to make me feel better ) but believe I can do most the work except electrical and closing the garage in and cutting a door into the garage area from the now storage room attached to it the actual building is like 20' wide by 18' deep ( outside dimensions)

Don, your not alone on the repairs. Seems like every time I take something to get fixed it gets to make the trip at least twice. Makes you wonder if they test run anything. Last time they worked on Sandra's car the check engine light was on before I got home. And this was the dealer. They should know better.

A few years ago. I took my pickup to the Ford dealer for an engine light, always have to wait for parts so I picked it up the second day and the light was STILL on. They did get it right on the second try, turned out to be something entirely differtent than they did the first time. At least mine had an exrended warranty that I usually pass on.
Aloha. Hey the sun is finally out - burning off the spooky-looking fog. That blimp sure caused havoc a few days ago - Fife, I thought of the same Austin Powers scene. The winds and rain of the past few days have knocked down most of the leaves - I can now see how this wisteria is taking over the yard like kudzu. I will wait a few days for things to drive off and hopefully, the leaves will blow into the rest of the neighborhood I am the only house with big trees so always have a lot of raking to do. Speaking of cars, I had the oddest experience today - I took the bride's car into the shop to check a few things for winter - everything was fine, even the tires, nothing needed to be done. They didn't even charge me for looking. That's never ever happened to me.

Don, sorry you had so much trouble with the car repair. I have a smog check coming up next week on my old 87 Buick Century. It always passes because it has such low milage for it's age but if it doesn't I will have to think about getting rid of it because it can't stand the cost of all that it needs.
Got lab results back yesterday on wife's leg tumor. It is called an invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Have an appointment with surgeon on Monday who will schedule a day to remove it. Hope there are no complications. My family doctor ditched the dermotologist that he first sent us too. So now we are in better hands I hope.
Bought my wife some blue jeans and new PJ's. Says nothing fits right although she tried them on. I will take back soon. I have come to the conclusion that she can't wear anything with a stretch band waist. Bought her some other new clothes a while back and foolishly threw all the tags away. Now she is unhappy with those too. I'll probably just donate them to the church. I give up. She tried on everything at the store and said they felt OK but now, not so much. I think we should just buy a bunch of Moo Moos like they wear in Hawaii.

It was a long day at work, but it convinced me to take a week off work. I know I will be buried when I come back, but it will be there no matter when I do it. If they get desperate enough, some others can take up the slack. Wife and I are already making a list of things we can do next week. We also got doors on the last 2 bookcases by ourselves. Now I have the temporary tables to run trains now. Did some set up testing tonight for the Halloween exhibit tomorrow. Also watched Grimm and Blue Bloods. Kev, you are right about work. I am so looking forward to retirement, but I also know it a few years away. I hope everyone has a good day.

Fifepops was called into action yesterday, as boy needed to be picked up at noon. He wanted to play trains downstairs, and afterwhile asked about the "fire train Grandmom bought me..." Yes, the 6-16660 Wifey purchased at YORK. The one that was supposed to be a Christmas gift.
So up at the carpet central, the boy was playing with his new train, along with some army tanks on flats, and some small metal airplanes. He spent an hour alone in the living room. No tv. No i-thingies. Just him, the toys, imagination, rockin' it 50's style. 'Twas nice.
Banks - The fellow is asking 2200. Parade ready. Good looking red finish. Newer "skins" too. Wifey wants her Kawasaki Mule instead.
