Good afternoon all,

I hope everyone survived the 4th.  Ours was nice; we had good food and great weather.  Life/work have been keeping me busy but I have had time to work on the layout.  It is coming along a decent pace.  The youngest and I enjoyed Rail Fest last weekend.  It was at a local park and had lots to do and see.  I'm planning to relax the rest of the day.

Chief - Please take care of those sharks.  The family and I will be at a beach in NC in August for some vacation time.

Resting up after the 4th.  Had lots of hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches with cole slaw yesterday.  Had some store bought iced tea but did not like it.  I threw out what was left.

Almost overflowed the pool yesterday when I forgot to turn off the water I was adding.  Kids brought over their pet cockateel bird yesterday but it drove us nuts wanting to get out of the cage.  We are going to be stuck with the bird for about a week when they to on a trip next week.

Live in son is in Atlanta now.  Called us last night.  We have to fend for ourselves this week.

Morning all.  Sunny and humid right now.  Possible T'storms [hit and miss type].

Resting up from yesterday.  Parade after a T'storm went well.  The great fireworks.  Someone spent some $$$ on some.  Shot them up before ours went off.  Think neigborhood folks near park.

Cookout was great.  Lots of hotdogs consumed.

Kev, I know you are a brat. Wink  Actually cooked some with the hotdogs.  They were all eaten.

Had not missed you. Whistling [Friend Fred and his wife just got back from there]

Watching TV now.  Wifey gone to In-laws to check them out.  Don't think I told you about her Father.  Had locked their keys in the car when FIL and MIL got home.  Took ax and knocked door knob off.  I went Friday PM and replaced it.  He paid me with a Fox Sterlingworth double barrel shotgun [collectors item].  I was well paid.

Have a great week ahead.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 72 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Nothing lined up for today.  Perhaps I'll organize our storage room...naaaahhhhh...

Shoved off from the pier at dusk, with Wifey and FifeMax (sporting his new pet-vest), and we putt-putted around Old Road Bay, surrounded almost 360 by fireworks.  It was pretty cool, and she really enjoyed herself.  Maxie stayed below decks for the most part.  Oddly, due to bad weather all afternoon, we didn't have the parade of speedboats blasting by, so the water was pleasantly calm.

Good evening all,

Spent the day dismantling the train table upstairs.  It was built with the idea of not being disassembled.   It took a while but I have it in small enough pieces that when we have to clear the space for construction work, it can be moved easily.   I also watched England defeat Germany 1-0 for third place in the World Cup.   I hope everyone has a good day and a Happy 4th of July.

Good morning all,

One of the wives in our church social group passed away on June 1st after a long battle with cancer.  Funeral is next Friday.

Happy 4th to all.  My son left this morning on a trip to Atlanta to be with his girlfriend who is traveling with a group.  He won't be home until one day next week so we are "home alone" again for a while.  Have to plan some things so my wife won't get bored.

8N, the water tank on those early American type 4-4-0 locomotives generally surrounded the wood pile in a U shape, not just at the back but all around.  Sometimes they stacked wood on top of the tank sides so you don't see them.

Did anybody else catch 'The Great Locomotive Chase' on TCM last night?  I did.  This is the first time I've seen it.  Not a bad movie.  It answered the question I had about where the water tank is on a General type of locomotive - looks like it is centered on the back edge of the tender.

Started the downstairs bathroom remodel today.  It is a full bath that is right off of the kitchen.  Does not make much sense, so we are going to build a couple of walls to make a 1/2 bath and a closet.  Got the fixtures out and about 1/2 of the oak floor picked up today.  Planning on having it back to the studs before the weekend is over.

My NYC boxcar I ordered from Menards got here today.  I have not completely unpacked it yet, but through the plastic packing, it looks pretty good.  I'll try to post pictures this weekend.

Going to watch a truck & tractor pull tonight.

All for now.

Good Morning,

Fifedog - The train meet is not until 7/12, so wanted to start early with the stuff I'm going to take.  Testing and maintenance on everything.  I will send you a list next week.  Probably best item is a 1615 switcher.

Got the El Camino (87) back and seems to working great!  Finally, been thinking about taking a one day excursion, but then had an unwelcome surprise.  Got a @#$% abcess in the MOST uncomfortable area, ended up in ER and its been removed, but definetly painful. So, maybe next week or the following week for my little trip.  (Anyway need to make arrangements as well).

V8Vega - Dennis, not that is a lot of chicken legs!  I can smell the Grill all the way down here.  Now I AM assuming that the drumsticks are from chickens and not "game hens".

Chief - I really appreciate your consideration regarding the El Camino, but just couldn't let you take the risk of driving it that far.  I need to do it first.  Besides,  California plates in NC?  That's asking for trouble.

Ray - Glad to see they got the painting done!  One less hassle to deal with.  With your pool how many hours do you run the filter system per day?  I need to run ours between 4-6 hours, they even recommend more because of the volume of water (32k).  Regarding the gardeners, I've seen signs going up  saying lawn painted by so & so.  Can't say they look real good.  Maybe the painters need to "roll" the paint on, instead of spraying it.  Seems like the whole idea has a LOT of opportunity for scams.

Doug dg - Sounds like your up and getting around, making spagetti.  Just don't over due it!

Better get going don't want to make this too long.  Hope everyone enjoys the weekend, and help keep everyone safe with the fireworks!

Later,

SJ - Just noticed your post, I think your Right On!  A Grits Barrier not only would keep the Sharks away but serve as a hurricane wave suppressor.  Kinda like the "Breakwater" we have out here protecting the LA and LB Harbor Areas.  Only it would last forever.  Only downside would be POTENTIAL toxicity of the water!

Happy Friday the 3rd

Sun today and 70s, Looks like a Kool summer will mean another cold winter.

All is well in my train world but no breaking news.  NC might have to build a grits barrier to keep the sharks away.

Hello there (posted this last night but it wasn't here this morning. Thankfully it was still in notepad)

TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!tomorrow is our holiday so today is Friday. Was planning to
work at least one day on a bid that's due Tuesday but it it got delayed. Still
may go in for a few hours and work on billing.

Hope to do some yard work this weekend. The garden is still mud. Plants are in
pots on the patio.

Farming is way behind.I think we had at least a trace of rain about 23 days in June.
This was the 2nd wettest on record here. '72 still holds the record. Hurricane Agnes
parked over us a couple days that year and caused severe flooding.

The 1st cutting hay is way past due.The 2nd cutting we have is really nice but it
needs cut too. Crops are doing well except where it lays wet. they're drowning
there. Dehumidifier is working overtime in the basement. It's to cool to
run AC down there as I'd rather do.

Fife.........that looks like a nice trip but it's wayyyy longer. I'll probably just take the beltway and hope traffic is light on a Sunday afternoon

Ray.........what year is your El Camino? I bought my '70 in '74.

Gonna try to get t sleep.

Prayers for those in need

Good evening all,

Doug in Sandy Eggo, prayers for better days for you.

Gardeners are here today but it seems like they don't have much to mow what with the drought.  I can find other things for them to do if they are looking for work but cutting the grass looks like a short future just now.

Waiting for day to cool off enough to walk a little.  Might fix spaghetti tonight but not much to add to the sauce in the house.

Don, hope you get the truck running like you want.  The A/C went out on my old 87 Buick a long time ago but don't remember having it checked out to see if the compressor is any good.  I should do that.  To hot to drive it otherwise.

My friend Larry and some others went to an estate sale with trains but mostly HO I hear.  Larry got an O scale trolley kit but that's right up his alley.

Got some plywood remnants left over from my paint job/repairs but having a hard time finding a place to store it inside.  Need to make some cuts to get it to fit in the garage out of the way.  It's 3/4" exterior grade I think and heavy to move.  Might use it on the layout someday.  Got one piece eight feet long with a three by four L on one end and a couple of smaller pieces.

Shark attacks in N.C.?  What's the world coming to.  Never heard of so many in such a short time.  Must be something attracting them.  Time to call out Capt. Quinn or whatever that guy's name was in "Jaws"  I think I would learn to walk on water down there.
