Aloha. It's sunnier but cooler today. Took the middle boy out for his first legal drink last night and talked about his next steps in becoming an EMT. Good conversation. The youngest discovered his bearded dragon passed away quietly overnight so I had to take care of that transition before work. He was sad but I'm kind of glad to have one less critter in the house. Yesterday, a controlled prairie burn got out of control a few blocks away and damaged 14 houses. That's going to cost someone... Those are some great photos, Buckeye - and 7K posts - wow! The NFL is setting up some sort of weird Draft Festival a block away. The city apparently agreed to close a bunch of streets at the end of the month for them.

Morning.  Misting rain and chilly.

Buckeye will not show you the real photos.  There is one of him and myself standing in front of the Rogers Corner and I am presenting him with a bag of GRITS.

A few more.

Ohio Box car going into the dumpster at York.

Happy bunch at York [because Buckeye is NOT there].

The GREAT GRITS RAID in Harrisburg PA. [that is above the M&D]

Another Grits Raid in York

Have a good one.

Nice pics, doesn't seem like very long ago does it? I don't have to worry about grits, have a no grits badge to protect me.

Ray -- I made a stop yesterday at my favorite BBQ/Smoking supply store and visited with the owner about your question as to whether you could use your gas grill and smoke ribs.  His reply was yes, if you use a smoke bowl w/wood on the one side of the grill w/heat, place your ribs on the other side of the grill with no heat and smoke (indirect heating) and it will work.  If you try this method be sure and use a good dry rub the night before and leave them wrapped in the fridge, the next day let them come up to room temperature and have your grill at 225, I always use pecan and apple chuncks of wood, stay away from hickory -- too strong.  Cherry chunks also work very well, plan on about 3 hours of smoking, basting ribs the last 30-45 minutes with Dr. Pepper or Root Beer, spraying the ribs. Wish we lived closer, I'd love to help you out.  It's a great hobby.

Good afternoon all,

Buckeye, congratulations on 7000 post.  I enjoy your input and the kidding between you and the Chief.

We had a free day today with no doctor appointments.  Thought about driving to the ocean, about an hour away by freeway but ran out of ambition.  One of these days, I'll do it.

Hot weather heading our way with Santa Ana winds.  No rain in sight.

Jonadel, thanks for the Bar-B-Que info.  It sounds like a real science to get it right.

None of that today but might grill a steak tonight.

later,

Ray

Good evening all,

Congrats Buckeye on 7000 posts!  Nice pictures.  Seminar was educational today.   Traffic has been bad last 2 days.   Arrow is really going off deep end.  Another person killed off and brought back to life, and looks the same will repeat next episode.   That is 3 so far this season.  Kind of ridiculous.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

That is some kinda of accomplishment, 7000 posts!  Unbelievable!  No question about the choice of Buckeye's or Grits!  Even though I've never had one they sure sound great.

Getting closer and closer to finish my painting, Big Smile painted the wrought iron front gate and mail box yesterday.  Was going to start the pool equipment today but made a trip to the VA.  Had to have big toe nail checked out.  All the toes on my right foot were broke from the accident.  The steel toe of the boot folded over on top of them.  Anyway, the nail has been growing out and looked like it is coming off, but also shows signs of possible infection.  Definetely dont want to take any chances so went to the ER.  Really impressed with them!  They put me on some antibiotics, and set me up with a podiatrist, and had me see my regular Dr while I was there.  Was in and out of there in no time.  And they want me to come back in a couple of days.  I am very pleased with them.  So they sent me home and need to soak the foot in epsom saults and keep it elevated for awhile.  Sad  Got too  many things on my agenda list than just sitting around with my foot in the air. But guess I have to do it.

Roy, I didn't mention the breakfast at ROC on Friday, honestly didn't think about it.  But it is probably just as well, trust me.

Found something interesting out, we have a couple of Lazy Boy recliners which have developed some operating issues.  Didn't realize they are under a life time warranty from the manufacturer.  So had them out, both chairs now work great.  Service tech said needed some white grease lubricant put on the operating mechanism every 3-6 months.  No one ever mentioned that before, and I had never given it a thought.

Ray, I think you and Dennis are getting the brunt of the Santa Ana's, I haven't noticed the dryness or much wind.  If any we are just getting the breeze from the ocean that flows up the river channel behind the house.

Think I'll go and indulge in an adult refreshment.  (Baker's)

Take care all!

Don

Hi from a cloudy and cool North Bluff.

Well I worked on my Marx projects for my uncle and got everything done but the crank on the steamer. The post on the drive wheel is broke off and I need to figure out a way to drill out the wheel to put a stud in it or I will need to change the wheel and I don't have a wheel or a wheel puller and press. So not sure what I  will do on that?

Not a lot else going on other than still working on the deck issues but I have that figured out just waiting for things to dry out.

Have a good one.

Don, wow!, I didn't realize that all your does were broken too on that foot.  Maybe you told me but I don't remember.  Seems like I do remember something about a claim against the steel toe boot company.  Hope the foot doctor gets you fixed up.  You've been through too much already.

Fired up my old 87 Buick yesterday and took it out for excercise to charge the battery and make the tires round again.  Still runs good.  Sometimes I think about selling it but don't think it's worth enough to bother.  It only has 90K original owner miles on it and is mechanically sound.  It just needs new tires, rubber boots and a one new shock.  BTW, it is old enough now to acheive antique car status but don't think that will ring anybody's bell.  It needs a paint job also.  Maybe V8 Dennis has some idea what it's worth.  He has restored some older cars.

later,

Ray

 Good afternoon,

Thanks RT but I think what I did will be fine. I drilled out the wheel so a 1/8” split rivet would fit in the hole. Then I put a nylon spacer to raise the rod from the wheel  and keep the glue from going where I did not want it. I glued the rivet into place with Locktite metal epoxy. Looks like it will be as good as the original set up or better.  I replaced the brush plate, brushes, and install the missing smoke stack and drive rod that was missing. I think my uncle will be happy.  Big Smile

Afternoon fellas

I honestly have no idea how I keep sane.

Work has been a nightmare since we were forced to deploy a system wide update that the project team did not feel was fully vetted. Well that was the last weekend in March and here we are 3 weeks later and we are still putting out fires and rolling out updates to address issues. Bang Head x 1,000,000,000 for me. Been a lot of late nights and early mornings. Hoping tonight's update addresses more issues, at least 2 more major bugs that require addressing...

Christina has been complaining about her legs hurting, we thought it was just 'growing pains', well yesterday she fell at daycare and was limping, so we made an emergency pediatrician appointment. Her knee is swollen and she was favoring that leg, so this AM we were at the radiologist for x-rays. She was a trooper and did really good till she had to get on the x-ray table. Then the tears started to flow. Got her calm enough for the first x-ray, then she needed to lay on her side... OMG! The heart strings were pulled to their max 'Daddy!!!!! I'm scared!!!!' being the first time I've heard her express it in such a way! Sad Did my best to keep it together and calm her down and reassure her everything would be OK. After all was said and done, she got her stickers and even smiled and thanked the x-ray tech.

X-Rays are normal, but she still needs to see a pediatric orthopedist...

How do parents survive childhood?????????

Brent went to a websire today in my old stomping grounds and saw you had hit like on it. My parents use to live in the Ephrata area ( brickerville rt 322 & 501 ) from 77 till they passed so Green Dragon was a normal stomping ground for me when it was opened and I was there when I was in the Navy I use to go up like every other week-end except when I was in Indian Head, MD then it was like every weekend

Loved going there and other places up there like weaver chocolates & nuts and others

Good evening all,

Very busy day.  Did almost 30 case reports today.  Listened to anyone and everyone complain (b word) about how I was and was not doing anything right.   Funny how some people will find time to gripe and then turn around and ask you to help them out????   Went to see "The Longest Ride" tonight.   Long and not interesting.  All I could think of during the bull riding scenes was how the guy who built that sport into what it is today tried to do the same thing for Indycar and was only given 2-3 years to do the same for that sport.   If he was still involved, Indycar would be in much better shape than it is today.  If Long Beach is a disaster like St. Pete and NOLA, then it will be a very long season.   Did go for a walk today, and I think shin splints are about gone.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
