Good evening all,

Despite the rain which postponed the soccer games scheduled for today (which I really did not mind as I would have been reffing in driving rain in 30+ degree weather....no fun), this has been an almost perfect day. Local high school basketball team won second straight state title in a row, and Takuma  Sato put AJ's number 14 on the pole for the first Indycar race of the season at St. Petersburg.   The team is sponsored by ABC Supply for the 9th straight year and the race will be broadcast live on ABC starting at 3 PM Eastern time.  I will be camped out for 3 hours while the race unfolds.  Wife and I went to see Noah this afternoon as well.  Definitely does not follow the storyline in the  Bible and has some far-fetched action in the movie..  The acting is good and so are the computer graphics, but I am not sure if there is any audience in particular I could recommend it to.  Still pumped up about #14 on the pole!!!!   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Doug, I used to hear a program on public radio from River Walk with Jim Cullum and his Jazz Band,  I wonder if they have a place there?

Aloha. Back from spending the week in San Antonio. It was the bride's idea to go someplace warm that wasn't too spring-break-y.  It was uncharacteristically cool and cloudy but still 40 degrees warmer than here and a nice friendly town. We did most everything there was to do with the youngest (Alamo, museums, zoo, River Walk), including driving up to visit Austin. People sure were friendly. Hope to reach 50s tomorrow... Congrats on your new grand, Jon! Hope Jeffrey recovers swiftly. Happy belated, DJ and Jon.

Good afternoon, we got another after shock this afternoon but no damage.  Need to check the layout again though.

Don, I saw the article in Trains with a photo of number 41 at Knotts.  Thought about you when I saw it.  How about that engine at Dollywood in Tennessee.  That must be a sister to the one in Skagway, Alaska on the White Pass and Yukon.  I saw it once on a cruise but rode behind the diesels that day. (Bummer)

I thought the chief would tell you but since he didn't.

Jeffrey had a toe amputated a few days ago.

His father reports that he is doing ok.

Good Evening.

Thank goodness everyone is OK there!!

Here we actually got some sun and 46F...enough to go to our local diner for their first of Spring outdoor BBQ's....we ended up with Ribburgers with fried onion sauce....

Now we are back to 30F and drab...going to have some wet flurries again...sigh

Good moring all,

As D. Baker mentioned, we had a good shake here last night about 9:10PM.  It was more like a rolling motion.  I was watching TV and all of a sudden I could see the drapes on my rear sliding glass door doing a sway back and forth.  It seemed to last for a long time.  I had no apparent damage and not even a single figure on the layout was knocked over.  The water in the pool was moving around for a while but did not overflow.  It was centered South of us a few miles so Don probably felt it more than we did.  My new block wall in the rear survived with no cracks either.  They called it a 5.3 on the scale but changed it to 5.1 later.

A little rain predicted for tomorrow and next Tuesday.  We'll take it!

I just talked to one of my train buddies in La Habra where the quake was centered.  He said they had a real bad jolt and that it knocked a lot of glasswear out of the kitchen cabinets and broke on the floor.  Also opened up some drawers in the furniture.

later,

Ray

Morning.  Real warm and raining.  Suppose to get some biggies this afternoon.  Not much on the plate for today.

Got in some ERR kits.  May do some installs in Train Box.  Need to do something there.  Haven't had much time for anything but Town. Bang Head

Shake and Bake.  Glad you are OK.  Would have called soon but was not sure you were moving yet.  Will call in a few.

Hope all are OK.

Good Morning,

Great news Jon, Congrats on the new granddaughter !!

I'm sure everyone has heard about our rolling around last night.  It was a real shaker!  In all the time I have lived here, (since 1961) last nights was the most violent.  Certainly, wasn't the worst for the basin, but given the shallowness, and relative proximity, made it feel more violent here.  (Approx 8 or 9 miles away, and about 2 miles below the surface.)  But, we have NOT sustained ANY damage, and not even anything fallen from a shelf including the train room. Fortunately, it doesn't sound as though anyone has been hurt, but one house in Fullerton has been determined inhabitable, and various water mains have been compromised.

On a brighter side, I have been spending the past couple of days building a train house for Bob.  The one we have been building is a Trainmaster 2 bay house that is 27" long.  He wanted it to be longer so used some pieces I had left over from essentially the same kit I have, which is 34".  (I had found 2 kits for about $35 each, and kitbashed them into the one I have.  I used parts from the 2nd kit and added them in to get the extra length.  With it longer it accomodates the 31" Big Boy and Cab Forward I have.)  We should finish it today.

My other projects the B-29, and light bulb replacement projects have been on hold for the past 3 days.  I've also been doing research on replacing a PS2 board set in a MTH Daylight and the older Polar Express engine with the ER TMCC upgrade kits.  That will work out great!  I have a steam and a diesel boxcars which have Railsounds in them.  (Got them to use with older conventional engines that do not have any sound.  As it turns out I can get the TMCC upgrade for $60 each, which include smoke and directional lights, then just put the boxcars in the train consist, and will have Command Control and sound in both the Daylight and Polar Express trains.  COOL !

Also have a couple of kits that I'm looking forward to build, both are wooden "master crafter" type kits, which have an extreme amount of detail.  One is a gas station/country store, the other a water tank.  So have plenty to keep busy.

Oh yeah,  the current issue of Trains magazine has an article about trains and amusement parks. (pg28).  And they did a real nice article on Knotts with a picture of engine 41.  That's the one I fell from.  As a matter of fact, I was in the engine on the left side the day the picture was taken.  The guys went for a cab ride with us when they were visiting that day.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and remember Stay Healthy !

Big conga's to Jon & Sharyl on the new Granddaughter ! Don't know which is the greater blessing, children or grand children. Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Thanks to everyone for the good wishes of our newest grandchild, it's been great fun since Thursday simply watching her and her parents.  This is #4,  a girl and boy for each of our two sons and I'm pretty sure this is the end as both of our sons/wives are in the mid and upper 30's.  We are all blessed to be sure.

We enjoyed raising our children (most of the time) but this grandparent thing is awesome, yes we spoil them when we can but we don't have to deal with the daily maintenance Smile, Wink & Grin or needs and we can go home at the end of the visit.  I do wish we lived closer to MPLS so we could visit here more often, our oldest son lives about two hours from us and that work out perfectly.

I think all of you would be amazed at the amount of snow still on the ground here!  Lakes and rivers still frozen hard, they've had one of their worst winters on record and are VERY anxious for spring to arrive.  When we head home tomorrow it will be the warmest day of the year here, 54 and they are just giddy :)

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

We took advantage of today's beautiful weather.  I took the older son and a couple of other boys over to the baseball field to have some unofficial practice.  Afterwards, the wife and I did some spring cleaning.  I grilled pork chops for dinner, and the wife roasted some sweet potatoes and vegetables for sides.  We are relaxing now.

I hope you all have a great Saturday.

Good evening all,

Congrats to Jon on granddaughter!!!   This is a good day on the pot as the Chief got rid of a nuisance as well.  Brought home the 384 E and it runs like a champ.  Have not tested the Marx yet.  Best news was Sato setting quick time the first day of practice for AJ.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

V8 Dennis, sounds like you are getting hit hard with dental bills.  I know the feeling.  I went in for a cleaning recently and somehow a crown on my right front incisor got knocked off.  The dentist has patched it three times now but it only last for a few months.  He says I will probably have to get a new crown.  I just shelled out a lot of cash to help my sister get a new set of dentures which she is still not accustomed to yet.  Still has pain.  I need hearing aids too but have to put that on hold for a while.

We had a meeting of our former Thursday Night gang yesterday with 5 of us.  Had lunch first then came over to my layout to run trains and show of some newly aquired engines that a couple of the guys had.  One was a Milwaukee Road SD40 that was custom painted (MTH) and the other  was an SW1 switcher, also MTH and custom painted.  Both were proto 1 and ran great.  We ran a 5 unit consist with 3 powered and two dummy units pulling 20 cars including about 8 Lionel piggy back cars with 40 foot trailers.  No problem but did not want to push my luck with more cars and string line them on the curves.

Swimming pool seems in good shape now.  Ready for the season.

Chief, condolences for having a goofy next door neighbor.  We had one in our neighborhood once that rented out the garage to a couple of young guys who started up a meth lab in it.  Got suspicious when there was a constant parade of buyers coming to their place.  Cops were suspicious too and busted them after staking out the place.  Place was eventually sold and now we have good neighbors.  Another old timer on our block passed away recently and the house was just sold.  Really went fast so must not have had to have probate.  Now I think I'm the only old timer left on the block.

later,

Ray

I have mentioned my lazy neighbor next door several times.  Always trying to get rich quick without working [not Grady the black guy who helps me].  Well guess what?  He runs a shop up town called PUFFS.  Yes, drug pipes and etc.  LE has been watching for months.  Just busted his shop.  Girls working there had drugs on them.  Also selling Trade Mark violation things [he was busted several years ago for selling bootleg CD's in NC and VA].  Hit his house [usually he is at the shop but was not], could smell drugs but only found pills in bottles with no prescription labels.  Probably flushed some stuff before they got in.  He is the quest of our County Sheriff tonight.  He has always been a shyster.  My Dad had a saying that I now use.  "He would starve to death working in a pie factory."

And that is the news from Roseyville.

Afternoon all.  Cloudy and real warm.  Been in meeting all morning.  Then lunch meeting.  Both unscheduled.  Went to meeting at 7 AM yesterday and then immediately west to powder/ammo distributors.  Back late yesterday afternoon.  Home for a bite and then went to sleep around 6:30.  Got up at 5 this morning.  I "died".

Wifey said something about two firemen in Boston getting killed in a fire. ????  Prayers for their families.  Thought Rick or John would have said something.

Congrats Jon on the new Granddaughter. Thumbs Up

Hello all

Fairly quiet night on the mountain. Some of our guests have gone back to town so things are a bit calmer.

Jon - congrats on the family addition. Something to blow your horn about as Chief would sayStick out tongue

Took apart and cleaned and lubed an old Westclox chime clock. Managed to get all the little shafts and gears back in the right place. Is keeping good time now. Chimes once on the half hour and counts off the hour. Has been keeping us entertained.

And the AF runs again! We have foward, reverse, neutral, lights, smoke, and chuff! This belongs to our director which she got from her uncle. Basically needed a good cleaning and trip to the lube rack, plus the fingers on the reversing unit replaced. I also fabricated another headlight bracket.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

The weather turned warm and sunny again today.  Fortunately I did not have to spend the entire day inside; I spent a couple hours at the firing range this afternoon.  We are enjoying a relaxing night at home tonight, which includes some Thomas videos for the youngest child – and me.

Kevin – I’m looking forward to seeing the photos and transformation.

Congratulations on the latest arrival Jon!

Well, it was much to warm in central Iowa so we made our way north this morning to cool off and meet our new granddaughter!  She decided to make her debut last night at 12:23 AM, just a few days over her due date.  She is perfect in every respect and we feel truly blessed, once again.  Now if I can just find a pink train ..........

Good evening all,

Cold, wet and windy today.  Miserable.  Very quiet day at work.  Played Farkel with the "saucy wench", who has worked 3 days this week subbing.   Going to Train Express tomorrow to pick up old Marx engine and the Classics 384E and drop off Classics 318E.   Soon I will have all repaired.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,
