Good Afternoon! 36 and the Sun is out. The snow is Melting!
Nothing much to report except that Doray pushed herself on her own and went a bit backwards. Also her left leg muscles have to be stretched more so she will have to wear a brace when she is relaxing. Doing some PW engine repairs and reconditions. Giving my Hobby Horse Press a good work out.
Brent: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Fife: My son decided during his Spring Break he is taking an 80 Hour NJ State Police Haz Mat Course. He already has the 40 hr but this will help him with a job. His score is supposed to come out soon.
Traindood: Are you making it to York?
I see there are many with problems and ailments. I wish everyone a Speedy and Complete Recovery.
Enjoy the Day!
John
Mornin All.
Re: Noise from rolling stock. On all my box cars before they hit the rails I pull them off the chassis, secure the doors from opening and stuff them with poly batting. You would be amazed at how much quieter they are. I do much the same with the coal hoppers(plastic coal loads) and any gons that have a load in them that doesn't fill them completely.
As far as the Fastrack noise, if expense was no consideration, I would fill the void with the rubber type product that is used for making plastic castings. Had a brain fart and can't remember what it is called. Worked with it in some small amounts when I couldn't find some repair parts for a "G" gauge Circus Train.
Time for some breakfast & morning pills.
Later all.

Good job Chuck! Last week my laptop had a hiccup AND a burp, oh the trauma! Glad I had my iPad as a back up so I didn't have to beg my wife to use her laptop, that would have turned ugly quickly.
We are at full stand by and ready to roll as grand child #4 is scheduled to arrive any day! Grammie is keeping close track of the forecasts as its 240 miles to the delivery point, whoa be upon me if the roads would turn slick, YIKES. The bags are packed and the new hand made quilt is beautifully wrapped, let's roll!
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Morning all. Icy. They missed the forecast. Slick bridges have cause problems. Roads OK. Schools were delayed and now canceled. Warming.
Being lazy this AM.
Ray, I pay extra [quarterly] what you are paying and heave extra taken out of retirement and SS. I think retirees are supporting the nation.
Have a good one.

Aloha. Sunnier day today but still not spring. Don, the MOB (mother of the bride) is very excited. I hope to lie low and just sign checks. Great job on Bob's engine. Not so good news about his daughter. I hope that works out. MikeC, I will remember to ask my daughter if she's sure she wants to go through with it Brent, that Lego Millenium Falcom is a keeper! Those are some interesting experiments. I also would add as speed increases, so does the noise - I personally enjoy the roar.

Mornin' FellasCongrats to DougM's Daughter! That makes it two weddings for Pot Members in a month!Joe & Kevin - There is a lot that comes into play with noise levels: flooring, wall material, ceiling material, how is the layout framing done, do you using plywood (thickness), do you use a sound deadening material, how is it finished, etc, etc, etc.My train room is carpeted, but has drywall ceiling and walls. The layout is 1x4 pine mortised into 4x4 posts, over that is 1/2 inch plywood and on top of that is 1/2 inch ceiling tiles. During design I had a bunch of FasTrack and when I put the track down on the plywood (no screws) and ran trains it was quite loud (I have no means of measuring decibels other than my ears), when I out the track on ceiling tiles the noise was noticeably softer. Screwing the track do the ceiling tile lessened the noise level - but not much. One thing I thought of is the plastic roadbed is hollow there-by creating a 'drum effect' as the train rolled across the rails. I cut sections of carpet padding down to fit inside the 'void', this softened the noise even more...Now for the interesting test...I ran just an engine (no sound on) and there was hardly any track noise. I then added a few boxcars and the noise got louder. Replaced the boxcars with gondolas and open hoppers - not as much noise. Replaced the gondolas and open hoppers with passenger cars - noise was louder than with boxcars. And it doesn't matter if you use FasTrack, Atlas, Gargraves, MTH, or tubular. The majority of the noise you hear is the car wheels and the vibration INSIDE the car - not the track! The heavier the car, the lower the noise, the smaller the 'void' inside the car, the lower the noise.
I have run numerous tests on the main layout that now uses Atlas 21st Century Track on top of Woodland Scenic foam roadbed on top of the ceiling tiles. It gets noisy running 4 trains. At Christmas time I have been putting a small circular layout under our tree in our sunroom (with tile floor). Engines only and the noise is not bad... and ANY cars to the consist and the noise is insane! This is made of 1 x 4 and 1 x 6 pine and 1/2 inch plywood - no ceiling tiles. FasTrack screwed directly to the plywood. I will be redoing the layout this year so I can add a loop of O72 for my NPC Zephyr. That will done with 1 x 4 pine and 1/2 inch plywood and I will be putting ceiling tiles down then the track. I am also thinking of getting some Styrofoam to fill the void under the plywood. I'm not confident that I will be able to lower the noise that much.
good morning all My computer has failed. I am using my wife's. It is not opening up the forum properly. All is well otherwise. You guys have a great Tuesday, Chuck
Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,
It was another warm day today and it definitely topped out in the mid-60s. I went to work early this morning so I skipped out on the morning workout. The wife and took a brief walk before dinner so that was nice. It’s time to relax now. I’m glad our California crew survived the earthquake.
Chuck – The “field” probably was not the parts of Germany you wanted to see so much of.
Doug M. – Congratulations on your daughter’s engagement!
Kevin – I had no issues with FasTrack as I screwed it into the foam. If you glue the Homasote to the plywood and screw the track only to the Homasote you will be fine. When you screw track all the way into the plywood it causes the track noise to transfer all the way through making it much louder. Brent also can comment on this. I like FasTrack but it was too noisy for me (even screwed into the pink foam) so I am slowly changing it out. Here are three hitting videos to get you started. The fence drill is great because your son can do it on his own and it really helps develop bat speed.

Good night all. Got some frozen stuff on the trees. Nothing on highways. Had to drive home from western Wake Co. and all AOK.
Was a long day. Going to bed.

Sleep tight.
Good evening all,
Congrats to Doug M on daughter's engagement. When I walked each of the girls down the aisle, I asked them if they really wanted to do this as they could still back out at that point. They both said yes. Quiet day at work. Watched "Dancing with the Stars". Had to see Winnie (Danica McKellar). She did a good job as did Drew Carey. Some others were good, but I think Billy Dee Williams was a bit out of his league. Happy St. Patrick's Day!! I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Happy St. Patrick's Day !!!

Doug -- you have a good attitude re: 4.4, I like it
Afternoon All.
Dave, for your hospital visit. See ya back here real soon.
DougM, Sounds like that young man is a real keeper.
Friday the DCS gremlins were out-n-about in full force, . Made for a very long and crabby day. Glad I brought along some TMCC as well. The munchkin was here Saturday nite so gramps was up early Sunday to make Bacon Waffles.
Wow the difference a day makes, Sunday afternoon my wireless thermometer was reading 97* and today it's only 82*.
Got more inventory work done this morning on the club layout. Trying to stay ahead of the folks referbing and lighting the buildings.
Blood pressure and weight have gone above what they are supposed to be for me, think I over-indulged in salty food for about five days. Back to the rabbit food.
p.s. _ A 4.4, they ain't much more than a good foot massage.
Earthquake! What earthquake? When did this happen? I must have slept through the whole thing. Didn't notice any damage in train room.
Top of the mornin to all ye Irish doods out there. My wife is Irish and that makes the kids half Irish but today we are all Irish. Only green I had lately was in the swimming pool. It's clearing up now finally. Living better through chemistry as they say.
Don, good job on finding Bob's engine problems. That MTH engine I have with the stripped worm gear is now in the hands of TTOS Southwestern president and repair guru who may or may not be able to fix it in time. Anyway, I'm comfortable with that. It was no good as is.
later,
Ray
SPMan
Good Morning!
Yep, survived the earthquake, only 4.4 no problem. Since morning news was on at the time, I'm sure national news will be replaying the reaction of the local newscasters during the quake. (Got to make news).
Watched the Nascar race last night, in ALL my 40-50 years watching races I've never seen or heard of a flagman accidentally leaning against a switch, turning the Yellow Lights On! And, with only three laps to go?!!! Unbelievable !!!! While they were trying to figure out why the lights came on, then it started raining, incredible ending of race!!
Congrats Doug !!!! That is fantastic!!! How's Mom taking the news?
Worked awhile on Bob's engines yesterday, got 2 of them working again. He now has a Challenger that operates intermittently. Think I will check some obvious things, (Factory Reset, Battery, Pick-up Rollers) then have him take it to a repair shop. I dont want to assume responsibility for taking it apart. (MTH unit).
(Bob, told me Friday afternoon that his 19 yr old daughter, announced that she was going to get married in two weeks, I'm rather sure it is not a joyous event. She is trying desperately to get out of their house I'm sure.)
Hope Dave Barker's procedure goes well today!
Dont have a lot of plans for the day, Kay's going to go grocery shopping, Chris is at WORK (cool), so maybe I will work on some of my kits.
So take care and stay healthy !!!
Don
Mornin' FellasHad a very enjoyable weekend with the family. The new garage doors were installed on Friday (look awesome), then TheQ and I headed out to do some errands without the kiddos (stopped by Lowes for a new toilet for the Master Bathroom). Got home and unloaded the car, then went to get the kiddos from daycare and pickup pizza for dinner. Saturday morning I got up and installed the toilet (Christina claims I broke it and therefore needed to replace it) , then my FiL came over so we could all go out for dinner to my favorite German Restaurant in Hagerstown, MD. Had a VERY enjoyable time. When we got home the new whole house water filter was in, but we didn't feel like running out to get the parts to install it.Yesterday we got up and headed out to Toys-R-Us so I could pick out my birthday gift... got the Lego Millennium Falcon!!! And stopped at Home Despot to pickup the shark bite connectors to install the filter. It was then off to home (or so we thought)... see Sunday Photo Fun for details (and yes I fixed the text so it looks correct). When I got home I installed the filter... NO LEAKS!Got up this morning to a lovely coating of 6 inches of snow! Drove to work only to find I am the only one here and the office is closed... not going home just yet as I'm getting some work done as I am not being interrupted every 5 minutes!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill............
Good Morning, Joe...... Yes, that was a nice location. I saw a lot of Germany, as we were in the "field" a lot.
It is a cloudy 34 degrees. Going up to 47 today with some sunshine.
Today is a busy day. Grocery shopping and chores will take the entire morning. Then, lunch and a nice nap..
Cheerios on the dining car for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Monday.
Morning. Getting ready for a long day. Cold rain. No frozen stuff like the CBS national weather folks are saying. Some close to VA boarder but nothing major.
Sounds like fifepup is serious to drive to CT. Oh man!!!
Mornin' boys. Mornin' English. Not seeing any green in the Mid-Atlantic region, just SNOhizo. Spent weekend holding my breath, as fifepup took his first solo out of state drive to Connecticut to see his girlfriend. Made it home safe, and that's all I've got to say about that.
