Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

Today’s high temperature hit the mid-50s and it rained off and on.  The workday was mostly productive and I completed a good amount of paperwork.  The wife is enjoying some karaoke tonight with the neighborhood ladies so the kids and I are hanging out.  I do need to take care of some reading this evening.

Happy Birthday DJ and Kooljock!

Joe

Hello all

Back on the hill. Still like a motel up here w/ all the people. Closed for high winds right now. Was a somewhat entertaining drive up.

Banks - did they stent you or just do the angioplasty? Take those stairs slow and stay off the tractor clutches:)

Chief - we used to have our Corvair club meets at a local Golden Corral. My buddy called it the 'trough':)

Got an estimate on the headliner for the 4dr. $325 including materials. May be in the near future, but there's still a few more things the van needs. One more small lot of parts to the powdercoater, alt and starter rebuilt, fuel pump, and battery and prob a small host of little things. Oh, I might want to cover the bench seat w/ some kind of foam padding and cover like materialStick out tongue

Nothing new on the train front. Got the bulbs in for the Marx 666. Have a few models to work on and a pair of carbs to rebuild in my spare time however.

Not much interested in the new Lionel catalog, but I would like to find a Williams 4-6-0 in ATSF markings. Reminds me a lot of the #40 on the Nevada Northern. The 0-8-0 I have is close enough to the #93 which is a Consolidation.

Warmer and quite windy today. My wife had a 1935 Lionel catalog laying on the coffee table when I got home today. Interesting stuff. There was a section listing Lionel Jr. products - the fore runner of the 027 line of products. I think that these were re-branded Ives items. The one set that caught my eye was the 1065E streamliner - part of the Jr. line. Consists of a 1700E power car, a 1071 coach, and a 1702 observation car. I have not really been into prewar Lionel, but I think I'll start shopping for one of these. All for now.

Good evening all,

A quiet day at work.  Still cold but at least it was sunny.   Watched Arrow tonight.  Thank you all for the support and well wishes.   Been an interesting few days to say the least.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Thanks Frank for doing those video's!  Homelessness and being hungry when you go to bed sucks, I would hope that your video's will touch many hearts.  Perhaps you could get the Golden Corral to sponsor a few families and forego the Mayor's free meals?  That would be a win-win for everyone Smile, Wink & Grin

We are almost there!!!!  New grand daughter is a bit over due and will be here Friday, no matter what Thumbs Up  Every time my phone rings Sharyl jumps about 9' vertically, thank goodness our youngest son called her phone this afternoon, life is good and we are truly blessed in so many ways.

Afternoon all.  Sunny and chilly.  Been doing Mayor's show videos.  High School one on kids with no food and homeless kids.  Trying to get donations.  Then the new ACE hardware.  Ended at Golden Corral for a ribbon cutting and free meal.  Why Mayors can't lose weight. Whistling

Now off to DMV to get duplicate license.  They have just figured out how to put VETERAN designation on drivers license.

Have a good one.

V8Vega

I was reading last night about a 89 to 91Honda CB-1 good looking 400 cc sportbike transverse four with a 13,500 redline.

If I was younger I would be looking for one, as it seems impossible for me to not race around I'd probably kill myself.

That bike needs to come with an air bag, it's a rocket ship!  There are some "very fast" bikes on the market right now and mechanically they are far superior to what used to be "fast".   I think back to my KZ 1000 of the 80's and I thought that thing was fast (and it was) but today's bikes are even faster and better.  I'll stick to my Gold Wing 1800 -- 6 cylinders and extremely fast and comfortable :)

Good morning all,

Re car keys and ignitions etc., I have never had this kind of problem in over 60 years of driving.  However, I don't keep many other keys on my car key ring.  When I worked for the railroad, I kept all those keys on a separate ring and another one for stuff around the house which I kept at home.

We got a little sprinkle here over night but we will take anything we can get.  A huge pine tree across the street from me has died.  I thought it was from drought but it turns out to be from a bark beattle invasion.  I have lost about three trees like that in the past.  Neighbor is debating how to get rid of the big pine tree.  Technically it sits on the easement that the city reserves for a sidewalk if they ever put one in so maybe they will pay or maybe not.  He has to find out.  At any rate it looks like a big job.  This thing is really big.

I think I have finally got enough chlorine residual in the pool now.  Test this morning showed I still have some in the pool.  Went to pool store yesterday and they didn't have a clue why it was taking so much on start up.  I got more information from a pool service guy in the parking lot while there who overheard me talking to the store guy.  He says that our city puts a small amount of amonia in the city water so it takes more chlorine to overcome that in order to establish a residual so that it does not just disappear in one day.

later,

Ray

Hello there

Stuck at home today. Not allowed to drive or do steps due to yesterday's heart cath. The results were better than I'd hoped for, I have two arteries that are 20% blocked. The game plan is diet exercise and medication. I had been trying to exercise some but that made me feel poorly enough to stop. The downward cycle fell off a cliff and I packed on over 25 pounds the last several months so I've got to get back at it.

That was some mud slide. They'll probably never find all the victimsAngel

Mrs & I decided to buy the camper in Richmond Indiana. We'll be traveling I-70 this weekend. Hope we're not disappointed when we get there.

8N.....I was wondering what the issue was with those. That sounds like very poor design work.

Where's Laz..........

More calls about work

Prayers for those in need

cheapclassics - outstanding news.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Cold, blustery, with a thin layer of SNOHIZO in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Where is Spring indeed...  I'm in need of a haircut too, but don't want to give up the extra "insulation".

Finally located the short on one of my mainlines, within a hand throw switch mechanism.  We are all up to speed again, and finally mounted the bathroom sink under the Lionel rotary coal dumper. An old bucket, positioned underneath, catches the black "rabbit droppings".  Grandson will be stoked when he visits tomorrow.

As for the newest Lionel catalog, Yowza, $2700 for a Big Boy.  I can build a whole layout for that sum.  What happens when the electronics goes up in a Vision line that, or Legacy this...?  Not a whole lot grabbed me in this edition, but still fun to look at.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It was another spring-like day here today: warm weather and sunshine.  Last night I scanned the Lionel catalogs and I was greatly pleased with the offerings.  While there are some items currently out of my price level, I believe there are enough items within reach.  The few that fully caught my eye were the Batman subway cars, the US President cars, and the MLB cars, specifically the Yankees.

Mike C. – I’m glad to hear your results were negative; that is terrific news.

Hello all

Nice day here. Clouded up and cooled off a bit, but glad I didn't wash the car. Rained just enough to get it even dirtier.

Mike - good news

8N - interesting about the ignition switch. Most AF's can run on AC I believe. There are a few denoted as AC or DC that are particular.  The flyer guys here can fill you in on that.

Don - nice finds there!

The only Lionel items I've bought new (and they were probably older stock anyway) were the docksider and the trolley. That's about all I can afford. I think the 0-8-0 was new as well, but it didn't come w/ a box. I guess it depends what you want to focus on. I certainly dropped enough cash to buy a Legacy loco on big purchases for the car at times.

Regarding that, the 4dr did something funny to me today. Leaving an appt. I saw that it had not made a drip:) (they keep a clean parking lot there). I guess the tranny governor O-ring helped. Yes, there is fluid in it:)

Back to work tomorrow after dropping off the taxes and picking up Clawde some new 'roomates'.

Sunny and cold here today.  Supposed to warm up in the next few days.

Hudson 685 - my wife had to have her knee 'manipulated' after her knee replacement.  Was scar tissue.  They knocked her out, manually bent her knee and took a picture to show her when she woke up that it really will bend that far.  Didn't take long, and her recovery proceeded nicely after that.  Hope your wife's does too.

SPMan - Just went through the same 'discussion' with my wife about the accountant and tax preperation.  I agree with you - throw the stuff in the envelope and let the people who you are paying sort it all out.

My Cobalt is on GM's recall list for the ignition switch.  I did a little research today and found out that in many of the fatal accidents, the car's black box event recorder indicated that the ignition switch was in the Accessory position.  When in the assessory position, the engine gets shut off and none of the safety systems like anti-lock brakes or air bags are active.  Of course with no engine, there are no power steering or power brakes either.  One theory is that if there is a gob of other keys hanging off of the ignition key, bumps or impacts will cause the key to be turned from run to accessory.

The dealer told me that the service bulletin says I am to not have any other key on the key chain than the ignition key until my ignition switch is replaced.  Just for grins, when I pulled into my driveway, I tugged on the key fob with two fingers.  Sure enough, the key turned from on to accessory.  I'm guessing that the spring detents for each switch position are too weak.  This applies to the Cobalt cousins that the other GM divisions built too.

On the other hand, if the accessory switch position was still on the other side of the lock position, as it was yeasr ago, this problem would not exist.  Wonder if the new ignition switch will be set up that way?

The LHS has a bunch of used pre and post war Lionel and American Flyer items come in.  The Lionel items are clamshell coupler type pre-war items and late 40's to late 50's post war items.  There is a 225E in pieces, several baby Hudsons and a long stripe N&W tender that makes me think that there will be a J class surfacing somewhere.  The American flyer stuff includes a good selection of rolling stock, and several locomotives, the star of which is a 4-8-4.  Decisions, decisions.  I'll want to take a look at the new Lionel catalogs before I commit my train budget.  I'm not sure that I really want to get into American Flyer stuff at this time, though.

By the way - do American Flyers run on AC ore DC?  Can't really by looking at the locomotives, as they all have universal type motors.

All for now.

Good evening all,

And it is a good day.   The tests I had done Monday were for testicular cancer and they came back negative, which is very good news.   I do have some other minor issues that need to be addressed, but the good news is that I can get back to living again.   Wife and I celebrated tonight with pizza.  Work went well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' Fellas

Had a good talk with TheQ last night, nice to sit down and have an intellectual talk with the misses every now and again. Seems we still view most of life the same. Thumbs Up Love that woman more and more every day I know her.

Not much going on these days. Have to look at the Lionel Catalogs again... the C&O E8s really have my attention especially with the passenger cars (I have always loved the C&O Blue Passenger setup)... just need to see if I can swing it $$$ wise.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

I started the day off with an easy 3-mile run and then some weight training.  Today’s high hit the low-70s and it was sunny (sorry SJ).  The downside to this warm weather is being stuck inside the office all day.  The boys and I finished some leftovers for dinner while the wife and princess had a girls’ night out for dinner.  I’m looking forward to perusing the new Lionel catalogs this evening; I’ll hold my comments on the prices until I review the catalogs.

David Barker – I’m hoping the best for you.

SP Ray – I hope you are feeling better.

Sayonara,

Joe
