It's late here.  Haven't looked at  the pot all day.  Got some sad news this morning that our friend from church passed away.  We saw her last Sunday and she was already in a coma then.  Funeral is this coming Monday.  Will try to give support to her husband.  She suffered for a long time.  Her passing is a blessing to her and her family.  She's in a better place now.

Chief, congratulations on the new high school.  Will try to look at your link tomorrow.

Good night all,

Ray

Nice day here today.  About 80 with low humidity.  The rain passed south of us last night, so I had to water the herbs and veggies tonight.  Probably will have to mow the lawn tomorrow night, too.

I reached a deal on the used postwar stuff that came into the LHS recently.  Got a ZW, a KW, 2 #364 log loaders and a 3656 stock yard for a reasonable price.  All of it is pretty dirty and will need work.  I opened up the ZW tonight and discovered that it is reasonably clean on the inside.  The biggest problems appear to be the dirty case and a missing power cord.  The primary winding does not show continuity with anything on the secondary side, and the insulation on the variable secondary winding checks out OK.  This being my first ZW, I've got to ask where the power cord exits the case - there is a hole in the bottom case near the A, B, C, D, and U terminals.  I assume this is where the cord should exit.  Should there be a grommet there, or just a UL knot in the cord for strain relief?

All for now.

Good Evening !

I did one better than Jack, last night I did a post, I thought it was pretty good, spent 2 hours preparing it then fell asleep with the computer in my lap.  Woke up at 2:30, closed the cover and lost it!  Didn't hit the post button! Devil

Interesting news around here again.  Forrest Lawn is a large cemetery about 3 miles from here.  A young mother and her 2 yr old daughter were visiting a grave site, and a Coyote grabbed the girl by the back and started to drag her off to the bushes. Thankfully the mother was able to scare the Coyote forcing it to release the girl.  She is in a local hospital undergoing rabies treatment.  Animal services came out and were able to kill 3 Coyotes in or around the cemetery. Of course they are native to the area, but still manage to find places to live.  The cemetery adjoins the same "concrete river channel" as I do.  I haven't seen a Coyote in a couple of years, however will see a Red Tail Fox, Hawks, Possum and wide selection of other birds. Sure fortunate the child will be OK, eventually.

Had yesterday and today off work.  Yesterday built an enclosure for the a/c unit in the inlaws backyard.  Then went to see the Lone Ranger movie with Kay.  That was really and entertaining movie!!  Especially, if you enjoy westerns, trains, and satire.  The audience were actually laughing out loud!  I hope it ends up winning some kind of award.  (I am trying to hurry up and do this before I fall asleep, so don't have things organized in the correct priority or sequence.)

Chris rented a Chevy Spark on Sunday, and drove from Kalamazoo MI, to Rockford Ill, to visit my last living Aunt.  The car didn't cost much and included unlimited mileage, it ONLY had an 8 gallon tank!  Apparently, he was getting around 40mpg.  The good news he made it there and back.  If he would have run into a good sized butterfly I think he and the car may have been done in.  But, they had time for a meal, some visiting.  She ended up sending him back with 5 Bibles, which had been family Bibles for various relatives, a bunch of pictures, and great memories.  He had asked me for the address of the house I use to live in, and went by there.  Saw a guy working in the yard and stopped and talked with him.  Shared history that he was aware of..

Chief, That is really remarkable what you were able to accomplish with the High School!!  You've done us proud!  (Got that package off today with all the stuff you forgot.  Tried to sell it, but couldn't give it away.  And, the neighbors were beginning to complain.

Mike C,  I have gone to a Formula I race at Fontana.  Had great seats in the infield just over pit road, in one of the suites.  But, it wasn't Indy!!  Still a dream.

SJ, Dont worry about the BLT's, I couldn't stand in the way of a man and a  BLT!  Just envious!  Enjoy! But not too much.

Ray, Make sure you pass on to Larry how great it is he won that trip.  Wow, what I wouldn't give to do that!  BTW, when Frank and I went out to Fairplex and saw Bigboy 4014, they told me the plan was to move it in October.  They are going to put down some temporary track to connect it up to Metrolink's Line, then tow it out to Colton, and redo the bearings.  Then tow it to Cheyenne for rebuild.  Expected completion in 2019, budget $6M.  I guess they are still negotiating what they will put in Fairplex in pace of it.

Dennis,  Glad your car didn't get damaged anymore than it did.

Jack,  Notice a series of short posts, you are not trying to outfox the system are you.  Or do you have that many interruptions going on.  So far I've almost lost this one 3 times already.

Doug M,  Sure sounds like you guys had a great trip. More great memories, thank God we have them!

I think I better quit while I'm ahead.  Gotta be up early.

So hope you all stay well, and prayers for those in need!

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Good night for soccer (any night is a good night for soccer, but this was really nice, weather wise).  We won 2-1 despite my atrocious play.   Work went well for once.  Been running my HO (can I say that word) CB&Q train.  I have some old Plasticville I may use with it to have a nice small layout.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Aloha. Back from five days in the Upper Peninsula with my youngest. Had a good trip up and back and the weather there was very nice - 60s during the day, 40s at night - kept down the bugs. It gradually warmed enough too to dare to go swimming in the river. Climbed, rappelled, swan, canoed -- and now am pretty tired. Fortunate to be able to do this for the past 15 years with each kid. They seem to stay the same but I get older. Dang it.  Big Smile

RAY SP......since your neighbor doesn't mind wasting water by flooding your property more than once, why not help him out?  Top off your pool and hook up your sprinklers to his spigots and water the rest of your lawn and gardens.......from midnight to 4AM for a few weeks.  I can assure you when he gets his next water bill he will sit up and take notice of what, where, and how much he is watering.  :-)   JACK.

We have a sunny 61 but with a north wind this morning.

A very long downpour of rain yesterday probably destroyed the weed part of Weed & feed I put down the day before. I'm sure the feed part will like it though. My cousin and wife should be here soon and I'm sure we will find something to do today. Train news: Lionel has announced that their high end engines will be produced in numbers ordered only. Which means if you don't preorder you may not find something you wish you had ordered. OR end up paying a higher price for the ones available.

Morning all.  Not much and agenda today.  Probably mow here, pick garden and spray Ranger for trimming.  Got early Human Services Board meeting tomorrow and then go to lake house to mow.  Hope to get some "Box" time today.

Have a good one.

PS: forgot to mention.  Yesterday was National Hot Dog day.  Ate three last night at 9 [since had not eaten since a noon snack at ribbon cutting].  Mustard, chili [hot dog type which means no beans] and onions.  MMMMM good. Cool

Mornin' Fellas

Had a really nice time last night, went out to 'Happy Hour' with a group from work and met up with an ex-co-worker that we haven't seen in over a year. It was awesome catching up and seeing everyone outside of work.

Jack - thank you for the 'well-wishes' TheQ thanks you too, since I was not home to enjoy said diapers. Smile When I was carrying Christina to bed last night she woke up just long enough to look at me, smile, and say "Hi Daddy", then off to sleep again. This morning when she woke up I got a hug, kiss, "I missed you" and an "I love you Daddy". Thumbs UpThumbs Up That little girl really knows how to get to me. Whistling

Received shipping notices on a number of the items I ordered for the control panel, laptop upgrade, and the sort. All due to arrive by Friday, next Tuesday at the latest... we'll see.

Konbanwa,

The past two days have been a bit busy for me and I haven’t had time to post.  It has been raining off and on since last night which only causes the humidity to rise and make the hot temperatures more uncomfortable.  Thankfully, the majority of my time is spent indoors.  We had spaghetti carbonara for dinner tonight and have no other plans.

Dennis – I’m sorry your WSJ experience wasn’t better.  I switched to the digital version early last year and greatly enjoy it.

SP Ray – Amen to that!  I’m glad your sister is doing so well and using her experience to help others.  I hope your friend’s situation improves.

Joe

Good evening all,

It is still muggy in SE Indiana.  A quiet evening at home turned more work than I planned as I decided to transplant 4 small redbuds.  Ground was much harder and dryer than I thought it would be.  Got them moved, now to see if they survive.  Work was ok.  Dbaker48, the movie is as close to the real thing as you can get in an animated flick.   For real Indycar action, check out the Fontana race in your neck of the woods.  That will be in the fall so it should not be so hot.  Wife's sister had a serious operation today, but is in recovery and doing ok.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Jack, thank you for the prayers for my kin.  We can use them.  As for the neighbor problems, I have simmered down a little.  Kind of got used to the Blimp hanger.  Bigger problem lately is that he lets his garden hose run too long along the fence thereby flooding my driveway and patio, gutters and side of my garage.  I spoke to him once about it.  Tried to be diplomatic and just suggested that he was losing over half the water on my side.  Today the water was pouring over again so I went over and not seeing him, turned the water off myself.  I hope he got the message.  I am trying to dig a small dry well next to my garage to catch some of his run off and will help me too when it rains.  I didn't know when I was well off concerning the guy behind me with the new block wall.  He put up a new tool shed next to the fence but it is well built and not an eye sore.  In the big scheme of things, both neighbors are not bad people.  It could be a lot worse and maybe I shouldn't complain.  I just think the older I get the more I hate changes.

Took a look at the Chief's Rolesville website and looked at some of the Mayors segments.  Very well done Chief.  Good job on playing the DUI arrest.  Rolesville seems like an up and coming community unlike what we here from Buckeye et al. in jest.  I was impressed with the size of your new High School.  Looks good!

Got to get my act together now and start planning what's for dinner in case I need to go to the store.  Got my hose caddy fixed today with a new leader hose so that's one little chore done.  Ran trains a little this morning.  Still haven't worn the newness off of my Southern Railway F units.. Seems like that's all I want to run right now.  I guess that's true with each new aquistion.

Looking forward to my friend Larry's report on the 844 train trip from Denver to Cheyenne.

Later,

Ray

SP RAY.........wanted you to know that I have your sisters in my prayers as well as your friends from your church.  I also hope that the neck brace does some magic for your better half and that the dirigible hanger your neighbor put in next to you isn't an eyesore for you.  Between that neighbor behind you and the guy next door, you have had more than your share of grief and aggravation.  JACK.

After getting my scripts yesterday I came home and cut the grass. But boy I goofed in the spring, we were out  digging up crab grass as I did not put preventer on it this year and it seems to laugh at my attempts to kill it. Afternoon.  ROLESVILLE High School ribbon cutting was this AM.  Just got back.  What a great event.  Big crowd.  Hot and humid.  Back to the HS for the Chamber Expo.

BLT's are great.  Been eating them here since the first of July.  Nothing like a home grown tomato.  MMMMMM

Later.

Chief......isn't it frustrating in your line of "work" when it takes more time to secure common sense concensus on the high school site than it does to actually build the high school?  No matter, the good guys (you and your constituents) won!!!  Congratulations!!!  A proud day for Rolesville. S.J

SJ......there is a pelletized or granular product you use with a spreader that kills actively growing crabgrass.  That crabgrass can really spread fast and choke out the good grass.  Crabgrass all dies off in the Fall and it reseeds itself.  You can nail it (the seeds) next Spring with your pre-emergent if you want to skip it until next year.  I never had any luck trying to pull out the crabgrass by hand.

Good morning all,

D.Baker and S.J, you have got us all craving BLT's now.  Now I know what to do with the last two pieces of bacon in the frig.  Best tasting commercial grade tomatoes I have found are the Tomatoes on the Vine variety.  The others taste like cardboard.

Nice to see Dennis W. posting again.  Hope the kids are not wearing you out.

No news so far this week about our ailing friend from church or my sister in Virginia.  She is still in the hospital though.  My cancer surviving sister in North Carolina has recently been made a deacon in her church.  She also has started a support group for cancer patients at the hospital where she goes.  In her spare time she takes three mile walks, drives her own car, shops and whatever.  This from a person who was diagnosed with stage 4 *** cancer.  Thank the Lord from whom all blessings flow.

Wife is still battling neck pain off and on but getting some better over all since she got the neck brace.  Still using heat and Tylenol when needed.

My friend Larry, that Chief met on the visit to my layout won a lottery chance to ride an excursion train behind Union Pacific 844 from Denver to Cheyenne.  I think it was this past weekend.

later,

Ray

I noticed it was from NC, did some checking and sure enough it is within 16 miles of the Chief in Wake County.  Ended up on the Rolesville website, and saw the "Mayor's Show".  I have to admit it they were pretty good.  You may enjoy watching if you have the time.  http://rolesvillenc.gov/

I watched the "Rolesville Mayer's Show" called DWI Check Point. Great show, well done. Even the guy playing the part of DWI was convincing (Chief Frank something or otherBow).

I am not sure, but I thought I saw an Ohio license plate with the driver out of his car walking the white line. Looked a little like BuckeyeSurprise. Was celebrating a Birthday.
