The temp is 72 with some spotty lite showers.

After getting my scripts yesterday I came home and cut the grass. But boy I goofed in the spring, we were out  digging up crab grass as I did not put preventer on it this year and it seems to laugh at my attempts to kill it. Can't use roundup as it kills everything. Out of respect to Don B. I will not tell you what I enjoyed for breakfast.

Don - When you started talking about Lizard Lick Towing I was half expecting to see something about you seeing The Chief's car get towed, then when he showed up to get it back Buckeye and Chuck pop out and say "You Got Punked" Laugh

I ordered the lighted toggle switches yesterday, then last night I went into the trainroom to find the track plan that I printed a few years ago... ok 5 years ago... and it no longer resembles the existing track plan! So now I have to load RRTrack and redo the track plan so I can print it with the toggle and rotary switch locations.

Would it be better to use plexiglass or metal for the control panel? I was thinking metal because it would be a natural ground, then I thought about plexiglass because I could leave the top clear and use auto paint tape to layout the track plan, then paint the back black, remove the tape, paint the track blocks with translucent paint, then back light the panel?

Happy Monday!

Mostly cloudy and mid 80's here today.

Had a doctor's appointment with the specialist this afternoon.  Still not sure what's up.  The choice was more tests, or monitor.  I've got an appointment set up in 3 months.

Idle toy train related thought - if one were to replace a power cord on a ZW with a three pronged cords with ground, where would the proper place to be to attach the ground wire?  The steel base, maybe?

All for now.

Evening All!

Sure will be glad when the weather here gets back to normal!  This humidity stinks.  Humidity was 81%, and 85 degrees.  Work was unbearable today!  Thankfully I have the next two days off!!Big Smile

Going to go and install a lattice work around the inlaws A/C unit, I think they need space for some yard decorations.

Got the train room back in shape.  Strange, but I have one N&S engine and THAT was the one that acted up! Sad  Then win I was testing it it caused a circuit breaker to pop.  Finally found out one of the side steps was hitting a screw head on a switch machine, causing it to short out!  Fixed it.  Speaking of led's I was testing a flashing led with a 9v battery.  (The supplier told me they would flash for weeks, well it lasted 8 days.  Battery died yesterday.  But, the battery was outside in the direct sunlight too.

Chris took a drive yesterday from Kalmazoo to Rockford, Ill., to see relatives.  There and back in 1 day!  He rented a Chevy Spark, has an 8 gal gas tank!  He saw my only living Aunt, he has seen here maybe 4 times in his life.  Reports back from him and her, they had a short but great time.  He was extremely interested in family history.  Guess he is bring home 5 family Bibles from various members, numerous pictures, and great memories.

Mike C,  I'm not even going to comment about the skin cancer treatment.  But it sure does leave a lot of opportunity open.  (See how nice of a guy I am.)  Also, will have to check out Turbo, that has ALWAYS been one of my dreams from childhood, is to attend a Indy 500.

Doug, Will have to see if we can find any of the Blue Bunny, never heard of it.

Buckeye, Are those all your grandchildren, or just the one at the throttle?

SJ, There you go again, just like last year with the BLT's, got my order in with the wife.  BLT's on the menu soon.  Unfortunately without home grown tomatoes.

BTW, was doing some chanel sorting last night and saw this show Lizard Lick Towing.  Just another reality show.

But then.... I noticed it was from NC, did some checking and sure enough it is within 16 miles of the Chief in Wake County.  Ended up on the Rolesville website, and saw the "Mayor's Show".  I have to admit it they were pretty good.  You may enjoy watching if you have the time.  http://rolesvillenc.gov/

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Good evening guys. Up a little later than normal as I am taking off  tomorrow. Wife and kids have lots that we have to attend to. Been fun catching the exploits of Chief in California.  The west coast may never be the same.

Been watching  "Eyewitness War" on National Geographic with oldest son.  Really gives a different view of war than Hollywood and computer games. We have a number of friends who are/were fighting over there.  When they send videos or send pictures, it is a small taste of what real war looks like verses the perception.

Joe, I stopped getting WSJ as they would skip days and then pile several papers in one bag. Thanks for the read, but I didn't want to continue the way our local delivery worked.

i have to get back to the family. Hope each of you have a blessed night.

Good Evnin' Y'all From Cape Ann Taxachusetts,

I am still alive but still scrambling to help family cover bases due to recent medical issues.  My SIL's Dad with the cardio issues is finally home from the hospital after a week in there and the Docs' game plan is to see if meds can right the ship.  My Mother-In-Law is also home and likewise the Docs are taking the medication approach to dissolve blood clots in one leg.  I think we dodged a couple of bullets here with these issues.Thumbs UpThumbs Up

The exterior work on the house is progressing, but the carpenter who has been hit-and-miss the past week with his attendance still has some minor details to finish up.....while I sit on 1/3 of his money!!!Thumbs Up

The painter is about 95% done, with rehanging/painting the downspouts, installing new shutters, and some minor trim work left on his agenda.  This guy has asked for no $$$ until he is finished!Thumbs Up

The power washing of the 20 year old deck has it looking amazingly fresh and back to color......California redwood really holds up!!  It will be sealed with two coats of Cabot oil stain (clear with a mahogany tint) after some minor repairs and some light sanding. Thumbs Up  One snafu.....I shattered the glass table on the deck because I was stupid, replacement table and chairs sitting in the garage awaiting assembly.

The place overall is looking pretty good except for the lawn that is in serious need of some water; and the hose and sprinkler seems to be the only solution since God is not cooperating by giving me some rain, been pretty dry here.  More $$$ out the window.  But I promised the wife all would be in good order for the dual birthday party extravaganza/cookout for the 2 grandkids the first week of August.  We expect 45 people or so for that one.

My June electric bill due to all of the required A/C was unsettling with usage exceeding 1,000 kwh.  July's bill will be worse with all of the 90+ degree days (9 so far?), including a record high (for the date) of 99 last Friday.Bang Head

Once the part is in, my car has to visit the dealer for two days to replace an LED high mount brake light bar on the rear hatch.....seems the extreme heat loosened it and it warped badly!!!!  It is fastened with adhesive strips, not clips or screws!!!!  It is bowed about 3 inches out of its original shape!!!  Now I ask you, what is to prevent that from happening again if the replacement is exactly the same?  The part alone is $550, but fortunately it will still be covered by the dealer or GM since it was replaced once before (last September) under my extended warranty.Thumbs Up

Then it is off to my automotive paint guy whose repaint of my front fascia May 2012 didn't hold up......owner admitted the paint did not seem to be adhering correctly to the fascia for some strange reason (bad prep, but I kept my mouth shut).  Appointment has been made to get that squared away, on his dime. Thumbs Up

I need these car issues behind me because we are taking a road trip with Maximus to Canada mid August with a bunch of dog people we know for canine obedience competition in St. John New Brunswick.  Then maybe a trip with the grandchildren to visit my wife's folks (great grandparents) a week later and to help them out with some things.  An easy 3,500 miles between the two trips.

Later, gang.  I will try to catch up on my reading tomorrow, I promise.  In the meantime, prayers for those in need of them, especially those still recovering from the Chief's visit to California (Ray SP, V8 Dennis, DougDG, and DonnyB) and my favorite Yankee fans (JoeyD, AF Ray, and HusdsonJohn).  MikeC.....I see you have a convert in Brent!!! Good evening all,

It is humid in SE Indiana.  Interesting day.  First off, I agree with  Brent's observations on the game and the team.  Definitely could be a factor in the next world cup.  Went for my skin cancer removal today.  Funny incident.  When I talked to them about it, they said it was on the right cheek, where I had a skin tag removed.   I thought they were referring to my posterior, and it turns out they were referring to my face.   A good laugh was enjoyed by all.  No slicing and dicing, just some scrapping and cauterizing and I was good to go.   I scrimmaged with "my" soccer girls tonight which was fun.  Wife and I went to see Turbo this afternoon.  Even if you are not an Indycar fan, you can enjoy the movie, and if you are not careful, you may become a fan as well.  They really captured the feel of the Speedway, down to the "marbles" that build up on the track.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Evenin' All.

Light supper followed by a mile walk with the Better Half, worked up a sweat with this humidity. Sigh

Was able to sneak away for the afternoon so our daughter and I were able to check out a bayside hotel for the Better Half's surprise anniversary party. Unless we can find something that tops this place, won't be easy, it looks like all systems are go. Yes

The MTH US Army GP-20 that I ordered for the Kid's Club to use arrived today. Nice little engine, should work fine for the K-Line OIF Boxcars that were donated to the kids. Now just to find the 30-77045 Army Caboose, got the Super Sleuth Laz looking in Pa. Thumbs Up

Well gotta get some things done, later all.

p.s. Speaking of ice cream, tried some Blue Bunny Brand over the weekend. For coming from a grcery store it is Thumbs UpThumbs Up. Dinner

Brent: Ice Cream, sounds like Doray is influencing someone! lol

Buckeye: Nice pic. What it is all about!

Doug, thanks for the comic relief!  After seeing how bad our friend had gone down yesterday, that crazy bird was just what I needed.

Not much action today.  Ran trains a little this morning but bailed out when it got hot.  Still need a new  connection hose for my hose caddy in the yard.  On dieuretics today so have to stay near home or else near a bathroom.

Some errands to run and grass to cut.

I had my first real BLT of the season this morning. A BLT is useless without a garden tomato. No toy train news.

Mornin' Fellas

Had a fun weekend with the family. Saturday was spent running errands (did some much needed banking stuff which resulted in paying off a line-of-credit, then consolidating two CC into the line-of-credit. long story short - I no longer have any balance due on any CCs Thumbs Up, in 3 years or less I will have that PLC paid off as well), now to loadup the payment on the house in Pittsburgh and get that sold in 3 years (no more ties to the ex-wife blood/money sucker). Then we took Christina shopping for her birthday (the only thing she would tell us she wanted is ice-cream Big Smile), stopped at The Disney Store (lots of princess and Minnie Mouse stuff), then Toy's-R-Us (new tri-cycle), not sure what else we'll get for her - I know TheQ wants to get a nightstand for her room, and a clock (I have no idea why).

Yesterday we took Christina for her first haircut, she really seemed to enjoy this, and it was MUCH overdue. Matthew is just eating, growing, sleeping. He is trying to sit on his own, which provides a lot of comedy as his feet act as the pivot point as he rolls over (yes he face plants, and his rear is in the air), of course he giggles the whole time.

Heading to TheShack at lunch today to pickup the toggle switches, some wire, and connectors for the panel project.

Ordered a USB to Serial-port connector yesterday and a copy of Windows 7 32-bit. I found TheQ's old laptop on Friday and decided to try to turn it into my trainroom computer. Also ordered a new rechargeable battery for the ZW panel. Everything is supposed to be here by Friday.

------------
Soccer
------------
Everyone has their opinion on all sports, it is different that anything else. Soccer is more popular now than it was back in the 80's when I played. It is more popular in certain areas than in others as well. It is kind of like Lacrosse.

I will say this though... I have been following the USMNT for years, and the group of guys they have right now is far more entertaining to watch. It used to be that the USMNT would sit back, defend, and wait for an offensive opportunity to present itself... now - they ATTACK, they take more risks, etc (example of this would be during the second half yesterday the US had a corner kick, and the coach subbed Eddie Johnson for Wondolowski(sp), well on trots Johnson into the goal box as Donovan lobbed a perfect pass from the corner, Johnson headed the ball right into the back of the net for arguably one of the most exciting goals I have seen in a long time). Oh, and on Thursday the USMNT beat Costa Rica 1-0, but the goal was scored during a play that started in the US goal box on a superb save by their backup goalie, he threw the ball out to Donovan, who ran down the sideline and lobbed a perfect pass to Brett Shea's foot, soft dribble to set the ball up, then fired it off the goalie's hand for the score. The result is a 9 game winning streak (the longest in the USMNT's 100 year history), two more victories and they will win the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the 5th time. I'm telling you guys, give the next game a view.

Konbanwa,

I had a nice 5-mile run this morning before dropping off the older two kids at paintball camp.  They go every day this week and thoroughly enjoy this camp.  I decided to pedal the bike to work today; it was extremely warm and humid, but it was a nice change of pace and it’s only a few miles each way.  As long as it’s not raining I will continue to use the bike.  I’m roasting chicken and vegetable for dinner tonight.

Chief – That’s a fortunate work schedule for the legislature.  I guess if they’re not listening to the people they will be gone come next election.

Mike C. – Don’t get your hopes up about soccer catching on in the US.  I read an article a couple of months ago about how it is still not fully a part of our sports scene; even after spending tons of money on marketing and broadcasting.  I guess our country hasn't lost too much of its senses. I got my son down in the basement for an hour and we pulled out a bunch of stuff form my work shop area and got all the leftover metal studs and crap out of there - they were blocking the whole back end of the workshop area. I gifted the extra studs to the guy who did all the trim and door work for me. Then my son and I went to see RIPD, which was pretty good  :)

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

About 80 the last couple of days, but high humidity and a few thundershowers.

Stopped by the LHS yesterday and did some dickering and dealing on that last batch of used Lionel stuff.  Still a large distance between the asking price and my offering price.  Time will tell.

Finished the re-paint of the spare room.  This weekend's project was starting to move my wife's sewing stuff into it.  Many of the shelves were up in the attic.  Fortunately, the temperature outside was not very hot, so the attic temperature was merely hot instead of sauna like.  The shelves are not very strong, so I'm going to have to sheet the back to give them some shear strength.  This project is taking on a 'magic tile' aspect - can't go directly from point A to point B.  Have to make a bunch of seemingly non-related moves.

All for now.

Good evening all,

It is humid in SE Indiana.  Did nothing today except finish latest CTT and watch US beat El Salvador 5-1 in CONCAAF Soccer match.   Interestingly that was the ONLY sporting event carried on network TV in our area.  Slowly but surely soccer is taking over the US sports scene, one Sunday at a time.   In a few years the only TV sports will be soccer and Indycar.  BWWAH-HHAAA-HHHAAAAA!   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

A bit of insomnia last nite, was awake at 3am and did the toss-n-turn thing til about 4am . Kinda glad I got up and went outside to sit for awhile, mother nature treated me to quite a light show to the east and northeast. Just hope there was sufficient rain with it to help with the fires already burning and didn't start any new ones. Storms forecast for the next few days with flash flood watch issued, we sure could use the rain just hope it doesn't come in buckets instead of a good slow soaker.
Good day at the museum friday, no "pile-ups" or even any of the electronic gremlins appeared. An absolutely fabulous pot-luck dinner last nite with some of the other club members, oink, oink, oink. That's probably why I had insomnia. Whistling

Good morning all,

Doug, that's a pretty scary looking critter staring you in the face.

Got some sad news last night.  The lady who along with her husband have been friends and dinner partners of ours for several years.  We also attend the same church and belong to the same senior social group.  Her husband said that she only had a few days to live and has taken a turn for the worse.  We are going to see her after church today.  He said she may not be able to talk but can hear you.

Mornin' All !

Smile, Wink & Grin

Off to SPF.
I'm back. Request fulfilled.
Ray, With all the serious issues that many of us on the "Pot" are dealing with I thought a bit of jockularity is/was needed. Prayers for your friends.
Whistling
John, Big conga's to the "Ice Cream Queens". Thumbs Up
Gotta get up and movin'.
Later all.

p.s. Anybody notice anything funny with the photo in this ad ? Laugh

Good Morning!

Results from the NJ State Ice Cream Festival:

First Place: Special judges Panel, 2 Sisters Ice Cream Stop.

Second Place Peoples Choice: 2 Sisters Ice Cream Stop for their Lemon Creme Ice Cream. First went to a place from Maine.

Doray and Linda did it!!! The best part is the rain waited until after the Festival. A Thank You to SJ for suggesting making Lemon Ice Cream! They competed against National Chains such as Friendly's.

Fife: Sounds like a plan! Count me in. I will see if Ray can go. My son is probably working. They place third last year with the Pineapple Ice Cream.

Off to a Train Show in Bricktown, NJ.

Have a Great Day!

John
