Back in MPLS after a wonderful four day motor cycle tour with our youngest son. This was our 7th year of him taking time off to tour with old Dad and we just have a ball. Our country has so much to offer, our opportunities are endless. Not sure how much longer I can hold up a 900# motorcycle, I think I have at least a few more years.
But what's most important are the conversations we've had when no one else is around, priceless. I am blessed to have had these last seven years of touring with him, there was a time when he was in HS that he pushed my patience more than once......
Now he's the one to make sure I see all the trains along the Great River Road, if any of you need a fun road trip consider that trip staring in Dubuque, IA and going up up St. Paul, MN. You will see all the trains you hope for framed against the beautiful Mississippi river!!!
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
V8 Dennis, I just read Don's post re visit by the Chief. If it is OK with him it is fine with me. I am meeting Chief and Don for dinner on Thursday at the Tenderloin in La Verne, We will be at my place, I'm guessing about 8:00PM. You can Email me at councilray@aol.com for directions etc. Let me have your email address in case I need to get in touch.

Morning All !
Spanky, SO GLAD TYLER IS DOING WELL!! That picture is fantastic 2 very good looking young men. Hope things continue to get back on track for you guys.
V8Vega, Sounds great to me. Probably be going to the Tenderloin in LaVerne for dinner then over to SPMan's place.
SPMan, Hope your sister is doing better!
FIFE, Grits in So. California?? Are you kidding? Maybe forty years ago. However, the International Market down the street does have a sale going on now for TOFU and Kimshee. (And various cuts/pieces of fish.) So when I last talked with him he said he was concerned of weight gain while on this trip, and wanted to cut back. So being the good guy I am, we are stocking up on the Tofu, and Kay picked up a recipe book on how to "Customize Tofu to YOUR Epicurean Delight". So she came home with some spices and flavorings. Never realized they had such odd flavorings! "Possum Creole", "Cajun Rodent", "BBQ Cat Legs" and more. We have a pot belly stove in the backyard, so she plans on trying some recipes this afternoon.
Buckeye, We just had a new requirement added to our opening procedure at Knott's. We are now required to do a Trestle Inspection for the railroad, AND sign off on a "OK TO OPERATE" document that goes to Ride Operations. It is kept on file for OSHA and DOSH inspections. Training necessary to accommodate; wear rubber soled boots so you don't slip in the ravine, look for crack on the underside of the structure and I beams, leakage on the concrete stanchions, and missing hardware. (I managed to get excused from it do to previous ankle surgery's, didn't want to sign any documents for that inspection. However, if it failed it wouldn't matter much, cause the tender would follow the engine right in anyway.)
Things beginning to calm down here a little, got Chris off to Michigan, he is inflight now. His flight left at 6am this morning, so Kay and I had him at the airport at 5. (I had to work till midnight, and didn't get to be until 2.) Ugh! Then another late shift tonight.
Later guys, got some planning to take care of.
Don
So the Chief is going Hollywood. I just heard they were looking for someone to play the part of Jed in a new grits only cooking show.
Mmmmm.......I know someone in law enforcement in California.
Mike C. - You were in Nelsonville, Ohio. I worked on the new bypass you probably saw. Nice collection of rolling stock, too.

The temp is a stuffy 73. 80s today.
We spent some time yesterday afternoon at sons house. We got to visit with 2 of the kids and some of DILs family. Got home just in time to sit on the porch and watch a shower take care of the garden for me. No train news yesterday except I showed some videos from our club website..

Konbanwa,
Today was our youngest child’s third birthday. He received some fun toys (none train-related this year) and had a great day. After church, he enjoyed McDonald’s for lunch and then had his daily nap. During his nap, I watched part of the UFC fights I recorded while we were at church; I still have about two hours left to watch so I don’t know who won the main event yet. I’m trying to avoid the internet and sports shows to make sure I don’t accidentally find out.
Following the nap, he and I spent some time outside on the back porch building a temporary layout. It was extremely hot and humid so we worked up quite a sweat, but it was tremendous fun. We stopped for a few moments to enjoy some freshly homemade maple ice cream. As darkness settled in, we deconstructed the layout and headed indoors to escape the mosquitos and enjoy dinner and chocolate cake – with more maple ice cream on the side.
I need to call my older brother as today is his birthday as well.
DJ Spanky – That is great news about Tyler.
Fife – I’m glad Alexis is doing well. Our Princess has some tween attitude as well. I’m sorry the Yankees are roughing up your Orioles, well not too sorry.
Sayonara,

Alexis is doing great...but the pre-teen sassies are a-kickin' in!
Fifepup was just hired by Office Depot, and is going for an additional job at Pizza Hut. He has MOPAR-itis. (wants a new Dart)

V8Vega - I read your posts.

dbaker - Do they even import grits west of the Mississippi...?
Seemed pretty hot in Saint Louis today. I mowed the lawn and then took my son out for a burger, comic books, and a movie. Spanky - so glad to hear about Tyler! Prayers guys.
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good evening all,
It is rainy in SE Indiana. Rain washed out the mowing. Worked on other stuff. Did some more attic work. Long term project. Have 35 years of stuff to go thru. Have made at least one pass on all the boxes on the shelves, which is progress. Forgot to mention I played soccer Tuesday night. Talked to both daughters today. Have only heard from Lucas once since sentencing hearing. Watched Indy car qualifying today. Sato starts 8th. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Jack a month ago you would have been 7 pages behind. Pot runs slow these days.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
I have said it before and I say it again. Chief Bon Voyage! Have a great trip. Don't let Don get the best of you. Remember, you are the Chief.
Jon, good to hear from you!
Back from the lake house. Mowed when I got there the other day. Guess what I did just before I left????? You guessed it.
V8Vega ChiefEaglesA single family or joke photo is fine. For the 1st couple of years I was on the forum I read the Coffee Pot a few minutes and decided its a waste of time. then I read it again and liked it and I do like to post so started reading it everyday. Sometimes it feels like your talking to the wall and you think why post but everyone who reads the Pot reads it, they just don't have any reason to respond or anything to say. Sat.90 Sun.88 Mon. 94

Dennis, that means per post. I agree with not posting replies to all. Hard for me to remember all those who have posted when I read the POT. Doesn't mean not friendly. Sometimes I have to "skim" over it due to time.
It is good to see so many back and posting.
Spanky, WOW!!!! Prayers. Some good and some bad.
Now as for the raid into CaleforniA, the REB army is ready. I do wonder if I need to take special protection and crash helmet as I will be riding with Don.
Well, unpacking from lake to do and packing for LA to start.
Later.

dbaker48 Fri 7/12, Planned: Trip to San Diego, obviously dependent upon Doug's availability. Would drive along the coast and it would be an enjoyable drive. San Diego Union Station if pretty and worth the time, or even Old Towne San Diego. Or visit the USS Midway. Revised: Continue Court Yard effort, get ground somewhat level and mix in the soil enrichment and stabilizing materials. Level area and install new sprinkler system. Relayout flower beds, and plant accordingly. Sorry Doug, if your available we could probably use your help.

After consulting with my cardiologist, as the Star-Kist Tuna commercial said "Sorry Charlie".
Busy day yesterday with only two of us there, a few minor DCS "anomolies" but things went well. Now I need to start getting things ready for Thursday night run, 5pm-10pm, as well as the Friday run.
Don, What time do you guys anticipate being at the museum? Need to know what time to have lunch ready, sometimes it takes awhile to find some properly seasoned roadkill closeby.

Good morning all,
Thanks for the prayers for my sis in Virginia. No more news about her today.
Spanky, glad Tyler is doing so much better.
Don, quite an itenerary. Will pray for a cool evening if you come at night. Incidentally, is your reference to cat repellant about a real product? I have been getting deposits from some cats lately since my new wall went up. It has become a sancturary for cats because there are no dogs are here. Re Dolores yard in Carson, I used to work there sometimes when I was with the SP/UP. Probably wouldn't recognize the place now. I understand there have been a lot of changes down there since I retired in 2000.
later,
The dog days of summer are here. Hot, Sunny and Humid. Off to the store with the wife. She is at war with the chipmunks. So we have to get poison peanuts. No 9mm or 22LR shells to be had around here. 223, no problem.Carry law must be passed by the 9th or you will be able to carry in IL on just your FOID card. We shall see.

Good Morning!
This is probably a good time to post this, as the Chief is either doing last minute Mayor things, or on the way to, or up at the Lake.
Unfortunately there has been a slight change of plans regarding the itinerary during his visit. (As I was able to get some time off work, I was informed that all the things that I havn't been doing around the house needed to be done. And especially since there would be an extra pair of hands to help.) So don't let on, but the revised scheduled looks something like this;
Wed 7/10, Planned: Arrival at LAX, I would meet him at airport. Then we would go down to the train club in San Pedro, and on the way home drive through the LA/LB Harbor Area, and stop and get something to eat.
Revised: Leave airport, go by Walmart and pick up a mosquito net, and some cat repellant for the back yard. Then to the local "International Food Market Warehouse" and see about their weekly bulk sale items that are on sale. (Stuff that came in on the containers, that was not sold.)
Thur 7/11, Planned: Trip to Hollywood sight seeing, (go by the Delores Yard, The Trench, on the way). Go over to Peterson Automotive Museum, (their having a pickup special going on). Then in the evening, go by Rays place and possibly have dinner.
Revised: As the front court yard has been a real pain to get grass to grow, need to renovate the area. Remove all existing weeds, rocks, old sprinkler system and completly breakup the sunbaked hardened ground. Then sift through the dirt removing roots and animal droppings. If time permits remove dead plants and roots from neighbors tree. (Sorry Ray, just gotta get this done while the weather permits.)
Sat 7/13, Planned: Go to Pomona, and visit the www.railgiants.org museum. Then on out to Orange Empire Museum in Perris.
Revised: Plant grass seed, remove old paint from sidewalk, reinstall accent lighting. Have fish fry with puchases made on way home from airport. View museums websites for photos of equipment they have.
Sun 7/14, Planned: Do some railfanning at Fullerton Train Depot, then on to a local hobby shop and beach tour.
Revised: As the court yard project is completed, go ahead and re-do the “Dog Bone” in the back yard, due to the unexpected landscape issues.
Mon 7/15, Planned: Planned trip to Knott’s for cab ride, various tours of park, (relaxing day).
Revised: Take care of the facia boards on the house that need repainting. Will only need to replace one on the second story. Should be able to sand and patch on Monday, and the one replacement.
Tue 7/16, Planned: Down day for layout running and visit to other sights on Chief’s “To Do” list.
Revised: Finish the facia board project, patch any stucco issues that are open. Also, as the Chief will be leaving on the 17th, need to make sure the cars are all clean. (4).
Wed 7/17, Planned: Take the Chief to LAX for his 11am flight
Revised: As I am all worn out from his visit, it will work fine if I call SuperShuttle to pick him up and take him to the airport. (Pickup time 4:15am). I’m sure he wont mind.
Mornin' boys. Mornin' English. Hazy, hot and humid here in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Nice to see some returning members.
Too busy to post. Doing Fifey type of things.
Stay foamy.
The temp is a stuffy 76, going into the 80s today.
The great feel of summer, folks are out traveling and enjoying things.
Good Morning! Going into the 90's and Sunny, with a nice breeze coming off the Bay.
Today should be a nice easy day unless my daughter decides to paint the kitchen in her new house. She has 3 walls that extend up 3 floors and my SIL is not crazy about climbing so guess who gets that job!
SPMan, Ray: Prayers for your Sister and your Wife.
Chuck: Sounds more like the Beverly Hillbillies than Blueberry Hill.
Jon: Enjoy the trip.
Mike C: Sounds like a great trip you had.
Rich: Glad you and the Princess had a great time.
Brutus, Jim: Happy Belated Anniversary to your Folks. Glad your Mom is doing good.
Roy: Hope you feel better.
Joe: The 3 Stooges do come to mind!
John: Enjoy Ocean City!
Have a Great Day!
John
Blueberryhill RR Buckeye....A lady we know just received a check for 2 million from the Oil Companies. She owned a lot of land around the big construction site. Another guy owned 500 acres of good hardwood trees. A big lumber company paid him $500,000. for the harvesting rites. Then, an oil company paid him 1.5 million for drilling rites. He did this from in front of his laptop. Life is good.

Good Morning It's another hot and humid day here...right now it is sunny but later on today...back to those ol' t'underinboomers and mucho rain forecast here...Got some of the junk actually out'n the Lair and into that bin...they pick up later this morning..then it'll be more junk to bail out of there...
Chief: It generally is a bit of a pain here but we have not seen the flash flooding yet..our backyard lake is a 'shared' lake between 8 properties here. Because of the lay of the crescent we are, more or less, at the bottom side of it...hence the drainage channels that we placed out towards our end here...I am beginning to think that we could throw in a G scale, or O scale, outdoor layout here....Have a good one!!
Konnichiwa,
So far nothing too exciting has happened today: I had a hair(s)cut and mowed the lawn. I’m either going to take the youngest for another bike ride or set up a temporary layout on the back patio. We’ll see which one he’d prefer after his nap. The wife and older two children have been enjoying the pool. They Yankees won again and have a nice winning streak going, but unfortunately so do the Sox.
Rich – I’m glad you and your Princess are having fun together.
Chuck – Same here; it seems some of our humidity has made your way as well.
Roy – Why am I picturing The Three Stooges scenes when Moe is trying to get Curly or Shemp to swallow a pill? I hope you feel better soon.
Ray - for your sister.
Dennis - yes we have done some of the local sites. Lots of good restaurants here. The rain here has been obnoxious. 14 inches over normal. High today was 75. News says a big jet stream is dipping from Canada down to the Gulf and then dragging all the moisture north. We still had a good time on the river with all our friends despite the constant rain this past week.
Up late as I swallowed/inhaled an ibuprofen gel cap into my windpipe earlier this evening. Thought I was going to cough up a lung but I finally got it to come out but now I am sore and windpipe hurts. One of our friends here is an RN and said if the lingering cough persists I should go see a doc on Monday.
Regards, Roy
Just a quick check in....
just returned from the greatest city in the world. Spent the day there, saw Spider Man Turn off the dark for a discount, had breakfast in Times Square, cocktails on the Metro Hotel Roof top overlooking Macy's and a scenic view of the Empire State Building, then to Grand Central Terminal for dinner at 9. Long day and I'm off to bed. the Princess and I are both beat.
