Well, I think were all set for the big visit. I've got all the trains secured to the shelves with safety chains and locks. Kay has taken all the silverware and other valuables over to her parents for safekeeping. The computer has been locked on to the Forum, all the keyboard keys (other than the alpha keys) have been painted over. The mouse has been disabled, so computer is definitely only available for posting here. The security system has been installed and tested, including the motion detectors and alarms, in every room. The pool service team is on 24/7 alert status for any immediate response requirements concerning water safety. The neighborhood watch captain has been alerted, and 24 hour surveillance teams have been established. I think, were A-OK, but just in case the local law enforcement is maintaining helicopter surveillance to ensure neighborhood safety. And finally a team of narcotic search dogs have been re-trained for Grits identification and are in constant patrol through out the city.
So pray for me, and I will try to keep everyone informed. IF you don't hear from me for a 36 hour period, then something is wrong. I will also take special efforts to ensure that the only aircraft he will be on that departs here will be bound for Charlotte, NC. (To protect you all.)
In the event I do not survive this, please do not dismay, for I feel it is my duty to ensure all the participants and the forum are well protected, and feel honored to meet the challenge.

Here's my take on dehumidifier's and what they can do for you. My basement is also finished and below grade and we tend to run the central AC most of the time. I typically bring out the dehumidifier in June, just for the basement, and plug it in. Because we don't have a floor drain in the train rooms I empty it every day, no big deal and there is always two gallons of water. It's difficult to keep humidity at a low enough level to prevent rust on the rails but I've been successful, it also takes the dampness out of the air and I like that, keeps it fresh.
I do know of several train hobbyist's that run their dehumidifier's in the winter, I do not. Just my

Good MorningAll kind of dull and very humid out today...currently sitting at 74F feeling like 94F...about 95% humidity...yuck...Getting a few things done chorewise and then off to the mall to meet the gang...and then train time....

jonadel Brent -- if you think you might be storing your engines in plastic storage bins you might want to consider finding some of those small silicone bags to keep moisture at bay. We store all of our engines under our layout in the basement off of the floor but we also make sure we run a dehumidifier 24/7 along with central air.

It is a sunny 72 degrees. Going up to 88 today with a slight chance of rain.
Today is a busy day. I have an early errand to run and the usual chores around the house. Wife is grocery shopping. Lunch and a nice nap, later.
Chief.... Have a safe trip. I hope the C-47 Cargo plane has a smooth ride.

Had a great talk with Roy yesterday. Found out all the details of the Chief's trip and now I will be able to let the California Highway Patrol in on the information in order to keep the state safe and pollution free of grits. I sure hope those surfer dudes are aware that there will be some big waves hitting the beach as the hot air increases during the Chief's visit.

It was another hot day today with highs in the upper-90s again. The workday was mundane and I finished up at the usual time. I made pork fried rice for dinner tonight, but instead of using rice I used quinoa; it is a healthier option and can be flavored just like rice. It’s raining right now which will definitely make it a steamy evening.
Dennis – We would love to go to Europe; we were stationed in Germany a few years ago. I’ve spent time in Italy for work and we went there a few times for vacation. My family’s home village in Sardinia is on our short list for a retirement home. I use Plugged In too, as well as a couple of others for movie reviews/ratings.

Seems okay now? Not much today - We got our pictures from the anniversary dinner and they are pretty good, but had to download cr2 codecs to view them in Windows. That only took a few seconds. I have a guy coming Thursday night to give me a bid on the basement entry door to include storm door and all trim work. I'm better $1K. TTFN!

Chief good to hear there is a problem with forum postings. I post to the Pot and then nothing shows up after hitting "post", just the post thread title. If one goes back to the complete list of posts and hit the "latest post" one gets the same thing, the title of the post and a blank page. But if one goes back to the list of all posts and click on the post to start with the first post, one can click on the highest page number (6) in the boxes at the top of the post and one is taken to the last page. Weird.
Rain finally let up and we got some sun today. Ground is drying out and I was able to do some yard work after work. Got a friends high school grad son to help. Paying him a fair wage and it was worth it for both of us. Temp was low 80's and humidity was high 90's. we dug out 10 overgrown bushes and cleaned out the beds they were in. Will probably take the beds out as they are causing drainage issues against the basement wall.

Chuck, and Sj, thanks for setting me straight. I have all the engines mentioned, but they have been idle too long.
Brent, we always check www.pluggedin.com which has reviews for many of the movies that are out. If it is not shown there, check IMDB,which is the database for the film industry. They have a new feature that gives a bit more information regarding ratings for each particular film, but it is limited on what they tell you, and you have to search for it below the cast list.
gotta get some sleep.

The TO storm dumped more rain in 2 hours than did Hurricane Hazel in one day in 1954....it was just nuts there....
ChiefEagles Guess what? Mowing grass. Guess again? Yes, rain ran me off of the mower. I had sprayed the garden, roses, grapevines and fruit trees about an hour earlier. Got these almost white gray stink bugs sucking my squash vines. Think I made them sick though. Problem is, there will probably be more before I get back. Will finish with wet grass. Had waited for it to dry. Was still damp as humidity must be 90%. Ray, it gets into the high 90's to over 100 during the summer here. Difference, 70% to 90% humidity. Your hot is comfortable to me. Second day without my Honda in paint shop. Took wife to Dr. appointment this AM in old Buick with no air. Not bad early in the day and make sure you park it in the shade.
Weather is supposed to be a little cooler on Thursday. I hope so for Chief's visit Thursday night. I made a practice run in the train room last night and it was 90 in there at 8;00PM even with exaust fan running. However ambient temperature was 102 yesterday. Should be liveable by Thursday night though. Now Chief will know what "Shake and BAKE" really means. Daytime temps Thursday predicted to be only in the 80's so it should cool off faster at night.
Don, hope you were in no danger when the sight glass showed no water. Did you have to let her cool down before adding more water? Does your engine have a feedwater heater? I'm sure you wouldn't want to put cold water into a hot boiler.
Got update on my sister in the Hospital in Virginia. The doctor has decided to keep her in the hospital for another week to give her colon surgery time to heal better. They will try solid food again in a day or two. She is feeling better but can't find a comfortable position to sit up. BIL says she is dealing with her problems as well as one could expect.
Just got a call from the Tru Green guy who is coming to treat my lawn fungus today. Was suppose to come last Wednesday.
Got to let the bird out of his cage for excercise now before he drives us crazy.

It had the 12 wheel tender. There was no difference in the engines except for the numbers. Chuck While packing up the engines the other night I found that I 'bought' the wrong sized lids for the bins [bangehead] so I had to exchange them at Walmart last night. I was going to buy two more, but decided otherwise since I had my car and there wasn't anywhere to put bins that large! That and I don't think there is space under the layout presently to store them... Need to get back down into the trainroom and basement tonight to do some additional straightening up as my little sister and her family are coming to visit Christina and Matthew this weekend.All for now. for those who need it [prayers]

Brent, Quite a few of the club members use tool boxes, from Harbor Freight when they go on sale, for storage and transport of their engines. About the only ones they may not work for would be the big articulated steamers and you would have to do your foam cutting. By only having two engines ber box it also helps to keep the weight to a reasonable level for shuffling stuff around.

Our oldest reporter (Buckeye), has reported the following:
A loaded transit train(with people) in Toronto , was stranded in high water that submerged the tracks. The passengers had to be evacuated to high ground by boats. The whole transit system in Toronto is a mess and it is still raining there. Further updates to follow.
