Chief--sad deal for the American Legion rider and his family.  I've had one blowout (rear tire) at interstate speed, not enjoyable.

I've been on well over 100 PGR & Legion mission rides and I understand the risks, so much can happen in the blink of the eye that you have very little control over.  The worst fears for me are the distracted drivers or those folks who will not pull over  for a funeral procession.  Even with a strong  LEO presence with lights on some folks just don't get it or don't care.

Dennis..... On the 1949 catalog, I found out that there is no difference between the 2020  and the 671 , other than the numbers and the type of tender  that comes with it.  Just thought I'd share that with you.

Good Mornin' Y'all From Cape Ann Taxachusetts,

It has been over 90 here five days in a row, but we won't quite hit that today.  For the Boston metro area (North), this goes down as one of the top 4 longest stretches of 90+ on record.ince the 1880s.  That follows a June that went into the record books as one of the top 4 wettest "Junes."  The humidity has been equally high.....like living in Florida.  The electric bill from running the air conditioning is going to be a whopper.Bang Head

Exterior carpentry repairs continue on my house: soffit, fascia, trim, pediment, and clapboards that have seen better days.  Plus work on the rear deck.  I hope this guy finishes up this week so the painter/stainer can then step in and continue the wallet drain.  And that guy will be followed by the roofers.  No $$$ left over to help fund the Chief's tour of California.Laugh

My nine year old granddaughter Victoria is doing fine with her immune system disorder, but I am afraid that her 6 week follow-up blood test to see where here platelet count is at won't be as positive as we had hoped.  She is still bruising far too easily; so we anticipate her platelet count will come in way too low.....better, but still way too low.  The game plan is to stay the course and let the count come back naturally, letting her immune system straighten itself out over time versus the alternative courses of treatment: platelet infusions and drugs.  For you and me that would be no big deal.  But for a nine year old during the Summer, it is like being in jail for her.  She can't afford any bruising/trauma because she will hemhorrage internally, especially to the head.  So all of her activities have to be very muted from a physical standpoint.

On that note, let me join my fellow POTTERS is extending my sincerest congratulations to Spanky on little Tyler's fantastic comeback and continued progress.  One cannot underestimate the toll this must have taken on your family, Spank.  But you and your wifey hung in there through thick and thin, poured yourself into it, and came out the better for it.  You had Tyler's back, something he (and Corey) will remember every day for the rest of their days. An irreplaceable teaching episode about the paramount importance of family, faith, and togetherness.  And the job? I hope you don't give it a second thought.  I cannot print here what I truly think because this is a family forum.  But let me just say this, based on my decades of experience in corporate America:  you flush the waste as you would a toilet and don't look back.

RaySP.....prayers for your Sis.  I know her health situation is weighing heavily on you.  MikeC.....prayers for your boy; stay strong, for Lucas and the whole family.  Rich, prayers that your time with your daughter can be repeated again this Fall and that you don't have to wear kevlar to Florida.  BOC, I hope your progress continues as well, and I think of you often.  Dennis.....prayers continue for the newest members of your family as I know you have your hands beyond full on more than one front.  KEV.....I hope Blaze is doing OK, or about as good as can be expected.

Finally, prayers for all who need them. Angel  I have some POT catching up to do and don't mean to leave anyone out.  It is just that my brain is on overload with the busy goings on here.

I will drop by later today as time allows.

Jack

It's 71 stuffy degrees this morning.

Some errands to run then the day is mine.

My first Lionel train came from the 1949 catalog as well. A 2025 with the green and gray passenger cars. Yep I still have mine too.

Mornin' Fellas

Back to work to rest from my workend (what I now call weekends). Saturday TheQ and I took the kiddos outside while we scrubbed the moss off the front of the house. I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY dislike extension ladders, and I dislike moss on rooftops even more! We got it all and the house looks very nice again... and I am sore. We didn't feel like cooking Saturday night so we packed the kids up and went to Red Robin - I had forgotten how good that place is, and Christina liked their onion rings, fried, and mac-n-cheese. Matthew has been eating pureed foods for about a month now, seems to enjoy apple sauce, carrots, and sweet potatoes. We haven't tried bananas yet, or peas. Yesterday while the kids and TheQ were napping, I went into the trainroom to continue my clean-up project. I now have 2/3 of the carpet clear and vacuumed! Went to Wal-Mart and got 3 more bins, filled them with engine boxes. Now I have to pull the other bins and see how much space is in them and get one or two more bins.

I also started wiring the track for the transition between the two levels. Need more wire. After that it is wiring the lower level, then it is building the control panel area. Still not wiring switches, but I am installing the drops as necessary (I think I have 5 more to drop), also started 'planning' the town. I have an area 60 inches deep by 67 inches wide, but kind of conical in shape -  hard to describe. So I'll have to build the frame then install the base before I can really get a feel for how it will all come together. Need to look at the rotary switches I bought some 6+ years ago and see if I can make them work with the current setup. Hope I can because if not finding some that will work will be a pain in the you know what.

I'll refrain from posting my opinion on the whole picture thing... phoeey

Morning all.  partly cloudy to cloudy.  Tstorms all around.  Missing us right now.  Big line "hit" lake house last night and this morning.  Moving off toward northeast VA to maybe Fifey.  Farmers here do not need more rain.  Actually forecast says big rains here this weekend.  Not good.  Then watch the storm in the Atlantic.  Why Fran was so bad.  Had 8 inches of rain before the winds hit.  Ground so soft, tree uprooted easily.

Off to follow-up from physical.  Then start getting ready to go to CA.

Morning all. On call so I will be heading in a bit later.  Chuck, I too have the 1949 catalog as it was where my first set that was passed down from Dad to me.  Mine is the work train that was headed by the 2020 steam. Not sure what the set number is...been awhile since I looked at it..

kids have been crazy this past weekend! Lots of fun and games. The older two, my wife and I have been playing "Apples to Apples" which can get a bit crazy. Good times.

Joe, great to hear from you. You have any idea how long they will be keeping you in Japan?  Most folks I know do a three year stint, but some MOSs keep some longer.

well, best get running. God bless and have a great day!

Man - are these popups annoying or what?  Hey - serious question, is that one joke or family picture per day or per post?  It's not clear.  Hi Chuck!  How are your legs?

Per post.  So, you could do post after post and beat the rule.  Common sense rules.  Read my reply to Spanky above on why.

Konbanwa,

The workday seemed long today; it was probably due to having an extended weekend and sitting through meetings all morning.  I’m preparing roasted chicken and vegetables for dinner tonight.  We have no other plans for this evening so I should catch up on some reading time with the older son.  Last night, I was able to watch the remaining UFC fights I recorded earlier in the day; I was extremely pleased with the outcome of the main event.

AF Ray – No worries on the photo; I think I have an idea what it is. Go Yankees!

Chuck – Yes, the youngest and I need some more camera and operating time.  Hopefully, our skills will improve by the end of summer. Wink

Sayonara,

Joe

Jim - I expect that this trip will keep to original schedule, though the delays I had last year worked out for the better.  My original travel schedule had me going through New York on the same day Sandy visited!

Doug, let me check and see what my folks say at the store.  Maybe transfer to us, then we ship to you.  I know a lot of stores will not ship to CA.

Jon, 11:00 news just told us we lost an American Legion biker this afternoon.  The group was being escorted by SHP when his front tire blew and he crashed.  Sad

Temperature and humidity both raising here.

RT - that picture reminds me of a Ford Econoline ad from the mid 60's that pictured an Econoline van with open rear doors with railroad rail sticking out.  The caption went something like 'just because you can carry it, does not mean it fits'.

Scored a MPC era Blue Comet set for a reasonable price.  The 'Sound of Steam' is working, though the smoker is a little weak.

My wife and I got out to see the Lone Ranger film this afternoon.  Fun diversion for a summer Sunday afternoon.  I did see notice that the Promintary Point spike driving scene was inaccurate.  Jim West, Artimus Gordon, and Dr. Loveless with his mechanical spider were not there!

Back to work tomorrow to keep you all's SS checks solvent.  Speaking of work, looks like I might be making a business trip to Spain next month.

All for now.

Doug -- no Can Am for me nor will I trike the bike, when it's over it's over.  However, there might be a FUN convertible to replace the two wheeler!  If I could just figure how how to get a steam engine on the highway .......

license it as a specialty vehicle?Whistling Or historical vehicle...a friend of ours has a Stanley Steamer licensed as such

Back in MPLS after a wonderful four day motor cycle tour with our youngest son.  This was our 7th year of him taking time off to tour with old Dad and we just have a ball.  Our country has so much to offer, our opportunities are endless.  Not sure how much longer I can hold up a 900# motorcycle, I think I have at least a few more years.

But what's most important are the conversations we've had when no one else is around, priceless.  I am blessed to have had these last seven years of touring with him, there was a time when he was in HS that he pushed my patience more than once......

Now he's the one to make sure I see all the trains along  the Great  River Road, if any of you need a fun road trip consider that trip staring in Dubuque, IA and going up up St. Paul, MN.  You will see all the trains you hope for framed against the beautiful Mississippi river!!!

Hey Jon,

Is it time to look into trading in the Gullwing for a Can-Am ?  Smile, Wink & Grin

The devil made me do it ! Ashamed

Chief, It has gotten pretty bad. I've been trying to find a shop that will handle the transfer of the 22 rifle I learned to shoot and hunt with almost 60 years ago. It's currently with my sister in Ky but they just don't want to do the private party transfers because of the paper nightmare imposed by the government(s). I hope to pass it onto my grandson for him to learn with when he gets a little older. Got a few more referrals, hopefully one of them will work out. May have to make a long roadtrip. Grumpy

Chief,

You do not need shots to go to California but those Californians that will have contact with you need several shots in order to not get the Roseyville Rash.  Laugh

Actually, I have them all.  Including all the Hepatitis shots.  Ins. paid for them.  The reason you got the Roseyville Rash, that is a REB sneak attack on those who escape the long arm of the Roseyville PD. Whistling  It was sent in a special email attachment. Thumbs Up

Spanky, no one would know you are a proud Dad.  Good job.

Evening all.  I took a little computer break today.

Went to early Church and Sunday School.  Then I picked garden.  Side dressed [for those non-farmers, added fertilizer] all my garden plants.  Getting tomatoes in a fair number now.  They are like the tobacco, so much water, tall plants but not as many tomatoes as usual for the height.  Tobacco is extra tall [some say the tallest it has ever been] but leaves are paper thin.  Poor quality.

Well, I have certain chores to do in a few days.  Why?  Because....

Music California, here I come! Music

Good to see so many of the gang posting again.

Spanky, a few is OK.  The reason is, a large number of photos posted on the Pot makes the thread even larger.  They also slow down downloads of some computers that do not have high speed internet.  I have been guilty of posting them in the Pot.  A separate thread helps with that.  It is common reasoning and not being "mean".

PS: sorry Dennis.  Forgot  That would be outstanding.  Thumbs Up

Good evening all,

Rain then sun today in SE Indiana.  Mowed the yard.  Watched the Indy car.  Worse possible scenario today.  Chippy's team (TCGR) was 1-2-3 and Sato crashed out in the pits.  At least SFHR had a top 5 and Simona was 11th.  Tired.  Back to work tomorrow.  Ugh.  Wish I could retire now.  At least 4 more years.  Buckeye, looks like you did a nice job on US 33 there.  Maybe you could contract out for the entrance road to Ravenswood Castle.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Sunday Evening All!

Busy day today as I watched the Wimbledon men's finals. Great tennis and Glad Murray won. Followed by "Can you fix the vacuum?" Glad that too only an hour. Then it was an hour of Yankee game, bad lose. Our kids were coming over for dinner. The other night I bought everything to make 4 pizzas. So Cathy made her's and I did mine on the grill (a co-worker gave me the idea the other day). No one had that before and it came out great.

Tomorrow night is another Yankee game but Carrie isn't comfortable enough to go so my niece Michele is going, HudsonJohn's daughter.

JoeD - Sorry but I owe you a pic and I WILL post it next weekend. And Happy birthday to your son.
DJ - That's great news, glad it's all working out well.
SP Ray - Prayers for you sister.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Another hot and humid day.  Stayed inside and enjoyed the ballgame. Indians finally beat the Tigers.

Got a 1949 Lionel catalog reproduction. It is really interesting to see the old train sets and their prices.  My original set is listed there #2141WS.  Still have it and it all works.

Have a nice evening,
