KRM

Well we just got back from the SEX party. The new grandchild will be a BOY! Smile

have a good night.

I'm just catching up on the posts from the past few days and came across this! Congrats to you and your family Kev! BTW - We're having a sex party Wed night!

I'm home today with a doctors appointment for this afternoon. Coughing for a week is too long in my books so let's start with some antibiotics, I guess. Especially since we go away for a three day trip on Friday for a mini vacation.

Now to finish reading.

PS,

Jeffrey, Cool looking track cleaner.

SJ: Hope you guys fare well with the coming storm. I got in late from school last night and missed the Tardis. I stopped at the Ice Cream Shop, broke down boxes and took the recyclables out. I have to suck up to be sure we have the lemon ice cream for York!

Good Morning, 41 and SUNNY and that is to change soon.

Had a good class last night. They got a lot accomplished on their projects. We have many "rare" and off the wall cars come into the class. This semester one of the guys just purchased a 1989 Buick Reata. It is very clean and he wants to repaint the hood. It has a ding on the center of the hood. Problem is the hood has been painted numerous times and it is horrible. When he went to feather around the dent, the paint looked loke growth rings on a tree. So he is stripping the paint off of it. Anyway, I have had everything from a Model T to a Kaiser-Frasier to Hondas.

Brent: ZZZZZ, See you at York.

Kev: My daughter Michele is planning on having a baby next year after the new house is done and school lets out. Like Ray's daughter Carrie, they are both teachers.

SPMan, Ray, the 611, cool! I like looking at the RR maps from the past and compare with what they are now. When I look at the maps from NJ, it seems like something was taken from me, my past, for a lot have disappeared. My Uncle Stan was a RR buff and he took me all over in the 50's watching trains.

Buckeye: Thanks for sharing the info on the 611.

8n: Great info on the P38.

Joey D: Congrats on the Marathon. Of course they stop to take pictures in Tokyo! Do you think running a Marathon will stop them! Whistling

Laz: Prayers for the Vet. When Mack went to the Vet all he said was $250 please. Laugh Mack got a clean bill of health also.

Doug M: I feel for you plowed in at 11 pm. Good Luck! I get out at school around 9:30 and I just drive home. That is a Long day for you.

Chuck: Cheerios for me this morning.

AF53, Ray: No packages for either of us yet!

Have a Great Day!

John

Temp is 32

We are waiting for the rain that will turn to snow. I got the errands done yesterday so we are locked in unless they close schools tomorrow. I'm hoping that won't happen of course. A nice chat last night with some of the guys..S.J.

Aloha. Supposed to be snow stormy on my long day (with class tonight) so I threw a shovel and canvas bags in the back of the van in case they plow me in tonight. Nothing like getting off the train at 11 pm to find a wall'o snow around the only car in the lot. Smile.  Nice ride on the TARDIS with SJ and Brutus last evening. Watched most of the newest Top Gear too. I broke out my binders on how to change a headlamp in the van. Since it's 13 years old, it looks pretty easy, though the lens cover is pretty fogged too. Hmmm.

Congrats on your marathon, Joe! (I couldn't survive that)

Good morning. It's 43° with 68% humidity. The high will be 60°.

Woke up this morning and felt like I'd been dipped in ink and dropped in a coal mine. The room was absolutely pitch black. The power was out so I had to turn on the little emergency light on the wall at the head of my bed. Now that I had some light I could see to turn on the electric lantern and light the room. By my pocket watch it was 3:15. The power came back on at 5:02. I checked the DVR and it indicated a stopped recording at 2:10. The cause of this? The weather guesser was wrong again. The report said the bad weather was over with last night. If by bad weather they meant rain they were right. But the bad weather was far from over with. Along about 1:00 am we got the biggest wind storm so far this year and it was still howling when I woke up at 3:15. It's still going right now but is diminished somewhat. Wind gusts are 30-40 mph.

My plan today is to get some more of the clutter off the layout. But you know, it almost never fails. About the time I pick up the second or third object the phone will ring and my plans will be put on hold.

Hi GUYZ,

31 here and awaiting rain.  Took my MINNIE to the Vet yesterday all good got her shots.  My Vet had the flu almost went under, lost 50 lbs.  Dogs are helping him get back on the mend again. So prayers for his everyday coms back.

Today gotta go get some latex spray paint and gonna start some scerey on layout.

JOEY D, BIG CONGAs on the finish of your Marathone!!!  Well done buddy. Wifes last Marathone was in Boston for the 100th running back in '96, there were 45000 running she hated it too slow it took her 45 minutes just to get to the start line.  She really got turned off by the large number of people.  At least you did it and again CONGAs to ya.

Stay frosty my friends,

Didn't the fighter get to near supersonic speed in a dive?

Maximum reported dive speed of the P-38 in an isolated incident was nearly 600 mph but this was an extreme exception that was never repeated. Maximum operational speed was 390 mph.

Good morning every one.

No three and half legged cat last night, but was visited by a large fury SKUNK.

JOE: its funny how, that in another country, things like Krispy Kreme doughnuts and McDonalds are a savored treat, when in the USofA, those places are just another notch in our daily routine.  And yet, as Americans, we ALL complain about how bad McDonalds is, yet we continue to go there?!

I personally try to avoid them, but in the daily hussle and bussle, sometimes its Mcdonalds or no lunch at all, so I'm left to choose fast food over nothing

gotta run

Good morning.

Again, hope to get more work on the P-38 done, and maybe get a little layout work in.

The P-38 was one of the first airplanes that compressability became a factor in the aerodynamics.  It was fast enough in a dive that the wing would make a wake that messed up the airflow around the stablilizer and elevator bad enough that the elevator would not work.  The fix was to change the angle of the tail assembly by a few degrees and to add some flap like surfaces between the pilot nacell and the tail booms.  These fixes were put into production very rapidly.  They never re-developed the sheet metal pattern for the tail to match the angle change.  One joint ahead of the tail assembly in the booms looks like it is miss-aligned.  I didn't believe that story until I checked it out on the P-38 that is on display in the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Oh.

Trains.com was acting up so bad this morning, Monday that I gave up on it and figured I would try tonight. No one else mentioned it. Maybe that;s why SPRay lost his post.

I haven't been having any problems with the site, certainly none that I've noticed and I was on just about all day.

Konbanwa,

I survived the marathon; thanks for all the support.  I did not do as well as I hoped but I finished.  The wind was crazy on race day and only grew stronger as the day progressed.  By the time I was two hours into the race, the winds were sustaining 30 mph and gusting around 35 mph.  I didn’t mind the cold temps but the wind and unexpected inclines broke me down.  Another factor that affected me was the amount of people stopping to take photographs.  I suppose 20 years ago this would not have been an issue, but today everyone has some nifty smartphone and it is easy to do.  However, stopping during the race to take a photograph is pretty dumb in my opinion.  I literally had to sidestep people at some of the big Tokyo attractions which took its toll on my legs around the 19.75 mile mark.  At that point I had to start walking and only jogged again intermittently.  It took me roughly 5 hours and 35 minutes to finish but the official has not been posted yet.  All in all it was a great experience: a neat way to see Tokyo with 37,000 other people.  I’ll run another marathon sometime next year and I’m glad I was able to do this one.

The rest of our time in Tokyo was enjoyable as well.  However, the day before the marathon I spent too much time walking around malls with the older son.  He wanted to visit a Lego store and I also spotted a Kripy Kreme donut shop, which I couldn’t avoid.  This excessive walking was a poor idea considering I planned to run 26.2 miles the next day.  Oh well, that’s a good lesson learned.  But those donuts were sure worth it.

I briefly the read the posts from the past few days and it appears all is well.  I don’t follow NASCAR or the Oscars do I have no input on those topics.

Sayonara,

Joe

Cloudy today and started out about 40 degrees.  Falling temps. all day, wind out of the north east, storm arriving from the south.  Snow started falling about 8:30.   Supposed to start in earnest a little after midnight and keep going until tomorrow afternoon.  Prediction is for 12" to 15".  It's that wet heavy stuff too.

Fair warning.  Airplane trivia ahead.  Stop reading here if you are not interested.

Good evening.

Got a good start on that P-38 model. It turns out that the reason it seemed like that the paint wasn't drying was that it had a dusty film. I then decided to buff it with a t-shirt, and WOW did it start to shine!!!! The paint looks like it belongs on the P-51D Mustang or the ATSF's Super Chief cars.

Getting late, night everyone.

Let me try this again,

Not being a race car fan I can honestly say, Danica who?  Gentlemen I just got a news flash, women in heretofore male only jobs are here to stay.  However, I sympathize with Fife and Pat re over kill on an also ran.

New March issue of Trains Magazine was a good one for me.  It had an article about some of the territory I used to work in when I was with the Southern Pacific, now Union Pacific Railroad.  Its about the area below sea level down by the Salton Sea in California.  They also showed a picture of a sign  on a siding named after a conductor friend of mine who died of a heart attack at this location while working on his train.  I was on a following train right behind him. I, along with his other friends errected this station sign a few months after his death.  The railroad changed the name of the siding to "Rogoza" and that name is now in the employee timetable.

The magazine also had a nice railroad map of the area where I grew up (Portsmouth, Va.) from 1954 and another one showing the way it looks now.

Lastly, there was an article about the revived steam excusions on the Norfolk Southern Railway.  I saw on another souce that they might run the 611 class J locomotive again if they can get enough private money to make it ready.  NS was sympathetic.

later,

Ray
