Happy B-Day Ray

Full.  Plenty of bar-be-que and SOUTHERN fried chicken.  Deviled eggs, veggies and etc too.  Had to help setup and take down.  Made us about the last ones to leave.

Now to rest.

Good evening all,

Windy, rainy and warm in SE Indiana with temps in the 70s.  Took it easy today after all the excitement Saturday.  Fixed a headlight on one of the vehicles.  Not much else going on.  I had cinnamon rolls on the dining car for breakfast and there will be more barrel rolls on the Tardis tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Ok I will try size 4. Nope didn't help. The tomato plants are out now. I took advantage of the 70 degrees to do that and a few other outdoor things.

Wow the Tigers beat the Yanks 3-0 and the Lions won in OT. A good sports day for the Detroit area. TTOS show was not as pleasant. 2 deaths and a car accident victim since the last show in April. Banilla will be my treat tonight as I plan on doing some loop-D-loops with the thingy...S.J.

Signing off early tonight. Weather guesser said earlier we had a 20% chance of light rain tonight. Sure can't tell it here. It's coming down in buckets and the winds gusting to 20 mph or more. Big thunderboomers moving through and the satellite dish is blacked out.

Worked on the elevators gallery a little. I knocked together six wall sections. Two on each side and one on each end. It doesn't look like much but it's a start.

Power is starting to do strange and not so wonderful things so it's time to shut down. See y'all tomorrow if I don't get washed away tonight.

Evening all!

Another busy week. Getting ready for the trip to York! The wife is coming along so this is BIG.

OU pounded Univ of Texas yeterday. Son was in town for the game so we got to spend some time with him before he headed back to Norman, OK, this afternoon. SWMBO was pleased.

The Cowgirls dropped one to the Ravens today - literally - dropped passes and capped off with a missed field goal.

Went to the State Fair of Texas last weekend. Found a great deal on an 8 x 9 garden shed. My son and I started one early summer but the summer heat, West Nile virus, and mosquitos squashed the effort after we finished the foundation. The one I bought will cost less than the materials for the one we were building, plus the one we were building had to change considerably once we got the final permit from the city. One is no longer allowed to build something nice with siding, etc., it has to all be built with fire proof materials. This means one cannot build something nice. Gosh - in the past 30 years the number of burning garden sheds in town has been an astounding - wait for it - "zero". Glad they are out there protecting us from ourselves. So anyway the contractor shows up tomorrow to build the shed and SWMBO will be pleased (this is BIG also) that the new lawnmower, wheelbarrow, garden stuff, pool stuff, etc,, moves off the back porch.

Have a great evening all!

Regards, Roy

Brent,

Got the 302 back together Friday night, but the tender wheels and contacts need a bit more cleaning to be 100%.  Runs great otherwise, but I haven't been feeling well enough to finish it the past two days.  Listed the 2245s.

Hello all

Another quiet and fairly brisk (43 deg) evening collecting photons on the mountain.

Ordered a few parts for the corvair(s). I keep "borrowing" gaskets and such I had bought for the van for the car, and now of course the van has to go back together. Finally remembered to order door lock knobs as well. The ones on the rear doors are missing and being that they have been rarely used they are a bit stiff. It takes 'fingers of steel' to pull up on the 10/24 rods.

Charlie - thanks for posting the videos! Some really nice stuff there. Didn't know Pennsy used bi-level cars.

SPRay - belated happy birthday! Just realized that if he drank cranberry juice we could call him Ocean SPRayLaugh

Brutus - hope it all turns out well w/ Chewy

V8 - I liked the pictures of the Shuttle barely missing streetlights and such. Was a bit surreal.

DJ -  continued prayers for Tyler and congrats on the job. Perhaps you can re-open Madison HardwareSmile, Wink & Grin

JimT - glad to hear the 302 is up and running!

OK, for Sunday I offer a "train related" joke (hint, hint):

Roy Rodgers and Dale Evans decided to settle down on a little ranch near Wickenburg, AZ. After working outside all day Roy often leaves his boots on the porch to air out. One night he hears a commotion on the porch and gets up in time to see a mountain lion running off w/ his boots. He decides this is a good excuse to buy a  brand new pair. A short while after getting his new and expensive boots he leaves them again out on the porch. Guess what? Again they are nabbed by the mountain lion as a chew toy. Attributing it to his own foolishness, he orders another pair of boots and resolves to be more careful. Well, lo and behold, Roy forgets one night and leaves them on the porch again. He wakes up that night to noise on the porch and realizes his mistake. He rushes out the door to seen only the tail of the cat heading into the brush. Now he is really angry. He grabs his gun and saddles up the horse and races off. Next morning Roy is riding up to the house w/ the dead mountain lion over the back of the saddle. Dale comes out and asks:

(sign along)

"Pardon me Roy, is that the cat that ate your new shoes..."

A Chatanooga Choo Choo joke!  Laugh

Spanky - good news on the job and on Tyler, keep going man!  Prayers continue for all in need.

Thanks guys, Chewy has been a great dog and we'll sure try to keep her going.  We don't want her to suffer, but if we can fix this then we probably will do it.

Ok, I got all the plumbing done on the new shower today, plus the trim/drywall around the top of course. I started caulking up the side seams and used a new silicone caulk tool that worked great Thumbs Up Pulled a 2nd tube of caulk and started on the bottom, but it was clear instead of white, so I cleaned it off. Turns out only the front tube of caulk I bought was white, the other 2 were clear - dang! Oh well, I'll have to get another two tubes so it all matches.  I need to make some long, even shims for the front so the drywall will fit nicely up the front inside edges, but that's a small job.  Kevin and I picked up 4 sheets of drywall yesterday, too, and that should be the last of it we need.  Need to get hold of a good mud and tape man.  My sister has someone she recommended.

TARDIS is ready and we have cinnamon roles and banilla, which should be good together Smile  Keep those barrel rolls coming, Mike - and big Congrats!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all, thanks again for the many wishes for a happy birthday.  I am overwhelmed.  You guys are the greatest.

Chief, good luck on the hunting.  At least you found some Bar-B-Que.  Can't go wrong with that.

I had quite a few phone calls from my siblings from different parts of the country for my birthday.  My sister with the *** cancer called from Jacksonville, North Carolina today.  That's the one I went to see last November.  She is doing great.  Although there was no talk of a cure, she has been having a fantastic year and quality of life.  She says she is walking three and a half miles a day at the mall.  Wow!  That's unbelievable.  I thought maybe I was looking at a funeral by this time.  Thank the Lord for his many blessings.  She is going up to Connecticut to spend three weeks with our younger sister next Wednesday.  She is taking some chemo but only minimal so far and the doctors seem to think her cancer has not spread anymore.  I don't know what to think now but I'll take it, whatever it is.

Had another dinner out tonight courtesy of my #2 son.  Had grilled cod, salad and baked potato.  All very good.  I seem to be losing a little weight.  Maybe 5 lbs in the last week or so.  I hope my triglyceride numbers are going down too.  I'm sure they are.  Getting used to the walking every day now which will help.

Due to a conflict of too many things going on this weekend with my grandson, we postponed our joint birthday cake until next Saturday.  So it looks like I get two birthdays this year.  The real one which I just had plus another one next week.  I'll be like Buckeye after that.

Warm weather has returned but at least nights are cool.

Have a good week y'all,

Ray

Good morning all,

Cooler in SE Indiana today with temps in the 50s.  Prayers for Tyler.  Belated Birthday wishes to SP Man.  Good to hear from Buckeye.   Like hearing the progress reports on the Corvairs from Submmbob.  Day started off well as coworker brought in a ceramic version of the Blue Comet engine that she bought at a yard sale for a dollar.  Pretty cool.  TBIL and someone else had better drive so we can recover from the barrel rolls.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' Fellas

Well I'm back at work to rest up from the weekend... gosh I'm tired.

Spent yesterday in the Sun watching The Ravens try to lose to The Cryboys and then when they couldn't get it done the refs tried to get er done but they failed too as The Cryboys seem to be in need of a kicker. Oh well, at least Christina had a good time with her aunt and cousin.

I was able to get to BestBuy yesterday and pick up the remaining banana plugs I needed. The basement now has a 50" plasma TV, HD service, and 2 front speakers. Need to eventually get 2 rear speakers and a center channel and it will be set - unless I decide to get a blu-ray player to replace the existing DVD player. Not real worried about any of that right now. Have to get the train garden done...

Got hit with some really bad news over the weekend. Our neighbor's son and his girlfriend were expecting twin girls, she had complications and delivered at 23 weeks. The little girls only lived for 13 days and passed within an hour of each other. VERY sad. Then yesterday I found out that the fella that has the PSLs to our right, well his son was killed by a drunk driver in Ocean City. Man that was hard, very hard to hear. I've been sitting next to them for seven football seasons and they are awesome people. The youngest son is really taking it hard too. Can't imagine what they are going through. On Saturday after hearing about the twins I thought to myself 'well this news typically comes in threes... I don't think I want to hear about the third' been a rough couple days. Times like these makes me very appreciative for the friends and family I have. Thank God every day for them and give my wife and daughter a hug and kiss when I wake in the morning, when I head out for work, when I get home, and before we tuck in for the night.

God bless you all and your families.

Don't you just hate that? The last time I put a a/c unit in the same thing happened to me. The first tube I picked up off the shelf was white so naturally I assumed the others behind it were also. Turned out someone had picked up a tube of white and just tossed it back down on brown. I was able to exchange the browns for white but that was time wasted on the project. Now I look carefully at what's on the shelf before picking up what should be like items.

Hi GUYZ,

Got ponds closed down for the year  Everything cleaned up and cut the reeds and cat tails down, snubbed off all the lilly pads and duck weed.  Gotta take a load off cuttings to compost center later then start the first post hole and cement in post.  This vinyl fence that I am putting in is in 6 foot sections, but each section has to be put together individually.  So you only can do a section at a time to allow the cement to harden.  Time consuming yes but want it done right. I guess its all in the pace?

I think today is the day of the Vol. II of the Lionel catalog?  I'lll check and see and report later.

SPANK and BRUTUS continued prayers.

Stay frosty my friends,

Good morning. It's 64° with 78% humidity. It'll be most sunny and the high will be 82°.

Seems like I picked up someones cold. Hopefully I can get rid of it quickly. I'll be be doing more work on the gallery structure today. I hope to get the roof sections measured out and ready to cut.

Good Morning!

Brent - That certainly is a real eye opener!  Everyday is a blessing, if only we could all appreciate them more.  Condolences for your neighbors and friends.

On a happier note;

Ray, I felt bad I missed your birthday wishes, decided I would give you a call and surprise you, but that didn't work out on Saturday.  So since you have an extended birthday celebration, I will take advantage of the opportunity and wish you the VERY BEST in BIRTHDAY WISHES!!

One thing for sure, I am getting sooooo tired of Summer!  Spent yesterday on the Steam Engine, and man was it hot!  I think I let myself become under hydrated, wasn't feeling to hot in the afternoon.  Then at break was able to "soak my head", that felt great.  But, my face became really hot and flushed as if I was on fire.  Then it did subside after about 20 minutes.  Next 3 days are suppose to be progressively warmer, so will make sure I get plenty of water.  Also, big difference will be operating the Goose, so that will be MUCH better as well.  Won't have to stay in the cab next to the boiler all day, and of course wont have all the heat from a boiler either.  Now if I could just get them to let me wear a short sleeve shirt, and a pair of cut-off Bibs, it would be great!

As October is typically the slowest month for the guys on the RR, they have a traditional "Foam Fest".  Everyone gathers at someone's house and rail videos are playing, some bring train sets, and just sit around talking train stuffs.  The event was held a couple of weeks ago, (I was unable to attend, due to my schedule.)  So, I've been asked about a open house thing, to display the layout.  So planning is in progress for next week.

I'm jealous about the pre-planning for York, sure wish I was going.  Been twice, but that is not enough!  Probably a good thing I dont live within a 1,000 miles of it, I would be there.

My buddy Bob's layout is on a material hold.  He is placing orders but this is York week, so who knows when stuff will show up.  I've been reviewing his material requirements, and helped him shave some costs.  I think I really got myself in over my head this time.  I'm not sure he will be able to run the layout once its done.  I have a feeling I will be getting routine calls "How do I do this? or How do I do that?"   But, its my own fault,, and I'm not going to leave him hanging.  Will help all I can.

My simple rewiring for Christmas lights on my layout has turned out to be a bigger task than I planned on.  Hopefully will get back to it on Thursday.

Need to hit the road, later!

Don

Aloha. Looks like everyone had a nice weekend. Just got a flu shot and blood draw at our annual health fair. Worked all our church services on Sat. and Sun, then watched our pastor's kids last night. It rained most of Sun. which the desiccated lawn and huge leaf pile appreciated. Watching Notre Dame win was the highlight of sports-watching. I did fix a dilapidated DVD player to go through a wonderful DVD of Ivor the Engine episodes.

Happy belated birthday, SP Ray!
Thrilled for your regional champs, Mike C. On to State!
The grain elevator looks neat, Jeffrey.
Bob, that was a great joke!
Laz, do you empty your ponds or just take in everything?
Chief, seeing a Wild Turkey would be great! I wonder if we have any out our way.
Prayers for Tyler's continued healing, and for Chewy's next steps.

VERY Well said, Brent

When my daughter and SIL delivered unexpectedly @ 25 weeks, for six days we had a grandson.  But then we lost him just as suddenly.   As crushed as my wife and I were, we could not even begin to imagine what my daughter and son-in-law were going through.  I was so proud of my daughter and SIL, with the courage they showed trying as best they could to move on.  Two years later we got the blessed news that my daughter was pregnant.  My wife and I are not sure we would have had it in us to try again.  But we were blessed with another child, another grandchild.

Each of us fuss and fret over yesterday, looking back over our shoulders with the poor decisions we have made and those we would have made with 20/20 hindsight.  Then alternatively we worry about tomorrow.  All the while, the joys and blessings of today are passing us by.  Some of these joys and blessings won't be there tomorrow, of that we can be sure.

Carpe diem.

Spanky.........thank you for the update on little Tyler.  Maybe you can temper his boredom and some of his discomfort with a Kindle for some "light" reading.  Prayers that he continues to improve and can return home this week. Angel  And mega congas on landing that new job!!!!  No commuter train you can (park/ride) take into NYC for your commute to the new job?   Bang Head

Brutus.......you have my prayers that you can find the means for Chewy's knee surgeries.  My wife and I faced a similar surgery issue, the quality of life concerns, and the $$$ part with one of our pups about thirteen years ago when veterinaian orthopedic surgery was nowhere nearly as advanved as it is today.  The knee surgery (torn anterior cruciate ligaments) was very successful, and she returned to her old self with complete mobility, could not even tell there had been an issue.  Our pup continued on for another 5+ years until old age and other things caught up with her pushing 16 years of age.Angel

V8Dennis......glad to hear that Cooper's ear has healed up.  I agree.  My dog makes for a better friend or relative than my friends and relatives do.  No contest. Thumbs UpWhistling

Brent.........no way I could comandeer, bribe, or cajole any more space from my wife under the Christmas tree for more than one loop.  You will have to play the Christina card. Laugh

Roy and Buckeye.....YOU'RE ALIVE!!!!!!!!  Thumbs Up  I think that just leaves JoeyD and JimSP MIA.

Jeffrey.........isn't there some clear product you can spray on your cardboard structures before you paint them so they will hold up over time?  Hope your sniffles go away.  Too much pvc and cardboard dust from your grain silo project?  Or maybe too much glue sniffing.  Laugh

Roy.......who has your back at York while the wifey accompanies you around?  You should have a couple of guys from the Pot tail you throughout the buildings, carrying out your purchasing wishes for you, having the stuff shipped to you at work.  Like a good baseball coach, you need to get the signals down.  You lay your hand on the item you want and tug on your ear and they clandestinely follow behind once you move on and execute the deal on your behalf.  My pick is AF Ray and Hudson John.  They have these clandestine operations honed to a foolproof and fine science.  Whistling

BOC......you should see the doors on my SS finish refrigerator after a visit from the grandchildren!!!  Looks like the thing got slimed right out of a scene from Ghostbusters.  Goo Gone and then Stainless Steel Magic required after they leave.  The wood furniture and floors are more problematic. Bang Head

FIFE.......arguably the Os and their fans have the most to be proud of this baseball season. And your 5-1 Ravens are on top of their stack. Thumbs Up My N. E. Patriots have now lost 3 games by 4 points. Bang Head

SJ........your sports teams are doing WAY too good!!!!  Must be disrupting your demeanor and schedule.  LIONS AND TIGERS AND Beer, OH MY!!!   Thumbs UpSmile, Wink & Grin

LAZ.........you are making me feel really bad, like a slacker, with all of the outdoor projects you are cranking out. Laugh

Rich.......did I understand you correctly?  You are back at it with the Neon? Surprise

JimmyT.......thought of you yesterday when I saw a late model Mustang GT on the highway in that darker Grabber Blue and the white stripes.  That reminded me of one of the Ford and Shelby racing color combinations of the 1960s.  The guy's grill lights and the wheels/tires he had selected were sharp, not overblown too. Thumbs Up

Bob.......re your comment on cranberry juice, did you know that Wisconsin produces the most cranberries followed closely by Taxachusetts.  If (Ocean) SPRay had celebrated his birthday this weekend properly with enough Cape Codders (vodka and cranberry juice), he would not have been up so late posting last night.   Seems Charlie was a night owl last night as well, same problem.  Whistling

Don........look at it this way.  Your friend Bob is lucky to have someone as experienced as you to help feed his train addiction.   You can always change your phone number once his layout is up and running! Laugh

Later, gang.

Lunch Time:

Quiet day here so far. Forecasting rain later.

Yesterday we welcomed my nephew Brian's wife, Leeza and daughter Lilly, into the family. Very long story, but Lilly was born in Russia and it took 16 months to get her and Mom home. She is a real cutie and has everyone wrapped around her finger. She is very independant and has to do everything herself.

DJ: Prayers for Tyler and the family and best of luck with your new job.

Brent: Prayers. You said it all.

Roy: Hope to see you in York. We, myself,my son and Ray (AF53), will be arriving Thursday Night.

Brutus: The best for Chewey.

Laz: 46 days to go!

Have a Great Day,

John

Brent - Agreed....both and Jack have said it all.

Cloudy here today in Trenton....80% chance of rain and thunderstorms....which makes me glad I didn't ride the HOG today.  I DID ride yesterday and it was nice out.  Chilly after the sun went down....but, I was prepared for that...full helmet and (retired) turnout gear plus my leather vest made it comfy.

Both the neon and the pulsar are just too expensive for me to repair and the wagon is just not very economical.  Plans are afoot.....and soon.

Well, I was going to York, but my transportation issues make this problematic....even taking the train would be a chore.....maybe April? Bang Head

Angel continue of those of us ailing and in need.....

back to the wash bay....
