Jeffrey.........isn't there some clear product you can spray on your cardboard structures before you paint them so they will hold up over time?  Hope your sniffles go away.  Too much pvc and cardboard dust from your grain silo project?  Or maybe too much glue sniffing.  Laugh

There's any number of sealers available. I'm going to spray the elevator structure with Krylon Matte Finish then go over it with Valspar Clear Flat. Same with the silos as they're painted with satin latex house paint.

Warm has returned, latest forcast is Mon.97 Tue 97 Wed. 100 and I have my cooler covered for winter but its only that hot in the afternoon for awhile. Cheapest gas, cheapest station is $ 4.55.

It's going to be a bit cooler than that here. High no more than 85 but the humidity is something you have to experience to believe. Cheapest gas here is $3.81 for premium, $3.52 regular and $3.67 mid-grade. Cheapest diesel is $3.69.

Good morning all,

Brent, condolences for your friends.  Very tragic situation.

D. Baker, thanks for the B'day wish and sorry for the hot weather while you're firing the beast at the farm.

Spanky, prayers for little Tyler and all of you to get through this.

Note: I do drink cranberry juice (SPRay) ocean spray.  I drink the low cal version of Cran Grape.

Chief, where is all the venison?  Looking for photos.  If you could just figure out how to make Carolina Bar-B-Que out of it, you would really have something.  However, I know that only oinkers will work.

Been running trains a little more lately with the cooler weather but it's heating up again so that will put me back to early morning and evening only.

later,

Ray

Good afternoon,  just got some sad news of the passing of an old friend from many years ago..  He had Lou Gehrig's disease and lasted about three years since he came down with it.  His wife took care of him 24/7 except to do shopping and chores.  This has to be a blessed relief for her.  She must be a saint.

My friend and I knew each other from since I was a senior in high school.  I met Mark on a part time job at the Norfolk and Portsmouth, Va. Ferry.  There were four of us that met there and kind of stuck together over the years.  Another friend that I came to California with came from that group as well and he passed away a few years ago.

Mark went in the service and after he was discharged, Three of us met in Los Angeles looking for careers.  That was in 1958.  He always wanted to be an actor and did perform in plays and little theatre stuff.  He even got a scholorship once to work summer stock with professionals from Broadway at Virginia Beach.  He got some bit parts and had a minor role in some movies and a little TV work but he could never make a go of it in California.  He returned to the East Coast after we had been here for a couple of months.  He came back a few years later and tried again but struck out in Hollywood.  I saw him off and on when he was passing through over the years but we were not too close.  Anyway, it's another milestone along the path of life.  I called his wife and expressed my condolences.  Too many old friends passing on lately.  Ironically, he died on my birthday Oct. 13th.  R.I.P. Mark Thomas

Evening all hope its been a better day for you all than me. I will be OK but just a nerve day for me ( guess thats what you would call it) 23 Oct is the anniversary of the day that brought on my PTSD and when it gets close I start to get edgy well today was rough as about 8am I saw one of the nurses I know wheeling a body to the morg that was part of it but I was able to handle that what really put me over was about 6:30 this evening not know back around 5:30 I delivered a meal and talked to him the patient but got no response but didn't think anything of it as it was hospice unit well when I went back up to get the tray is when I realized he was dead. I don't handle things like that well will be fine in the morning just going thru my ups and downs tonight.

Other than that I got word of my last auction win will be here Wednesday. Atlas PRR PA FM diesel and the remake of the inspection car ( red and cream) NIB the diesel needs a new smoke unit so it has been used but thats fine with me as I usually don't use smoke anyway.

not much else going on waiting for the tardis to get up and going. Talk to you all later

Prayers for Tyler and chewy

Okay hears one for your grand kids why did the train like gum

It thought it was a chew chew train ( was on a popsicle stick this evening sorry )

Good night all.  Back from Mayors' Assoc. meeting.  Had a rare thick prime rib as large as a plate.  Unbelievable. DinnerYes  Angie's in Garner, NC [home of Americian Idol Scotty] did the deed.  Wonderful hostess and wonderful meal.  Finished with a big slice of cheese cake with special whipped cream on the side.  There went my diet.  Well, had not eaten all day.  Just coffee.  SJ, eat your heart out. Whistling

Had big rains but nothing bad here.

Going hunting tomorrow around noon.  Back late.

Where is Kev?  Must be out of town.  No Yankee noise. Laugh

RT, take deep breaths.  I still see burned up bodies that look like chared dogs pulled from burning vehicles.  A dad, mom, little son and grandmother lying lifeless while we "pumped" air into a little girl who coughed over and over but never breathed another breath.  Back then, fire fighters never had "debriefings".

Sleep tight.

Got more work done on the elevator gallery today. I put several strips of plastic in the bottom to give it some rigidity as well as to support the cut down loco body that would be put in to give it some weight. The aforementioned loco body was glued in then a card stock roof was cut, folded and installed.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening,

Angel for those in need..

Jack - excellent plan - I will have to change the ear tug signal to something else - thats currently the signal for this party is over for us and time to head home!

Hudson John - will you guys make it by the CTT booth for the traditional photo? I'll be there.

Contacted JEFElectric and I think he will be able to make it Friday - he is tentative at the moment.

Looking forward to the York trip and a break from earning SS for da Chief, Ray, Chuck, and Sir James - oh LAZ too (but maybe I get a break on LAZ - teachers retirement!).

The Garden Shed is built and got a "pre-inspection" approval today. Inspector says he will sign it off tomorrow. Had a bit of a scare when it appeared the siding material might not meet code. It does (which is why the inspector dropped by to help out before it got too far along). Issue was a bad definition of the siding type on the permit. SWMBO is very pleased - lawnmower and wheelbarrow among other things are off the back porch - and in time to enjoy the cooler weather.

Have a great evening all!

Regards, Roy

Hello all

Another quiet night collecting photons on the mountain. A relatively balmy 43 deg out tonight.

Spent a few hours this morning drilling out a broken stud on the right exhaust manifold for the '65 Hardtop. We were switching out the exhaust (I gave my buddy Ron the dual glasspacks for his '65 convertible) last weekend and well,  you know exhaust work. My friend loves his air tools. Well Ron had a spare manifold (called a 'log' by Corvair folks) and got me back on the road. I ordered new packings for it, since we just crammed down the old ones, and new studs. We had a fun time clamping it to the drill press table in the vertical position. Now I'll be able to flip those out when I get home this week.  And, of course, much Corvan work.

Landlord is showing the house on Wed. so we shall see.

Brent - thoughts and prayers for your friends

SPRay - sorry to hear about the loss of your friend

DJ - great news on Tyler's coming home!

Anj - you're going to need a deep cycle trolling motor battery for the Neon. Perhaps then you could sell it as a multi-purpose bass boat? Best of luck finding a new vehicle and I'm sorry to see the wagon go,  but I understand. I just liberated myself of a few vehicles last week.

JimT - the 302 rides the rails again! Awesome!

RT - hang in there buddy. I know this is not easy. Dealing w/ similar issues myself. Unfortunately it seems the best way to deal w/ the issues of our past is to work through them in order to put things into perspective. However, bringing up the memories and living through it again is the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

Time to find something else to eat.

Evenin' All.

DJ, Great news on Tyler. Angel continue. Thumbs Up

Ray, Belated Happy B-Day and prayers & condolences on the loss of your friend.

Brent, Losses of that nature sure can make one reflect on one's life and really put things in a proper perspective.

Doug M, There are plenty of Wild Turkeys in your area and the hunting is quite easy. Just walk into the neighborhood liquor store. Laugh

Waiting-up for the better-half, took one of her friends to urgent-care a while ago. Should be home shortly, last call they were waiting for scan results.

Today was kind of a veg-out day. Friday at the museum all day, Saturday clean & service the locos and rolling stock before going back to the museum for an afternoon/evening cook-out, Sunday running again since we were short of volunteers. Friday was halloween train day, photos posted on SPF.

Nite-nite !

Chief - Debriefing???

Now our fire fighters get a councelor to come and they talk out things when they come back from a big "tragedy".  The last one here was when the three boys were killed in a Dodge Charger "flying too low" [yes it was air borne] and hit a big pine tree.  All the guys knew the teens.  Closed caskets due to body damage.  Car was unrecognizable.

Have a great day.

RT........check your email, sent you a link that may shed some light on this.  Bet it is a problem with the RCDLR as it is called, or its antenna.  Remote Control Door Lock Receiver.  Or your key fob(s) may be malfunctioning, maybe low battery related.  Did this just start happening after you took delivery?  The service guys will also be checking or re-initializing the security system with your fob(s) and keys.

Aloha from a sunny, crisp (45) Chicago where I enjoyed a TARDIS ride last night, and just spent the morning reassembling three huge glass cabinets in our reception area - didn't break any panes. Yet. Looking forward to watching the Tigers / Yankees game tonight. What a comeback for the Broncos on MNF!I had turned it off.

Jack, you beat me to it - I'll bet its a low battery in the new remote.
DougDa, I almost spit out my coffee. Great line!
Condolences to Brent and Ray on the loss of their friends.
Looking forward to seeing Roy with all you guys when they post the annual CTT Forum photo at York.

Good morning. It's 56° with 87% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a high of 82°.

If it wasn't for the clouds it'd be a nice day today. Only plans for today are get a coat of paint on the elevator gallery structure. As for the windows that are on such a structure I believe I'll paint those on as well. Cutting holes in it would only reveal the loco shell inside. Now as for plans others may have for my time, that I have little control over.

It's A Grand Fall Day In The Neighborhood,

Yesterday at 0: Dark Thirty I was greeted with 63 degrees, hit a sunny high of 75.  Clear today but somewhat cooler.  But the 5 day forecast seems to point to warmer temps, mid 60s.  Peak Fall colors are upon me and in about a week the major part of the falling leaves too.  Wifey is going out to Southern CA later today, so at least the weather will be fine for air travel on this end, non-stopper to Long Beach.  Told her youse guyz out there are warning of heat we have not seen here in the Northeast for two months.  Have to pick her up on her return flight at Boston Logan Friday morning around 5AM. Bang Head The good news, traffic is light at that early hour.Thumbs Up

RT.......I am sorry to hear that these memories bring you suffering. We guys always seem to stuff things inside, and then we find we can't let them go.  Count me among those.  You have my prayers that you find peace and that the good things in life find a way to overwhelm the bad things from the past. Angel

Spank......continued prayers for Tyler's battle.  Hope you can bring him home this week and crank up some Halloween activities.  Re the upcoming commute prospects, the furthest I had was commuting back and forth by air/rental car for a year between Seattle (Bellevue) and Boston.  Locally.....46 miles each way daily by car in Boston's putrid traffic, or the 7 years taking the commuter rail into Boston and back (and all that entails, including walking) ala DougM. An hour plus commute for me was "normal." Angel

Brent and RaySP.....the neighbor's terrible loss, the loss of a life long friend.  Angel

DougDG.........hope your wife got home OK last night and that her friend's medical issue was taken care of, was nothing too serious.

SubmmBob........what happens after all of your "housecleaning" and "de-debris-ing" if the house does not move?  You will have to "re-debris" all over again! Smile, Wink & Grin

Chief.......take the AR and a lot of loaded clips when you go deer hunting.Laugh  I agree with the others, the smell of grits on you may be giving you away.

Don't own one and do not plan of buying one.  Too much like a M16.  Even though I am a big NRA member, do not think AR's are really hunting rifles like the industry is putting on TV.  If you can't kill an animal with one shot [or put it down fast with the second], you don't need to be hunting. Nite-nite !

LaughGood one, DougDG.  Locally up my way, the police are looking for a "male driver in a black car"  who yesterday was racing up and down a street several times in successful attempts to run over wild turkeys.  A concerned woman who lived on the street watched in horror as the carnage continued again and again over the course of several minutes as the driver would disappear around a corner but then apparently turn around somewhere and take another pass..  Needless to say, the woman could do little to help out the police, could not ID the car other than the color, got no plate number or partial, and she did not call the police until FINALLY the light bulb went off in her head. DUH!  Must have had a bit too much Wild Turkey. Drinks

Like Doug said, sunny and crisp here in North Central IL.

Chief, I am here, just been flying UNDER the radar. Wink

We had a big BLOW here and some rain on Sunday and it took out a bunch of leaves and any unstable limbs so I was picking up sticks, limbs and burning leaves most of yesterday. Tongue Tied I also made beef stew and made a trip to Shorwood to drop off the ZW I got with Ken Koehler to get it updated. I also finished up putting the LW that I got with the ZW back together after gluing the case up. Come to find out Ken was bidding against me on the two transformers.Sad

I have to go get a copy of my driving record from the DMV today to turn in with the other paperwork for the part time car shuttling job at Terry Bentz auto.  Other than that not much on the plate.

RT. Hang in there man, I have been blessed. I got a good lottery number and did not have to go to Nam like so many of my friends. It left deep and large scares on some of them. Most dead folks I have ever seen are already in the box. Just my step-mom who had died at the kitchen table, She is the only one up close. Sigh

Bob, Sounds like those Corvairs keep you busy. Smile, Wink & Grin

Good to see Roy back posting. Yeah

DJ., Tyler is home!!!! Yes  Big Smile

Brent and SPRay, sorry for your friends and your loss.

Pryers for all in need. Angel
