Afternoon all didn't get done what I wanted but did get the wife to get rid of a lot of junk. (I got rid of some also) took it up to the auction house we plan to get rid of more tomorrow also filled 5 tables so far ( card tables) been trying to get her to get rid of a lot of stuff. Think I might go down and pull out the saw and work on some more of the floor did get about 2 3 rows all but the far end done so guess its time to get that done also. maybe do a few more rows.

Need to take some pics also of some stuff I'm selling on flea bay like the set box for the Hudson set.

Talk to you all later.

Good afternoon. It's 74° and mostly sunny. The high will be 79°.

Plumbing front: I'm very P.O'd with the nephew. He was supposed to fix this leaking pipe on my water heater. He didn't show. Instead he cut our mutual water line and plugged it off so he has water. Not a word about it to me. I discovered it for myself when I was packing out the laundry. I let my father know about it and he's agreed to pay for a plumber to come fix it. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Mr X. I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that one.

Before all this plumbing mess started I got a base coat of paint on the elevator gallery structure. Looks better than start white.

Good morning,

John, prayers for your momAngel.  I have a sister in North Carolina who had the same diagnosis and also stage 4 over a year ago and she is still doing great.  She has had only minimal chemo and radiation.  She is still driving herself and enjoying life.  She just left yesterday on a trip to visit our younger sister in connecticut and will also tour NYC and Boston while with her.  Her latest test indicate that the cancer seems to be disappearing or at least must be in remission.  Hope your Mom does as well.

Jeffrey, that nephew of yours needs a talking to.  Like someone else said, I wish I could help you too.

D.Baker, I'm still on the fence about Cal Stewart but I will probably go at least one day.

V8 Dennis, They had to move Cal Stewart because they could no longer afford to stay at the Pasadena Convention Center and some other issues as well.  Ontario was cheaper and a better fit.  The Raddison hotel, I think, out there is offering a great price for something like $69 per night including parking and a low price on big breakfast.  If I were going to stay for both days, I think I would stay there.  I am at the point now though where I buy very little because of no more space to put anything.  I thought about selling but just can't get motivated.  One of these days, I might get my son to help me do some selling.  Trouble is, I still enjoy running everything I have so I'm not ready to part with it yet.

Cooler today than forcast but I'll take it.

Ray

It's a drippy 62, It doesn't look like the rain will last long. Rain cancelled the Tiger/Yankee game last night. Too bad I was hoping it would be a done deal by this morning. No plans for today so I see some couch time in the near future..S.J.

Good morning all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana but should be dry in time for tonight's game.  Back is feeling much better than yesterday.  Spent hours on the phone last night with contractor, my sister and my oldest daughter.  Did get Halloween lights up outside.  TBIL and I can drive.  No barrel rolls tonight unless my own team gets a win.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a cloudy 58 degrees. Going up to 72 with some rain.

Today is a busy day. Wife is grocery shopping. I have some chores to do and then put the groceries away. Lunch and a nap will be nice.

Today, the wife and I are celebrating our 32 year anniversary. That's pretty good, considering it's the second time for both of us. We are having Bar B Q'd baby back ribs for supper.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Bob one would think if one wanted to sell the house and planned to show it the next day that they would want it looking the best possible for so called buyers. not a dust storm from there lazy repairing of window.

Anyway morning all. hope all having a good week. Time to make some breakfast, take morning pills, and then start working on floor again once I get everything cleared out of there. ( leftovers from the auction the other night.)

Hello all

Lonnnng day. Started work @ 6PM Tuesday. Managed to get less than 4 hours sleep between 8AM and 1PM and then the roof project. Got home after 9PM to find the results of the window installation my landlords just did on the house. The bedroom (and everything in it) was covered w/ plaster dust. The whole house has a thin coating. Kitchen and bathroom floor dirty and silt and debris on the kitchen counters and in the sink. This when I'm making an extra effort to keep the place clean since they are showing the house. I called them and requested they do no more projects unless absolutely necessary for the remaining time I am in the house. They also want to show the house tomorrow afternoon. I told them fine but to minimize the time they are in the house and not disturb any of my belongings. Now while I understand that projects like this are messy (I've been involved in construction and maintenance for years), it's obvious no concern or effort was made to cover anything or make a decent attempt to clean up. I used the words disrespectful and invasive in my email tonight. Hopefully they will get the hint. Can't get out of this house and away from these people soon enough. Spent the last few hours cleaning up and washing all the bedding.

Rant over.

On a brighter note we got the stuff we needed done on the roof and didn't fall off. We'll need to get new seals made of a more pliable material next year, but hopefully today's work will carry us thru the season. And the GPS re-installation went well. Here's us on the roof after the job was done. Those are sodas BTW:

Also got some Corvair parts in the mailBig Smile

Kev - fortunately here rust is not as big an issue, so older cars are much more common.

DJ - glad to hear Tyler is home!

Jeffrey - hope you get the leak sorted out. Wish I could help you out. I enjoyed working on the motorhome and trailer that I lived in at various times.

Need to take a shower and get the plaster dust and sweat out of my hair, eyes, and nose. Got another doctor's appointment in the morning. However, we will drive there w/ new chrome door lock knobsSmile, Wink & Grin

(provided, of course, that I get up early enough to put them on)

Good Evening,

Missed a few days, long days -- short nights.

Knott's News - Had my 1 year anniversary this week, my official status went from "Seasonal" to "Casual" employee status.  Primary benefit was a small raise.  (Will provide for a Blizzard from DQ for wife and myself on a weekly basis).  Also, got a couple more certifications completed, can now legally do Opening and Closing procedures for the Goose.  AND got Cart certified.  (Enables driving a golf cart in the park.)  Scheduling a "Toy Train Mania" open house event for this next week.  The guys from Knotts are going to come over an "run" trains.  Should be interesting.  I may even certify a couple of guys for operation on my layout.

Don't work again until Sunday, YAHOO!  Would be a great thing to be in York though.

Ray/Dennis, are you guys going to Cal-Stewart?

Hopefully the weather will cool down,, and this will be our last heat wave.  So in the mean time, hope all of you have a great day, and God Bless!

Edit:  Sorry about the above image hope it doesn't kill your eyes.

No sign of the nephew as yet. I wonder how fast he can find another place to stay rent free? My father doesn't play games and he doesn't make idle threats either. Looks like I may be working on repairing that pipe myself tomorrow no matter how much it hurts.

Mostly cloudy here. Weather guesser says there's a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight.

Well it's 70 right now. Not going to see many more of these days. Granny found what she was looking for. I bet most of you youngsters never saw one. A little porcelain bird that is placed in the hole of a pie after it comes out of the oven. The steam from the pie comes out through the birds beak. We found 2 different ones, she bought both of them. Afterwards she said ok we can go to the train store now. We didn't go though. I am having York pains, the same thing happened last Oct. but I really don't have a want list..Banilla is ready for tonight's thingy ride..S.J.

When we had a wood burning stove we cleaned the chimney every year because of the nature of the slow burn. I have not done it yet here and this will be winter # 6. Sounds like something I should do even tho this is a heatolator fireplace and goes through the wood pretty fast. What do you think?

Kev -- for us having that chimney swept is just piece of mind, it's $100.00 but the last thing I want is a chimney fire as there are several days during the winter that the fire dept. could never make it up our driveway.  Like you, our wood is well seasoned but I'm still surprised when they clean the chimney how much they take out, it is the slow burn that causes part of the creosote build up.

Within this next month we will see on our local TV stations chimney fires, I don't want to be the feature story on the 10:00 PM news.  I've certainly spent $100.00 more foolishly on other things (NOT TRAINS) so it's always in our Oct. budget.  It sounds to me like you are handy, you could most likely buy the brushes and just do it yourself, not that difficult.  However, it's my goal to never go up on our roof again and that's why when we got a new roof 3-4 years ago I went with the gutter/topper type covers so leaves don't build up, they work perfectly. Twenty years ago I used to borrow my neighbors brushes and do our old fireplace, quite the funny picture -- soot everywhere on me and the boss was not a happy camper with some soot in the living room, yikes!

Yeah your right Jon, you to Jeffery,

I should do it or get it done.  With the wood burner stove you could just close the doors and not make tooooo much of a mess. This thing will leak dirt into the house because it does not have a tight seal like the stove had. I used to force a chimney fire twice a year at the old house to flash out the creosote build up. It worked well with triple wall all fuel SS pipe. We have 2 wall SS all fuel pipe here and the roof is a 8-12 pitch not my favorite pitch to be on.

I also installed the gutter/topper type covers when we built this house ,just knowing where it sits in the woods. Best $3,400.00 I ever spent.

 Raining here now.  Storm

Hola from Spain.  Nice fall day here.  Only thing is, there are not very many trees here to make much fall color.

I'm starting to get un-jet lagged.

The internet connection here is kind of spotty, so I have not really been able to get caught up on the pot.

We did get the halloween layout set up for the kids program at the depot museum last Saturday.  Had about 30 kids and parents.  The kids really seemed to enjoy the train.  They really got a kick out of the Grim Reeper Gateman.  I noticed one kid watching it intently - jumped every time it opened.  Even had a parent be surprised enough to jump a little the first time he saw it open.  Watching the enjoyment was worth every penny I paid for it.

I did take pictures, but with my travel schedule, I did not have time to get them posted.  Hopefully, I can get them up on next Sunday's SPF.

All for now.

ps.  Last I knew, the Tigers were two games to nothing over New York.  What is the latest on that series?

As a retired fire fighter I find this somewhat alarming. The chimney/flue should be cleaned regularly. I recommend once a year.

Well today started rough as had to deliver breakfast to the same room but different patient but still just being in the room was like da-ja-vu but today has come to a good period at the moment anyway got home and there was my Atlas PRR FM and the remake of the inspection car red and white one. The atlas is sweet really like it its in Brunswick green would prefer the Tuscan red but this is fine. Do believe this is definitely another keeper like these Atlas engines. This makes 2 and both are PRR. Does anybody know how to get a owners manual for this engine? Well got to figure whats going to be for supper tonight. Talk to you all later

Good afternoon. 78° here heading to 85°.

Tried pulling the kitchen sink out this morning. Not happening! That baby is epoxied in there and isn't budging for anything less than a tank! So reverted to plan B. I removed the drawers and the roller mechanisms and ripped the front off the cabinet and dismantled the framework that held the drawers (four drawers stacked vertically). They WON'T be going back in. I'll put shelves in when it's rebuilt. The drawers were always in the way anytime one was open. Back to the problem. I still can't get to the pipe! It's right there in the open tucked in next to the sink. The water heater is back in the corner so I have to reach in bent foward while on my knees. Well, my foot keeps getting in the way! I can't be on both knees because the foot (in the boot of course, can't be in other way) does not bend at all and there's no ankle to bend so I end up twisted and in intense agony. I can't be on my left knee with my right foot flat on the floor because that's an impossibility. The aforementioned problems with the aforementioned  result. Same for having my legs crossed. Ain't happening! No matter what I do I feel like I'm tied up in a series of knots. I'll just have to wait for my nephew to get in from work (incredibly that's lasted for more than two weeks) and let him tackle it. I asked him to last night and he gave me a flat 'No'. I called my father and asked him if he knew anybody who can do it. 'No'. Have X (I won't mention my nephew's name here) do it. I told him he already said no. "Be right back". A little while later he calls back and says X will be there tomorrow after work. Well I found out today what was said to X. "You've enjoyed living in my rent home for eight months rent free right? You've enjoyed having the use of my truck and trailer anytime no questions asked?". X answers yes to both. "Do this or bring me my keys and get out of my house and take your junk with you.". Talk about an offer you can't refuse!

In other news Murphy messed with my vans battery. Three days in a row it's been run down. It's only two months old. I checked and made sure everything was off. No power drain. I checked the output from the regulator. 14v. Nothing wrong there. Took the battery to the parts place and had it tested. Lo and behold the tester said replace it. They did a load test on it. Absolutely failed! It wouldn't hold amperage for even three seconds! Turns out it had a dead cell with another cell showing as weak. Got a replacement under warranty. Cost was $0.00.

Had lunch at my parents place as it's a bit hard to cook here with the kitchen in pieces. I also helped my father get his RV and tag-along car ready to go in for inspection. Hardest part of that was rigging the tow bar and that was a snap.

I removed all of the shrouding on the engine and went and got some engine cleaner. Washed it all down ,blew it all off, and ran it without the covers to see if I could locate the leak. Was not hard.  Surprise The anaerobic sealant and or gasket between the top and bottom halves of the crankcase is leaking in about a 1" section. I also saw that the colling fan is cracked in 3 places so it will need one of them too. Super Angry  This will all require the removal of the engine from the mower to be benched. Bang Head So I cleaned it good with brake clean and ran a bead of Super Weather Adhesive on the seam for the rest of this years use. Wink Looks like I will have a winter project now. Tongue Tied The parts and not too bad it will just be a lot of labor, thats all.

It least I can wait, sounds like you have to push foward Jeffery.

Good morning all,

John Fullerton, sorry to hear about your ailing uncle.Angel.  Best wishes for a good recovery for your wife's knee surgery.  Have a good day at York.  Wish I was with you.

Doug in S-con-dee-dough, Congratulations on your 47th.  We just had our 50th a couple of years ago.

V8, did not see whatever post you were referring to regarding buildings on your property.  Here in Glendora, they only allow three uncluding the house, detached garage and tool shed or whatever.  Also limit on how close to property line.  Right now I'm maxed out.

I'm getting sick of eating egg beaters.  I bought too much at Costco.  At the rate I'm using them, I won't finish until Christmas.  Trouble is they have a shelf life.  That's the down side of buying in quantity.

Still walking about 30 minutes each morning.  Don't think I'm losing much weight but at least I'm not gaining any more.  Have cut way down on carbs too.  Probably eatiing too much fruit.  Sugar in that too.

Spanky, glad to hear Tyler is home.Angel.

Jeffrey, good luck with the leaky pipe.  Things like that are so aggravating.

later,

Ray

It's sure been a wonderful fall weather wise here.  I thought we would have a poor showing for fall colors because of the weird weather this year but since last Thursday our leaves have just been spectacular.  We basically live in a forest and it's great, what's not so great is getting rid of two acres of leaves near our home -- the other 3 acres can just go away naturally!

Jon, You can say that again, Same here, about two acres around the house to deleave about everyother day.  Dead I just did 6 loads in the sweeper and am watching the fire.

I think it's time we load up the wood rack near the front door, the chimney sweep was here last week so we are ready to burn some good hard woods.  I think I mentioned before that about 5-6 years ago we installed a high efficiency Jotul insert into our old drafty fireplace opening.  That was some of the best money we have ever spent, it has a variable speed fan on it and we can make it very cozy in here with very little effort.  I have about two years worth of wood stored up and we need to use it before I cut any any more, I cut and split way to much wood two years ago, hindsight is always 20/20.

When we had a wood burning stove we cleaned the chimney every year because of the nature of the slow burn. I have not done it yet here and this will be winter # 6. Sounds like something I should do even tho this is a heatolator fireplace and goes through the wood pretty fast. What do you think?

Good morning all,

........RT, thanks for sharing your experiences.  We are all here for you.  Chief, some appropriate and painful recollections as well.  DJ, good news about Tyler.  My thoughts on all of this are very simple.  Into each of our lives comes various events, some unexpected.  In the past few months I have endured an incredible sorrow which I have alluded to but not described here, and in the past few weeks, I have enjoyed one of life's triumphs. Both have caused tears to fall like rain for vastly different reasons.  The question you have to ask yourself is how much do you want tobe a part of life.  If you open yourself to enjoy the good, the pain will flood in as well when the bad comes around.  Keep on training.......

Mike C. from Indiana

Well said, Mike, and something I need to keep in my mind, front and center. Thumbs Up

RT......hope the sunrise this morning finds you in good spirits with positive thoughts.  One thing is for sure.  What you do for a living every day has a positive impact on many peoples’ lives and adds to their quality of life.  Not many of us can claim that.

Brutus......what did they have to do to repair that water leak in your truck?  New window gasket?  That brings back fond old memories of my youth when the rear windows on aging and rusting American cars would eventually leak horribly and fill the trunk up with water.  Bet a bunch of you guys remember when we were lucky if our $50 beaters could just get us where we were going and get us there dry.  I had a rusted out 1963 Chevy Biscayne Air V8 with a three-on-the-tree that was a rust bucket.  I had to drill a few holes in the floor of the trunk to let the water out, taking particular care to avoid drilling a hole into the top of the gas tank. WhistlingLaugh

Bob........your scheduled antenna work today 70 feet up has me thinking of that line in the movie, Secretariat, when Big Red was about 30 lengths in front in the 1973 Belmont Stakes:  “Ronny..... just don’t fall off!!!”  And your upcoming Corvair Club road trip this weekend in your buddy’s Corvair convertible to Kitt Peak reminds me of the 1960s TV show Route 66.  That show was about two younger guys Tod and Buz with no substantive and visible means of financial support who drive all over the States in a brand new Corvette convertible, and a new one each TV season no less. Surprise  JimmyT, while a Mustang would have been more practical for Tod and Buz' purposes, they weren't released until 1964 I think.  I read somewhere that Corvette sales doubled while that show aired.

Jon.......how often do you call in a chimney sweep to clean and check things out?  It has been a few for me.  Gotta get on it!  To-do list grows by one.  Ever notice how wives never seem to appreciate the many things we do (or have done), always focusing on the things we have not crossed off of the list.  They must assume this kind of stuff just takes care of itself. Bang Head

V8.......[tup] on Cooper's followup visit with the vet.  Hopefully no further visits are required.

Well, yesterday the wifey handed me a big pile of her dry cleaning (Winter wardrobe stuff) before I took her to the airport.  Just dropped it off.  This tab will be in the three digits and will keep a bunch of people employed and busy for a few days.  Bang Head

SOMETHING TO PONDER FOR THE DAY:  and followup to last night’s 4.0 earthquake here.....the worst earthquake ever experienced here on Cape Ann Taxachusetts occurred in 1755 and measured 6.2 on the Richter scale.  That was before the American Revolutionary war, so I will have to depend on the older guys on the POT to fill me in on what it was like back then. Whistling  We do get an occasional 2.0, nothing by the California Boys RaySP, DougDG, and V8Dennis’ standards.  They probably get one of those every week and take no notice until something falls on top of them or they drive their car into a sinkhole.  Another thing bothers me.....how did they measure the severity of such things back then?  The Richter scale was not invented until the 1930s.

Later, gang.
