Lunch Time:
One more day working and it is off to York Thursaday evening. I need the break.
After school last night Yahoo Messenger would not cooperate so I missed the Tardis.
Brent: Quick thinking with the Q. But if she is like my wife she would have seen right thru it and let you think that you got away with it and told you about it after you thought you were in the clear.
Fife: Too bad about York!
John F: Hope that Jean's knee works out well. Prayers for Uncle Bud.
Jeffrey: Good luck with the plumbing.
Chief: That sounds like my deer hunting trips. That commisioner is a Wise Man.
Dougdagrump: Happy Anniversary.
RIJack: LOL about the earthquake. I agree with you with the use of the crate.
Brutus: Good Luck with Chewey.
SJ, I had a good chuckle hen I read about the Chief and the Grits.
Laz: See you at the Round the Clock. 44 days to go!
Have a Great Day!!!
John
Greetings Y'all From Cool, Clear, And 48 Degree Crisp Cape Ann Taxachusetts,
Its a beautiful Fall day here in the Northeast U.S. of A. I survived last night's 4.0 earthquake which is all the buzz in these parts. The epicenter was up in Maine 20 miles due West of Portland and was felt as far as three states South in Connecticut. I have made a quick check of Fort Rock Island but have not yet found any damage.
I leave my cell phone on 24/7 and next to me/on me (even by the bed overnight) so that no matter what, I am available for some of my elderly family members in the event of an emergency, "on call" so to speak. At about 2AM the cell is dinging and I start receiving text messages. It is the wifey who is in balmy Southern California (three hours behind!! ). She is at her hotel (Irvine?) and for some reason only known to women she felt compelled to give me the shocking news that the 405 was a veritable parking lot most of the way from Long Beach airport to the hotel. "Dear, it has always been a veritable parking lot for the better part of 4 decades. What else is new?" I think she was just checking up on me, but for the life of me I don't know why. More likely, she misses me terribly and just can't stand to be away from me. Yup, that's got to be it.
Spanky.....so glad Tyler is home. I was so busy reading your update I missed the first line of your post, that he is home! I was also glad to hear the Docs were spot on (last week) when they looked at all of the issues being treated and still accuratetly had targeted his release day. It reinforces the wisdom of your decision, Sloan. Hang in there, buddy. Tyler is a trooper and is doing his part.
Jefelectric....was sorry to hear your Uncle Bud is in a bad way. for him, you, and the family. The updated and good news on Jean's recovery from the knee procedure two weeks ago must be a weight off your minds. If you are not careful, she will insist the two of you start exercising together.
BOC......sorry to hear about the insomnia thing, but the tradeoff is temporary and well worth it. Consult SJ and Chuck about the fine art of naps, or the Chief on reclinerizing.. I have always been a very light sleeper and when my sleep is interrupted by the slightest thing I find myself dragging the next day. continue for your complete recovery!!!.
Jeff.....was sorry to hear your pipe from the hot water tank sprung a leak and the city's cut-off at the street wouldn't fully shut things down. No water shut-off in the house? Now what? Duck tape or electrical tape don't work as a temporary stop gap, though if you could get the water completely shut off and the pipe dry, the pinhole could be soldered. More leaks in your future?
Jim/Brutus......I was floored by the very reasonable price tag estimate from your vet on Chewy's upcoming bilateral knee repairs October 23. I was expecting a price tag of about 5 times as much. If you have a dog crate that sure would go a long way (and very short $) to keeping Chewy calm post-op for the prescribed recovery time, overnight and/or when no one is at home.. If Chewy is a furniture dog or is prone to slipping on smooth floors, running around the house, you surely don't want to ruin the surgical work. My wife and I over the years have found dog crates to be life savers.....during housebreaking, after surgery, while training a puppy, while training a "chewer" of our stuff, when they get a loose back or front end, dealing with temporary or permanent incontinence, in the car or when we take our pups on road trips or visits, and the list goes on.
RT........hope the keyless entry issue with your new ride has been ironed out by the dealer. Since you and I both share the same ride, please feel free to bounce issues/concerns/possible causes/solutions off me. I am by no means mechanically inclined when it comes to things automotive but I read the SRX forum daily and might be able to point you in the right direction.
Brent.....so you dropped a dime on poor LAZ and blamed him for your Thomas plans with Christina. Diversionary tactic. I like it!!! The Q will be none the wiser.
KEV.......how on earth did you get your entire DMV driving record for only $12? The paper to print it all out must have cost at least that much.
Got an errand or two to run!!! Later, gang. Hope all of you YORKIES HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s. Wow, some heavy news here lately. Work was very busy yesterday and I had a game last night so that is why I was a no poster. RT, thanks for sharing your experiences. We are all here for you. Chief, some appropriate and painful recollections as well. DJ, good news about Tyler. My thoughts on all of this are very simple. Into each of our lives comes various events, some unexpected. In the past few months I have endured an incredible sorrow which I have alluded to but not described here, and in the past few weeks, I have enjoyed one of life's triumphs. Both have caused tears to fall like rain for vastly different reasons. The question you have to ask yourself is how much do you want tobe a part of life. If you open yourself to enjoy the good, the pain will flood in as well when the bad comes around. Again, too much deep thinking for a mid week conversation. TBIL and I can drive. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Sure hope everyone has a good time at York, it's a special place to be sure. It's been 6 years since we made the trek east and we want to come back soon. This fall weekend just doesn't work out for me as I have a major commitment judging on Friday & Saturday so maybe next spring? That particular competition always falls on the York week and I hope to do it for two more years.
It's sure been a wonderful fall weather wise here. I thought we would have a poor showing for fall colors because of the weird weather this year but since last Thursday our leaves have just been spectacular. We basically live in a forest and it's great, what's not so great is getting rid of two acres of leaves near our home -- the other 3 acres can just go away naturally!
I think it's time we load up the wood rack near the front door, the chimney sweep was here last week so we are ready to burn some good hard woods. I think I mentioned before that about 5-6 years ago we installed a high efficiency Jotul insert into our old drafty fireplace opening. That was some of the best money we have ever spent, it has a variable speed fan on it and we can make it very cozy in here with very little effort. I have about two years worth of wood stored up and we need to use it before I cut any any more, I cut and split way to much wood two years ago, hindsight is always 20/20.
Safe travels and great buys to everyone headed to York.
Jon

Prayers for Uncle Bud. Brutus, great news about Chewy operation. Happy 47 years, DougDa! Sorry my laws are causing havoc, Jeffrey. They usually target Buckeye. Sun and clouds, 59 degrees going to 70 then late rain and colder tomorrow here in North Central IL.
Got to put my SS card back in the safe deposit box and mail a bill. Then no real plans unless the phone rings and I have to go drive.
Bob, I think your right about driving older cars but with IL road salting they never get too old if you drive them everyday. My only car project these days is trying to keep black clean.
DougDG for the 47 years of bliss.
Chief, meetings = free food? You must be beefing up for winter.
Brutus, Best of luck with Chewy's opperation.
Prayers for all in need.

Well, good to see that I am not the only person up at strange times...dang chemo induced insomnia....
We are getting rained and winded on again...after a mainly dull day blossomed forth with sun..in time for sunset....
This morning will be rainy and cold as well as windy..supposed to stop raining later in the morning and be variably dull for the rest of the day...

Hello all
Last night for this shift collecting photons. I will stick around tomorrow for a bit to help replace a couple of the roof seals. Was up there tonight making some measurements for the GPS antenna that I need to re-install tomorrow as well. With the clouds coming in from Hurricane Paul it was quite the impressive sunset. Sorry guys, no pictures, didn't have the camera on me. Will take some pics tomorrow though of our antics 70 feet up @ 10,500' elevation.
Kev - I'm one of the few people crazy enough to drive a 47 year old car as regular transportation. Fortunately, due to my job I don't have to drive the cars that much anyway. But yes, they can be a handful. Personally, I'd rather do this than pay for and drive a newer car. The new ones just don't excite me.
SJ - "she fed me home made bean soup and then chili"...uh, oh
Chief - I trained w/ the M-16/AR-15 and consider it a poor weapon for several reasons. Some questionable safety issues for starters. I actually trained w/ the initial version of the M-16 (not the A1) that was not accepted until the bolt forward assist was added. We were not allowed to fire them. Assembly training only. I've heard some of the newer versions are better, but I don't have much experience w/ them. I think their popularity stems from 1) it's what the military currently uses (which, as we know, isn't always the best) and 2) "they look cool". Wish they would have come up w/ a military version of the Mini 14. As always, though, just my
Anj - you've certainly made the most of your Neon. Hope you manage to cull the heard and find some better wheels soon.
RIJack - my lease is up at the end of the year anyway. I will be moving sooner or later, so I'm using this as a good reason to trim down some of my projects and focus a bit more. I have a bad habit of jumping into another project before finishing the current one. Helps me to be a bit more fiscally responsible and reduces stress.
The Corvair club has a trip to the Kitt Peak observatory this Saturday that I am leading. Hopefully, I will get a chance to ride there in my friend Ron's new covertable (the one that got my glasspacks). One of the guys is buying one of my radios as well (1927 Atwater Kent). Otherwise this next week off will be dominated by the "get the Corvan back on wheels" project. Will also flip out that exhaust manifold on the hardtop. I'll try and post a daily pic of the van project so you guys can have something to laugh at

GREAT NEWS on TYLER! So glad he is home, Spanky! Great talk tonight, man - prayers continue!
Had a very nice chat with SJ and Spanky tonight - no world problems solved, but some good time.
Prayers out for Brent and Ray's friends. Jefelectric - prayers for your uncle and for your wife's surgery!
Jeffrey - yeah, lesson learned!
RT - prayers, brother.
Big storm is coming tomorrow, but the truck is fixed so no more leaks - took it in yesterday. We talked to the vet today and Chewy will get her knees "surged" on the 23rd. The kids have a couple days off school after that and hopefully she will be okay on her own during the days the next week. It's going to cost $1K and that seems reasonable for the surgeries they are doing. I was really afraid it was going to be a lot more than that.
The TARDIS is ready and we have cookies, banilla, and other goodies - let's get going.
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
dougdagrump .........Take out for dinner, was supposed to take her out for an anniversary dinner. 47 years today, smartest thing I ever did. .........Jack, You guys doin' a bit of rockin-n-rollin up your way today ? .............We topped out at 101* today, the humidity was down but it was still hot. DougDG.....you struck three chords with your post!!!!
First, happy 47th anniversary to you, and condolences to your bride!!! I think it was very thoughtful of you to have a nice, quiet, and romantic (take out) dinner at home. Who says you don't have an imagination that keeps things fresh and exciting?
Yes, we did get hit with an earthquake up my way at 7:15PM Eastern time tonight, and the whole house shook!!! The quake epicenter was near Biddeford Maine, about 80 miles due North of me, and it measured 4.0 on the Richter scale. Minor damage has been reported as far South as Boston, about 20 miles to my South. I will be checking for foundation and plaster cracks in the morning. And wouldn't you know it.....the wifey is out of town!
And where would she be? Why, in earthquake central, Southern California, of course!!! Her plane just landed in Long Beach. And what do you think she is texting me about? "How is Maximus, was he scared, is he OK? Do you know it's going to be 93 out here tomorrow?" I should have told her that her entire shoe collection was wiped out in the quake and it is not insured.
Later, gang.
ChiefEagles Back from the hunt. No deer. They are there, just too much Wild Turkey! 4 turkeys right under my stand, a rabbit runs from the woods into the cotton field and lots of squirrels eating the corn in the feeder. One squirrel ate for over an hour. Can't believe he could climb a tree after that meal. That is what he thought about you after that Prime Rib Free meal. Got to chat with RT while driving home [4 Runner has bluetooth so hands free]. 4 Runner??????? How much USA Content is in that thing????? My buddy that went with me [first time we have hunted together] bought me a new bacon portabella cheese burger at Wendys. Pretty good. They look good too. but no Wendy's around here. Now for a rest and TV. [no, not watching the debate]. The mind is made up. Better get a MRI like SJ to see what is left in there. An African-American County Commissioner [PHD] told me two years ago when he got on the Commission. Frank, people may be on different sides but if they sit down and talk to each other, they will find they have a lot in common. You build on that. Then you get things accomplished. Wise man. Sounds like it to me too. Meetings all day tomorrow. Sleep tight.

Murphy is alive and well and living under my kitchen sink. The outlet pipe on my water heater sprung a leak a few hours ago right where the pipe goes into the water heater. I turned the water off at the road but Murphy apparently has an address there too. The valve won't cut off all the way so there's a trickle getting trough. Just enough to build up pressure and spray out in a mist. If I'm not online tomorrow you know why.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Handed in all of my paper work today at 11:30 AM and got called out on a shuttle run at 3:00PM .
A quick run to Bolingbrook Auto Arena with two other guys to pick up two cars that did not sell. I could see why the one I brought back did not sell, it lit up every warning light on the dash before I got it back. SO I am now working for minimum wage again, first time since 1968.

It's 54, wasn't a bad day but summer is gone. Well as expected I got leftovers for supper. I'm not telling you she fed me home made bean soup and then chili. I finished pulling out the tomato plants this afternoon, Got a lot of green ones to ripen indoors. Seems like I just planted them. Tigers take on the mighty Yankees tonight at Detroit. They start in about 5 minutes. No banilla for me but I got plenty for the thingy crew...S.J.
Good afternoon gang,
Brent, That looks like a great Christmas gift choice. I think Lionel may sell quite a few of those to Fathers around the country.
As I noted on the York thread, I will be coming to York for one day on Friday. Jean had a knee replaced on the 4th and I have been pretty busy, cooking keeping the house in order and helping her with getting around and doing her exercises. She insisted I spend a day at York so I gave in to her.
On a sadder note, my uncle, an ex railroader with PRR and Amtrak, who is 93 is in very bad shape. I did slip away to visit him in the hospital for a short time yesterday. He was like a second father to my when I was young as my father was not much of an outdoors enthusiast. Uncle Bud was the one that I spent many days with fishing on the Susquehanna.
Afternoon FellasThank you for the prayers - they are definitely needed.Laz - TheQ is upset with you and me. Seems my little venture into the basement with Christina on Saturday has perked her intrest in trains. I was looking at the Lionel Catalog last night when Christina came into the office and climbed up on my lap. As soon as I clicked on the page with the new Thomas Remote Control set Christina went bonkers! TheQ came in to see what all the commotion was and when she saw what Christina was looking at she said "Oh great! And just how did you find this?" - "Laz from the train forum posted that the new catalog was online"... "I don't like him either now". BUT it looks like I know what Christina is getting for Christmas!
laz - Looks like I'm gonna miss YORK this go 'round. My folks are coming in Friday, and youngest princess's birthday Saturday. Give everyone a hug and kiss for me.
On the hunting seen I haven't been in years and I mean years like about 30 lol but I still don't believe in where these guys run around in trucks and radios and all to hunt. I was brought up in PA. where we would stake out and sometimes have some one go out and try to stir them up to get them moving so they would head toward where we were staked out.
On the train side the 50 gang car has some type of grease in it that I need to get out and and then re-lube and oil where need be and I believe it will run fine it runs now but it gets hot fast from straining I guess with that heavy grease thats in it. Needs a good cleaning ( the orange shell ) and believe will make a nice addition to my collection.
Hope all having a good day time to go take a shower and get ready to goto the auction for the wife.

I think the only time hunting with a AR would be a good thing is if someone was hunting me.
Windy and a nice 70 degrees here in North Central IL. I got my driving record from the DMV. $12.00 to get a sheet of paper that only said end of record. I was shocked to find that there was only one guy and I at the DMV. I even took a newspaper for the wait.
