Afternoon.  Headed to shower to get this paint off of me.

Great news Kev on Daughter's job.  Still say your Wifey is to pretty for your old mug. Wink

Ceiling up and painted.  Lowes said one gallon.  I bought two.  One coat on and 1/2 ceiling with second coat [needed] and ran out of paint.

Kev: Glad you daughter got a job. I hope it lasts a long while.

Went to town this morning with $40 in my pocket. Used $20 at the Office of Motor Vehicles to renew the Firefighter license plate on my van for two more years. I may not work on the trucks anymore or help at fires but I still help out at the station with training when I can. Plus they didn't have the heart to pull my membership when I retired and let me keep my badge. I've been there so long that when the badge was issued the number on it was #3. We didn't even have a station back then, just a box full of papers and training manuals. The station was built in 95 I believe. That sounds about right as I'd recently purchased a Pontiac Sunbird. Well, enough on the past. After wrapping up my business at the OMV I went to the New Llano post office and spent $7 sending off a package. From there to the gas station to spen the remaining $13 on gas. A whole 3.439 gallons. That'll last about a week in the back and forth between here and the parents place. I received two nice looking coins in the mail today. They're just gold layered proofs. One is a 1854-S Double Eagle and the other is a 1933 Saint-Gaudens $20 commemorative. It's my introduction to the $100 million American Gold Classics collection. I don't know yet whether I want to keep them or send them back. I have two weeks to think about it.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  As good as the month has been for SFHR, it has been as bad for AJ's team.  Speed seems to be a problem for them and the second string is faster than the number one.  Go figure.  Got my ears lowered last night, but got little else accomplished.   TBIL and I left the keys under the seat.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning all,

Santa Fe Steam engine #3751 departed L.A. yesterday morning and arrived in Parker, Arizona at 11:30PM with a bunch of tired people.  It will continue on today to Williams Arizona and ultimately on to the Grand Canyon on the GGRR right of way.  Lot of pictures on different railfan websites fortunately for me because I was unable to see any of it.  Had my fun the last time they ran it to the canyon though a few years ago.

Finally!!  I got my appointment with the gastrointeroligist moved up from 5-29-12 to tomorrow due to a cancellation.  Hope the doctor can figure out what is wrong with my G.I. system.  I could use some professional help at this point.  I was on the verge of seeking a new doctor when this appointment came through.

Jack, re wire brushing on porcelain grill tops, the maker of my grill sells wire brushes they recommend for it so I guess they would be OK.  Re cooking time, slow seems best.

Fifey, re NS Heritage engines my favorite is the original Norfolk Southern unit #8114.  It is gorgeous and the best looking one in the bunch IMHO.  Pennsy has class too.  Take a look at NS 8114 if you get a chance.  The Nickel Plate engine is nice too.

Warm weather is here to stay now I think until the fall.

Chief, congratulations on finishing the roof in the box.  Waiting for photos and layout construction.

later,

Ray

Good afternoon,

Think I just set a recent history record, on the coffee pot two days in a row. Haven't done that in quite a while.

They Sun has been out for about an hour, but more rain is on the way.  Think I will take a short walk and enjoy the sun while it is out.

Lunchtime:

A rainy busy day here.

AF53, Ray on the lookout for it.

RI Jack, I have to admit that I am fortunate to have the wife that encourages me and my son in the hobby, in fact she does enjoy it to a degree. My wife is Ray's sister and we do a bit of covert operations when I go over budget on purchases. A lot of his acquisitions get delivered to my house. We do have a lot of fun trying to get one over on the wives.

Jack, the story about me and the Shelby and my other cars, I would have to have a wharehouse to store all of the "collector cars" that I owned. The Shelby was a very unique one. I had it 5 years. I paid $2200 for it and sold it for $8800. That is what it went for in 1979. The car resurfaced at the Atlantic City Antique/Classic Car Auction in 1990. That car went for $44,000 then. I thought I did good selling it in 1979.

V8 Vega, 67 Ranchero with a 390, NICE. A 28 Ford with an Olds stuffed in it, COOL.

ANJDevil, Rich, keep on the watch on the company website. 1 opening for here soon and another in a few weeks.

Thoughts and prayers for all in need.

Have a Great Day.

Rush through.  Ceiling up and calked.  Break and then paint.  Had to turn A/C on as humidity was up with off and on rain.  A/C works great.  Photos later.

fifedog

Well, the Fifepup made it the prom.  His Blindfold-date was a whole head taller than he was.  About 15 couples crammed onto the pink party bus.  Got the "come-and-get-me" call at 0345 hrs.  He said he had a good time.  Next up, graduation.

Fifey, things seem to "line up" just right at certain times so I would not worry [or maybe you should]. Surprise

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Hazy/Overcast Taxachusetts,

About 60 now, 70 later, same temps the next few, with rain into Thursday.  As much rain as we have had recently, year-to-date we are still 5+ inches behind.  The 1"-2" forecast over the next couple of days will close the gap, and the brush fire alerts have gone away. Zzz

Thumbs Up Wife wants me to take over responsibility for regularly brushing Maximus the dog's teeth.  Wants to keep them all intact and pearly white.  Vet warned us we were slacking off in this regard during our last $ fleecing routine visit.  Maximus doesn't like the brushing part, but he does like the meat or chicken-flavored doggy toothpaste.  Since Pam does all of the baths, brushing, and nail grooming, I guess I need to just shut up and do it, do my part. Bang HeadZip it!

I'm thinking there are three wives named Pam hooked up to you/us knucklehead POT particiapants.  Chief, me, and LAZ (?).

AF Ray and HudsonJohn......how do the two of you keep acquiring additions to your train empires without the wives becoming the wiser of your clandestine activities????  Smile, Wink & Grin  Sounds like Special Ops.

Fife.....you are a good Dad, serving as Fifepup's prom transportation.  And he is a good son, accepting it.  Up my way, this is the time of year when our local news is usually reporting on a few fatal, prom-related traffic accidents followed by the tears, shrines, vigils, counselling, and sadness......but it has been quiet this year so far.  Hope it stays that way.

RT.........I was touched and close to tears when I read how you fretted over and sacrificed for your wife's Mothers' day gift.  The thought behind the gift and the heartfelt way in which the gift was given is a lesson to us all:  one can give the wife a train-related item and live to tell about it.  With the GG1 you spared no expense. WhistlingBig Smile  Then there was KEV who showed us how setting the mood with women is all-important......a hot bath and beers!Beer  I am proud to know two such conniving sneaky underhanded thoughtful husbands.  Smile, Wink & Grin Dennis, you may want to take notes.  While dining room sets are a more obvious, easy choice, they are not nearly so beautiful and practical. Whistling

Congratulations to the Metropolitan NY boys/fans on the Rangers' victory last night over the Devils.  Rich?  My condolences.  Big Smile  On an even sadder note Smile, Wink & Grin, was quite disturbed that Fife's Os beat up on Rich's, AF's, the Chief's, and JoeyD's Yankees last night in Baltimore while the Red Sox won their 4th straight impressively.  The Sports Illustrated baseball experts have vaulted the Red Sox up to 7th in the Power Rankings, mistakenly thinking that the team is resurrecting from the dead and is going to continue this trend.  They ain't. Bang Head  And MikeC......I know how emotionally invested and torn you are with all of this baseball and hockey news.  Cheer up.  Whistling

Dennis........thanks for the tip about carrying the camera instruction manual with me.  I have it in the bottom of the camera bag and also take the 55-200MM lens with me to supplement the 18-55MM when needed.  But the instruction manual is useless unless I read it and play with the camera.  The D3100 is not up to the level of your D90 but is light years better than my Sony point and shoot.

What I find particularly disappointing is how folks whom I know show up at this event and that, see I have my camera with me, ask me to take a couple of photos of them and send them via email as an attachment, then don't have the common decency to take the time to thank me.  All they have to do is hit the reply button for the email I sent them with the pictures and say a couple of words.

The most recent escapade a few weeks ago involved an event organizer whom I know very well.  She was in a panic, a pickle, saw I had my camera with me, and asked me if I would bail her out and take photos......an event detail she had forgotten.  To help her out I figured....sure, I would do it.  I took 90 shots, photoshopped them for perfection (that took a couple of hours), then delivered them to her on a flash drive.  Never heard another word.  Wasted time and effort, and now I am short a flash drive to boot. Bang Head  I couldn't even enjoy the event because I was too busy taking photos for her. Bang Head  I AM ON STRIKE!!!!

KEV and HudsonJohn......as happy as I am for both for your having owned Shelby Mustang GT350s (1967 and 1969, respectively), I am saddened that they don't currently reside in your stable.  JimmyT is probably shaking his head right about now and wondering "What on earth were they thinking when they let these cars go?"  Personally, I think of you two guys every time I watch these cars on the auction block on TV at the Barrett-Jackson and MECUM auto auctions.  It is one thing to own a piece of muscle car and racing history but quite another to have one with the Shelby name on it.  I at least had the foresight to hang on to my 1969 350/350 small block Corvette.  Son last night observed to "Mommy" that we need to have the car restored so that he she can tool around in it.  Since it isn't a large block, we will be putting roughly $15 grand in a car that will be worth only a tad more when it is completed and back on the road, because it is not as rare as the solid lifter LT1s or a large block 427.  But at least we can spend our later years tooling around in something we can enjoy.  If I am sounding like I am trying to financially justify this expense, I am. Smile, Wink & Grin  How am I doing?  Laugh

Chief......you are really picking up "steam" on the BOX (Wrecktangle). Thumbs Up

SP Ray......glad to here you are keeping the tummy in check. Thumbs Up  Re the recent grilling success, remember that slower is better.  You can't uncook something but you can always cut into it and cook a tad more if necessary.  Often I find that the steaks and chops continue to cook a tad more right after I take them off the grill.  Someone asked about what damage the wire grill brushes do to the porcelain-coated grates.  For me, nothing.  Once scraped and oiled up, they look and perform like new, year after year.  SJ mentioned dropping a sheet aluminum foil on the grates, closing the lid, and cranking the temperature all the way up......great idea Thumbs Up, keeps the heat reflected back down on the grates and incinerates any left over food gunk.  Just keep the temperature cranked until there is no smoke eminating from the grill.

JohnnyF..... Thumbs Up on your granddaughter's culinary interest and expertise.  My daughter has the same non-genetic interest; and her preparations have me eatiing, and enjoying, foods I would not touch previously with a ten foot pole.  Weekend before last she came over with the SIL and grandchildren and whipped up a fish dinner that left us all overstuffed.  Cooked everything on the stovetop.  Did you ever eat something that no matter how much you eat and how stuffed you are that you can't stop eating it?

LAZ.........t-minus 14 days and counting?  YAHOOOOOOOOO!!!!  Thumbs Up

JEFF.......bet the Packard engine parts are rarer, difficult to find, AND pricey.

SubmmBob......any updates on the Corvair, or its impact on your social life? Whistling

KEV....... Thumbs Up on your daughter's new home.  Thumbs Up on your son's revelation, wifey must be truly touched by his words; and I bet they were heartfelt, somthing he has been mulling over for a long time but was afraid to express.  Your cup runneth over......this week. Thumbs Up Big Smile  BTW......methinks your wifey is throttle happy, seems like her left hand had the trains running at about 200MPH scale.  Thank you for the classic photo of her.  That is one I would be inclined to blow up, frame, and hang on the wall in the train room. Thumbs Up

Brent was going like a ball of fire on his layout and then fell silent.  Wonder if the Beemer expenses derailed his progress. Sad

Later, gang.

As Doug said, nice day again today. Paradise

I will be getting everything ready for the trip up north today. We will leave about 5:30 am tomorrow.

It will be good to be away from the Chicagoland area over this weekend. Sounds like they will have more nutcases than normal for a few days.  Laugh

I got my new vertical fuel storage tank decaled over the weekend and placed it with the other one on the layout. Now I need to figure out a containment system for them to keep the EPA off my butt. Confused

Doug I loved that 69 Shelby but when I moved from home the INS went so high I had to sell it. Sad

Hey SJ, I think my 9:20 PM is your 10:20 PM? Right? Wink

66 with bright sun this morning. The plants survived their first nite in their new home. I have just been informed that we are going to Walmart this am. Granny is trying to find summer clothes but nothing seems to suit her. A couple years ago I drove her 60 miles to a large outlet mall, came home with nothing and then she bought everything at a Dress Barn 3 miles from the house.....Kevin sorry we missed you but most of us don't jump on the Tardis till after 10 pm eastern....S.J.

Aloha Paradise. Had a good birthday even though I had to work. Big Smile Got a new beer bottle 'jacket' for the Chicago White Sox from one son and a copy of Tom Swift and His Jetmarine from the other. (I like those old stories) And some clothes. (Yuck)  We'll go to the LHS on Friday for a little something with flanged wheels. Then had a nice dinner. Beautiful day again today. Three days until the NATO Summit here - where the city is essentially shutting down from Fri-Mon, Hosting a ton of visitors today.

Dennis, it sure is interesting to hear how a real shutterbug does things
Kev, it's great seeing Sandra enjoy 'her' car. That Shelby Mustang must've been something. I loved them from afar.

Good morning. It's 71° and mostly sunny. The high will be 82° and it'll be mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

On the schedule for today is a trip to town to renew the registration on my van, get some gas and go by the post office to ship out a package. Whatever happens later will come as it may.

Good Morning CTTFans!

It's 42F and clear here heading up to the low 80's again today.  Bunny, what bunny?  So far it has not shown up in our yard since I took away it's safe spot under the shed.  Saw a coyote on the way to work so the bunny better stay close to it's new safe spot or become a fast food meal.  Got the first day of our Wichita Trip posted on my blog <click here> but here is one shot I took on Day #1 I think all will enjoy.

Mornin' boys.  Hey! Sigh Who ate all the Cake?  Seems like August was a "busy" month long, long ago...Devil  Belated Happy B-Day to Dougm, Hudson, Blueberry, Buckeye...

Well, the Fifepup made it the prom.  His Blindfold-date was a whole head taller than he was.  About 15 couples crammed onto the pink party bus.  Got the "come-and-get-me" call at 0345 hrs.  He said he had a good time.  Next up, graduation.

Drove out to WV at 0630, non-stop, to visit Mom on her day.  Dad and I sprung for 2 new bench swings for their pavilion.  She was happy to see her "baby"...  Got back to fifedom at 2100 last night.

Back home, gave wifey Yankme Candle gift card.

Middle Princess had all 4 wisdom teeth yanked yesterday.

AF53 - All that big fat federal $$$ has lured all those Yankee (and RedSox) fans down to Martyland.  Doesn't bother me, nor the warehouse bunch.  O's are playing pretty good ball...just have to stop serving batting practice to Texas.

I am home for my lunch break and have a few minutes to post.  It is cloudy today with periods of rain.  I’m not sure how this may affect baseball practice tonight.  I’ll be spending many hours this week completing a final assignment for my current class.  I will then have two weeks off before starting the next class.

John – I hope you had a great birthday.

Brutus – I hope your hamstring is feeling better.

Happy Birthday Doug M!

Sayonara,

Joe

Good Evening

Had a fun night this evening...had some people show up and I gave a small operating session for some kids in the neighbourhood...then told them about some of the buildings we have here...

Good night all.  Wiring for lights and the exhaust fans finished.  Got out the trusty old light on a tripod.  Worked til 9:30.  Now shower and off to bed.

Time for me to call it a night. Been on the phone to relatives and friends in Texas and New Mexico finding out about a certain GMC truck. Finally went to the horses mouth so to speak and got the low-down on it. 1941-42 GMC CCKW flatbed ex-military truck that someone shoehorned a 1920's Packard twin-six engine into. Why? Who knows.

Layout front: Painted handrails. Metal ones were no problem. Paint doesn't like to stay on the plastic ones but silver ink from a Sharpie works great. Noticed my Bachmann GP7's were starting to whine a little so I put a drop of Dexron/Mercon ATF on the gears and they're whisper quiet again. Ran the Athearn/Proto GP35 behind the freight on address 00 for 20 minutes forward and turned it around and ran it for 20 minutes backward. Runs as quiet as any of my Atlas locos. Worked on a lighting problem on one of the GP9 Frankenlocos. The way the light was set up made the cab light up like a Jack-O-Lantern at Halloween. With the application of a little electrical tape only the headlight and number boards light up now. See y'all tomorrow.
