Aloha Paradise. It's another beauty of a day in Illinois and I've got a few days off courtesy of the NATO summit being held downtown.  I will be heading in tomorrow to go to the Sox-Cubs game. Hope this gorgeous weather holds.  Jack, that shot did remind me of those PAs. It is cosmetically restored - along with the huge tender at the other end of the line with the CNW Geep. It is one of UP's huge turbines. It was fun to wander around the IRM last week with Ben. No one was there. Blownout, prayers for your appointment!

Sunny and low 80's today.

RI52 - those speed records stand largely because the sanctioning bodies changed the rules to restrict the increased speeds that resulted from the advances in technology.  Kind of like the intake area restrictions that made the turbine powered cars uncompetative at Indy.

Air show at Whiteman AFB this weekend.  Planning on going on Saturday.

All for now.

Howdy guys - Jack, thanks and thanks Thumbs Up  Still get little twinges, but the pain is really gone.  We couldn't be prouder of our daughter for her grades.  I'm sure our son is feeling it, so toned it down a little.

Laz - our kids are done with school for the year.  It's getting closer, man!

Well - Dad is in the hospital with a stone.  They'll do an ultrasound and maybe cut on him tomorrow?  I don't know why he always lets this stuff get so bad before he finally admits he should call the doctor.  Poor Mom had been at the hospital since 3 PM waiting for him to be checked out.  She's home now.  I'll probably stop and see him tomorrow on the way home from work.  I'll bet he's home tomorrow night or Friday at the latest.

Picked up 3 Thomas cars today - the will be good fun with Percy and Thomas.  I'm still thinking about getting another Percy to alter into Ivor too....  I got disappointed by that one I got on ebay and just set that whole project aside.  Doug is making me think about it again Smile

TARDIS is ready, so let's get going guys Thumbs Up

PS - prayers for Blownout and all in need.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening all!

Another beaut of a day but warmer - high 80's - nice soft breeze this evening - grilled out again (pork chops) - Chef

And another long day - but completed a big project, second one this week. Taking on another big project starting next week. Will take until late August to complete.

Blownout - Angel

Jack - when Indy and Nascar speeds consistently hit over 200 MPH there were some horrific wrecks and that is when Indycar and Nascar started limiting Cu In and adding restrictor plates. Also when they started standardizing frames, bodies, engines, etc. No more turbine cars running off from the pack. Sorta took some of the fun out of it. One of the drivers at Talladega said it well this year - throttle is wide open all the time - no extra power or throttle to get one out of trouble or to pass. Indycars have a limited number of "pass" options. Now that NASCAR has fuel injection - maybe they will adopt the same. They discussed with now having fuel injection that the future may allow electronic means vs restrictor plates to limit HP (and top speeds and allow "passes").

Doug M - another great photo!

LAZ - 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.....Beer

Have a great day tomorrow all!

Just walked in from the Box.  No supper.  Grady was helping and kept slipping home for a "drink".  Got drunk and was doing messy cutting on trim. Bang Head  He was suppose to be painting.  When he paints, uses twice as much paint as needed.  Ceiling done with second coat.  Walls 99% done.  Finish tomorrow AM and then floor tomorrow.  Hung some light fixtures.  Got to finish boxing around the one wall exhaust fan.  Work room ceiling painted and light fixture hung.  Tired.  Shower and then supper.  Hit it again tomorow AM.

Later.

Got some goodies in the mail today. A Stewart F3B shell, an LBF 52' ACF boxcar (UP 553190). It needs couplers. A 60' double door boxcar (Southern 9427). It's missing two stirrups and part of one end is busted out. Two Digitrax HO decoders. A DH120 and a DH123. Anybody have two DHWH 9 pin connectors they don't need?

Pat, we have to do that too.  Financial advisor reminded us today.  Also have to assign power of attorney if unable to speak for yourself.  Went to G.I. doctor this afternoon.  Told him my tale and he scheduled a colonoscopy for next week.  I thought they would do an upper G.I. test but he says my other problems need more attention.  Says to keep on doing what I'm doing with diet and meds and time should take care of the upper G.I. problem.

Medical assistant handed me instructions for colonoscopy prep next week with appology.  I said, there is no need for that, this isn't my first rodeo.

Brent,

Christina seems to be growing up fast based on your updates.Smile  Ask Rich for his opinion on people like that Civic driver.Wink  Always have to deal with those types with the cars that sound like lawn equipment tailgating or trying to "race".  I just get as far away from their stupidity asap.  Let them earn their Darwin Award on their own.Surprise

Relocation is an option, but I was liking the "4 miles one way to work option".  Just going to pass the second test and see what can be done.

Jack,

I am at the point where I can pull the Mustang in and back it out after swapping mufflers within 30 minutes.Laugh  Returned it to stock so the dealer couldn't blame my changes for the problem and get out of honoring the warranty.  Stock mufflers with stock ECU flash is Sleep

DougM,

I am jumping in front of Jack in line for testing of that 2023 set.Laugh  Send him a set of 2343 F3s to distract him.Smile, Wink & Grin

Took the Mustang out to get gas for dealer appointment tomorrow.  I am starting to wonder if the BP gas with Invigorate that I've been using since the second fillup might be the cause of the odor.  I read that some additives contain sulfur, which converters will store and produce a sulfur odor.  Filled up with Sheetz today and did an extended drive with no odor.Tongue Tied

Pat.....I'm in the research and planning stages right now but have neither picked an attorney nor acquired enough of a layman's understanding of a revocable (living) trust or an irrevocable trust.  An estate tax/trust expert is what I will choose, one who makes a living at just that, not a jack of all trades.  One who will ask all of the right questions for me and for mine.

Things can get very complicated with a number of things.  You mentioned some of the most important ones in your post.  Taking care of the surviving spouse. The nature of the lions share of the estate assets (brick/mortar/dirt assets versus more liquid assets).  Federal, State, and estate taxes.  The avoidance of probate.  Distribution of you and your wife's personal effects in a manner and timing of your choosing.  Your wishes for the hard and soft quantifiable assets once you and your wife are both gone. Children and inheritance.  Succession past the children (to grandchildren, and beyond).  Blood children versus adopted or children by marriage.  Marital claims against the estate in the event of a child's divorce.  A whole host of things to consider.

From an exerpt I found that may be a start, based on what you posted:

"Since Revocable Living Trusts are so flexible, why aren’t all trusts revocable? The down side to a revocable trust is that assets funded into the trust will still be considered your own personal assets for creditor and estate tax purposes. This means that a revocable trust offers no creditor protection if you're sued and all assets held in the name of the trust at the time of your death will be subject to both state and federal estate taxes."

What I have on my punch list so far......asset protection from outsiders, minimize all taxes, bulletproof succession, and making sure my wife (or I) are taken care of once the other.  I want a well-delineated plan of succession so that no "outsiders" including the taxing authorities, any malcontent ex-spouses, or relatives can successfully assault the estate assets.  I would also like to, as best I can, and assuming my wife and I are not going to live until 90, make sure that my kids can't go hog wild and find themselves destitute, yet have access in the event of a dire emergeny........So I also have to pick a successor trustee (institutional) that will protect the kids in the same fashion I and my wife had intended.

Believe me when I say this:  it costs money to do this right.  But the savings and security will make the cost seem like a spit.  And then there is the piece of mind that no interloper can jeopardize what I and my wife have built.

This estate thing is one thing (among so many) where I feel like a fish out of water.

RT........you have an interesting theory with train collection: subtraction by addition.  Pretty soon you will need to consult the Chief about getting yourself a WreckTangle. WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

Jack

Jack funny you say that as the house next door to me was reposed and I really was thinking hard about buying it for a train room its 1300 sq feet ( approx) ( basically 24 x 55 feet I could remove all Walls and make it one big train room ( keep bathroom well toilet and sink remove rest) and I could have one big train room. But thing just didn't quite click right still feel I should of tried for it lol re-due the mortgage here to incorporate that house too but separate deeds. Just didn't act on it and should of as it sold for $15,000

Oh well should of, could of , would of but didn't Smile, Wink & Grin

Well not a lot going on here tonight about to go make more of my tuna and shells salad and figure out something for dinner.

Talk to you all later.

A little muggy here, Chief's and RT"s weather. The garden likes it.

Going to a "Living Trust" seminar tomorrow. That should be interesting. We have a will but don't like the idea of our estate paying out the big Probate to the Gov't. With the farm our net worth is quite high. Anyone have a revokable living trust?

Afternoon CTTFans!

It's in the low 80's here right now and the local news is once again filled with a new wild fire up near Fort Collins.  Hopefully they can keep this one contained in the valley where it is as not much for homes in that area but high winds could send it into more populated areas.  Got Day#2 and Day#3 of our Wichita trip now in my blog and here is a photo from Day #2.

It would be nice to live somewhere where you could use a pool more than one month out of the year like here in Illinois. Wink

Try Louisiana. My niece has had my parents pool open since late last month. It'll close probably late October or early November.

Good morning all,

Two appointments today.  One with financial advisor and the other with the doctor this afternoon.

Chief, great job on the ceiling in the box.  Thanks a bunch for the pictures.  Glad to hear that D.Baker is helping you design a  layout.  Don very graciously helped me recently by installing some removable track sections in my layout.  I am very impressed with his talents for things to do with trains and layouts.  I'm sure the two of you will come up with something good.  Keep us posted and hope you get some more help over there.

D. Baker, good to see you're finding a little time to post.  You are one busy man lately.  Re swimming pools, ours is not heated but hardly anyone uses it much anymore.  We get a lot more heat up here than you might further South.  My pool water is about 80 right now with no heater.  I have been taking care of the pool myself but have thought about getting the service as I get older.  Mine is an in the ground, vinyl lined pool so I have to find a pool guy that knows something about them.  You have to be more careful with chemicals and cleaners and use brushes for vinyl pools.  These liners are usually good for at least 10 years.  I am on my fourth one now and I hope the last.  When this one goes, I might just shut it all down.  However, it cost more to fill one in than replace the liner.  You can't win.

Brent, nice report on Christina!

later,

Ray

........Had to drive TheQ's Murano today so I can take it for service. I really like this vehicle, but it does NOT handle like the 325xi! Brent.....this engine in the Murano is essentially the same motor in my wife's (2004) Infinity G35 Coupe.  Nissan's VQ series of V6 engines have been used the past 15+ years or so, including in the 350Z and current 370Z!!!  This VQ engine has been listed most of these years by Wards Automotive as one of the best engine designs in the world for production vehicles.  Even BMW can't top that.  Thumbs Up

Aloha. Paradise. Another gorgeous but cool day in Chicago. Long day yesterday, went to bed early. I think I am on the wrong side of sleep. Today's highlight: pick up a free comic at lunchtime.  Brent, now that Christina's mobile, the whole world changes. She'll get to things you never thought possible.  JoeD, you'll love WBB and the 44 tonner in particular. It's a tad oversize... Hope Kev enjoys the Northwoods. Ray, prayers for a good doc visit. http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o493/dougjmurphy/IMG_2248.jpg

DougM.......this picture of Benzilla is somehow screaming "Lionel 50th Anniversary FA1 UP Alco AA engine set" at me!!!  Don't you doesn't he deserve these for Fathers' Day?  Don't forget the matching 2481, 2482, and 2483 passenger cars as a corresponding, for no particular reason,  "because I love you"  gift for Kelly.Whistling Laugh  This approach worked for RT and Kevin...... Ya gotta get Ben's photo blown up and framed and hanging on the train room wall first, then surprise them.  When Kelly sees the look on Ben's face or her portion of the gift, how could she possible say no?

Just to help point you in the right direction, I spied the complete set of AA engines and three cars in "excellent" shape (with box) for a mere, buy-it-now price of $1,575 on Evilbay.  For financing, contact EAGLES' NEST SAVINGS AND LOAN.
