Good night all.  Back from the lake house.  Double mowed but looked real good after I finished.  Worked on dock yesterday.  Was not as involved as we had figured.  Rested today before driving home.  Cat got sick and wifey had to rush her to the vet.  A little snake bit her or a spider????  She is doing well.  Wifey called and could not find her in the house.  She asked Lucy where her sissy kitty was.  Lucy went under the bed and came back out looking at Wifey.  Wifey said no and she had looked under there.  Lucy went back under and just stuck her head out from under bed skirt.  Wifey got flashlight and there she was.  Interest how Lucy understood Wifey.

Got home and had new family member.

Wife got a Yorkie. Sigh
No Box work tomorrow as lunch meeting, County Commissioners and then Mayors' Assoc.  Shake and Bake's drawing is what he wanted.  Reversing loops everywhere.  Told him real trains did not have reversing loops.  Maybe Y's.

It's time for me to call it a night. I got the NEW YORK CENTRAL F3B patched for the L&A, installed Kadee couplers on the GP35 in a pair of cut-down coupler boxes from a Proto 2000 FA1 and not much else. The numbness that's been effecting the left side of my neck and face for some months seems to have spread to my left arm and leg and adds a new wrinkle to working on things. There's no pain involved and very little decrease of mobility but a definite decrease of sensation. Could be a compressed disk in my neck is giving me a problem, could be my nerve damage spreading or it could be something new. I'll have to keep tabs on it and see.

See y'all tomorrow.

Another nice day here on the mountain.

Still lots of astronomers and instrument types running underfoot. We may actually put this new instrument on sky tomorrow.

Not much else going on right now. May paint the base plate of the ZW tonight so I can finally finish that up.

Will go for a walk in just a bit.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Welcome back!

Dad goes home tomorrow and they will let him stabilize for a few weeks before the surgery.  They don't expect a new stone to form so soon and he needs to get his sugars back under control as his pancrease heals up.

It got pretty hot in STL today, then we had a "scattered shower" over my house.  It only lasted a short while, though.  I took my son to see The Avengers, which was really great Thumbs UpThumbs Up  We then went to lunch at Five Guys, gamestop for my son, and Walmart for some more cable and a dvd player for my daughter.  I picked up an RJ45 connector at radioshack, but I need to test the signal strength with and without it, as the kids working their indicated I should buy a single 100 ft cable instead of using a connector or I would have all kinds of connection issues?  I THINK they were just trying to sell me some cable, but we'll see.  I'll be back later, so TTFN!

Laz, meteor shower at Glacier Point sounds like quite a show.  Incidentally, the fire fall did not go over a water fall but looked like water on fire while falling.  They saved up all the dead tree bark up there for burning.  Down below Glacier was Camp Curry where people gathered to watch.  A park ranger would call up "Let the fire fall" and then it would begin.  One night some college kids got up in a tree and when he said "let the fire fall" a voice came back from up above that said NOooooooo.............  We all had a good laugh.  They discontinued the fire fall many years ago because it was becoming too much of an "unnatural display" and attracting too much traffic coming in the park just to see that.  I feel very fortunate to have seen it though.  They did a TV program about it with Huel Howser.  They showed another natural fall that looks like the firefall when the sun hits it late in the day at a certain time of year.  It is called horse tail fall and doesn't run year round but nothing could compare to the real one.  At Camp Curry entertainers would sing  "The Indian Love Call" while the fire was falling.  They made quite a production out of it.  Nowadays, what you would probably get at camp gatherings would be something like a lecture on the feeding habits of chipmunks.

Doug not so grumpy, that potable A/C unit sounds like a good idea.  Depends on the price.  I'll check it out.  Thanks for the tip.

Good Mornin'/Afternoon Y'all.

Been a busy week, did drop in to check-out to see what's up but haven't had the energy to post.

Had a good run at the museum on friday, then picked up the munchkin to spend the night with Gandma & Grampa. Spent a little while at "Cruisin' Grand" checking out some awesome Rods & Customs, then hit Souplantation for a late dinner. Saturday was up early for his favorite of Bacon Waffles then some cartoons and games before heading into San Diego for his Little League game after which us old folks headed for the museum for the club's Spring Cookout & Potluck, too much good food(plop-plop-fizz-fizz). Spent some time this morning on the deck just watching the newest generation of Red Tailed hawks testing their wings and hopping about the branches around their nest. Next year may pick up an in-expensive telescope for better viewing.

SP Ray, Have seen some small portable AC units on sale that may help make the garage/trainroom bearable with summer rapidly approaching.

Sounds as though our folks are either on the mend or getting to that point. Continued Angel for our friends and families in need.

Doug, A very belated Happy B-Day and any others I may have missed.

Laz, With regard to watching the meteor showers, when we lived up in the Co. Rockies at 9500 ft it was almost as if you could reach out and touch the stars, especially during the winter months when the air was just bone dry. But in the summer months you definitely didn't want to be out & about during thunder storms, the lightening bounced around the rocks with great regularity.

R&R time is up, the "Honey Do's" await. Sigh

Later All !

Good Morning all from the Jersey shore!

Beautiful couple of days sunny, mid 70's NICE!

Had a nice visit at my LHW (local hobby warehouse) down the road and visited with HudsonJohn yesterday. He always has the best stuff! Then went home and did some planning for a new layout. New shelves are a must and first. Not sure what to use for a ground cover and was wondering what everyone else uses?

It was nice to see Todd Frazier play in da Bronx as he kinda returns home while playing for the Cincy Reds. As most might remember he grew up nearby and played on the 1998 Little League Champs team representing Toms River, our nieghboring town north of us.

NJDevil - Things aren't looking too good for the Devils! I was a Ranger fan before the Devils came to town but I'm finding myself being nuetral in this battle.

Jack - Thanks for for the win against the Rays. Now return us our bats!

Ps, What did it feel like seeing Papelbon in another uniform?

Brutus - Good luck with your dad. I had my gallbladder removed last spring and after it was gone all returned to normal, after one day.

HudsonJohn - If you think it would help I will talk to my big sis about helping you do some extra work around the house.........

Enjoy the day all,

Ray

Good morning. It's 70° and sunny. The high will be 88° and it'll be partly cloudy.

Only project on the schedule today is to prepare a Stewart F3B shell to be mounted on the Proto/Stewart frame of the third unit of the Frankenstein trio. Anything else that comes along will be dealt with or ignored as required.

Thanks for prayers, Dad is doing pretty well now - they did the scope and it was fine, so once they clear up the pancreatitis, they will take out the gallbladder.  Things are going about as well as you could hope, so the prayers are working gents.

Blownout - prayers for you for a cure and good course of treatment.

Nice chats tonight with Charlie, SJ and John.  Just solving the problems of the world.

Today was busy!  I put a hitch on my lawnmower, ran 2 x 50 ft ethernet cables through the basement and one up to my son's room for his game consoles.  I also ran a new coax cable, again 50 ft, as my wife moved the tv to another wall and the existing cable doesn't reach of course.  I need to get an inline connector to complete the ethernet run and then we can put in a switch in my son's room for his two systems, which I already have on hand, and hook everything up in the new configuration.

Then, I cobbled together a sort of horse-shoe shaped box to go "over" and around a pipe that hangs down in the bedroom in the basement,  That was a comedy of errors, as I seemed to forget that you can't hook a 10 inch tall by 26 inch long open-ended box over a pipe and then lower it in place without actually making one board "ghost" through the pipe!  D'oh!  I took off the top crosspiece and raised the box up into place, then after it was secured I replaced the top brace and screwed it all in place.  Finally, I covered it all with drywall.  I spent about 40 minutes breaking up and bagging chunks of leftover drywall from the work I have already done, too.  I have 4 big contractor plastic bags of chunked up drywall pieces ready for the garbage man.  Probably about 30 bucks worth of drywall, but not useful anymore.  So, progress is being made - the bedroom is all done and ready to tape and mud.  The playroom is done and ready for tape/mud.  I need to do a little work at the stairs, still.  And, I need to install a shower and finish the drywall in the bathroom.  Tape/mud, paint, doors, ceiling, floors, and trim work.  I'll hire out the floors as I'm not good at it.  The goal is to have this long project finally done this Fall.  Then I can start my new layout Thumbs Up

I plan to work on the stair area on Monday for part of the day, then take my daughter out to a movie or something fun.  I have a 3 days weekend this week.

TARDIS is ready, Mike!  I have it fueled and loaded with goodies.  We have banilla and also more lemon icecream, rootbeer (A&W or MUG), plus Old Mills, Blue Moon and Fat Tire beer.  Let's go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Well another day here on the hill. Still in the receiver install mode. We have more astronomers and instrumentation guys running around than we can shake a stick at. Not a whole lot for us to do other than offer tools and sympathy.

Managed to successfully pull the worn pinion gear off the armature for the 1664. Had to make a few mods to the puller but it worked. I had ordered a new one last week and went ahead and added some other stuff since I was paying the shipping anyways. Of course what happened? Pinion gear wasn't available, but didn't find out until I got everything but what I neededBang Head Ordered another gear from a different vendor this week.

Went ahead and finally ordered a new bike helmet. I figured the cheap one I bought from Target like 20 years ago has finally done it's duty.

Went for a nice walk down the access road to watch the sunset.

Time for me to call it a night. One of my projects today was to fit a pair of Athearn F7 trucks to a Front Range GP7 frame. All was fine with the exception of two places on the frame that came in contact with the contact arms on the trucks. It was an easy matter to cut the two projections off the frame and refit the trucks. This loco is a GP9. It has a Proto motor and flywheels, Athearn shafts and trucks. It's DCC and is fitted with a Lenz Silver decoder. There are no motor mounts, the motor is glued to the frame.

See y'all tomorrow.

RAY, SPMAN,

Yes I saw pics of the burning embers going over the falls.  What a site that musta been,WOW!!  The best night I ever had at YOSEMITE was in August of '86 during the annual PERSIDS (shooting stars), me and my two BROs went up to GLACIAR POINT and took 2 six packs and watched the greatest shooting star show ever.  We were up there with about 1000?, other people enjoying the sites of the sky.  Best thing about up there NO LIGHT POLUTION!  We were able to see the whole Milky Way,not the candy bar, without ant other lights on.  What a show!!!  I will always cherrish that nite as one of the all time nites of my life.  Just the black sky with flashes of meteors flying through the sky about every 30 seconds if that.  Simply amazing!

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Mowed the yard Friday night.  Moved the magazines this morning.  Edged and trimmed the yard this afternoon and evening.  Bad day at track.  Only Sarah's number one driver made the race today (7th).  Her other driver crashed and AJ's cars were too slow.  Glad I did not go.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening all not a lot going on here.

B.O.C. hang in there and prayers being lifted for you man.Angel

Went in to work and was asked almost immediately if I wanted to work O.T. tonight so said sure.

Now just relaxing eating popcorn. Great filler when its night-time and you don't want something heavy.

Need to look into some type of boarder paper to give me either a farm scene or mountain/lake scene thats only about 12" high to go around from the board of my shelf layout to the ceiling. also have to add a little more green to fill in to the wall to complete the grass up there that the train is running on. may even look into balancing as its a great place to experiment as its actually out of sight but gets me so I can play and experiment

Blownout,

                    Angel

Spent the day working on the 91 GL.  After what I found with the rear brakes today, I have no clue how I made it home. Left rear wheel cylinder is blown and leaking, and there is no material left on the shoes on either side.Indifferent  No way this happened in the twenty some miles I've driven it.  No clue how this car passed PA inspection last year.  Car should have never been offered for sale.

Well I got a pair of Proto 1000 AAR trucks fitted to the Athearn GP35 frame.

And after a bit of grinding on the frame and a little filing I got a Walthers GP9 shell to fit on the Athearn frame as well. The filing I mentioned was to remove the inner corners of the rear step wells on the Walthers shell

Aloha from a sunny and warm NATO-infested Chicago. Paradise, Lots of protesters too. Good thing I'm 46 miles away today.  Got out the youngest's slip-n-slide. Remember them? It attracted some neighborhood kids. There were popsicles and somehow they and some parents ended up in the basement running trains. Yes  Now to recover...
