Good morning all,

#2 son off to see another car race this weekend near Monterey, California.

Don, that track plan reminds me of the display layout built by TCA for the Nixon Library Christmas Holiday of Trains in the past.  Does the Chief want all the tracks on one level?  Looks like you could have a lot of trains running at the same time on independent tracks.  He is going to need a lot of lift outs or hinged sections to get to the middle though.

Chief, now is the time to make easy access, not when you are too old to crawl underneath the thing.  I put up with duck unders for years.  Big mistake!  Do yourself a favor and make it easy to access.

Friends are asking if I can go out to dinner tonight with them.  They know my situation so I told them I would have to see how I feel later and if I do would have to order something very simple to be safe.  I miss the social part of going out with them.  My wife and I have been dinner partners with them off and on for a long time.  They both have big time health issues too so we are all walking wounded.

Laz, I never did the kind of long treks that you did in the Sierra but hiked all over the Yosemite Valley from the floor up to Glacier Point and another one up to Nevada Fall and Half Dome.  We did hike into a high country lake off of the road to Tioga Pass.  That's where I caught the trout.  We were in the Valley one time when then President Kennedy came for a visit to the park along with Governor Pat Brown, father of our present govenor.  Kennedy came in by helicopter and stayed at the Ahwahnee Hotel.  His open car passed right where my wife and I were standing close enough to reach out and touch him almost.  They used to have a firefall from Glacier point, pushing embers over the cliff at night.  They had the biggest one ever the night JFK was there.

have a good weekend,

Ray

Lunch time:

Beautiful day in NJ, 78, sunny, nice breeze and low humidity and quiet at work!

Dennis, People do not realize how close we came to war with Russia, more than once. I think it is great exposing your kids to life like you do. I did the same.

Brutus, Great news on your Dad.

Don Baker, looks like you are an early riser like me. I am definitely ask for your input when I start the new layout.

Laz, we are definitely going to be toasting to retirement. 195 for me.

Blownout Cyl. Hang in there. Prayers.

Jeffrey, Glad that you have everything in check.

Angel For Ray, Blownout Cyl., Jeffrey and Brutus' Dad.

Rich: Keep checking the web site.

Good almost afternoon everyone.  Pat, it mentioned that he didn't need reversing loops, but I would imagine that if one were to have such a long train, it would make for short runs...only in one direction to the end and stop.  Perhaps it is a government train!  Chief, was thinking that before you start building the layout, you may want to place tinting on the windows with UV protection.  3M has a product for home windows that would help.  That would both help keep your heat build up on the box lower and also, it would help prevent fading to your trains and layout.

Ray and Laz, a friend's father in law used to be a forrest ranger in the Sierra Nevada.  Loved his time there and has plenty of stories about it.  Makes me want to put it on my bucket list.

Brutus and Blown Cylinder, good news.  Hope all goes well in the health front for both and families.

Already did my rounds this morning.  Wife had to take her ACLS recertification and kids had stayed over a friend's house, so I am home alone.  Will most likely take a nap as tonight we have a meeting with the international missions board.  The meeting is supposed to be three hours, so any rest prior will be much needed.  I understand that it is Armed Forces Day.  I am not suprised that the news folks have not made more of it.  One would think that they would honor those who protect the freedoms we all enjoy.

Have a blessed weekend.
Dennis

Morning all!

Pat - da Chief don't need no stinking reversing loops - and as Buckeye would note - a loop would not fit on the china cabinets or the pink toilet Laugh

Supposed to get to 88 today. Going to music festival later. Another typ Texas spring - 20+ mph winds so no boating. It did not calm down here last year until the end of June.

Angel for SJ, BoC, Ray, Butus' Dad, and Jeffrey

Chuck - sounds like a pleasant afternoon!

Have a great one today!

Good Evening,

After reading some of the comments about the design effort for the Chiefs layout. Thought I would post a picture of what he wanted.

This is what he plans on.....

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a2db39b3127ccef0715228930300000030O00EZOWbRmyYsQe3nwk/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

- Layout is to encompass 90% or more of the box. (13x40)

- Want to RUN verrrrry long trains, don't worry about "Reversering Loops" or multiple train operation.

- And, regrading switches keep them to a minimum, ("My engines are all ARTICULATED, and can make the corners.

- Need a "ROOM" for Grady, prefferrably near the small back door.  (Upper left corner)

-  Would llike 2 engine yards, 1 on the beginning of a long run and 1 at the opposite end.

- A couple of bridges is OK, but not too many, but make SURE there is a walkway to access everywhere.  ("If needed I will have Grady crawl underneath, he won't mind.")

- Would like a small place where I can have a small train run continuously.

- Don't worry about Cross Overs, they just cause trains to run into each other anyway.

So this was the result.  (Note to Roy and Buckeye --- No furniture or china cabinets involved, and I'm sure the Chief will be busy for awhile.  Kinda reminds me of the Carpet Central, that he ran for years!)

Prayers for Brutus' Dad and ALL others with physical issues lurking around.

Later,  4 am comes early!!

.

Shake and Bake, I was looking at the Chief's layout and don't see a reversing loop. Am I missing it?

Good morning. It's 76° and sunny. The high will be 90°.

Not feeling my best this morning. Woke up with a blood sugar level of 62. So I had a breakfast that included a lot of starch. I feel better now. Nothing on the schedule today. I may make up a set of torpedo tubes for the H24-66 and GP35 later.

Hi GUYZ,

Beauty of a day here.  Creeks are high and a bit stained so gonna pass on the trout today.  Have to open up filters for pond and clean them today.

CHUCK, gee TRIBES still in first!!!  Must be something in the water of the Cayahoga River?

ROY, THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!!!!

RAY love those Sierras.  Lots o bears though.  Only came across one though and it took off.  Rattlers only saw one big one of those.  About a 6-7 footer and very thick.  Heard it before I saw it.  Stopped suddenly was about 5 feet from me.  I backed up very slowly and waited for wife and told her to walk in oppsite direction.  Left in a hurry, was more villigant after that.

JACK, nope she woke up asked what was that.  I told her WOLVES, she asked if they would bother us, I said no.  She fell back asleep.  I was up all nite long.

BLOWNOUT, prayers for you.  Hope all goes well with the treatment.

HUDSON JOHN, CHEERS to you to on your final COUNTDOWN!!!!

Stay frosty,

It's 61 going to 82.

My only real job for today is trimming the grass, I am thinking of buying a strap for the trimmer as it's starting to feel heavier than it use to. Not sure if it would really help but it might. Granny is fixing breakfast and it smells good. I am waiting..Nice chat with Brutus and John last night..S.J.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 50 in the Mid-Atlantic region. S'posed to get up to 84 Paradise.  Perhaps a little Pirate-time this afternoon.  But first, need to get up on the ladder and do a little de-foresting in my downspouts.

blownout cylinder - Best regards to you.  Good luck.

Chief/ dbaker- Nice plan.  I still think, scenery wise, Chief should do the NS "Rathole" division.  Oh, and be careful with that outside loop and walls.

Me too, Jeff - yawn!

Nice chats with SJ today on the thingie and on the phone.  Great to catch up with Hudson John, too Thumbs Up

So glad to finally make it to the weekend.  I was on call as the "answer man" this week and I have to say it wore me out.  I only got about 10 percent of my own work done with doing everyone else's work - Uh, I mean, helping them out with some few questions!  Yikes!  I have about 5 weeks until my turn rolls around again.

Dad is doing well - he will get that scope done tomorrow to make sure things are clean and clear and the stone is really gone.  They are also looking for anything else that might be amiss.  They have to let his blood thicken up as he is normally on coumadin blood thinner, otherwise they would have scoped him already.

I was good today, too.  I didn't buy any trains, but I did buy a book I found after a little texting with Doug Murphy.

TARDIS is ready, Freddy, and Mike is driving tonight!  We need to get all that banilla off the roof from the loop-d-loops!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Blownout, prayers to get through this thing.

Laz, re your trip to California, there are some beautiful places where you went.  Don't think I'm ready for an 80 mile hike though.  There are also some Golden Trout at those High Altitudes.  Chuck Yeager of Rocket Plane fame wrote a book and talked about hiking up the Eastern side of the Sierra for those.  I need a place close to home where I can get a line wet.  We have a few but they are crowded.  I used to go to Yosemite National Park a lot and saw some of the high country there.  Caught a few wild trout in alpine lakes too.  That was many moons ago.

Still behaving myself with diet and trying to get my stomach fixed.

Cool and cloudy this morning but sun came back this afternoon and heated it up again.

Chief, sounds like you are making good progress on the box.  Good luck.

Ray

It's 71 now.

I spent the morning out with my train friend. We stopped at P & D, then Wild Bills trains. I was good, didn't buy anything. Came home crashed on the couch and then cut the grass after the 5 o-clock news. No banilla for me tonight but we have enough for the thingy crew...S.J.

Good evening everyone.  Looks to be a beautiful weekend here.  Rain has moved out and temps have cooled a bit.  Not sure when I will get out to enjoy it.  Came home from work, quick turn around to church as I had to video a high school graduation.  Tomorrow, we have a meeting on missions that should last about 3 hours.  Hope I don't get called in.

Watching a program on how close we came to war with Russia in 1983.  Interesting program, the soviets were very affraid of Reagan.  The downing of the Korean Air Lines jet and following brought us close.

Wife tells me the kids had a great time at the Agrirama.  They learned much about the farming done in the area and on how things used to be in the 1800s.  We are blessed to have a number of such opportunities for our kids to take in.  I want to get my kids to learn what it takes to both grow the food and to put it on the table.  Also have plans to bring them to a friend's ranch in Texas so they can learn about ranching and beef, etc.  Lessons they won't get in a classroom.

Laz and Don, we have a steam engine at the Agrirama.  I have not been down there on the days it runs, but will have to look into it, as it would be great to be a part of running one.

Well, I hope to check into things and get back here this weekend.  Been crazy busy lately and I am sorry if I have not gotten back with anyone.  Will keep the prayers coming.

God Bless,
Dennis

BOC: Good luck with the bone tumor.Angel I've had bone marrow infections and they aren't fun either. I lost three bones in my right foot to that.

Nothing much going on here. Did a little work on the H24-66 and the U30EM645. Other than that I've been watching the TV (it hasn't tried to sneak off) and running a couple of trains.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps near 80.   AJ's team finally got untracked yesterday and uncorked some respectable times.  Sarah's team still near the top..  Maybe could be a good May after all.  Pole Day runs tomorrow, but I have a full weekend of chores to do.  Spent two ours cleaning out 2 more shelves for magazines.  Hope to get them moved this weekend.  Allergies or dust or both were really bad last night.  Did more sneezing than cleaning.  No problems with the ride in the Tardis last night.  I am used to the loop-de-loops.  TBIL and I can drive again.  I hope everyone has a good day.  By the way, for those of you playing the home version of the coffer pot, Mike Conway #14 and Wade Cunningham #41 are driving for AJ, and Josef Newgarden #67 and Bryan Clausen  #39 are driving for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing.  Conway and Newgarden are the full season drivers, and Cunningham and Clausen are trying to expand their one race roles into rides for the rest of the season.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Buckeye I have 2 of the 6-18563 NYC 2380 GP-9 that was made in 1996 and they both run great and there TMCC actually they where one of the first model's for tmcc to be put in and the original rail-sounds.

I love them both and they both run great still 16 years later now I wasn't original owner but I have run them both and know they run fine. one had a problem when I got it but after replacing the reversing unit assembly as they call it all is fine the other is still doing fine. I really like these 2 engines. I liked these so much I bought a 6- 18513 GP-7 2077 conventional and bought the Lionel GP-20 1998 centennial engine with tmcc and took the tmcc out of it and rail sounds and put it in the 2077 ( by the way I could not of bought the rail sounds alone for what I bought the engine for ) so I did good on that since sold the engine and the electronic E-unit and the sound board with a speaker for about $20 less than I paid for the GP-20 so I got tmcc and rail sounds for the 2077 for about $25 actually lol. ( other $5 is ebay fee's lol)

As for tmcc I love it I also have 2 NYC PA-1's with tmcc and there from 1998 I believe and there doing great in fact there on my shelf layout.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 54 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Gonna head down to the yatchet before work and oil the teak.  Need the alone time, as apparently I haven't been playin' too well with others.  Just gettin' old and crotchity I s'pose.
