cheapclassics

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Trimmed tree that was touching neighbor's house.  For the amount of effort involved, the number of limbs cut was few.  I watched Glee last night.  First episode was horrible, but the second one was ok.  I thought this was the season end, but I see where there is one more new show left.   Sarah's team is dropping down the speed charts and AJ's team is still not fast enough for the first day bunch (fastest 22).  Looking more and more as if there will not be 33 cars for the 500.  Sad commentary.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

MikeC........isn't this the first time in over 60 years there might not be a full 33 cars on the starting grid at the Indy 500?  Despite all of the dumbing down at Indy with fewer chassis, fewer motors, and fewer manufacturers, the money still isn't there for the fringe people to afford to participate.  I get to wondering how much a falloff in sponsorship the past few years plays into it.  Sad  Like NASCAR, Indy car racing had better figure out how they very well may have killed the goose that layed the golden egg.

Interesting bit of related NASCAR trivia........it has been 25 years since Bill Elliott set the all-time record qualifying speed for NASCAR (at Talledega) at 212 MPH and change.  It has been 16 years since Arie Luyendyk hit a record 237 MPH in the Indy time trials, still a full 10 MPH faster than today.

I thought improved automotive technology and innovation were supposed to increase speed and safety......Whistling

Good Mornin' From (you guessed it) Still Raining Taxachusetts,

I envy Chuck and his sunshine.  Steady downpour last night beginning around 10PM, light rain now, allegedly clearing by tonight.

Wifey was laughing at me last night, seeing me decked out in my raingear, trying to get Maximus to go outside for last call.  He looked out the door and seing the downpour wanted no part of it, decided to "hold it" until this AM.  So this morning I don my raingear again, pulled the wifey's car out into the downpour, and am (once again) cleaning birdie doo doo off her car, because for some reason obvious only to a woman (women's logic) she insists on parking under a tree every day.  She says to me from the shelter of the garage:  "You have to pull the car back in here because I am not going to walk (the 10 feet) in the rain.  So I pull the car back into the garage for her.  I keep my mouth shut, pondering women's logic......like how is she going to walk the 30 yards in the rain from her car into her workplace without walking in the rain (with umbrella, of course)?  Right before she backs out of the garage, she zips the window down and asks me if I am ever going to cut the grass again.  "Sure, honey, as soon as I mount the pontoons on the lawn mower."  Women's logic.!!!!  Bang HeadSmile, Wink & Grin

JimmyT..... Thumbs Up and congratulations on your certification.  That credential will look very good on your resume, it differentiates you.....shows drive, ambition, initiative, and the willingness to go the extra mile.  SadSorry to hear about the job, but in the grander scheme of things, I'd take the certification 10 times out of 10.  Another prospect will come along.  Had to laugh at your GT disassembly (again) to revert to the stock exhaust in order to get past emissions......thought that would happen.  You must be getting pretty fast at these "pit stops!" Laugh

RaySP........I agree with your observation that two sets of eyes and two experienced brains are better than one.  Some people feel very uncomfortable posing this "next step" to their Doc who has been unsuccessful at getting to the bottom of things.  You have to live with the discomfort and life disruption every day.  While I don't personally subscribe to changing horses mid stream with many things, this might be the one. Angel today's visit breaks the logjam.

Chief..... Thumbs Up I among many here are impressed at your progress with the WreckTangle despite the obstacles.  The pictures tell the story.  With your weather, I would think humidity would be a major problem causing delays with the ceiling (plastering); but you continue to "git er done."  And thank you for posting those before and after photos!  If you need more time out of Grady, I'll ship Maximus to you.  Place him outside the door and give him the "guard command."  He'll make sure Grady stays the course until you are ready to let him go home. Laugh

Brent........great update on Christina!!! Thumbs Up  A milestone, and you got to be there to see it.  Our first grandchild couldn't seem to get crawling "forward" mastered, only backwards.  Pull herself up, stand on her tippy toes, and walk without assistance along a sofa or a table.....no problem.  She pretty much skipped crawling forward and went straight to walking.  Are you videotaping any of this?

Brutus.....I have had hammy pulls and groin pulls, some for a good reason and some I could not explain why tthey happened.  No fun.  And they take months to clear up.  Was glad to hear you are getting better, though.Thumbs Up

KEV.......have you gotten your wifey away from the train controls yet?  Or isn't it your turn? Whistling  You may have created a monster. Smile, Wink & Grin  Aren't you glad you checked and found your electrical issues with the trailer lights now instead of out on the road, in the dark, with no tools, standing in the rain, and trying to talk your way out of a traffic ticket with a Statie? Stick out tongue

Jeff......re the mower shaking, my buddy's significant other kept trying to mow over tree stumps and saplings, and simultaneously have the blade too low for some uneven portions of the terrain (chopping dirt)..  Needless to say. the blades on her rider got bent, and my buddy found he was mowing by hand for weeks until she called some guy to come out and service the blades at her home.  Yup, you guessed it, two weeks (and two mows) post repair, she climbed aboard and did it all again.  That was last Fall and the riding mower sits gathering dust, probably with the old gas in there and no stabilizer added.  That should take care of the carb she spent good $$$ on to have disassembled, cleaned, and reintalled.  Hope your vibration issues are that simple to rectify, blades.  And I was also glad to hear you are giving your foot a rest for healing.

Traindood.......I agree with the others.  It is good to see you posting again. Thumbs Up  Your sense of humor makes my day!  The same goes for the rest of you'se guyz.  The daily challenges and setbacks need some balance.  Laughter and humor keeps me on an even keel.

RT........you have an interesting theory with train collection: subtraction by addition.  Pretty soon you will need to consult the Chief about getting yourself a WreckTangle. WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

Dennis......many thanks for the camera tips.  Believe it or not, I never made the transition from a fully manual SLR film camera to a digital camera that can do everything automatically for you.....or if you chose, to use the manual features when necessary.  Never brought myself to sitting down and reading the instruction manual with my point and shoot, for 6+ years, even though it could be operated manually if situations needed it!!!.  You mentioned the challenge of shooting moving subjects indoors with inadequate light, where flash photography is prohibited, or your distance from the subject is too far for the flash to do you any good even if you could use the flash.  Yup, they come out blurry, too dark in many instances, less than satisfactory.  I cracked the owners' manual on my Nikon D3100 this past weekend, a full 6+ years ahead of my schedule for the last camera.  I'll get there!!!

Re my last photo rant, where the "favor" I did for someone blew up in my face.  I wanted to help out a very nice and super competent person because she desperately needs to expand her exposure in the marketplace with her business.....while she limps along with Facebook, a web site, and a Yahoo blog that don't do her exceptional and differentiated talents more appealing.  She has asked me for business advice in the past, has listened intently, but continues to bumble along, shooting herself in the foot far too often.  "You can lead a horse to water" syndrome. Bang Head

AF Ray, JoeyD, Rich, Chief, and the rest of the (misguided) Yankee fans. Smile, Wink & Grin Fear not with the Red Sox' recent 5 game winning streak.  Yes, their pitching for some inexplicable reason as of late has been better than solid.  Josh Beckett seems to have responded positively to the fans and media calling for his head on a pike last week.  But I am not convinced the no-names starting right now in the place of Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury, Kevin Youkilis, DiceK Matsusaka, and their injured closer (what's his name) can pull this team back up into the hunt.  Talk to me around the All Star break, and we will see if this surge is real or if it is Memorex.  Bang Head

MikeC........I am sorely disappointed with the local sports media here.  It is as if the greatest spectacle in motorsport, only two weeks off, does not exist.  Not a word. Bang Head  When I lived in Chicago many moons ago, the evening sports news would always have segments on the time trials!

JimSP......we all miss you!! Angel all is well with you.

Later, gang.

Jack

Morning.  Sunny and humid.  T'storms later.

Box work going on again without help.  A/C feels good in there.  Going to Lowes to get paint and finish ceiling second coat.  Really looks good with second coat.  Will do some "boxing in" later.  Got meeting this afternoon.

Shake and Bake, conference later.  Great job.

Later.

Good Morning,

Still roaming around out here.  Knott's sure has turned out to be MORE than I expected!  Working 32 hours a week, and it isn't even summer yet.  Needless to say I certainly don't need a suana, gets plenty warm in the cab.  Been working the 5 am shift, "Hostling" the engine/cars before daily usage.

Our "Goose" is undergoing a facelift, to prepare for the Goose Fest to be held in Colorado in June.

On the home front been hassling a long term issue with the pool guy regarding our heater.  The heater is very old and hard to find someone familiar with it, and this guy is a real flake.  He knows his stuff but has severe issues with maintaining appointments.  I was finally able to get it working yesterday, but found one of the "Ortega Valves" needs re-doing, so will get into that today.  Im determined to get it all back on-line.  Also, had a dental issue, ended up having a tooth removed and going to require a bridge, ($$$$). Black Eye

Many more small projects been working on, most seem to be working out OK.  On the train front, got atleast a dozen project in process.  Constantly changing the priority and not making progress.  I know better than doing that, so need to get focussed and just finish 1 at a time.  (Have some 1920/20 NEW coach lights, that were wifes grandfather's.  (He was conductor on the GN,  These lamps were mounted in the coachs and are candle lights.  I am installing a flickering LED in them, then mount them on the walls.  Have a total of 6, with globes, candles, everything.  They are really beautiful.  Of course the electrification will be done without ANY modification to the lamp, no holes drilled, or anything.)

DougM - That is a great picture!!

Need to get busy, today is last day off until next week.

I may not post a lot, but still hope ALL of you find continued good health and success for you and your families.

good morning everyone.  getting ready to head in.  wife gave me some todos and I am todun!  Doug, Benzilla looks like he is ready to take on that monster behind him!  Congratulations, you have a special family!

Brent, enjoyed reading your post.  Christina certainly does have your heart!  Make a blog, or write down such moments, they grow fast and before you know it, they are ready to go off to school.  Also, make sure you go back on a regular basis to check out the photos from days/years past as it is amazing how they change.  Congratulations to you too.

Laz, congratulations on fast approaching the finish line.  Just remember that the finish line is also the next starting line for your next career.  Good luck with that.  I am sure you will do well.

Well, I must get going.  Hope each of you has a great day ahead.

Aloha. Paradise. Another gorgeous but cool day in Chicago. Long day yesterday, went to bed early. I think I am on the wrong side of sleep. Today's highlight: pick up a free comic at lunchtime.  Brent, now that Christina's mobile, the whole world changes. She'll get to things you never thought possible.  JoeD, you'll love WBB and the 44 tonner in particular. It's a tad oversize... Hope Kev enjoys the Northwoods. Ray, prayers for a good doc visit.

Spent the rest of the day returning the Mustang to stock so I can take it in for a failed cat.  Started with reinstalling the stock mufflers, and didn't stop until only the louvers and Agent 47 mirrors remained in place.  Real strong sulfur odor after prolonged drives.  If it wasn't for PA's inspection, I'd remove them.

Quite a few cats get permanently removed down here. My van doesn't have any and I don't know that it ever has. There's no sign of any anti-pollution equipment. If there was somebody removed every bit of it. My nephew removed the cats from all his pickups as they failed and installed all-new cat-less exhaust systems. All passed inspection. In this area they don't check for emissions. Just tires, headlights, taillights, backup lights, wipers, brake lights, turn signals and horn. Whether the vehicle has a muffler or not seems to be optional. Mine has a home-made cherry bomb and it can rattle the windows. Passes inspection every time.

Mornin' Fellas

Probe - that Cert should open additional doors for you... have you given any more thought to relocation? Seriously - there are jobs a plenty in your field here.

Had to drive TheQ's Murano today so I can take it for service. I really like this vehicle, but it does NOT handle like the 325xi! Big Smile The Murano has the same engine as the 300z, most people do not know this... well some bonehead in a Civic decides he wants to 'drift' while at a redlight... he didn't stand a chance. Big Smile

Fife - sounds like Fifepup had a good time at Prom. My niece isn't going to the jr prom this weekend because the girl she was going to attend with backed out on her... long story that simply makes your head spin. All I can say is kids today sure aren't like they were when I was young. Confused

Heading back to The Burgh this Saturday to do some work on the rental property. Not looking forward to @ 8 hours in the car for only 20 minutes of work. But it is to fix a plumbing leak and I don't feel like paying a plumber $500.00 either.

How Many Dogs Does it Take to Change a Light Bulb?

Australian Shepherd: Just one. While the rest herd the property for any more light bulbs or even light switches that need to be replaced.

Pit Bull: As long as I'm here, nobody can change ANYTHING. Not as long as I'm around. NO WAY.

Golden Retriever: It doesn't matter. Even if someone breaks in, I will find the flashlight for them and show off all of my toys and will play fetch nonstop. I still got lots of toys that squeak.

Rottweiler: Won't you-- MAKE ME!!!âïżœ¦..Just try it.

Labrador: Oh me, me!!!!! Huh? Huh? Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change it! Can I? Can I? You sure you only want me to change it? Too bad these bulbs float, or else I would even change the ones from way under the pool.

German Shepherd: Roger that. First of all, I need to see if that is truly a light bulb or a bomb. Second, I should check for any intruders still left in the premises. And third, see if they are still around, so I can sink these nice set of canines in that arm and keep on swinging from it. Not really. Any arm will do.

Maltese: Let the German Shepherd do it. Cocky ***. You can fix my hair. Yes. Of course piggy tail. What else?

Saint Bernard: Man, I still got the hangover from last night and you're worry about a stupid lamp. Look. I threw up a few times and can't even wipe my own slobber. Those ****es once they're in heat, REALLY know how to party and I got hammered.

Border Collie: Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring, check for any hazards, and let you know how long that light bulb will actually last.

Weiner Dog: Yeah right. You know that I can't reach that stupid bulb! Hello? Besides, those big scary dogs just love to floss their teeth with me. And with/without any light they always find me. I guess it's because I just can't shut up. Can I?

Siberian Husky: You mean just yank it out of that ceiling and take off with it for miles without even looking back?

Minature Pincher: Why? I can still bite ankles in the dark.

Jack Russell Terrier: Dude, I have cats to chase, rabbits to hunt, and make my owners catch me if you can game. Besides, I will pop it again with my constant bouncing around anyway.

Bassett Hound: Leave that thing off. I am so tired and sleepy and I love it when it's dark. Too much light hurts my eyes. Why do you think my eyes are so freaking red all the time? Noooooo. I told you a million times that I DO NOT smoke pot. Gosh!!!. I only slept fifteen hours today and you kept on bugging me. ZZZZZZzzzzzz.z.z.z..z..z..z.

Chow Chow: Nope, don't change that light bulb, don't brush me, don't bathe me, don't medicate me, and don't ever mistake me with a goofy bear.

Poodle: Oh come on. Give me a break. Who wants to mess up the hair for a stupid light bulb? What if the minute I even try to install it, it burns my fro. I mean come on. The fro is back in style and these curls don't just happen, you know. Did I tell you I just got my nails done at Poodle Nook Salon today?

Lhaso Apso: Why change it? I can still mark every corner of this house blindfolded.

Doberman: Let them break in. I always wait in that corner and never make a sound. By the time they notice me, my teeth will meet their crotch. Then we'll talk about who's really going to get neutered tonight. GRRRRRRRRR.

Beagle: Light bulb? I don't sniff any light bulbs? What's the point. I will pop it again with my long barks anyway.  Where's the becan?

Boxer: Come on dude. Listen to my name.. BOXER? Who needs to change a light bulb when I can just box and knock out the intruder. Once they grab me by the collar, then I'll show you my psycho dance, that is guaranteed to break those fingers.

Chihuahua: Yo quiero TACO BULB?

Pomeranian: Hey, I was a chow in my past life. So don't you dare make me do anything.

Bulldog: No way Jose! Last time I tried that crap, I landed flat on my nose.

Bichon Frisee: Let the bulldog or the pug do it. Cute dogs don't have to work. Besides, all they do is snore and snore alllllllllll night anyway.

Pointer: I see it. There it is. That one right? Yep I see it. There it is. Right there.. hmm.. although it is not moving. I wish they have light bulbs in the jungle. That way I could point out those squirrels even better.

Greyhound: I told you people that I only move off that couch for rabbits! Plain and simple.
Afghan Hound: Light bulb? What? Huh? I'm sorry, what is that? Back in mountains there are no light bulbs. Besides, everybody knows that I don't need a silly lightbulb to prove how gorgeous I really am.

Evenin' Fellas

Jack - no the BMW expenses did not derail me... Christina has... I simply LOVE spending time with her, she is a joy.

Christina Update:
Last week we were receiving reports that she started crawling. Saturday we were getting ready to go to a dinner social for TheQ's boss' daughter's MBA Graduation. Well TheQ is standing in the bedroom and Christina was on the floor playing with her hoard of stuffed animals, TheQ says "OH MY GOD come here she's crawling" I got into the room just in time to see her move about 1 foot, then sit back, look at me and say "DA DA!" SmileThumbs Up She has now been crawling as much as she can and pulling herself up to stand and walk along the furniture.

Yesterday I was putting my shoes on and she was again sitting on the floor playing with her hoard of stuffed animals (I'm still trying to figure out how they made it from HER room into the Master Bedroom) when I hear her puffing what sounded like "I do it. I do it. I do it", look down and she is crawling toward the foot of the bed, then she starts huffing like she is over exerting herself (she was pulling herself up), then I hear "DA DA!" Look over and she is standing on her tip toes with her head arched back so she could see me with the biggest smile.

So yes... Christina has Daddy completely wrapped around her finger...

Oh almost forgot. I called my father yesterday and asked him "So when does this stop being cute." His response, "Never. It is your responsibility as a parent to figure out when to stop responding like it is cute."

First father to father advice he has given me. Thumbs Up He is a great father!

DougM,

              Happy B-Day

Passed the first A+ certification exam today Thumbs Up, then came home to a letter from the potential employer that I am earning the cerification for stating that they "selected another candidate".[tdown]  Not real happy about this right now.

Good evening everyone.  Quick stop before heading to bed.  Had a good afternoon, took care of some short cases and then did a little cleaning house.  Got rid of a bunch of things that were just in the way.  Hope to keep it up and clear some more areas and make things look neat.

Have to brag on Sears.  I ordered some parts from SearsPartsDirect for one of our vacuums.  Ordered it Saturday with regular shipping.  got an email this afternoon that the items had shipped.  Got home and shortly afterwards, the UPS guy was bringing them to the door.  Had the vacuum up and running in about five minutes later.  Good service.

Jack, yeah, can't go wrong with having the manual.  Regarding the photography taking away from the ability to enjoy the program.....I agree.  In the future, you may want to let them know that your services are not free.  Charge a fair price to shoot the event.  In the case of the ballet recital, I shot so many photos as the lighting and action were working against me.  I wanted to have lots of shots hoping that some would come out.  I could not use flash, so had to boost ISO and use a wide open lense.  Biggest problem with a wide open aperature, it has shallow depth of field, so it was difficult to get a good focus when they were spinning across a stage.  Used some kentucky windage so as to speak and best guess worked out to get so many photos.  In the end, they wanted to have all the clear photos and as I mentioned, was more than 4k.  It took better than 20 hours to edit the photos, and I was there for several hours both days doing the actual shooting.  I will make a few hundred dollars off it, but we went into this with the expectation of compensation for effort.  They could never afford my "professional fee", but we worked it out that they got plenty of good shots to use and I made a little something to justify my being there (besides my daughter's dancing).

Regarding fancy cars, never had a classic, unless a Ford Pinto could be considered a classic!  I have had several really good cars, and I drive them till the wheels fall off.  My dad had some that he raced up in NJ and Long Island, but sold them off before I was of age to drive.

Well, I need some sleep.  Pray that each of you has a good night.
God Bless,
Dennis

Ohayƍ,

It is sunny and very nice today.  It rained last night so I had to cancel baseball practice.  I’m hoping it doesn’t rain tomorrow so we could have one practice this week.   I won a brand new WBB LV 44-ton switcher this morning on eBay.  It will be my first non-Lionel locomotive and from all the great WBB reviews I’ve seen on the forum, I should be pleased.  The price was amazing so I may also have to bid on something I’ve had my eye on for a while over at Choo Choo. Stick out tongue

Kev – Congratulations to your daughter.  The fuel storage tanks look great.

I need to have some lunch now.  Have a great day everyone.

Sayonara,

Joe

The annual June trip to Fenwick Island DE is off for this year. Since the kids aren't going Mrs & I decided to take my Folks to Beaufort NC (shhhhhhh, don't tell Chief)  They used to spend a lot of time there and there is still one cousin and lot's o friends. Mrs & I will still be at Indian River DE camping in July if all goes well.

Bad news today from the Alto Model Train Museum Association. Theyr're getting evicted. Check out the article. They will be missed. They have a line or two on new digs but It will take a long time to get things back together.

Calling it a night early tonight. It's been a busy day for me. My van is legal for two more years. Also performed preventive maintenance on the GP9m Frankenlocos and the Frankenstein F unit trio. Hard to believe that big heavy trio is run through three tiny Z Scale decoders. They've had a lot of running lately so it was time for a light lube job. I also brought the GP38 and SD27J out for a run. See y'all tomorrow.

Well Murphy’s law kicked in this afternoon. I thought I had better check the trailer out and when I hooked it up …………NO lights,,,,,,,,AT ALL?????????   Angry

Thanks DougM as in Murphy.  Tongue Tied

Anyway after about an hour of looking I found that the truck harness had a bad plug and that the trailer had a bad right side light.  Bang Head

All is good to go now. Glad I checked it.  Smile

Talk to all of you late Sunday or on Monday. Have a great week and weekend.  Yes
