Getting ready to make a trip to the lake house.  Haven't been in a while as working on the box.  Taking spare frig up and spending the night.  Lucy and Finn will be happy.  They get to run and play.

On January 28, 2012 at approximately 2:15 pm EST,  the flag of the Great State of Ohio was prominently displayed within the town limits of Roseyville, NC.  Chocolate covered Buckeyes were used to replace grits in the Mayor’s mansion as displayed below by the First Lady of Roseyville.   As they say, timing is everything and the mission was carried out flawlessly with absolutely stunning results.  This most dangerous mission is dedicated to those poor souls who were forced to digest grits during that awful day in Pennsylvania.

Ray....I ate no grits and drank no sweet tea.  The plan was for the Roseyville Police to cuff me and then force feed me grits.  Needless to say, Roseyville is a very tough and rough town reflecting the personality of the mayor. Watching the Dukes of Hazard, Mission Impossible and Combat during my formative years as a youngster really paid dividends and probably saved my life.

Thanks BUCKEYE for those beautiful photos.  Now as I see it the front steps looks like it could be taken apart and reused for a good firepit to fry up some Pa. Scrapple, and sit around drinking some Ol Mills.  BUCKEYE tell us more of this so called BOX with wooden floors.  Does it have pipes for plumbing?  Running water?  Heat?  Or can you bring heat inside?  Flush toilets or just a hole?

Earlier today I took a couple of locos back to my bedroom to place them back in the display rack. After I'd put them back in their places I spotted a Stewart F9 A-B set and realized I had forgotten their address. I looked on the bottom of both locos but it wasn't there. I usually write the address on the bottom. So I took them to the layout to put them on the program track. In short order I had the address on the display. I wrote it on the bottom of the A unit and realized that I'd forgotten what kind of decoders I put in them. I did remember that these locos are a pain to open so I the Zephyr do the investigating. A quick check came back with 101. That was easy enough. 101 is Bachmann. I do remember all the work I put into these to get them operational again. When I got them they both had motor problems and the B unit had a problem in one truck as well. Both have Kato type chassis. The A unit was easy to remotor as I had a good motor that was virtually a drop-in replacement. I put the motor in, tested for shorts then wired in a Bachmann decoder and checked to make sure the address was set at three. That will become clear later. The B unit required more work. So much so that I almost shelved it. However what's life without some adventure and adversity. The motor was useless junk. The front truck had a broken gear in the top of the tower. One side of the shaft was snapped completely off and the gear below it was missing some teeth. It wasn't hard to determine that the broken shaft had fallen down onto the other gear and jammed it and stripped those teeth off. That truck was junk and I didn't have a any spare Kato trucks. I also didn't have a motor to match the old one. It was time to get creative. With a little work and a lot of imagination I fit an Athearn motor into the chassis. As for the trucks, in for a penny - in for a pound. I cut out part of the frame to allow for the installation of a pair of Proto 2000 AAR trucks. Now I've had people tell me this is impossible. Well, it was impossible, until I did it. I'm not saying it was easy. It would have been far easier to slap in an Athearn chassis. But where's the fun in that? It took a lot of work, a lot off adjusting, a lot of cussing, but I finally got the trucks in and mounted so they turned freely and sat at the proper height. I put in Athearn worms and found a pair of shafts that fit. I don't remember what they came out of but they worked. So that was another Frankenstein I could chalk up. I wired everything up, checked for shorts then installed a Bachmann decoder and made sure it was set to three. I got two horn-hook couplers from the junk box and put one on the rear of the A unit and the other on the front of the B unit, coupled them together and wrapped the couplers with aluminum wire so they were permanently coupled. I then soldered wires to the pickups of the A units rear truck and ran the back to the B unit where I soldered them to the pickups of the front truck. The units were now hard-wired together. From there it was to the program track to set a new address. Now you know why I made sure both decoders were set to address three earlier. With the new address set I sent them off on a test run. The test run was successful so I put the shells on them then put them in the display rack and promptly forgot about them. The Stewart F9 shells are so much like the Athearn F7 shells that that's what I thought they were when I looked at them.

Hello All

A beautiful day up here on the mountain. So good we are using the high frequency receiver: 691 Gigahertz (for Chief's benefit, that means a lot...).

Well I just got the call from my future boss. I got the job. Looking to making the changeover in early March. Now to find a place to live in Safford, pack up, move, oh, and reassemble a '62 Corvair van that is sitting on jackstands with only the rear crossmember installed in the back. This will be the third time in 10 years where I've had to become the mad mechanic. I guess I must like it. 

The 2025 is now happily smoking along. The front truck hangs up every once and a while. Has the same problem as the 2026 where the pin came loose. Today I ordered another front truck, the headlight bracket for the 2026 (which I broke right after I had ordered the front truck for it), and a box of O-27 track clips from Brasseurs.

Jeffrey - Nice work on the F9 units! As Laz would say you da man! FYI: Mobile homes and another surprise will be heading east soon.

Buckeye - great job on the raid! Hopefully the Rolesville RR yard got the switching back in order....

It is good to see you regaining lucidity after your encounter. I was pretty worried after that rambling post yesterday. It is unfortunate you still have some recurrance of a few of the hallucinations of your alleged "conquests" in Roseyville but the evidence clearly shows the Chief is still posting strong. Be assured you will continue to get better. Note you did not have to actually ingest the GRITs. Just like with smoking, secondary exposure to GRITs is just as bad as actually ingesting them for the uninitiated/unwashed. So just being around the Chief - well you get the picture.

Jeff - a good challenging project is always fun - particularly when it all works out at the end!

SubmmBob - Congrats on the new job!

LAZ - the gang here already had our first York planning session.

Ohayō (O-hi-o for Chuck),

I had a nice three-mile run this morning.  It was pretty cold but it felt great.  It is sunny now and today’s high is in the 40s.  I ran out of time to post last night so I’m taking a moment to post from work now.  Yesterday morning I was able to chat with the Tardis crew for a few minutes.  The family and I had a great Sunday which mostly consisted of lazing around.  I did find time to clean the track on the UTB RR and also lube and oil the locomotives and the rolling stock which were due.  I jury rigged the tinplate cars to the 8 y/o son’s steam loco and tender again as well.  I shot some video using a Flip video camera which I will hopefully post tonight.  I need to edit the videos a little but I have never done that before.  I need to get back to work now.

Bob – Congratulations on the new job. 

Buckeye – Great job on the raid, and thanks for sharing the photos.

Good evening everyone.  Had a great day with both church services and the time with our family.  My neck and back were killing me all night, and still this morning.  They asked me to be on camera duty as the other guy was sick.  After the first few moments, my back went numb, so I didn't have pain....but knew I was going to suffer later.  After lunch, came home to do some work on the layout.  Got some more buildings painted and weathered.  Then, back to church.  

Hey Chief, ya think you were able to turn Buckeye and switch his loyalties to the South?  I can only imagine buckeye in the car on the way home....whistling Dixie!!!

Bob, my heartfelt congratulations to you sir!  I pray that you get settled into your new job and home real soon.  Having followed you in our friendship here, it warms the heart to see someone be blessed in such a way.

Well, I start call in the morning and am kicking off the week with a couple of big cases.  Should be a good week as we have plenty to do, which I prefer.  Seems when you are not busy that idle minds cause mischief.

I've been battling a cold so I've been sleeping a lot this weekend. I stayed home Friday and Saturday but I went out and did a little bit of railfanning on the CSX Trenton Sub but only saw 2 trains in 3 hours. I did happen to catch an unexpected NS manifest, 14G, which had a nice SD70M-2 leader. From there I came home for a little bit but got a call from a friend to go hang out and drive around in his new truck. Driving around (in his new to him) Duramax makes me want one even more!

Nothing much today, couldn't sleep last night.....tossin and turnin' (insert appropriate '50's music here), stress about the new job and the relief...

Dennis, did you ever deal with the relief association?  This is going on 2 months now...

It was in the 40's today a bit breezy and if I had felt better, a bike ride would have been in order...I need a ride on the scoot....to clear my head.

Just went out to ShopRite for some food for the week.  Stopped at WaWa for hot chocolate to help me relax and maybe sleep.  I have to help the Princess do 1 page paper and that should do me in.

Jump started the Wagon today, checked and topped off the fluids and removed it from the Firehouse parking lot.  Too many people with too many questions...out of sight out of mind.  That freakin' car runs so well....IF I still have it in the spring, I think that a carb and timing adjustment might make it a wee bit faster.  If I had the extra gas money, we'd be cruisin' tonight just for grins....I really built her well...

Colin, were you at the West Trenton Station?  I've been there at night, got some great action, so 2 freights in an hour plus SEPTA.  I'd love to catch the juice train one night.  If you go there, head to the Ewing Diner.  The coffee is great there and the waitresses ain't bad either.  Been there a few times, it's just down the road from West Trenton and Trains & Things.

Anjdevil2: I was actually further down the line at Woodbourne. I caught the two freights and then left, way too cold and windy for videos so I only snapped a few shots on my DSLR. Regarding the Juice Train, I have caught it once during the day. Definitely a rare catch to say the least. Here's a quick video from that day back in August:

I don't step foot near Ewing anymore, my ex and I left our relationship on really bad terms (I had to end things after she admitted to cheating twice, and she attends TCNJ, and from what I understand she's all over Ewing now.) I ended things in April, but for some reason she continued talking to me saying that she still wanted to be a part of my life. My sister (who introduced us) called her one night and told her off, specifically saying that it's one thing to disrespect me, but she also disrespected our whole family because we accepted her and brought her in and legitimately cared for her. She cried and apologized but my sister was and still is angry with her. It's not like we dated for 6 months, we were together for a little shy of 3 years. Even after my sister told her off, she texted me on my birthday and then texted me a few days after that. I nearly threw my phone on the shotgun range because I just got so mad at her. Well, now I deleted her number and all other contact forms we had. I haven't spoken to her since August, and I'm more than happy to say I'm actually much better off without her. I rekindled many friendships that I lost and have been enjoying life as a single 21 year old who has the ability to go out on the weekends and not worry about a relationship. She had the double standard where she was allowed to party everyday of the week, but I wasn't allowed to go out to parties at my friends houses.  I handled it maturely, but she had to leave it on bad terms. Apparently (this is hysterical) she's dating one of the guys she cheated on me with. I've never understood the mentality of some people. What makes him think she won't cheat on him like she did on me? That's the last type of girl I'd ever think of dating. 

Anyways, I'm still wide awake. I think I'm gonna go watch Top Gear.
